We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday! This is a great spot for groups. Food: The nachos are excellent for sharing. Free chips and salsa are provided. I got the Matador Bowl which tasted fresh and was a great serving size. They have a seasonal menu with seasonal food and drink options. Very nut allergy friendly - don't think anything on the menu has nuts. We walked in with 9 people and were seated pretty quickly on a weekday at 5:30PM. Service was a little slow to bring drinks and take orders (barely made the happy hour 6PM cutoff) but food came out pretty quickly (within 15 minutes). My whole table ordered variants of the happy hour 3- or 5- taco option and I got the Nachos Grande with marinated steak. The restaurant is very crowded during peak hours and can get tricky navigating thru when the servers are coming through with food or drinks but they never make you feel like you are in their way. Vibes are casual but hip and the place can be loud. Come during happy hour for great deals on appetizers and drinks. Overall the Tex mex menu was pretty good. We really enjoyed all of our appetizers. The black bean dip, crispy brussel sprouts, haba prawns, and dip flight were our favorites. Literally I could not stop eating the bean dip. So freaking delicious. I ordered the paella for my main meal and it was not what I was expecting. It was very flavorful but I'd compare it to being more risotto like than being a paella. This location - It was my first time visiting with a huge group of girl friends and the service was TERRIBLE. Firstly, it was a weekday evening and they had several tables but still kept us waiting for 1hr for no god damn reason - stating they were waiting for 1 particular table to vacate!! The bar seating was not occupied either and we could all fit there too but NO they had us waiting. Once we were seated, the server was super rude! Threw the chips on the table. Food was cold. We were waiting forever to get our food. When we were placing the order, server was rolling her eyes while a couple of them changed their order. All in all service was terrible. While the food tasted good even though it was cold, I will NEVER walk into this Matador cos of their service. Very rude service. I feel home whenevr I visit a Mexican restaurant and Matador did not fail me as well. The amount of food they serve for every entree is more than enough to make you not skip gym the next day. We very much enjoyed our lunch here, where my wife had a very large (and appropriately messy) burger and fries while I tucked into three street tacos, all reasonably priced, along with two tasty drafts served in frosted mugs. The best part, however, was our server - the busiest and fastest moving waitress I've ever seen. Honestly, if I didn't know better, I'd swear she was wearing roller skates! I love Matador! We always get their Nachos during happy hour (starts at 10) and a side of fries. The serving size here for the nachos is enough for 2 people maybe even 3. We usually get meat on the nachos but their chicken can be cut a little weird sometimes and overpower the rest of the nachos. The ambiance is really nice the lighting is one of my favorite things about matador. The service is always really good, the only problem is that there is usually a pretty long wait on Friday and the weekends when you have a larger group (6+). I was planning to have dinner at El Matador, but had a terrible experience before even getting to eat. My friend and I parked in their lot for less than 30 minutes to grab something from a nearby apartment before coming back to dine. Even though we had been customers several times over the past two weeks, the staff refused to listen and said we should have eaten first. Our car was already being towed and it ended up costing $440 -- way more than we would have spent here -- ruining our evening. I understand parking rules, but the complete lack of empathy means I won't be returning. I've tried a bunch of things on the menu, but my favorite margarita is the Tamarind Ginger. You can't go wrong with their salsas and guacamole. But my #1 recommendation is the Habanero Enchiladas, and sub shrimp for chicken. If you like spicy food, you will LOVE this. This review is regarding a pick up order placed last night. Enchiladas Divorciadas, substituted the chicken for shrimp. And I am so glad I did the extra one for only $4 more. The whole dish was worth every penny. In my opinion, that was a very fair sized portion for the rice, beans, and enchiladas themselves. Chips and Salsa, another huge serving and I am always a fan when salsa has a chunkiness factor instead of being too runny/watered down. And then 2 orders of the Beef Birria Tacos. Absolutely delicious. I never end up needing the additional dip/broth for the tacos when they are already flavored so well. Friend took me out for dinner here for helping her set up and catch her suspicious boyfriend, caught that sucker red handed by the way. Matador is pretty much a staple here in downtown Redmond, more of a place to drink tequila and have Mexican inspired food rather than authentic Mexican food like you would get at those small mom and pop owned stores with the tacky decoration and menu, regardless it's still a solid choice for food in this area. A lot of my old coworkers would go here after work when I used to work around here, there's also happy hour. Kind of surprised to see such a low rating for Matador. By Seattle standards this place is EN FUEGO. I mean this is the region of the country that brought you Azteca, Las Magaritas, and the premier purveyors of bland Mexican eats, TACO TIME. Heck, right across the street from here El Toreador which has been slinging Seattle-style flavourless Southwest slop to taste-dulled families for a couple of decades. With that out of the way, Matador is pretty good. I'm not going to oversell it but I've enjoyed most of my meals here. The #1 thing to get in my opinion is the carnitas because they actually cook it properly here. It's slow roasted, tender, juicy and full of flavour. Sometimes they have Chili here and that's pretty good too. Vibe inside is still pretty nice and chill after all these years. It's kind of surprising that this is even in redmond. The service was nice, and I loved the warm ambiance. I got the Mangonada and it was delicious. I would highly recommend the dip flight, and the guacamole is to die for. However, the biggest reason I come to Matador is for the Poblano Carnitas Burrito. Hands down is the best burrito I have ever had in my life! So much flavors smashed into a burrito with a delicious sauce drizzled over top. For the experience and the food, it is reasonably priced. Love this place! Unlimited chips and salsa, say lessssss! I've been here numerous times with friends and my bf and food has always been consistent. Good service and attentive staff. The ambiance is casual and comfortable. Good for groups or couples. Great margs! Their taco salad tho, hefty and generous portion! Be prepared to share with one other person. This place is delicious. The rice was so good it's been a week and I'm still thinking about it. My ribeye tacos took a bit longer than everyone else at my table's food to come out but they were amazing nonetheless, I cleaned my plate. I was recommended the tamarind ginger margarita which was ok, more ginger than tamarind. I made a guess on my second cocktail for the mangonada - so good! Refreshing and light, with a hint of chamoy and Tajin. I recommend it! The dip flight is so good and a little spicy, and their salsa and chips are very good as well. I have a vehement hatred for black beans (which unfortunately all their entrees come with) but the black bean dip was surprising and I enjoyed it. I've been hearing about this place from my friend in Seattle for years, and it lived up to the hype! We came to Matador with friends for Top Shelf Tuesday (half off all tequila $16 and up) and had a nice experience! It was our first time here. We ordered Matador bowls with steak, steak fajitas, and the steak and shrimp tacos. My Matador bowl was tasty! I enjoyed it and would order this again. Note: for drinks, they were out of two of the tequilas we wanted (1942 and Clase Azul) - just a heads up that they might not have what you're looking for. The service was pretty good. Our server was nice but it was pretty slow and she forgot some things we asked for and we didn't see much of her. Cute and cozy ambiance here! In for dinner last week. I've been going to Matador, starting in W Seatlle for at least 20 yrs. We always look forward to their great margaritas along with reliably good food. The tamarind margaritas were 1/2 crushed ice and just a slight sweet flavor. No tequila taste AT ALL. I can't imagine that their quality had dipped that much. I've gone to Matador Redmond twice. Food: Speaking as a vegetarian, I've had the Matador bowl, which was super tasty and filling. For drinks, the tamarind margarita was absolutely amazing. However, the margarita is not consistently served the same way with the spicy rim etc. which is a bit disappointing. Service: It's decent. Polite servers who don't have a holier-than-thou attitude like some restaurants in the area. Price: I think we were looking at about $16 for the bowl with southwest veggies and no meat. Usually veggies on their own are cheaper than their chicken or beef alternative but it's the same price here. I would say that's not high end but about mid level. Atmosphere: Fun, nice decor, cute and safe vibes. Not like a family restaurant per se but sort of old money vibes. Location: Parking in this area is a nightmare to me, not gonna lie. Parking is a nightmare but I think this applies to all of downtown redmond. I had to go around the block a few times and then I waited for someone to leave. So if timing is an issue, show up early for parking. The inside is so cute! Great service, very friendly staff. Oh and the happy hour!
