It was super late and my friend and I just needed a quick bite. This was in the area and got good reviews. We went with the corn and crab soup and the seafood soup. I liked the seafood one better. But both were tasty! We then got a roti which came with a chicken curry. I've never had roti at a Japanese/Asian place. But it was delish! I wish it came with more than just one roti. Last we ordered the eel/cucumber/avo roll and out of control roll. Both yummy! The place is run by a Malaysian woman who was super nice. All the staff were really polite and friendly as well. Everything I've tried (and I've tried a lot, albeit, the vegetarian/pescatarian side of the menu) is spot on. - Entire staff is attentive & genuinely appreciative of your business, which is increasingly hard to come by, whether dining in or ordering take out. - Quality of delivery orders has been impeccable as well. I think this is a small feat considering the complexity & quantity of items in the order(s), ranging from appetizers such as summer rolls to sushi, clearly needing to be kept cool, to hot entrees - all delivered at the perfect temperature! I have already said in a prior review how much I love this gem in Hampton Bays and that has not changed in light of the pandemic. The quality and food portions have not missed a beat during covid. They are still only doing delivery/takeout but dont let that stop you from enjoying their huge menu. They have so many different and interesting dishes that I could try something different every night and all are presented really well. I have found with some other restaurants that you are being charged ridiculous prices (even for the Hamptons), yet the quality is not there. Thats not happening here. I've been thinking about trying Matsulin for quite a while now, and since it was my daughters birthday, we decided to try it for a late lunch. We got there about 2:30 and found out they didn't open until 5pm (I wish I had known that). But, since the day was nice and we had time to kill, we roamed around the antique stores and took a ride to the beach until opening time. I must say the food was delicious, and the presentation of each dish was extraordinary. The total for 2 for dinner, with tip, was about $90, but well worth it for an occasional treat. I will definitely keep this on my list of places to go when I want Asian cuisine. read more

I have been trying to find a place that serves Pad Thai on the east end of Long Island for months. Matsulin is that place! Pad Thai reminds me of home and I was so bummed when I couldn't find anywhere that had it on this part of the Island. That's exemplary of the niche this restaurant fills: when you're craving well-executed, flavorful, Asian food that your local greasy take out place can't pull off, go here. I've gone to Matsulin twice so far, and I was very satisfied overall both times. I ordered food for takeout the first time and got the Crazy Lover sushi roll, which consisted of an appealing combination of salmon, avacado, and cucumbers. The lady that took my order, Nicole, was very nice and we chatted for a bit about the history of the place as well as the new computer system they just installed. I went there with my cousin for lunch the second time and we ate in the restaurant. The atmosphere was very quiet and the entire place was well lit by sunlight. I ordered the Pink Lady sushi roll (avacado and spicy tuna) as well as the Pad Woon Sen (Thailand) meal. Both were delicious and didn't stand a chance against my hunger. My cousin ordered the Chicken Teriyaki (Japan) as well as a Bento Box, which came with three different types of sushi. She enjoyed both orders and was kind enough to shovel a few of the tuna rolls onto my plate. Both of our meals came with Miso soup, and her meal came with a bowl of sticky white rice which I also ate. The service was very good as well. The water refills were frequent, and we didn't have to wait very long between the soup, sushi, and entree orders. There wasn't much in the way of friendly small talk with our waiter, but he was very pleasant and attentive. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit so I can try out some different sushi options. read more

Menu is very descriptive and lets you know what is & isn't spicy so you aren't hit with surprises. I've never had a bad meal here. My girlfriend and I have recently discovered more desserts options. While it is only limited to ice cream, fried ice cream and fried banana - we've fallen in love with the fried ice cream. The weird thing is the ice cream comes out shaped like a banana so you think you've ordered the wrong this. Trust us, its delicious. Nice job Matsulin. read more

Came for some good food on Sunday noon because it was rated 4 stars. Cant believe these crazy prices!! 18 bucks for pad thai?!! You can get amazing Pad Thai in NYC for $13 bucks. Also, the service is terrible. There is one older gentleman that was definitely not welcoming. The man does not talk at all. Just lays the dish down and leaves. Left a negative impression... HOWEVER there is a younger gentleman that has been A+ waiter. He has been the positive point of this e The food is good though, but the overall experience was terrible. Best Peking duck I've had, better than in Peking. Try the sambal shrimp, cod with bok choy and orange and pad Thai to die for. Sushi and sashimi are fresh and delicious. A) Inedible food. B) They refused to return a left-behind credit card. I've been here twice now, with local folks--who should have known better. The first time, the four of us had food that was merely semi-bad. The second time the four of us went--for no understandable reason--most of the food was inedible--nothing but a bland, tasteless sludge of thickener. It literally had to be discarded. But far more important, one of us left her credit card behind. After we contacted Matsulin, they promised not only to return it, but to FedEx it. Nice, and thanks! Two days later, I personally contacted Matsulin again. They said re that "nice" manager: "Oh, she didn't do it. It's in her purse maybe. She has other things to do, so maybe in two days?" It was a complete deadpan "who cares?" This is really bad/expensive/fake food, but I thought you should know: The folks at Matsulin really do not give a damn about you as a customer. In other words, I had inedible food (which cost for the four of us, with tip, for lunch: $167), and then had to help my friend confirm that the woman "who has other things to do" didn't in fact include among those "other things" the fraudulent use of a Sapphire Card with a $40,000 credit limit. read more

This is one of my favorite Asian restaurants in the Hamptons. They have a grand variety of Asian dishes from different countries. My family and I ordered dishes from Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and China in one single order including appetizers, main course and dessert. The ambiance is very cozy and welcoming. Had dinner here on a Friday night on recommendation from a friend. We were highly impressed with the choices on the menu. Staff was knowledgeable and attentive to your needs. We tried this spot for the first time the other night and couldn't wait. We were seated right away in a table for two in-between another table for two and a large party of 8. It's a small space, so we didn't mind being crammed in between two parties, but there were other tables open that would have been more comfortable. Our server took the drink order and came back right away with our drinks. Unfortunately, the parties on either side of us were in the middle of agreements and made the dining experience uncomfortable. The party to the right were fighting with each other and the party to the left were angry because only 1/2 the table received their dinners while the other 1/2 were still waiting over 10 minutes for their entrees. So 1/2 the table needed to start eating because the food was getting cold and the other 1/2 were waiting. That's not a good experience when you are trying to have a meal together as a group. After 20 minutes of waiting for our orders to be taken, we walked out. No one ever came to take our appetizer or entree order. There was one server talking with a party in the corner and another server refilling water glasses the entire time we waited. We paid for our diet coke and left. What a disappointment in service and atmosphere. We really wanted to enjoy this spot because it is close to home and the menu looked great. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch on Monday. Place was empty, which is not a bad thing considering the time we were there. We got fast and prompt service! They have an impressive menu which spans pretty much the entire asian coast. Food was good/great. I tried the house special fried rice and some of their rolls. Rolls were delicious, but not inventive. The nori was different from any place i've had on Long Island. So much flavor! This alone made me want to go back. the shari is good but on the small side, the fish was meaty and fresh, great texture. The portions are on the small side for the price, but it's the "hamptons" so i guess it's par for the area. They don't use fresh/real wasabi, which is standard for USA... Fried rice was light and flaky just how i like it, but still a bit oily to be considered perfect. the scallops were a nice touch. The chinese sausage didn't sing in my mouth though, so minus 1 star for that and the oilyness. read more

We have passed this place by a number of times on our trips to Hampton Bays and I am glad we finally decided to try it. They offer a really nice decor and a friendly (if not always fluent) waitstaff. The menu offers a wide variety of Asian options, including Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese. We tried the lemongrass soup, which was well spiced. The Spicy Tuna Roll entree, the rolls were small but plentiful. And the Chicken Pad-Thai, which was very tasty, I actually enjoyed it more than the local version we normally get. They also offer a nice choose of Asian beers as well. While it might be closer to a 3 in Queens, overall Matsulin offers really nice Asian meal and a great change of pace from other local spots. read more
