Surf & Turf with mushrooms and onions
    Chris W.

We came here on a Friday evening without reservations around 7:45 PM and were able to be seated in less than 20 minutes. The decor is very much like a family-style seafood restaurant. The wait staff was very courteous and took our drink orders as we sat down. We put in a large order of appetizers and entrees to get a feel for the local cuisine and it did not disappoint! The coconut shrimp was colossal and the dipping sauce was great, it reminded me of duck (sweet & sour) sauce from a Chinese restaurant. The broiled crab cake was super flavorful and not heavily breaded. The surf & turf hit the spot for me: the lobster tail was great, the filet was cooked as requested, the addon of mushrooms and onions was pricey and worth it, and the crab imperial was rich. Definitely recommend coming here for dinner!

    Stuffed rockfish special

Another great dinner at the village. Went as a hungry party of 6 for a 7pm reservation. We started with bbq shrimp, oysters, onion rings, crab balls and coconut shrimp(they're huge). Everything was delicious besides the crab balls seemed bland to me but weren't bad when dipped in the sauce they came in. I had the special- stuffed rockfish it had shrimp, scallops and crab imperial inside. Other people got filet mignon, fried oysters, and two penne pasta with scallops.

    Chincoteague oysters

Super good from service to apps, to entrees and atmosphere in general. The Chincoteague oysters were impressively good (considering it's not an "r" month) I also had the crab soup and the crab imperial special. I will be back next time to come to Chincoteague.

Chincoteague oysters are clean tasting, very briny, and super tender. I just had it with a generous squeeze of lemon and that's all I needed. I will dream of those oysters, seriously. The grilled flounder was fresh, but a little under seasoned. It would have been A+ if it had been generously salted before grilling (adding salt at the table just isn't the same). BTW, a flounder platter has three filets - so I'd recommend sharing. The sides were also generously portioned. (Onion rings will make you happy.) We had a great server, we were glad we visited during low season because I bet this place is PACKED when tourists are around.

Maybe we'd come back to try something else, but probably we'd just leave this joint for the locals and check out another place. What we got: Cream of crab soup - 4* the best thing of the night. It was delicious and I wish it came with a buttered piece of bread I could dip in it. Coconut shrimp basket - 3* the shrimp are very coconut-y and I realized I just didn't love that. It came with 6 pieces of shrimp, way too many fries (they were only mediocre), 2 delicious hush puppies (best I've ever had), and 1 pickle (nice crunch). The coleslaw side was also good and had apples. Overall though I was disappointed that $17 got me a pretty unsatisfying dish. Fish and chips (friend flounder) - 3* average but nothing to write home about. Once again a lot of fries (obviously, it's a fish and chips meal) but they just weren't that good. The fish was alright as well, malt vinegar and lemon didn't jazz it up as much as was expected. The pickle, coleslaw, and hush puppies were the best part of the meal.

There is a small lot behind the restaurant. It was easy and there was plenty of parking since it was the off season. I did not have a reservation but, I was seated as a party of one pretty quick. The tables were draped with white table cloths, a nice table side light, sweeteners, tall clear glasses with a black napkin and tall salt and pepper shakers. The walls were a darker and lighter gray, hues of black and whites scattered throughout. I was in love with the old photos and the black and white prints throughout. There was a stunning glass sculpture hanging from the center of the dining room. It maybe a Chihuly glass chandelier. If it is not it resembles it. Hues of amber, orange and whites. My waitress came over within a few minutes and took my drink order. She informed me of the specials and brought over some bread, butter and herbed oil. I just had to try the cream of crab. On the menu it states it's a tight lipped recipe. The cream of crab was delicious. They have done their own spin on it. It came out piping hot. It had a slight kick to it, as if there was some sort of pepper in it... jalapeño? Could just be regular ground pepper. Overall, it was pretty good. My meal came with a choice of salad. It was either a garden salad, Caesar salad or tropical salad. I ordered the garden salad with ranch dressing. The salad was ok. Nothing to rave about. It had shoestring carrots, two cherry tomatoes and 2-3 types of lettuce. It did the job. I had the waitress choose my main dish for me. I could not decide. It was between the stuffed shrimp (stuffed with crab imperial), or the crab cakes. I opted for the vegetable of the day which was green beans. My waitress surprised me with stuffed shrimp, broiled. I'm so glad she went with the broiled vs fried option. She said it was the best way to go. The crab imperial was creamy and flavorful. The shrimp were a little on the smaller side. I personally did noThe green beans were nicely seasoned. For dessert I had the waitress choose agin. A choice between their strawberry shortcake which was a special, white chocolate coconut cream pie, or the vanilla crème brûlée. She chose well, the coconut cream pie. It was so good! It was butterflied which was fine, but it was well done and too dry to eat. They took the steak off of the bill, after receiving approval, but charged him for his sides of baked potato and green beans which he didn't eat. The service was very attentive and the restaurant does have a lovely ambience.

It's a very simple storefront - some fresh produce outside, right by the parking area, and then just an open façade for walking in to purchase the seafood. It's a bit tight inside, but the folks are friendly and welcoming and there was never really much of a line to order seafood. If you want crabs, order ahead of time so you can tell them exactly when you're going to want them ready. When I arrived to pick up my dozen male crabs, they were steaming hot. They were reasonably priced. Some of the seafood is super local, others they get from the mainland. I opted for some Chincoteague oysters which were so deliciously briny and fresh. The crabs were also locally and recently caught. Sometimes you gotta be ready to buy what's been caught, you know? That being said, I also enjoyed our rockfish that they had purchase for selling. Maybe next time I'll get some of the clams too. While the main draw is the local fresh seafood, they do sell a few other items like local hot sauces, seasonings, and even equipment like crab mallets and oyster knives (which was good, because my rental property didn't have one and I didn't want to shell out $20 extra to have my oysters pre-shucked). Next time I'm staying on Chincoteague, I will be ordering from Ricky's. Highly recommended!

It was a busy night (our waitress apologized, explaining that they had two 12-tops and that was the main reason things were going slowly). We ordered the children's food first hoping it would come out sooner, but even that took a while. The tapas menu seems to change a bit, and we got the Crispy Hot Honey Oysters. They were perfectly done with just the right amount of crust on top of a just-cooked oyster. Child #2 devoured them and declared that he loves fried oysters (and he had never had them before here). They sadly had run out of the scallop ceviche and nothing else was grabbing us so we went with the main menu. My wife got a Chicken So-Cal, which has mashed avocado, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle aioli; basic, but she liked it. I got the Baja Fish Tacos (2), which that night was flounder. Pretty straightforward fried fish taco - a nice crema and cabbage with lime was a good meal. Child #1 is a vegetarian and we came here for the solid options available. While he opted for a simple cheese quesadilla from the kids' menu, we also got a Captain Jack, which is a jackfruit-based vegetarian take on the Kalua Pork sandwich. It had a nice shred to it and a little sweetness from the pineapple. Definitely recommended. Child #2 has never met a burger he didn't like and the kids' menu burger was surprisingly large. Fries and sweet potato fries were standard and good. There is an extensive wine list with a lot of sauvignon blancs on the whites list. I got one that was very well described on the list, right down to identifying notes of gooseberry. It went well with my tacos. They also offer several local beers as well as domestic options. I saw someone getting cocktails at the bar, but the menu offered to us didn't include any of those options; I might have preferred a cocktail, but oh well. Our waitress was kind and attentive. It was a bit slow due to lots of other folks, but that wasn't her fault. The prices were reasonable for a beach town.

It was lobster night but we chose to go with several things so we could try a bunch from the menu since we didn't know when we'd be back again. They had tons of daily specials on a board when you entered and I chose to go with the fresh Halibut platter with a side salad. We did a half pound of steamed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a side of fries as well. Hush puppies were big and crispy, a bit too greasy for me, but they were a nice few bites to take the edge off while we waited. Served with butter. The shrimp were large and fresh - we were told fresh from North Carolina and I believe it. Some of the best steamed shrimp I've had. My husband absolutely devoured them. My halibut was grilled and was simple, fresh, and high quality. Really good cut of fresh fish and excellent size and flavor. It was around $34 for the entree. Not cheap, but delicious! Bacon wrapped scallops were good - they could've been cooked a few minutes longer to make the bacon crispy as it was a tad undercooked/soft but still good quality and flavor on everything.
