The flavor was absolutely incredible -- perfectly balanced between tart, sweet, and creamy with a fresh lime taste that really stood out. Every bite tasted homemade and thoughtfully crafted. What shocked me most was finding out it was gluten free. If nobody had told me, I never would have guessed. The texture was spot on, the crust was amazing, and nothing about it felt like a "substitute" dessert. Just genuinely outstanding pie. It's close to Mallory Square, and they even have their own space where the pies are made. I chatted briefly with the staff, and they told me that yes, this really is the place where it all started. They also mentioned that many other spots claiming to be "the original" actually get either their ingredients or their pies from here. Overall, it's a cute little spot. Besides pies, they sell cupcakes, coffee, and a variety of general goodies and touristy items. We grabbed a small, cozy two seater high table by the window and enjoyed their tart pie. And yes--be ready for that sharp tang that hits your jaw at first and then grows on you! There are benches outside too, and it felt peaceful sitting there. The pie costs $7.

They also sell miniature cookies that taste remarkably like key lime pie, each one dusted in flavored powders. The main attraction, however, is the cake counter, where numerous varieties of key lime pie await their fate. The pies come neatly packaged in small takeout containers, making them wonderfully convenient to carry while wandering about Key West, or to bring home before the Florida heat claims them. The shop itself is rather small, with limited room for indoor dining. There is outdoor seating available, though most visitors simply claim their chosen delicacy and disappear into the streets, leaving only the faint scent of lime and sugar behind. Naturally, I asked whether I might speak with Kermit himself. I was informed that he was away on a visit to Fraggle Rock and had recently suffered an unfortunate encounter with the Count. The details were not discussed, though the silence that followed was ominous. All in all, Kermit's Key West is a convenient and enjoyable stop for anyone with a fondness for key lime pie. The variety is excellent, the portions are easy to handle, and the desserts are perfect for enjoying on the move or surviving whatever strange adventures may await beyond the door.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I did purchase the mini gluten free pie and it was delicious. It was not the brighter colored green that some people expect out of the pie; which I appreciated because I don't want added ingredients and colors in my food. The key lime flavor came through and the pie itself was a lighter fluffier texture which made it easier to justify eating the entire thing. I recommend either a visit or just an online order straight to your door!

WEAK CRUST... When…read moreyou come to Key West there are a few things that are mandatory on the TO DO LIST...and one is key lime pie with some shops even going as far as labeling their pies World Famous. Strangely, I have been coming to the Keys for over 40 years and have never had a key lime pie. This shop had key lime pie in a plastic cup for easy eating on the go. The shop allowed customers to view the very clean kitchen while they ate the pies. We came with a bunch of people and ordered a few key lime pies and we dug in. THE RESULTS ARE IN: Creamy with a nice sweet key lime taste but at the very bottom was the graham crackers crust (i hope it was) but was very thinly grinded the texture was not what I expected - just a big disappointment but maybe the full pies are better, but i assume the same ingredients. Each one of us in my group had the same high expectation that fell short.

We were walking around semi-aimlessly at the north end of Duval, and had actually just done a lap around Mallory Square and the cruise ship area. We were pretty tired from all the walking. Nothing charges me up as much as a bowl of Ice cream so we popped in. Service was nice enough, straight forward. We got just what we wanted(a snickers ice cream and a peppermint) at the price we thought we would get(a touristy price). It's not right on Duval so you have to walk around to find it. And it's not well marked so even better for the line. In fact when we got there I thought there would be a large line, it was perfect ice cream weather. But since it is not obvious to find, there was no line at all. If you needing a cup or a cone at the north end of the strip, it's a good quick stop.
