You really can't go wrong with a dozen raw local oysters and grilled flounder. We ripped through…read morethe oysters like someone was about to take them away. Chincoteague oysters are clean tasting, very briny, and super tender. I just had it with a generous squeeze of lemon and that's all I needed. I will dream of those oysters, seriously. The grilled flounder was fresh, but a little under seasoned. It would have been A+ if it had been generously salted before grilling (adding salt at the table just isn't the same). BTW, a flounder platter has three filets - so I'd recommend sharing. The sides were also generously portioned. (Onion rings will make you happy.) We had a great server, we were glad we visited during low season because I bet this place is PACKED when tourists are around.

Maybe we'd come back to try something else, but probably we'd just leave this joint for the locals and check out another place. What we got: Cream of crab soup - 4* the best thing of the night. It was delicious and I wish it came with a buttered piece of bread I could dip in it. Coconut shrimp basket - 3* the shrimp are very coconut-y and I realized I just didn't love that. It came with 6 pieces of shrimp, way too many fries (they were only mediocre), 2 delicious hush puppies (best I've ever had), and 1 pickle (nice crunch). The coleslaw side was also good and had apples. Overall though I was disappointed that $17 got me a pretty unsatisfying dish. Fish and chips (friend flounder) - 3* average but nothing to write home about. Once again a lot of fries (obviously, it's a fish and chips meal) but they just weren't that good. The fish was alright as well, malt vinegar and lemon didn't jazz it up as much as was expected. The pickle, coleslaw, and hush puppies were the best part of the meal.

It's a very simple storefront - some fresh produce outside, right by the parking area, and then just an open façade for walking in to purchase the seafood. It's a bit tight inside, but the folks are friendly and welcoming and there was never really much of a line to order seafood. If you want crabs, order ahead of time so you can tell them exactly when you're going to want them ready. When I arrived to pick up my dozen male crabs, they were steaming hot. They were reasonably priced. Some of the seafood is super local, others they get from the mainland. I opted for some Chincoteague oysters which were so deliciously briny and fresh. The crabs were also locally and recently caught. Sometimes you gotta be ready to buy what's been caught, you know? That being said, I also enjoyed our rockfish that they had purchase for selling. Maybe next time I'll get some of the clams too. While the main draw is the local fresh seafood, they do sell a few other items like local hot sauces, seasonings, and even equipment like crab mallets and oyster knives (which was good, because my rental property didn't have one and I didn't want to shell out $20 extra to have my oysters pre-shucked). Next time I'm staying on Chincoteague, I will be ordering from Ricky's. Highly recommended!

There is a small lot behind the restaurant. It was easy and there was plenty of parking since it was the off season. I did not have a reservation but, I was seated as a party of one pretty quick. The tables were draped with white table cloths, a nice table side light, sweeteners, tall clear glasses with a black napkin and tall salt and pepper shakers. The walls were a darker and lighter gray, hues of black and whites scattered throughout. I was in love with the old photos and the black and white prints throughout. There was a stunning glass sculpture hanging from the center of the dining room. It maybe a Chihuly glass chandelier. If it is not it resembles it. Hues of amber, orange and whites. My waitress came over within a few minutes and took my drink order. She informed me of the specials and brought over some bread, butter and herbed oil. I just had to try the cream of crab. On the menu it states it's a tight lipped recipe. The cream of crab was delicious. They have done their own spin on it. It came out piping hot. It had a slight kick to it, as if there was some sort of pepper in it... jalapeño? Could just be regular ground pepper. Overall, it was pretty good. My meal came with a choice of salad. It was either a garden salad, Caesar salad or tropical salad. I ordered the garden salad with ranch dressing. The salad was ok. Nothing to rave about. It had shoestring carrots, two cherry tomatoes and 2-3 types of lettuce. It did the job. I had the waitress choose my main dish for me. I could not decide. It was between the stuffed shrimp (stuffed with crab imperial), or the crab cakes. I opted for the vegetable of the day which was green beans. My waitress surprised me with stuffed shrimp, broiled. I'm so glad she went with the broiled vs fried option. She said it was the best way to go. The crab imperial was creamy and flavorful. The shrimp were a little on the smaller side. I personally did noThe green beans were nicely seasoned. For dessert I had the waitress choose agin. A choice between their strawberry shortcake which was a special, white chocolate coconut cream pie, or the vanilla crème brûlée. She chose well, the coconut cream pie. It was so good! I saw other tables around me being delivered their food and everything looked really good. This place is definitely a popular eatery. They will remain on the list to come back.

Being in mid March, we were offered a table close to the bar (away from the windows), so we'd stay warmer --but we couldn't resist the lure of sitting on the high chairs and looking out at the boat traffic, sparse as it was. So we just kept our light jackets on. Once the food and drinks began arriving and the music cranked up a bit, the place easily felt twenty degrees warmer anyway. The food was really good. Fresh, savory, done just right. The waitress was helpful: proactive, attentive, but also gave space. We ate at several other restaurants in Chincoteague that weekend, but this one was by far the best!

I started off with the crabcake egg rolls and thought they were amazing - they're the main reason I want to come back. They were $18 for four pieces (two egg rolls cut in half), so the pricing isn't really competitive there, but I really enjoyed them. It was backfin meat or something, but there was a lot of it, and they were served hot and crispy with a tasty remoulade. I got the seafood cobb salad as a main. For $23 it was a little underwhelming. It came with a pile of "lump" crabmeat in the middle as well as six medium sized, cold shrimp, bacon, corn, and some whole cherry tomatoes. I kept forgetting there was crab meat in the salad and for the price there wasn't a ton of shrimp. But it was certainly edible, especially with the blue cheese dressing. I tried the pineapple-orange vinaigrette and that was interesting as well. For dessert I got the Mississippi mud cake which was tasty, but pretty small for $8. My partner got a dozen oysters and enjoyed them. We sat inside and the view of the water was gorgeous. It's the beginning of April and it was packed (we waited about 30 minutes) early Friday night. We sat outside in the sandy area until we were called, which was nice. Service was friendly and fairly prompt. Despite the prices, Ropewalk's got nice service and a great ambiance, so I'm looking forward to coming back and trying something new next time we visit.
