We can't find any decent Chinese food near us. This was half way between where we shop and home so decided to do take out on the way back. Very good and we do wish it was closer! The food was good. Better than a lot of the local Chinese food places in the area. I was a little put off by the wait time. I was told 25 minutes when I went in. I know that's not bad wait time, but I'm used to the 15 minutes I usually get at other places I guess. I ordered the mei fun. It was good. One thing I didn't like was that they used the pork strips from the boneless spare ribs as the pork part. It didn't have that red sauce that boneless spare ribs have but I could still taste the flavor which altered how much I liked the dish. I will go back, but I will order something else and expect a longer wait time next time. read more

Ordered here for the first time last night. Was very good. We ordered General Tso's chicken, vegetable fried rice, vegetable egg foo yung, and some egg rolls. Everything was tasty and fresh. We've always said that you should never mess with your Chinese order. Find a place you like, find the dishes you like. Order them every time and you'll never be disappointed. Deviate on the location or order and your bound for problems. So for us we were a bit skeptical going into things. I easily ordered over the phone on a Friday night and was told 30 minutes. This was much shorter than expected but I figured maybe they weren't that busy since they were new and arrived exactly in 30 minutes. The restaurant was bright, clean and spacious, but almost a little too large and sparsely decorated. No big deal as they are brand new and eventually will settle in. There were a few people in the restaurant waiting but I was able to go right to the counter and pay, but told that my food wasn't ready yet so I sat in one of the booths and waited. Unfortunately I ended up waiting about 35 minutes (so over an hour total). As I waited a number of other people came in, waited and got their food. I get it they are still getting used to things and have no problem waiting an hour on a Friday night, just wish they'd told me it would take 45 min to an hour. Got the food home and was excited to unpack it all. We got three dinner combination platters (including egg rolls), all solid. The crab rangoons were much better than our normal place, the fried pork dumplings not as good. We liked that they had the Thai options so hot chicken pad thai instead of our usual lo mein which was a nice change of pace. Everything had a very light taste to it - not heavy or greasy at all which was awesome. Overall I can't say we won't ever go to our normal place, but I could definitely see us needing to have a discussion as to where to order from in the future. Good luck Fortune House! read more

I love this place for a quick take out meal for a busier night! Their food is amazing and so flavorful and cooked fresh to order. It is family owned and operated and there is always the same women working the front register every time I go in. I wish I knew her name because she is the politest women! Their menu has plenty of different options to choose from but my go to is the dinner special with pork fried rice and chicken lo mein! It comes with an egg roll as well. Their portions are generous so I have enough for lunch the next day - tastes just as fresh and delicious! Definently recommend. read more

I am providing an update to a previous review of Fortune House. Fortune House used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant - sadly, not anymore. Yesterday I ordered $70 worth of food and waited 30 minutes in a restaurant that had only two customers. Ordered all of our favorites from a glum, unsmiling man who seemed to be one of only 2 employees present. The food used to be outstanding... now, not. The House Special Lo Mein was dressed with a bland brown sauce that appears to be made from bouillon and corn starch and they use this sauce on literally EVERYTHING. It tastes horrible. For $12, I expected better. The wontons in sesame sauce - same thing. Flavorless, gloppy brown sauce covering wontons that had a very strange-tasting meat filling. Ate one and threw the rest in the garbage - NEVER AGAIN. The only redeeming dish was an order of Chicken Fingers. We are done with Fortune House. They have given up, and just don't care about flavor, seasonings or food quality. They have gone the way of so many Chinese restaurants before them, prioritizing profits over quality. And to think I used to defend this place. Fortune House makes bad food and treats customers as though they are being done a favor. We won't be back. read more

This is basically average take out Chinese food. The ribs seemed a little more tender than average Chinese, however not sure I liked them better. Chicken fingers very oily, fried wontons pretty good, pork fried rice average at best and chicken with broccoli was ok, egg rolls average average at best. We really wanted to like this place better, but it is just ok. read more

We have ordered from them twice because the reviews seemed positive. However, our experience has been bad both times. First time, they made a mistake with our order. Charged us for the shrimp with vegetables we ordered but gave us chicken! The food was very late- had to wait over 15 minutes past the time they said it would be ready. Some of the food we received was COLD. Then the last time- had to wait again. Over 25 minutes late!! Would have left but paid when we arrived. So had to wait. Their service is awful. They give you a time for pick up but never honor it and the food is mediocre at best. We will never go back! read more

I'll start by saying Chinese food is like pizza-you like what you grew up on. I divide Chinese food into two categories-walk -in quickie and sit-down full service. I don't expect the same quality in a walk-in place, and I expect to pay less for walk-in. I didn't grow up having walk in Chinese food, so I feel my slate is clean when reviewing them. I was excited to try this new place and waited for it to open. I was disappointed that they did not announce their opening, or send flyers to local residents, or join the local business chamber, or have any social media presence whatsoever, so they were open a couple of weeks before I realized it. I ordered chicken wings, lo mein, and mei fun. The chicken wings were whole, with traditionally seasoned fry batter although we didn't think they were brined first like many other Chinese wings I've had. The other dishes were 'blond'-no distinct sauce or additive to the noodle base and not enough natural seasoning from the stir fry pre-cook to coat the noodles, and not so much cooked or stir fried as they were pre-cooked and warmed up in the wok. We wound up doctoring both dishes with soy and some other Asian stand-bys from our robust vinegar/oil pantry, or otherwise they would have ended up in the trash. The meat in each were cooked appropriately. At best, I'd refer to this food as Cheap Chinese, but it wasn't a bargain (I wouldn't call it expensive either, but overpriced for what it was). The service at the counter by the young man was lackluster, but sadly I expect very little in this category, so as long as you give me my order and don't steal my credit card. I'm sure this place is fine for hungry teens and college kids, but I'll go back to Newtown and Danbury for better walk-in Chinese food. Best wishes to this new business. THE BEST CHINESE FOOD IN THE VALLEY!! I cannot recommend this place enough! The restaurant is extremely clean, they are very friendly and kind, they are so quick, and their prices are extremely reasonable. And the best part...the taste!!! The most delicious chinese food I've had in a long time. Ordered from them by chance in 2020 and my family and I have been loyal customers since because they are THAT GOOD! And you don't feel like crap after eating it! The food is not heavy at all and I don't wake up feeling swollen the next day. If you're looking for chinese food, this place is the place to go. Very happy to have this restaurant right down the road. The owners and staff are so accommodating with any requests and have gone above and beyond to meet a family members special dietary needs. We always have good meals from here, though, occasionally we have had what seems like undercooked wontons in our wonton soup (theirs isn't our favorite) but still good enough to eat. I am sure there are some wrinkles to iron out as they have just opened recently but I can't wait to keep trying them. Also, most of their Chinese food contains MSG which is disappointing. read more
