Matchstick has some of the best pastries in town. I love their pain au chocolat, almond croissant, chocolate cookies and more... They also have some nice Too good to go bags. It's really my place to go for breakfast. I live next door so I can just have fresh patries every morning. I also love their matcha latte, I just wish they would do iced ones.

Ordered brew coffee as it is my to-go option. The coffee is just alright, standard level. It has a no acidic taste, which I like. It is not bold or overly bitter. To be honest, the coffee didn't surprise or amaze me. My dad tried the almond croissant, and it was average quality. The staffs were friendly and chilled. There's quite a line and busy, but the employees were still very welcoming and didn't rush to get the orders done (the employees' pace remained constant). The coffee shop has a nice interior design, but it is hard to find a table or a quiet spot to talk and enjoy the order because of the long waiting lines and crowds. Overall, the shop offers a standard level coffee and food. You can stop by if you are in the area.

Matchstick manages to maintain high quality across all Vancouver locations.  The atmosphere was clean and modern.  I like the place's natural lighting and the wood furniture's stylish warmth. I got a Masala Chai Latte.  The drinks only serve one size cup here, and it seems a bit small, but everything is worth it.  It tasted amazing, and the latte art was beautiful.  Also, they don't charge for substituting oat milk for dairy. Drink & Food: 4/5 Should Try! Service: ‍‍‍‍‍5/5 Kids: 3/5 Price: $5.99 Surprise Bag ($18.00 value; I received four different favour croissants) Presentation: 2/5 Parking: Paid street parking Tips: * has vegan and gluten-free pastries. * has indoor and outdoor seating. Would I Return: Yes ‍

It's fine. The salmon toast was underwhelming (most places serve salmon toast with avocado, but this place doesn't and charges $18 for it). The mushroom toast was better. Service was unfriendly but coffee was decent.

This place has grown on me over the past few visits. The interior is decked out in a color palette of Instagram-approved dusty rose and teal, with a mix of community tables and individual seats. On my first trip I ordered a chai with their house made oat milk, which was adequate, but for $5+ didn't match the spicy creaminess of my favorite chai in the city (from Rocanini on Beatty Street). However the food that I sampled was quite good--a beautiful cardamom cinnamon bun that could've been straight out of Stockholm, a delicious tomato soup that managed to be both vegan and not overly acidic, and a fresh hummus and carrot combo. Counter staff seemed to vary in terms of chattiness and warmth, but in general made the ordering experience efficient, and demonstrated their knowledge of the menu. I would choose Matchstick any day over some of its more corporate international competitors that seem to bloom on every street corner...

I've been here a couple of times now since they opened, in different contexts - sometimes to sit down, sometimes just to grab something to go; sometimes getting something sweet, other times something savoury. Much as I was excited to see a new coffee shop open up near where I live, I have to say that Matchstick feels just okay. Nothing stands out - the drinks (from chai lattes to mochas to london fogs and more) are all okay, avoiding the pitfalls of excessive sugar but also not having much flavour to them. They don't do multiple sizes but the cup sizes are small, which I appreciate, though they're priced more like large drinks at other shops. The baked goods are fine, nothing memorable. Everything is a little bit pricier than I'd like to pay for the taste, though - I'd rather go somewhere cheaper and simpler, or somewhere fancy where the quality really matches the pricetag. The physical environment itself is also not great for staying, unless you're in a group. It's dominated by communal tables, which makes for fairly uncomfortable seating if you're looking to sit down with somebody one-on-one, or if you're looking to do some work or studying on your own. And there aren't many outlets, or if there are they aren't very visible. The decor is all very nice, though, you have to give them that. And so far most of the staff have been very friendly and nice. But in terms of the food, drinks, and the experience of sitting there, I feel like I gave it a fair shot, and I'm not tempted to go back when there are other coffee shops just down the block.

Excited to see a new coffee shop opening in the west end!! I'm always looking for a a bit of a stroll with a caffeine destination on my lunch break and I'm pleased that matchstick is here for me. I've definitely had their coffee from other cafes that serve it and I've been to their other locations. I'd say that their staff was quite knowledgeable and experienced on my first visit. The space is bright and quiet. Right on the first level of a new residential building in the west end. I was excited to see earl grey muffins in their selections of pastries! Definitely a pick me up treat that we all need in our lives! And they don't use muffin cups There's a selection of lunch items and loaves of bread in addition to their beverage offerings. Will be back

The aesthetics of the store is great! Lovely brand logo too! The coffee is okay. I'm not a fan of coffee with the sour after taste, however the beans used were quite rich in scent and flavour.

Jam Cafe, Vancouver Jam Cafe is my favorite brunch spot. Anywhere. That sounds like an exaggeration. It isn't. I've been traveling to Vancouver for work for almost a decade, and every single trip includes a stop at Jam. If I'm lucky, two. I've also become that coworker who convinces everyone to meet outside at 7:45 in the morning so we can be part of the first seating at 8:00. Thankfully, we're all from the East Coast and have been awake since 5:00 anyway. Over the years I've successfully JAMfluenced more business travelers than I'd like to admit. And yes, it's still worth the wait even if you're not first in line. The restaurant itself is tiny. Cozy farmhouse vibes, mismatched decorations covering the walls, and maybe 15 tables between the dining room and patio. It feels more like someone's favorite neighborhood breakfast spot than one of Vancouver's brunch institutions. The menu is comfort food turned up to eleven. Everything is indulgent, creative, and somehow still balanced. You can tell the kitchen starts with great ingredients because every component tastes like it could stand on its own. I try to branch out every visit... and then usually end up ordering the Tater Tot Bowl anyway. Crispy tater tots, buffalo sauce, Mexican street corn relish, and ridiculously good pulled pork. It's the kind of dish that sounds like it shouldn't work, but every bite somehow gets better than the last. And then there are the cinnamon roll pancakes. They are enormous. They're also one of the best brunch dishes I've ever eaten. Birdfluencer Lorraine M. declared them the best pancakes she's ever had, and after several visits, I don't have much of an argument. Service is exactly what it needs to be. Friendly, efficient, and quick. The staff knows there's a line forming outside before the doors even open, but you never feel rushed. Overall, Jam Cafe has officially become part of my Vancouver tradition. At this point, a work trip to the city doesn't really start until I've had breakfast here. If you're visiting Vancouver and only have time for one brunch, this would be my pick without a second thought.

I chose to sit outside on the patio instead of inside at the bar to take in that Canadian Vitamin D! It was sunny and hot, but the patio had a great view and was perfect for people-watching. My server, Dursh (or something close to that), was really cool. He asked my name, made me feel welcomed, and gave solid recommendations. He even picked my drink for me, which I ended up enjoying. He suggested a Benedict dish, but I'm not a fan of runny eggs. I had already decided on the El Camino poutine and plot twist....it also came with two runny poached eggs. Even so, it was still delicious, mainly because the yolk texture wasn't an issue with the crema on the dish. That poutine was an easy 9/10. It came loaded with cheese curds, pork carnitas that weren't dry at all, bacon, pinto beans, roasted pineapple for a little sweetness, salsa, jalapeños, pickled onions, salsa verde, cilantro crema, and spinach. The herb potatoes were seasoned so well too. All in all, a great last meal in Vancouver from the food to the service (even beyond Dursh, everyone was helpful) to the patio vibe. Great spot.

We were having gorgeous weather in Vancouver so we decided to eat on the covered patio. The place is pretty cozy, but was only moderately busy when we went. They have a pretty good menu with lots a Benedict's and a build your own breakfast option that seemed pretty nice. I took the recommendation from our server and got the bacon benny. It did not disappoint. I think I have recently discovered that I love poached eggs and these were perfect. The yolk was nice and runny and the white was firm but not hard. I like to cut in to my egg and have it run down and get messy on the plate. The hollandaise was excellent. So many breakfast places will serve it broken, but not here. It had the perfect amount of lemon, butter ratio for my taste and I really enjoyed it. The bacon was good, not to salty, and the english muffin was, well, an English muffin from a package that they toasted and out on the plate. I did splurge and paid the extra dollar for the truffle potatoes and they were very good. I love truffle oil on potatoes so I am a sucker for it whenever its on a menu. You just cant mess it up. Fried potatoes, truffle oil, and a lemon squeeze to bring it all together. My wife got the brunch burger and she loved it. It was a messy breakfast burger that a lot of places have but this one was done right. A poached oozy egg, on a burger patty with american cheese, the best burger cheese in my opinion, bacon, hollandaise and arugula on a brioche bun! It came with tater tots and they were nice and crispy just like she likes them. Well, why didn't I give it five stars you may be asking? Great question. Here it is, each plate came with a side that was just awful. Mine had some "fresh" fruit that nearly made me laugh. It consisted of the saddest, limpest piece of watermelon I have ever seen this side of a trash can. I also had an old crusty orange wedge and a single grape. My wife got a slimy side salad that I think was holding on for dear life. Both, we deemed inedible and moved on immediately. I think there is a rule, or at least there should be one, in restaurants that if you wouldn't eat it then don't serve it. There might be another one that says if you eat rotten food maybe get a different job and see rule one. Overall, we liked the place and would go back. But first, the food - I ordered scrambled eggs, chicken apple sausage and paid an extra $1 for truffled lemon potatoes. The verdict? 4 out of 5. I'd ordered the eggs "very soft" and they verged on medium-firm. They still tasted good. I'll gladly pay extra for the truffled potatoes next time. My husband ordered the salmon avocado benny. While he loved the tomato soup he chose on the side, he was less enamoured by the benny itself. I had a taste and was underwhelmed by a forkful of overripe avocado and slightly fishy-tasting salmon. We finished with an order of beignets which despite being freshly-fried, were bland; although the accompanying strawberry sauce was deliciously tangy-sweet. Onto the service. This place spins like a top, and I mean that in a good way. Although we came at a peak time, all front of the house staff we encountered -- from the hostess to our bubbly server, to the smooth manager -- struck a perfect balance of being in flow, working flawlessly together, and maintaining light conversation with us. Exemplary. 5 stars out of 5.
