Stopped here while visiting Key West and read that the key lime pie was great, so I had to try it. I did and it was amazing! It was the perfect combination of sweetness, tartness and creaminess and I really enjoyed the crust. The other desserts they offered looked great too. The vibe was friendly and I'd definitely come back!
I thought I had figured out where I had to get my Keylime pie in Key West but then I walked by this! Wow, was I glad I did! Everything was super indulgent delectable Devine, and like grandma made it right in front of you fresh! Absolutely the best Keylime pie I've ever had in my life. And the best Keylime pie in Key West in my opinion. The cookies are like no other. They taste right out of the oven in large enough to share with a few friends unless you're really hungry.
CHOCOLATE CHIP MANIA... There are three Mattheessen's Candy Kitchen locations within Key West open until midnight. As we walked by the Duval Street shop, we noticed gigantic cookies in the display window ready for human consumption. There was a line forming from outside and it was elbow to elbow outside, this seemed like a popular late night snack joint so we checked it out. Ordered a Frisbee sized chocolate chip cookie, look at my hand vs the cookie size in the pic, its crazy. For $7.00, they offer these mammoth cookies offered in oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and sugar. The cookie was lightly warm, and flapped over in my hand with the chocolate chips slowly melting. We also purchased ice cream, which was good on a warm night, but nothing compared to the cookie. Maybe next time we will try the thick fudge slices, priced at $18.95 per pound with a buy two get one free deal.
Great little ice cream shop on Duval Street in Key West! We were drawn in by the huge cookies in the window. The decor was so cute with large ice cream cones suspended from the ceiling. My kids got ice cream and I split a chocolate chip cookie with the hubs. I'm not a big sweets eater but did enjoy the soft chewy cookie! The lines were long (one line for cream and one for cookies) but we were greeted immediately upon entering and the wait was short. The place was small so you had to turn sideways to stay in line as people exited.
If you are looking for a sugary treat then this place might be for you. They sell oversized cookie, slices of key lime pie, chocolate dipped macaroons the size of a base ball. Service is quick and at the counter. The shop has a relaxed atmosphere.

The price point is about 7.50 per cookie but worth it to share with the whole family. They also have other sweet treats like ice cream and Tropical covered Keylime pies. If you're ever in Key West, you definitely need to stop in here.

The one that's a must get is the peanut butter fudge - you will know it when you see it!!! We split it between 7 people. Perfect. The cookies display is what really sold out. Plentiful. Beautifully displayed. We ordered 3 cookies. They were huge. As big as someone's face. We also tried a flavor of ice cream because they allowed us to sample. Our total was about $30 which was a lot for 3 cookies! One of them was a special cookie as it had fudge on top so it cost more - $11-12. It was a yummy sweet treat for the end of the night though.
This is not the first time I visit this amazing cookie and ice cream store, but it's the first time I've actually purchased a cookie. I opted for the Peanut Butter and Fudge cookie which was $12. It sounds expensive but it's huge. I can honestly say that it was worth every penny and I will not visit Key West without purchasing this cookie again. Wow. Has to be my favorite peanut butter cookie.
We wanted Key Lime Pie in Key West, and I read some posting that mentioned Mattheessen's. When I walked into the store, I almost forgot about the pie as I saw the cookies, fudge, and ice cream! The Key Lime Pie at Mattheessen's is deelish (despite the difficulty I'm having typing out the store's name...lol). It is not too tart and goes well with whipped cream (ALWAYS say yes to whipped cream). If you are Jonesing for Key Lime Pie, go to Mattheessen's!

The place to go if you are craving huge freshly baked cookies in Key West. There are several locations in Key West so Mattheessen's takes the cake in terms of convenience in this small coastal city in Florida. When we visited though, we often went to the large store located on Duval Street. In terms of food, Mattheessen's offers a variety of desserts, including cookies, brownies and key lime pie. But what drew us were the huge cookies. We ordered the peanut butter chocolate cookie, peanut butter cookie and regular chocolate chip, and they all blew us away. Service was also good and we had cookies in hand not long after going into the store. The price was also fair for such huge cookies. If you want a cookie or something else sweet, you definitely won't go wrong by giving Mattheessen's a try.

AMAZINGGGGG!! Enjoyed everything we had here, but specifically went back multiple times for the gigantic cookies. We tried the peanut butter, chocolate chip, and the peanut butter cookie with fudge and peanut butter on top. All three were perfection, so moist, and still fresh tasting the next day. I also loved the frozen key lime pie slice dipped in chocolate! read more
We stopped off here to grab a giant chocolate chip cookie to go for much later. These are huge and plenty to share. One cookie is equivalent to 2-4 typical sized homemade. Great flavor and texture. Store is clean and appears well maintained. Staff are friendly and helpful, as well as patient with indecisive customer choices! read more

Homemade ice cream and the softest freshest giant cookie I've ever had. I thought it would be too rich and sweet but it was not. Don't get me wrong, it was sweet but the flavors were well balanced. Service was phenomenal. We asked what flavor the worker thought was the best and her favorite was the toasted coconut. Immediately yes. It was perfect. Creamy but not too sweet. The toasted coconut flavor was very nice. I will be definitely be making this a must do stop on any future visits to Key West. Mattheessen's is a local ice cream and cookie bakery in Key West. They have a few locations dotted around the island. This location we went to was small with a small counter with a couple stools but that's it for seating so plan to stand inside or walk outside to eat. read more

Friendly staff and delicious key lime pie that was the perfect size for 1 person. I was so full and saved literally 1 last bite in the fridge for the next day and it was still delicious. The Cookie Monster was too much though; it was 3 scoops of ice cream on top of a huge cookie. It can definitely be shared between a few people. This shop is worth a try if you're craving something sweet! read more

It was a boiling hot day in July and the feel of the air conditioning whispered to us to come inside. We had an old fashioned root beer float and some cake batter ice cream. The cashier was so nice and allowed us to sample before making our choices. Also, they sell cookies the size of your head! It was a great respite from the heat and just delicious! read more

How can anyone walk past this store and not come in for a sweet treat !?!?! The store specializes in fudge, ice cream, cookies, and anything else sweet ! We walked in with our friends and before we knew it, we all walked out with an oatmeal raisin cookie the size of a handbag !! It was huge ! Easily 8 or 10 inches wide, half a pound in weight. The cookie was delicious and moist...just perfectly made. To give you some history on the shop, I can tell you that in 1993, the Mattheessen's moved to Key West and opened a coffee kiosk named after their daughter, "Kayla's Cafe." Not long after, they expanded to open a fudge and cookie store. With the success of that fudge and cookie store now they have three locations in Key West. Mattheessen's serves only the freshest products using quality ingredients. Once you bite into one of their half-pound cookies, sample their marble slab fudge, try their refreshingly sweet chocolate dipped key lime pie, or have a lick of their homemade ice cream, you'll be coming back for more. During past visits to the island, I have sampled many of their delicacies. Everything sold in the store is made in the store. read more

Great ice cream. Great fresh-baked cookies (baked on-site and especially delicious straight from the oven!). Warning: The Brownie Monster is not recommended as a single-serving dessert. Homemade ice cream + free samples = happy day! Fresh GINORMOUS baked goods also available, no samples though. Brownies and cookies looked and smelled amazing. Staff were friendly, patient, and helpful. Wife celebrated her birthday with 2 scoops -- mint chip, Cuban coffee -- in a waffle cone ($10 w tip). Cold, creamy, and not cavity inducing sweet! No restrooms so plan accordingly. read more

The front of the store is the best advertisement there can be. The cookies in the window are huge, smell great, and are all different varieties. The girl working when we went in was super sweet, friendly, and helpful. We ended up getting the chocolate peanut butter...and it was so so good! I will crave it for sure read more

I Love cookies. I'm always looking for the Best! This place was good. Especially if you like a doughy type of cookie - Chocolate chip. Large enough to share! I has oatmeal raisin and it was good as well. Sugar was probably the best! They have 3 locations. $7.00 per cookie They have many types of Cookies. Some with chocolate on the bottom. Something for everyone. I would definitely recommend and probably go again. read more
I had a sweet tooth after drinking in the early evening and was so happy that this place was still opened late. It closes at midnight so made it just in time to get a little something sweet! The ice cream is in the back and they have a good variety of flavors. I went with the Key Lime and Khalua Almond Fudge. Super delish! After this I continued on my merry way on Duval Street. read more

Smells like heaven in here. The perfect cookies! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Busy but the line moved quickly. In and out in 5 minutes. This place is a must any time you're in The Keys! read more
This place is directly across the street from my hotel and the aroma of freshly baked cookies just lures you in. They have variety of giant size cookies priced at $6 to $7 each. They also have fudge bars, ice cream, coconut macaroons, and slices of key lime pie. I ordered a macadamia nut cookie and my friend had the key lime pie. My cookie was soft and so delicious and my friend said he enjoyed the key lime pie. The shop was very well lit up and the staff seemed pretty friendly. Personally, I had to really think about the $7 dollar price tag for a cookie. I know their location is on a very popular street in Key West. It's a tough spot I'm in, cause I can see the justification, so I don't want to be too harsh. Also, I came across a one star review that spoke about COVID procedures. I can see why they had the concern about products being exposed out on top of the counter. Masks are not the only protector from COVID. I am not one of those people that is highly afraid of being exposed to COVID but for others folks that are afraid, I would share my view for them. "Social distancing of the cookies" if you will. If I can get as close as I did for the photo, just something to think about. Still love your products though. A sweet treat after a fun day in the sun! Many ice cream and cookie options, and huge servings. They also had fudge out for sampling, which was delicious. The flow is a bit strange since you walk to the back to choose your ice cream flavor then come back to the middle to check out, but thankfully it wasn't busy so no issues. read more
