Fried flounder basket w fries and hush puppies

We stopped here because we saw what looked like a seafood boil in the pics and wanted that and couldn't find a menu online to verify so we figured we would take a chance and head there. Well, they didn't have that anymore on their menu which was disappointing because it looked delish but we got some other items which were all really good and at a reasonable price. The fried flounder was light and fresh and not greasy or heavy to fishy. Fries are clearly homemade and not frozen out of a bag and delicious. Hush puppies were great. We also had the steamed shrimp which were delish, fresh and a good sized portion. Service was great. Place wasn't very busy when we arrived and seems to be more of a local hidden gem than a touristy overpriced place that you usually see. Well worth traveling a bit off the beaten path for dinner...

This is a very small restaurant that features fresh seafood at very reasonable prices. It is situated less that 15 feet away from the water at the end of a working fishing marina with stacked crab pots along the road. It was cloudy the night we were there but on a sunny day it would probably be picturesque. We tried steamed shrimp and steamed clams. Both done perfectly. Crab dip was tasty Fried Soft Crabs were lovely and crunchy. It's worth the drive to Greenbackville. Expect to wait for a table if they are busy, and since it's so small they can get busy quick.

I ordered a soft crab basket. There are two softshell crabs in an order. Crab tastes very dry.

It was a busy night (our waitress apologized, explaining that they had two 12-tops and that was the main reason things were going slowly). We ordered the children's food first hoping it would come out sooner, but even that took a while. The tapas menu seems to change a bit, and we got the Crispy Hot Honey Oysters. They were perfectly done with just the right amount of crust on top of a just-cooked oyster. Child #2 devoured them and declared that he loves fried oysters (and he had never had them before here). They sadly had run out of the scallop ceviche and nothing else was grabbing us so we went with the main menu. My wife got a Chicken So-Cal, which has mashed avocado, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle aioli; basic, but she liked it. I got the Baja Fish Tacos (2), which that night was flounder. Pretty straightforward fried fish taco - a nice crema and cabbage with lime was a good meal. Child #1 is a vegetarian and we came here for the solid options available. While he opted for a simple cheese quesadilla from the kids' menu, we also got a Captain Jack, which is a jackfruit-based vegetarian take on the Kalua Pork sandwich. It had a nice shred to it and a little sweetness from the pineapple. Definitely recommended. Child #2 has never met a burger he didn't like and the kids' menu burger was surprisingly large. Fries and sweet potato fries were standard and good. There is an extensive wine list with a lot of sauvignon blancs on the whites list. I got one that was very well described on the list, right down to identifying notes of gooseberry. It went well with my tacos. They also offer several local beers as well as domestic options. I saw someone getting cocktails at the bar, but the menu offered to us didn't include any of those options; I might have preferred a cocktail, but oh well. Our waitress was kind and attentive. It was a bit slow due to lots of other folks, but that wasn't her fault. The prices were reasonable for a beach town.

Usually it's later in the evening when they're already closed, or it's Monday-Wednesday when they're not open when we're heading back home. This time it was around 7:00, we were driving by, and I thought, "Let's stop in and grab some dinner and try something new." The first thing we noticed getting out of the car was the smell outside, which honestly wasn't very pleasant. Across the street there are several chicken barns, so I'm assuming that may have been part of it. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and told to sit wherever we liked. Inside is very nicely decorated. There's a counter with a few seats, several two- and four-top tables, and through a small hallway there are larger tables that I'm guessing become communal seating when it gets busy. Our server, Jaylin, came over quickly to take our drink order. He explained the beer options and mentioned they had homemade lemonade and sweet tea. My wife asked for unsweet tea but they only offer sweet tea, so she ended up getting water. I ordered the sweet tea and they definitely weren't kidding -- it's sweet! For dinner we ordered the three-meat plate with brisket and pit beef, along with collard greens and coleslaw. The food came out looking good, and I actually took a picture, but of course now I can't find it on my phone. The one disappointing thing was the brisket presentation. Instead of sliced brisket, it came out looking more like a pile of shredded beef. The meat itself was tender and flavorful, and some pieces had a nice bark on them. The pit beef was also tender and served warm, although I was expecting more traditional sliced beef. The collard greens were very good. I asked for some cider vinegar for them and was initially told they didn't have any. A few minutes later, a gentleman walked by and asked how everything was. I mentioned the vinegar situation and he immediately said they had gallons of it and brought some over, which I appreciated. The coleslaw just wasn't my style. I prefer shredded cabbage slaw, while theirs was chopped. It wasn't bad -- we still finished it -- just not my personal preference. I noticed another table got cornbread that looked really good, so I ordered a piece. Unfortunately, that was another small disappointment. It looked good on the outside, but once I cut into it, it was very dense and seemed to be mostly cornmeal without any actual corn in it. After taking a bite, it also seemed like it may have been microwaved because the inside had a rubbery texture. Overall, the meats were good and the sides were solid. One thing to note: make sure you read the ENTIRE menu carefully. There is a $5 upcharge for double meat. Yes, it's printed in red, but I completely overlooked it. Personally, I don't think the extra meat was worth the additional charge, and had I noticed it beforehand I probably would have ordered something different. It would have been nice if the server had casually mentioned the upcharge when ordering. Honestly, he probably would have gotten a better tip. They also offer homemade desserts, which I'll definitely try next time. Another table ordered the bread pudding and it looked amazing. One last thing: I understand we were there close to closing time, but while we were still eating, Jaylin started sweeping the rugs at the entrance inside the restaurant and rolling them up. That's probably something that should either be done outside or after the last customers leave. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and definitely look forward to stopping in again whenever we come through while they're open.

For the food, the brisket cheesesteak, chili, and chorizo mac and cheese were my favorites, they were very flavorful. However, I do wish the cheesesteak had some onions and peppers in it, if that was an option, then I would have definitely added some into my cheesesteak. The loaded grilled cheese had a lot more meat than cheese, and was very sweet which was a bit unexpected but it tasted good overall. The empanada was part of a restaurant attached to Annabelle's and taste-wise, the empanada was ok. I did enjoy this place a lot and would recommend stopping by while on a trip in OC!

We ate in the dining room which was 1/2 the Mexican restaurant and half the BBQ fare. The wait was much less than originally expected. We were seated and asked for our drink orders which were good My husband ordered the wings (very good) and brisket sandwich which was just meh, it arrived cold and lackluster, missing the expected flavor of BBQ brisket. The fries were good and the BBQ seasoning for fries was equally good. One daughter ordered a plain quesadilla and ate it but did not love it. The other ordered a mushroom quesadilla was very good but she did not really like the pork and cheese empanada. I tasted it and it was decent but way too greasy. The guacamole was very good (lots of oil in the bottom of the bowl) and the chips were crispy and very well seasoned. I ordered the carne asada special and it was delicious. Here's where the service went down hill. The carne asada did not need any sauce but I wanted to try the BbQ sauces on the table. The first one I tried, when I squeezed the bottle the entire top came off (it was not threaded and closed properly) and the whole bottle of sauce poured out over my entire meal. I took another tray from the quesadilla and moved my steak and rice to it. When the runner came over the clear the empty plates i told him, and advised the bottle needed to be refilled. He barely apologized and said he'd be back to fill the Bottle and took the sauce soaked plate. I then mentioned it to our server who simply said "sorry about that" We were looking forward to the twist ice cream but they were out of vanilla. So we left and went to another local creamery. We probably won't be back here if ever return to OC.
