Axel responded to my Yelp request for estimate promptly, and Andy came to my house the next morning for walk-through. I was initially going to go with a different company that had an established reputation locally, but a call from Alex convinced me to give this newer business a chance. I have friends that have had to launch their businesses before, so I respect how hard people have to work to earn new business. I respect the conversation that Alex had with me to ask for the job, when so many others simply leave an estimate and walk away. It showed integrity and desire. That said, we just finished having almost our whole house repainted. It wasn't something we WANTED to do, but HAD to do because of a slab leak. Due to that slab leak, we had about 40 patched up drywall holes all around the house from the whole-house repipe. I thought I might want to tackle on my own, then I realized I didn't that kind of time since we were hosting Thanksgiving for 25 people in 1.5 weeks! The Matra crew spent half a day covering up our floors and helping to move and cover heavy furniture before they could even start painting. We have a 30-foot-high vaulted ceiling, so they were going to be spraying a LOT. Not a drop of white ceiling paint was to be found where we didn't want it. The 2nd day involved painting the walls of most of the house, so we could move all of the things into the newly-painted rooms and allow the crew to start painting the other side of the house. The 3rd day was devoted to finishing up. Hard to believe this crew painted about 2000sf of house in 3 days (we had 3 bedrooms that didn't need any paint in our 3000sf home). Nobody is perfect, so after we put everything back in its rightful place, we found a few things that needed some touch up. Surprisingly, Andy was back to my house within an hour (the crazy winds had delayed a local exterior paint job, so he was able to stop by real quick), and had everything touched up in 20 minutes. On top of all that, Matra provided a very explicit and professional contract. It came to my surprise that they went above and beyond what was stated in their contract! They showed some real pride in their work to fix some drywall damage (from an old roof leak) and also painted my baseboards to really make the newly-painted walls pop. Wow. At the end of the day, my decision to choose Matra proved to be a great one. Their pricing was more than competitive with the 5 other companies that quoted. They were able to start (and finish!) before anyone else could commit, and most importantly, my wife and I were so happy with how everything turned out. We had a fantastic experience having Matra Painting/Roofing paint both the interior and the exterior of our single family rental house in Orange, Ca. They also installed a new roof , including replacing all the water damaged wood sheathing and supports. They were able to start removing the old roofing the very next day. The interior painting was started and completed the following day. After waiting a few days for permitting to go through, they completed the roofing in the next two days. As soon as all the roofing was done the exterior prep and painting was complete in another two days. Axel and Leo were terrific from the very start. Providing us with a quick and informative estimate on all three phases of our project. We were able pick our new roofing material and interior paint color that day, provide deposits and head back to the Bay Area with confidence that our job was in great hands. How shall I start this review. My experience with Matra Painting was not a pleasant one. They quoted me a 2 week time frame and it took them almost 4, which was not surprising when their workers showed up around 8-830 every day and then broke for lunch for 2 hours at 11 and then quit at 330. Hard to get the job done in the estimated time when you were only working 5-6 hours a day. Aside from them destroying the rug in my living room (which yes he paid to replace) and damaging other items in my house some of which he fixed and some of which he did not and some of which he tried to fix but you can still tell were damaged just less noticable when first looking but still noticable. He also complained about having to pay for a cleaner to clean up the dust that was created by his worker who did not seal off the room he was sanding (even though he was instructed to by Axel himself) and so the dust went literally throughout my entire house and into every single drawer and cabinet in my kitchen and bathrooms. It was a total disaster that never needed to have happened in the first place. The 2 cleaning people were in my house (which is under 1400sq feet) for 15 hours and he thought that the $900 they charged me was outrageous. The dust was 2 inches thick in places. Everything in every cabinet had to be cleaned and all cabinets had to be wiped out and this was all his workers fault! There were many items that needed to be touched up and cleaned up as well as a major crack in my ceiling (about 1-2 feet long) that he promised to come back and fix. He said he would be back out and on the day he was supposed to come out he texted me wasn't feeling well. A few days later when I texted him he told me he had COVID. I waited a week and then texted him again to see if he was recovered and when would he be back to take care of these items. Silence. No response. I waited another few days and texted him again. Again, radio silence. Quite frankly I think the biggest problem was that he went on vacation at the start of the project and left his foreman Leo in charge who was never around to supervise. He showed up a couple of times for about 5 min each time (just basically to use my bathroom) and then left. However, that said he is the owner of the company and he should have stood by the work and not blown me off and should have come back and fixed all of the touch ups, especially that 1-2 foot crack in the ceiling that I will now have to pay someone else to fix as well as all of the other areas that need touching up.
