Our party of six had a really nice time at Matsulin. One of our buddies had been going there for years. Vivian and the rest of the staff couldn't be nicer. I was I impressed by how many diners got a hug from the staff as they were leaving. The dining room is comfy and well appointed. I have a bias against Asian fusion restaurants. It's rare when the food is good across all cuisines. I'm happy to report that this isn't the case here. The Chinese dishes were my favorite. The beef chow fun, tea duck and fried rice were excellent. The gyozai were very good. The vegetarian and Thai dishes were solid. We split an order of fried bananas with ice cream for dessert. We lingered for well over two hours without any issue. This is the best Asian food in the area by far. The staff are lovely and welcoming. Add a star if you can't get into NYC for Asian food. read more

Tonight I enjoyed the spinach/tofu soup, the mee gorin with the perfect medium/normal spice level, the pad thai/tofu, and the agedashi tofu. Yes, I am obviously into heart-healthful cuisine, and you can't go wrong dining smartly for your longevity HERE. The food is absolutely delicious and the menu is huge. So hard to choose just 4!!! Terrific restaurant! The food was great. The sushi was among the best we've had. Pad Thai tasted fresh and had a flavor that popped. The sizzling tofu was different and surprisingly good. The sake list is unusual and interesting. Service was slow, but to be fair they were really being slammed and we liked the staff. Very pleasant atmosphere. It wasn't clear from the web how to make a reservation online, but they do seem to take them and in the future I will call for one. read more

The food here is spectacular. We've been here twice recently and both times we ordered their wonderful shrimp shumai and haru salmon. The shumai is made with fresh diced shrimp and comes out super hot, dumpling perfectly steamed, in a steamer basket. The salmon is the most delicious sushi I've ever had - soft like butter, spicy on top, a delish melange of flavor. Their miso soup is something special. All just wonderful. Great place for Christmas dinner and the food is always delicious. Staff are always attentive and friendly.

While the Royal Sushi Platter was quite delicious, I am really writing this review to commend this establishment on its customer service. My dad inadvertently ordered the wrong entre and the waiter immediately said no problem - and allowed him to re-order. This is probably not always the case at other restaurants do kudos to Matsulin! The food was very good though and reasonably priced. Parking is easy too in their back lot. read more

Matsulin's food quality had declined. We've been going for years and were very disappointed by our meal this Saturday. The Nasi Goring was a salty mess overpowered by the soggy ham. The salmon, skin roll and unagi rolls were virtually indistinguishable. The Unagi was rubbery, and the salmon skin both were flavorless. The Pad Thai was gummy and bland. On top of all this our table of four ordered spring rolls and the server didn't tell us it only an order comes with three pieces -- they could have easily sold as a fourth that they informed us when we ordered. Please bring back the Mastulin we loved. read more

The pictures says it all. This place is like ice cream. I can't get enough of it and I'm hooked on the food. I usually go with a group of 6 people so I can order a a variety. The fried calamari, special sushi rolls, duck, pad Thai, pineapple chicken etc too much to list are all out of this world. Vivian is super friendly and nails it with her suggestions every time. If ur lucky, sometimes u'll catch a glimpse of a celebrity there. I would give them 10 stars if I could. read more

Caring service and great food. Sushi is excellent, but the Chinese food is superb. A great variety, and the Peking Duck cannot be beaten.as good as anywhere, and served three ways. I think it is the only really good Chinese food on the entire East end. read more

A wonderful discovery. This solid stone attractive building used to be my bank decades ago. When we entered we where immediately greeted by a friendly grateous staff. The inside is quite classic with the room devided by wood and glass walls. So different than most places today, it is fully staffed with attentive waits people. One just for replenishing ice water. During the meal the owner stopped by a couple of times to chat. Having that interaction adds to the quality of the meal. We had several appetizers, wonton soup, hot and sour, shrimp and vegetable tempura, roast dumplings. Then Shrimp Pad Thai and a similar Hong Kong styled dish. What a great find! Top notch Asian food with an amazingly eclectic offering: Sushi, Chinese, Thai and a touch of Malaysian. They do justice to all these cuisines! Pretty incredible. The dining room is clean, bright and comfortable and the staff is very friendly. The owner is very involved and greats each table personally. The sushi is very good. However curry is the star! I've traveled extensively all over Asia and the curry and Thai food here is on par with anything I've had in Singapore. I'm a fan and will be a regular here. The fact it's located across the street from the movie theater is a huge plus for date night! read more

First time at Matsulin. Service was efficient and friendly even though they were extremely busy with every table filled and tons of takeout orders. The food was delicious and fresh. My biggest complaint is that the fried wontons were basically not filled with anything, it was like eating a fried wonton wrapper. Very disappointing since the menu description had many ingredients listed as a filling. I also had a spicy tuna hand roll which was mostly crunchies, very little tuna. Our entrees were spot-on though. I understand that food costs have gone up, but at the prices they charge I would think that these items would be covered. read more

We shared 4 appetizers, salad and sake. $85 with tip. We were early, so service was speedy, but well timed, friendly and personal. The sushi tuna carpaccio, as the other dishes, was elegantly presented and absolutely delicious, equal to any restaurant where it would have been $10 more. Best we've ever had. Example, between two layers of formed lightly seasoned tuna and avocado was a slice of avocado that was cut as a flower, even though you couldn't see it, topped with healthy layer of black nutty flying fish caviar. The duck, spinach and mandarin salad was also first rate. We had two delicious generous summer rolls also with duck, not a usual offering. The 4 sticks of Sate were excellent, the dipping sauce was less peanutty than I've had or made, as it was roughly ground peanuts that added a nice texture. The chicken was also notable for the glaze. We finished with salt & pepper calamari in puffy rice rice crisp crust. It I dreamed up a mild complaint, the calamari was a little skimpy, perhaps two sizes. To the person had their car towed ... we were told we were welcome to park for the movie, live at the Met ... 3 plus hours. For those who complained about the speed of service, our waitress said that if you give your whole order at the start, the kitchen stages the meal. 9/6/22 our first dinner at Matsulin post Covid. We've been wanting to come here for a long time and we could not have been greeted more warmly. It was so nice to see Vivian again! We were celebrating a dear friends birthday and we decided to share many of the delightful things offered on the menu. We started with a Takayama roll and an order of crispy calamari. That was a wonderful way to begin. For the entrée course we chose walnut shrimp, ginger tea duck, Meso orange codfish and pad Thai shrimp and chicken noodle. The food was abundant and beautifully prepared. Wonderfully fresh and flavorful. When we thought we could not eat another bite Vivian presented us with a lovely birthday dessert with a candle in a mound of vanilla ice cream surrounded by tempura fried bananas! The contrast of the warm and crispy bananas and the cool creamy ice cream was a wonderful treat. We were so happy that we chose Matsulin for our dear friends birthday. We have tried to be fans of Matsulin for many years. We decided to give them another chance after a HORRIBLE experience some years ago. Unfortunately, not a great experience. The staff is a hectic mess. It looks like two servers for the whole place, who are also clearing tables. Two others who seat people and pour water and not much else. We waited over 20 minutes for a server to take our order. The place was doing busy takeout but the room was only half full of tables. Appetizers came out fairly quick with no fanfare or conversation. Plates were hurriedly drop and the server left. Gyoza were bland. Papaya salad was spicy...no other flavor. Cold noodles were pretty good. Emperess Dumplings were ok, served in a basic scallion broth, not very hot. Then the long wait for the entrees. As the take out bags we're flying out of the kitchen, there was hardly any food coming to the tables in the restaurant. More and more people were being seated and hardly anyone had any food. A full hour after we orders the entrees arrived, somehow not hot. King Rama beef was fine. The chicken and shrimp dish served in a taro basket was bleh. The basket was stale and inedible. The shrimp came with tail on (but we only had forks to eat with) and the sauce was very thick and goopy. This will be the last time we visit Matsulin. Looks like the take out crowd is getting the attention these days. The restaurant experience is tired, service is non-existent, and the food is below average. read more

A step up for a nice Asian dining experience on the east end. Super attentive servers and host, in tune with diners, making perfect recommendations. Well prepared cuisine. They completed the lettuce wraps at the table with finely chopped / diced vegs. Wonton soup was delicately made and flavored. A super pleasant stop if wanting a relaxing lunch or dinner. We're so pleasantly surprised by the flavor, service and quality that we had to leave a review! We are in town from Manhattan for the weekend and living in the city I feel like we've been lucky to have a ton of great Thai and Chinese places around us. Matsulin was easily better than most. Seriously a huge hidden gem in Hampton Bays! I'm always super leary about places that try to do too many different cuisines under one roof but these guys have it down pat! Decor is beautiful and the wait staff very friendly. Unobtrusive service and my water glass was always filled without being asked. Their massamum curry had a nice kick and deeply spiced flavor. The Peking duck was presented beautifully table side and was quite filling for 2 people. Not only do you get the duck meat wrapped in their housemade crepes, Scallion salad and hoisin sauce to munch on, but they also take the rest of the leftover duck meat and make a delicious stir fry that they bring out as a next course. Definitely get your money's worth with that dish. Their seafood red curry had just the right amount of spice with an abundant array of seafood and fresh veggies in the dish. The fried shrimp with creamy honey and candied walnuts sauce was also beautifully executed and delicious. Will definitely be back when I'm back in town again! read more
