The drinks are overpriced and the portion smaller than the other restaurants in the plaza. I was bringing our employees downstairs for drinks, until I noticed (and they complained) that the drinks are smaller (example: glass of wine was reduced to 5 oz). It's one of the most expensive restaurant without a good reason. For example, half a really thin chicken breast sandwich is $18. That's hardly enough for anybody to feel full. An order of steak was $38. It was about half an inch thick. But I think they do is they split 1 in steak in half, and sell that for $38. So the margin is much higher. That is hardly enough for one person. I don't mind paying for descent and enough food and I have paid more for great service and good portions, but this is outrageous. Cutting corners in order to increase profit. To me, this seems like cutting corners to increase profit and this will catch up with the restaurant at some point. Food was great but service was subpar. I loved their chicken sandwich (do yourself a solid & get it Nashville hot) and do not, I repeat do not skip the donuts! Hint: you get a free order when you check in ;) I'm not sure if overall service is bad or maybe our server was just having an off day. Nevertheless, it made for an unpleasant brunch experience. We were sat on a crumb-filled table, granted it looked like it had been wiped but with a dirty towel. When we'd flagged our server down to get his attention, he did not walk towards our table rather he yelled across the room that prompted a back-forth yelling match lol. I'd understand if the restaurant was busy but nope, there were empty tables all around us. Guess he couldn't be bothered to take a couple extra steps to communicate with us. Not only was our server inattentive, he also forgot to bring our drinks that we'd waited on for so long that we decided to serve ourselves & grab the drinks from the bar instead. They have a lot of kinks to work out. I know they just opened and I would love to be optimistic but the entire experience was bad from the hostess to the management. It was not crowded and looked abundantly staffed however it still took 15 minutes to even be acknowledged (party of 2) btw. Finally ordered a sangria and after waiting even longer, was informed they didn't have the ingredients. Ordered a cinnamon roll as an app, never received it. We were there a total of 42 minutes and only received a water and an Arnold Palmer. Needless to say, we were happy to leave and visit next door. Incredible disappointing for a brunch date. read more

I was excited to see a new place open in Reston Station. The outdoor bar is cool and could be a good setting for happy hours. Our group went during opening week and ordered a couple drinks and pizzas. The pizza was decent though on the thinner side. Like other people mentioned, some of the servers seem new to being servers (I ordered a vodka water and the waiter had no idea what I was talking about). I have been to every restaurant in the RTC complex (Reston town Center, Plaza America and Reston station) IMHO THE BEST mixologist in the RTC complex is found at the Matchbox at the Reston Station. "Lexi" understands the importance of balance and subtlety when mixing ingredients for a cocktail. She takes her profession seriously and in fact studied bartending while she was in college. She is efficient and friendly. Next time you are at the Matchbox in Reston Station ask her for her guava Mojito. You will thank me. read more

I've been to Matchbox in both former DC locations as well as Rockville. The Reston location doesn't even come close. Parking is horrible- most of the other restaurants have clear signs about where to go, Matchbox has none I could find. I had ordered for pickup and got there a couple minutes earlier than the order said. The hostess ignored me until I finally spoke up. They then brought out the pizzas, which were already lukewarm to cold. The pizzas were mediocre at best. The fire and smoke pizza is one of my favorites usual. It had the same spice level I expected, but none of the flavor. It was just bland but spicy. I had also ordered another pizza with half sausage, and instead got sausage on the whole thing. It was also lousy. The only good part if the meal was the free donuts. We won't be coming back. There are much better pizza places close by and the other Matchbox locations are much better. read more

Excellent service and attentive staff. You can tell a lot of care and consideration went into their training program. The food was great and as a vegetarian I appreciate the options on the menu, and also our server's (Liz) awareness of cross contamination in the kitchen... So foods I should start away from. I'm sure all servers are wonderful, but if I were you, I'd ask for Liz or Kyle. I had a couple of interactions with Jason, the manager and he was very helpful. I highly recommend this Matchbox. Food & drink were very good. We liked the openness of the bar with all the windows. We like the fact that they have an outdoor bar. The wait staff were friendly & efficient. The decibel level in the bar was high, though. More signage would bring more patrons coming off of the Metro. It was a little tricky to locate initially coming from the direction of the Metro. Came here on a quiet Sunday. The first person in our party to arrive said that the hostess was a little sassy about our lack of reservation when the ENTIRE restaurant was empty. We were literally the only table seated. We came for a late brunch, but they were out of champagne so they didn't offer bottomless mimosas or any kind of discounted alternative. We ended up getting vodka sodas which came out to $17 each.... Which was actually as much as the pizza I ordered. Oof. I originally inquired if GF buns were an option, but the server didn't know and didn't care to ask anyone, so I got the cauliflower crust pizza, which appears to be their only GF option unless you lettuce wrap a burger--which I personally hate doing. Another Member of our party ordered an item on the menu, then was later told it was out of stock. The server didn't bother bringing a menu back with him, took another 10 minutes to get her one, leading her food to arrive significantly later than the rest of the party. Overall, the experience was very underwhelming and rather expensive for what it was. Reston has so many other great eateries, I recommend skipping this place and trying somewhere else. read more

Honestly only giving this place 3 stars coz the pesto chicken pizza was actually good. I got the chicken sandwich Nashville hot and it was very subpar. My issue was the service here. For a Saturday night, it was pretty dead. We had several servers walk by us and ignore us after looking at our table. We were seated for 15, close to 20 minutes before someone took our order. The table we were seated at was not cleaned, there was a water spill on the floor and the seat had a dirty tissue on it. I would order takeout maybe, but wouldn't come back here. read more

Wow! Probably the worst Matchbox experience. 1. Place was empty and everything was slow. 2. We asked for bloody Mary's. The bartender couldn't make them due to missing ingredients. Lol! Really - it serves brunch every day - Bloody Marys are a staple with brunch. 3. Asked for the soup choices - only chicken tortilla. How come my friend's chicken tortilla soup order came out with minestrone? He ate it as we were all rushed to get on the metro. 4. One pizza order was incorrect too. The server offered to fix all of this, but it could have delayed us even more so we dealt with it. I totally understand staffing shortages.
