We were traveling from Maryland back home to VA, so i did a google search for seafood. This place was promising based on the reviews. I don't know how this place has good reviews. The food was average at best. I gave 2 stars because the shrimp and hush puppies were okay. The flounder was bland and tasted old. The crabcake was small, mushy and definitely didn't have any decent crab meat in it. I dont know if it was filler or maybe claw meat but it was terrible. We threw most of our food in the trash. Wasted almost $50. If you love fresh, seasoned, GOOD seafood, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

I ordered the soft shell crab (3) and oyster (6) platter which came with fries, hush puppies and Cole slaw. The staff was friendly and the food was cooked perfectly and quick. I have a low tolerance for salt and the soft shell crab were a little salty to me.

Large fish platter (4 fillets), and a side of soft-boiled crab, fried to perfection with fries, coleslaw, and delicious Hushpuppies.

Waited here until the place opened as I was driving through this morning. Fish that flaked off the crust. SO worth it. This is one of my top favorite restaurants of all time.

We were getting hungry on our drive thru the Eastern Shore. I'd noted Metompkin seafood on previous treks thru the area. It doesn't look like much from the outside, with hand painted signs and a handwritten menu posted on a bulletin board outside the door, but with few other options for food nearby, we stopped in. There were three sizes of fresh shrimp on ice in one refrigerated display case and some homemade crabcakes in another. There was not a lot on display, to be sure. But there were plenty of other options on the menu. We opted for a half pound of steamed shrimp as a gluten-free option and a clam strip basket. Both were made to order and were ready in less than 10 minutes. Meanwhile, we had a very nice conversation with the lady at the counter which made the time pass more quickly. Both of the seafood choices were excellent as were the fries and homemade cole slaw. We were very pleased with our choices and glad we stopped in.

Fried fish sandwich (with lots of hot sauce that I added, hush puppies, coleslaw, and fries.

Delicious food!!! Their seafood is addictive!! We have been visiting this gem for more than a decade. The food is so good, that we go once a week when we are in town. Their seafood is fresh, seasoned to perfection, and their portions are very generous. The owners and employees are hospitable and very knowledgeable about the area. We can't wait to go back next week!

If I could give 10 or 100 stars to Metompkin Seafood I would. This is the place you imagined you'd find as you take 13 into Virginia. Who can resist the hand lettered signs, promising fried fish and shrimp and crab cakes? Who can resist old nautical decor? The place is so authentic you think it must be decorated by some enterprising hipster trying to re-create an Eastern Shore seafood place, but it isn't. This is the real deal. It is what roadtrippers and seafood lovers are looking for. And, the people are friendly, and, most importantly, the food is great. I've been there several times, and have never left without a whew, that was good, and kissing my fingers in the stereotyped Italian chef style. The folks at Metompkin know how to fry fish. Fish will be lightly coated with corn meal, and perfectly and simply seasoned with salt and pepper. I've had the fried fish, shrimp, crab cakes, fries, coleslaw, and noting has ever been less than lip smacking. The place serves locals and tourists. All are treated with the same care. You eat out front on picnic tables. Nothing is fancy, but it's everything you need. Do not miss it.

Flounder and soft shells were yummy!! Cooked to order, friendly service. I hope to be back!!

It's homey inside and I love the decor with various sea and fishing themed items hanging - kind'of reminds me of the way a Cracker Barrel looks. We were seated immediately at about 6pm and greeted quickly by the sweet, Diana who took really good care of us. Pleasant the entire meal and quick with any refills or requests we had. It was lobster night but we chose to go with several things so we could try a bunch from the menu since we didn't know when we'd be back again. They had tons of daily specials on a board when you entered and I chose to go with the fresh Halibut platter with a side salad. We did a half pound of steamed shrimp, bacon wrapped scallops and a side of fries as well. Hush puppies were big and crispy, a bit too greasy for me, but they were a nice few bites to take the edge off while we waited. Served with butter. The shrimp were large and fresh - we were told fresh from North Carolina and I believe it. Some of the best steamed shrimp I've had. My husband absolutely devoured them. My halibut was grilled and was simple, fresh, and high quality. Really good cut of fresh fish and excellent size and flavor. It was around $34 for the entree. Not cheap, but delicious! Bacon wrapped scallops were good - they could've been cooked a few minutes longer to make the bacon crispy as it was a tad undercooked/soft but still good quality and flavor on everything. All in all - solid meal with good service in a charming local spot. We discussed it after leaving and decided this is going to be our go to when driving the Eastern shore from now on.

It's a very simple storefront - some fresh produce outside, right by the parking area, and then just an open façade for walking in to purchase the seafood. It's a bit tight inside, but the folks are friendly and welcoming and there was never really much of a line to order seafood. If you want crabs, order ahead of time so you can tell them exactly when you're going to want them ready. When I arrived to pick up my dozen male crabs, they were steaming hot. They were reasonably priced. Some of the seafood is super local, others they get from the mainland. I opted for some Chincoteague oysters which were so deliciously briny and fresh. The crabs were also locally and recently caught. Sometimes you gotta be ready to buy what's been caught, you know? That being said, I also enjoyed our rockfish that they had purchase for selling. Maybe next time I'll get some of the clams too. While the main draw is the local fresh seafood, they do sell a few other items like local hot sauces, seasonings, and even equipment like crab mallets and oyster knives (which was good, because my rental property didn't have one and I didn't want to shell out $20 extra to have my oysters pre-shucked). Next time I'm staying on Chincoteague, I will be ordering from Ricky's. Highly recommended!

As we were very hungry and didn't want to stop to research where to go, I selected the 1st seafood restaurant. It was about 8 miles away. We had to u-turn and back track about a 1/4 mile as it was on the east side of the divided highway. At first glance, I was disappointed and annoyed. We wanted an actual sit-down restaurant so we could take a break, and what we see is a fresh fish market. It's a really old rundown looking fish market. But like I said, we were really hungry, and there were a few vehicles there. Some had people eating in them, so we went inside. As soon as we walked inside, the smell of fresh seafood hit us. It didn't sink. It smelled really fresh. There's 2 counters inside and no place to sit. The only seating is picnic tables outside. The first counter is the fresh raw seafood, and the 2nd way off to the left is for placing your order. We kill about for a bit while looking at the handwritten menu. An older man with a Russian accent and the sea weathered appernce you'd expect in a lifelong fisherman was helping other customers. When it our turn,it was a hard decision because it seems you can have them cook any of the seafood from the other counter. We both went with the classic fish in chips. What we got to a while as it's completely made to order. Yo! This fish was in the ocean swimming yesterday! It's that fresh! So, the fish was fried flounder filet, and the fries were standard frozen fries with old bay type seasoning. This was the best fried fish I'd had in a very, very long time. The fries weren't bad, but the fish was next level. If you're every driving by and have a hankering for great fresh seafood, stop here. You won't regret it.
