This is my stop for the best artisan bread and pastries. I got up early, to get there before they sold out of the goodies I've been thinking about. I really like that I can select from the old world German Artisan collection and the Hawaiian Artisan baked goods. I snagged the Isabelle, a loaf of bread made of spelt (dinkel wheat, high in protein, fiber, and antioxidants) and rolled in an assortment of seeds. The texture is soft and the crust is slightly chewy. Just right and the taste is very satisfying. I can't bring myself to putting a slice into the toaster, though, because I don't want to risk losing any of the seeds. I'll be fine with the broiler and some butter. I also went for the Hawaiian Bread. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It has pineapple, toasted coconut and tiny soft raisins. The bread is moist from the pineapple juice and the loaves are small. I could finish one off in a setting but I resisted the urge. I also bought extras for sharing and had to pass them out quickly before temptation called. I'll return soon.

Best Hawaiian muffins ever! So good. Dong pass up on the lillikoi bun either! Service was quick and very kind. It's in a cute little plaza by snorkel bobs and that's a wrap. It's a must!

My wife and I were a big fan of this place during our stay in Maui! My wife loved the banana bread, it was delicious and moist! I love the ube mochi. It had strong ube flavors and the texture was perfect. Parking is a small lot but enough parking. I highly recommend when you're in Maui!

We love this bakery, and make sure to visit it several times during our visit to Maui. It's always a good idea to get there early before everything is gone. I especially love their macaroons and extra long coconut biscotti, but this year I found their Chocolate Pretzel Croissant outstanding!! The salty and sweet just made it perfect. Of course their breads and rolls are yummy too! Staff is always helpful and welcoming. We'll be back next year.

This shop has the best breads. Parking lot is small and shared with quite a few shops but people seem to come and go alot so be patient and you'll snag a spot. There is so much to choose from I picked the cinnamon roll and a lilikoi filled pastry. There are a few tables outside but decided to take them home. Both were SO good, I will definately buy these again. The cinnamon roll was so soft and tender and the pastry had so much filling. Be sure to go early for the best selection they sell out quickly of many items. There is usually a line of people waiting for them to open at 7.

Soo much variety - have to come back to try more. We got the Hawaiian Muffin and Lilikoi Sweet Bun. The muffin had macadamia nuts, coconut, etc. so good!! The bun was sweet and tart. Cashier was so kind :) Will be back to take some goodies to go!

Another visit to Maui and another beautiful morning on the beach with a breakfast treat from Maui Bread. They have many options to choose from. It's hard to walk away with only one or two items. They have some warm items like ham and cheese twist, pineapple and cheese twist. Oh no, I am making myself hungry, might need to go back.

Cute little shop with fresh pastries- definitely worth the stop. We ordered the Pina colada sweet bun, pretzel croissant, and Pineapple & ham twist. The bread is so soft when you bite in to it. The pina colada sweet bun is moist and has pineapple & coconut shavings- I would order this every time. The pretzel croissant perfectly flakey, soft, & salty. The pineapple & ham twist had that sweet & savory mix. Parking- parking lot shared with other businesses

We love visiting Maui Bread company when we're in Kihei! There are plenty of breads and pastries to choose from. They also have a lovely display area with little jars of jellies, butters, and chutneys with different flavors - lilikoi (passion fruit), guava, mango, and coconut pineapple! We got the Lilikoi Sweet Bun, Pina Colada Sweet Bun, and the Paprika, Onion, Cheese Roll. While we enjoyed them all, the Pina Colada Sweet Bun was my personal favorite. The Lilikoi Sweet Bun was pretty tart and was FILLED with lilikoi jam.

Took our dough home and made a fabulous pizza

they have such wonderful food in although you have to get there early because they sell well worth the early morning rise from your to your custard and meat You can find anything you want here and if you can't, you can grab unbaked dough and take it home and make it yourself. The employees are very courteous and very genuinely helpful so be sure to ask

Every visit I have in Maui I stopped by for their ginger Cookie. Every encounter I have is pleasant. Today I came in to take some for my workers to try their POG bread for our red eye flight back. The very special person Elfie helped me choose some options. I was glad to try some Macadamia Cookie, Ginger Cookie and Pog loaf bread. Thank you for your hospitality will visit sometime soon again when work takes me back

We came here a couple of times during our time here and thought overall the baked goods were pretty good. We had the macnut muffin, pretzel croissant (both sell out frequently we were told), the chocolate croissant, and the cheese, paprika and onion bread. The macnut muffin was the best of these pastries. Very fresh and good but also more like a muffin top since it's small. The pretzel croissant lived up to its name and tasted like both things -- was good but it had a bit too much salt. The cheese bread had too much onion in it and the seeds in it were a pleasant surprise (even though the ingredients did not list the seeds). The chocolate croissant was a huge disappointment. It was literally a croissant cut open and filled with chocolate chips -- the chocolate was not even melted. The staff here are friendly and it's nice that have ku'ia chocolate here -- we went on a chocolate tour on a prior visit and it was nice that they sold the chocolates there without having to go to that chocolate store. It's very good chocolate!

Ashley W.

Really cool counter-service bakery with baked goodies. The coffee selection is limited with one hot and one cold option. I had the sweet roll guava in the middle and the guava juice. Both were not overly sweetened and were a huge portion in my opinion (sorry for no pic, next time). Seating is outside and the staff is supppppper friendly. You can smell the baking dough from the parking lot. There is ample free parking and other shops in the complex to visit. I would totally recommend!!!!

This place is a MUST. We stopped by here each morning in Maui to grab pastries, grabbed coffee from the shop next door, and brought our food to the beach to watch the sunrise. I purposely went here because they have GF items. The banana bread was insanely good. I could have eaten the entire loaf in one day. Get there early though! Stuff sells out very fast. I will go back to try other GF items as well. My husband's banana bread and macadamia nut cookie were amazing as well. Would definitely recommend. read more

The gingersnap cookie ended up a lot better than I thought. Usually afraid to much sugar but really well done and tasted great. This is a TOURIST TRAP! I had a fedling when i stepped inside. The bread had a sticky residue similar to what you see on highly preserved cakes (think sarah lee pound cakes) and tasted just the same. I got a blondie, coconut bread, and banana bread. All tasted like overly processed and overly sweetend garbage. I asked when these items were made and got a nervous 'either today or yesterday'...how can they tell? There are no dates on the packaging.....please save your money and time. I threw everything away after a few bites of each, truly the worst thing i ate mh entire time on Maui. read more

I went in the morning to have some quick breakfast snacks before my hike. The coconut coffee iced drink was perfect. I had some sweet pineapple bread which my husband really light. And I got some savory bread with the cheese and bacon which was made well. I would say the dough is a little bit on the heavier side then I usually life or baked goods and that is the reason for the four stars. But that said, the variety and the flavoring of the baked goods make up for that. read more

Specialties

We offer a large selection of Hawaiian and German Artisan baked goods. Our flavor profile ranges from passion fruit, coconut, macNut, Passion Orange Guava (POG), pineapple, banana, mango. We also offer a large selection of Gluten Free options to serve our customers.

History

Established in 2016.

We started our journey on Oct 3rd, 2016. We wanted to live up to the words of "Maui Bread Company" and honor the multiple cultures that make up Maui. In search of the perfect place to open up a German Bakery, Christine and Steve visited the four major Hawaiian islands in late 2019. It was more than a coincidence that they met the owners of Maui Bread Company at that time. When they heard what Steve and Christine were looking for and the German couple heard what they own, all jaws dropped. Originally, it was not planned to sell the bakery. But after some conversations it became clear that Maui Bread Company would be the perfect platform to introduce "German Artisan Bread" as an additional product line. The ownership changed at the beginning of 2020.

Meet the Business Owner: Steve and Christine L.

Founded in 2016 and owned by a local family as a Fusion Gourmet Bread Shop, Maui Bread Company LLC was and still is passionate about baking and our customers! During the first 4 years of its existence, we have introduced products with Hawaiian and Asian influences. We are well known for our local flavors, our Aloha's, and our unique ability to combine the best of Eastern and Western baking. Many customers call us the gluten-free authority on Maui. No matter what the product is, we sincerely believe quality is everything. The ownership changed to the German couple Christine and Steve at the beginning of 2020. The team of the bake shop consisting of local experts has been added by two German Master Bakers. And new equipment from Germany has been added to the bake shop. The new breads, pretzels and rolls are on the shelves. The next time you're on Maui, come let our ohana show you our tradition, quality, taste and hospitality. E Kipa Mai!

I recently visited MAUI BREAD CO, and I was absolutely blown away by their selection of German artisan breads and Hawaiian fusion bread. The moment I stepped inside, the warm, inviting aroma of freshly baked bread enveloped me, setting the stage for a delightful experience. The German artisan breads were nothing short of exceptional. I tried the traditional rye and the hearty sourdough, both of which showcased the bakery's commitment to quality and craftsmanship. The rye was perfectly dense, with a rich flavor that paired beautifully with a spread of illikoi or mango butter or cheese. The sourdough had a wonderfully crisp crust and a soft, chewy interior, making it ideal for sandwiches or simply enjoying on its own. Equally impressive was their Hawaiian fusion bread, which offered a unique twist that I hadn't encountered before. The combination of tropical flavors, such as coconut and pineapple, infused into the soft, fluffy bread was a delightful surprise. It was slightly sweet, making it perfect for breakfast or as a snack throughout the day. I couldn't resist taking home a loaf! The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff eager to share their knowledge about the different breads. If you're a bread lover or simply looking to try something new, I highly recommend visiting this place. You won't be disappointed! read more

Gluten-Free Macadamia Nut Cookie - A Must-Try at Maui Bread Company Maui Bread Company's Gluten-Free Macadamia Nut Cookie is an absolute delight! Crisp on the edges with a perfectly chewy center, this cookie is packed with rich, buttery macadamia nuts that add the perfect crunch and flavor. Despite being gluten-free, the texture is spot on--soft, slightly crumbly, and incredibly satisfying. What makes this cookie stand out is the balance of sweetness and nuttiness. The macadamia nuts bring a creamy, almost caramel-like richness, and the dough has a subtle hint of vanilla and brown sugar that enhances every bite. It's a great option whether you're gluten-free by necessity or just love a high-quality cookie. Pair it with a cup of coffee, and you have the perfect treat while strolling through Kihei. If you're visiting Maui Bread Company, don't leave without trying this gluten-free gem! read more

Friendly service with a small variety of a lot of different baked goods. Different breads such as banana walnut (very heavy on the walnut ingredient) pineapple, POG and a few others. A few different types of cookies, scones, and granola. During breakfast there are a few warmed baked goods such as the bacon braid or chili and cheddar bun. All items baked in house with fresh ingredients however prices are higher than I'd expect (think $4 per cookie, and almost $6 for a personal size loaf of bread). I would not go out of your way but might consider if you're in the area already. read more

I was disappointed in this place. I was excited about the GF options. I tried the lilikoi Mochi-I do not recommend. It tasted almost perfume-y. I tried the ube Mochi-I do not recommend. It was extremely dry, hard, and tasted like a sponge. The GF banana bread was nice and soft. It was good but it had a strong cinnamon(?) like taste so I got sick of it quickly. I think the mochis were extremely overpriced. I took the ube and lilikoi butter home and they were so good!! The employees here are pleasant but it's very overpriced as far as the GF items. read more
