My food was delicious, my server was very friendly and attentive, my food came out fast, and there are tvs to enjoy watching sports on, like womens' soccer which was on when I was there. It is a looong drive to VA Beach from Baltimore. You can bank on at least 5 hours, esp over a holiday weekend like 4th of July this year. We always take the scenic Route 50 way, and as we pass by signs indicating Ocean City exits I always gaze longingly. Alas, miles to go. When you have to stop and grab a bite, Don Valerio's in Onley is a good choice. Located in a strip shopping center next to a pizza and waffles place (?), it is def a no-frills locals spot. They were busy in the early afternoon on a Saturday, with what seemed to be only one new server and the manager helping out as best as he could. The food was nothing special, and the portions were on the small-ish side, but service was quick and it did the job. Better than fast food and the opportunity to get out of the car was appreciated. I would recommend this spot to anyone in need of a quick break from a long drive, but if I was local I would prob look elsewhere for more noteworthy Mex. read more

Went for Taco Tuesday. We bought six tacos. Tacos were supposed to be $2.50 each, however, we were charged $4.50 each. When we questioned the cost, we were told they were upgraded to supreme tacos because we added sour cream. We were not told, and I cannot believe I would be charged $2.00 per taco for sour cream. This is the second time I have had issues here. The first time, they didn't like what I said on face book so they blocked me. Definitely won't be going back. read more

Disappointing visit, in that service was slow and the restaurant was not welcoming. At other locations (like the Eastville location), table service is effected by a TEAM. At this location, one server was responsible for drinks, chips, table clearing, everything. This would be fine if nobody else was available, but plenty of other employees were sitting around on their cell phone or folding silverware. Not a good effort. In addition, the portions were lacking (just enough salsa for five chips) and the manager had no interest in what was going on. Not a cheerful, positive dining room. We've been here twice and both times we enjoyed it. The waitresses are super attentive and friendly. The food is decent - I ordered chicken chimichangas. The food came out really fast and warm. The restaurant looks really clean and the bathrooms are nice. They have beer specials here too and always seat us immediately. They also provide masks and have hand sanitizer due to COVID-19. This is an inauthentic Mexican restaurant. This was more Tex-Mex and Taco Bell mix. No Mexican restaurant uses Nacho Cheese, that's Tex Mex. I ordered chicken soup. Mexican chicken soup does not have cauliflower in it. There was maybe a drumstick worth of the driest chicken I have eaten. A friend ordered chicken fajitas. There was no onions or green peppers. She had to ask for them and then they charged her almost $5 more. The menu stated there should be both in the fajitas. Another member of our party ordered guacamole which was almost liquid with no salt and a nice grass flavor. Literally the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. Stopped here after having one too many disappointing eastern shore fried seafood meals. We were looking for ANYTHING different and not expecting too much. We were delightfully surprised. Service was quick and friendly. Giant menu (plus kids menu with chicken nuggets and fries - same nuggets I make at home, which was a plus for my kids). We didn't get the make-at-the-table guacamole because it was expensive, but I was intrigued by the addition of mango to the more traditional ingredients. Next time. Chips were good, not too oily, and FRESH. Salsa left a little to be desired, but was mild enough that our kids enjoyed. There was YUCATECO and TAPATIO on the table for people like me who like things very hot. (Though it was clear the TAPATIO had been refilled with something not quite the same, it was still good.) The real treat, and the reason why this place gets 4 stars rather than 3, was the tacos al pastor. Served with onions and cilantro and fresh pico de gallo. Choice of corn or flour tortillas (corn of course). The pork was spicy, salty and slightly caramelized and crispy, and melt-in-your-mouth. Embarrassed to say I ate all three. Absolutely the best I've ever had. If I had walked in and just gotten those, this unexpected little place would get 5 stars. read more

Cute little restaurant, nice atmosphere. Waitress was very sweet, but the real treat was the double shrimp fajita. The portion was huge and the shrimp were big and to die for. Not impressed. They were cheap with everything. They gave you a half full basket of chips and just a tiny sound of salsa in the bowl...for 5 people. Wish I had taken pictures. The ice tea was funky like they didn't wash out the pitcher or left it out to go bad. Food was ok. Had to ask for a "order of sour cream since they did not put any on the food. The food did come out hot. The waitresses must have been taught to not give a customer anything unless they ask....they would walk by and see empty glasses of water, and not offer to refill them. We waited for more chips, and until we asked, we didn't get any. I'm used to better service by all means. Wish I hadn't spent 58.00 on a dinner that was mediocre at best. Okay let me start out by saying we needed to wait to be seated yet the restaurant was fairly empty. When us and a couple of other groups walked in the waitress said oh god I thought we were finished yet they were still open for another hour and a half. So then we finally get seated and we hear one waitress complain to the other about another table leaving a $5 tip on a $80 tab. Now we finally get to order our food so we order tacosalads and a order of cheese dip. They bring out the salsa which tastes like they opened a jar. Now the taco salad comes out the waitress says do you need in anything else I replied yes how about the cheese dip? The taco salad had to have hot sauce added to it to give it some flavor because they forgot to put any seasoning on the ground beef at all. Our waitress over charged another table and gave another table a free meal. Another waitress got in front of everyone in there and apologized to everyone at the top of her lungs about how sorry she was for all the chaos there is. We even herd our waitress say she can't handle it anymore. Three black women came in after we were seated and the waitress told them that they were going to close early and were not seating anyone else. Yet it was not even 8pm and they close at 9pm. Every customer knew what was going on in the restaurant. 4 tables left at the same time once we got outside 3 of the 4 tables said never again. We stopped here on our way to Virginia Beach. Service and atmosphere was great. Chips were a little stale, and the salsa was a little on the tomato sauce side. Margaritas were good. My husband had the #4 a chicken burrito and beef taco. He felt the burrito was outstanding and the taco was very good. I had the fish tacos, which were delicious, but I would have loved a little aioli to top them off. They come with a Pico de gallo, which was nothing special. The refried beans were excellent. Don V. will take care of you. Even though it is the only real place to get Mexican food on the entire Eastern Shore, they hold their standards high. If you are in the mood for Mexican, go pay them a visit. They serve both Tex-mex and authentic dishes. You have to dig through the menu a little bit to find the authentic stuff. The "real" tacos are pretty good. Don't settle for those Tex-mex tacos you can get anywhere, ask for the good stuff - they will cook it right. There aren't many places around Accomack county that are worthy of five stars but this place consistently has great service, good chips and salsa, and delicious food. This place is a shit hole full of people that have no clue whats going on. Unorganized. An hour before they close and the girl at the register is already complaining and yelling that theres people that still want to order waiting in line. Allowed multiple people to cut the line and order before me after fully acknowledging i was supposed to be next; and then running out of everything as the person that cut me orders. Overcrowded entrance way, no way to social distance due to a lack of food pickup system. They just sit it on the table in a bag to get cold until you walk back in and ask for it. Obviously not an ounce of planning went into how to properly do carry out food. Ontop of which during a time when people should be eating at home, they come to your restaurant to be met with bad attitude, constant complaining, inability to fulfill orders, an unorganized painful process; this establishment seems to forget - its not you doing us the favor, its us doing you the favor of trying to keep your sales and restaurant alive. Its obvious this establishment and its people fail to realize and appreciate that. It is a wonderful mystery about the human condition that people can disagree about things so seemingly obvious -- like whether Don Valerio's is any good. They sat us at a rickety table in the empty restaurant under the blaring loud speaker. Someone in the kitchen wrapped unseasoned, barely cooked meat in a thawed tortilla and poured over it some red colored liquid, which, I will assume came from a can, a very wicked can with the ability to kill all joy. Everything we tasted that day was bad. It is possible that I caught them on a bad day, but the existence of days so bad is not acceptable when you are serving other people food for which they are expected to pay. read more

On our way from Virginia Beach, headed back to NYC we stopped here for lunch. I ordered a vegetarian taco, cheese enchilada & chili relleno combo with beans. It was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The meal came out & the cheese in the enchilada & chili relleno were unmelted. The enchilada was just cold shredded cheese rolled into a corn tortilla. The enchilada sauce & beans tasted like they were canned. The taco was just filled with iceberg lettuce, canned refried beans & shredded cheese. I had to add guacamole & salsa for it to be substantial. I sent the enchilada & chili relleno back to be reheated so that the cheese would melt. When it was brought back it was a soupy mess with cheese, sauce & beans floating all over the plate. I tried to eat it but the tortilla on the enchilada & breading on the chili relleno were not even good. I sent it back & just ordered a guacamole & chips to go.
