I wrote this same review on Google but I think it also belongs here: I don't write reviews very often but when I do it's because a place went above and beyond expectations or they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. In this case it's because they went above and beyond! I had my driver side exhaust manifold repaired by Master Muffler and they did an amazing job. First off they allowed me to walk back and visually see the problem with my truck and explain exactly what was wrong with it and why. There was no smoke and mirrors trying to upsell me on extra repairs. Second, They provided excellent customer service, were very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to fix it. On top of that, they are military friendly and gave me a great discount for being an active duty member. They also were very accommodating to my schedule and made sure to get it done in a timely manner. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy auto repair shop. Five stars for Master Muffler! Oh and one last thing, they even sent me a thank you letter with some brownies in the mail for allowing them to work on my truck. If you're getting emissions or something dumb simple like that go ahead but don't come to them with a problem they will try and find the most expensive way to fix your car. Mechanic quoted me 2,200 for an "unfixable problem" that another mechanic fixed in a day for 280. I know they have families and crap but no need to try and scam customers. read more

Never go to this shop! They are liars, and are going to fix things improperly so they can earn more money for the company. The manager is horrible! the workers are very nice and helpful but this company has made me go into the shop 3 times in the last month. they rarely call to give you updates. they deserved to be sued for taking all my money without fixing a damn thing on my car. This shop doesn't know what they are doing. wouldn't recommend to anyone if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a car that you have to bring back in a day. I'm posting on social media to get the word out! no college student in Provo will ever go to your company! Brett is the MAN! We went through a large puddle of water and the muffler on my 2021 Toyota Sienna fell off! We are here visiting from California and I have five kids I need to drive home with! Toyota dealer needed a week to order parts. Vic at the front desk assured me it could be repaired. Sure enough Brett had us fixed up and on the road in 30 MINUTES!!! and a fifth of the cost of the Toyota dealer! These guys rock! And we have our van for the wedding! Paid extra for a lifetime guaranty muffler years ago. It rusted through and I went in for replacement. They confirmed certificate and said it would be $20 service fee as stated on certificate and muffler was free. After leaving vehicle they called to say it needed tailpipe and price was $260. They assured they are the best, and other places charge $480 for this. I called around and was quoted $240 & $290 INCLUDING purchase of new muffler. I told him I priced others including being charged for the muffler. He called someone to 'confirm' my price claims and had a 15min. conversation about 'a customer complaining about prices' obviously ripping on me while I stood there and not so much as if he was talking to someone else. Finally I gave in at $150 for the tailpipe plus the $20 for guarantied muffler. They were utterly rude, boastful, and dishonest. After he gave me my 'corrected receipt', one more surprise.... the mileage conveniently had numbers switched to indicate 9,000 miles less on odometer than is on my truck, effectively reducing 12k workmanship warranty period. I DO NOT think this was accidental. Everything here wreaked of dishonesty. (I should have taken picture of glove box contents before and after. flashlight is missing????) read more

These guys are the best! Went in for an emissions check. Only $20 (jiffy lube wanted $45!!!!)! They were only about 10 minutes. They are in and out, with quick service! Not to mention they gave me my plate stickers with registration and everything! These guys should be putting jiffy lube out of business. Don't know why anyone goes anywhere else! read more

Best experience when we were in a bad situation. Ed was so helpful. Our belt was cracked and broken on our way from Idaho to California and it was a miracle we found this place. We had waited an hour at pep boys and they told us it would be another 4-5 hours so we looked around and found this place. Ed had the part and fixed it within 20 minutes. He even called us and left us a message the next day to make sure we made it to California. We did! Great experience and great prices too! read more

Master muffler is a joke. When I come into an exhaust shop, I would hope that I would get treated fairly from a mechanic that is competent with his understanding of mechanics and how a car works. I had a car brought in to him and was told that the Exhaust Manifold was cracked, and that it needed to be replaced. I inquired about welding to get it fixed, and he simply stated to me that it could not be welded. He quoted me with a quote of about $1200 to get everything fixed. I did not understand why it would cost that much. I can get a part, and everything for half that, and I know for a fact it does not cost another 7 hours of labor to put those on. Long story short, got my manifold welded somewhere else and I am now on my way. Another situation was I took another car in to get my exhaust system looked at. Granted, it was an eBay system, but none the less I was hoping that a "Master" at mufflers would be able to readjust the positioning of my exhaust. He simply said he cannot weld that steel "that thin". Long story short for that situation, I took it to another custom exhaust shop that welded it right up. The custom Exhaust Shop (Quality Muffler in Provo, look them up!) said it's weldable, you just need to take care of what you're welding.It seems to me that Master Muffler cannot weld carefully. Don't fall for their $10 off coupon, it's simply a joke. Take your business somewhere else where integrity matters, and where they pay good money for good welders and technicians, not some half assed that cares more about getting what's in your pocket, not letting you keep what's in your pocket. I hope this helps everyone else out! read more

I have been to Master Muffler with several different vehicles. Every time they have gotten me in quickly, and have told me if it is an involved fix, or just something simple. I have always found the prices to be reasonable. I've had mounts welded, bolts replaced, mufflers replaced, and even gotten some free diagnostics of other problems I hadn't yet discovered that were unrelated to the exhaust system. The guys are super nice, and treat me with respect even when I don't know a lot about their specialty. read more

Never coming here again. Had them flush my cooling system and instead of putting a gasket back on the thermostat housing, they just put gasket sealer. Are you kidding me? I found this out because as I was driving on the freeway my truck overheated because all the coolant blew out of where the gasket SHOULD'VE been. If I hadn't have caught this, there could've been some serious damage done to my truck. Plus, their review system is rigged. If you give 5 stars, they give you a discount. Bogus. Went in to show them the pieces of silicone I found around the housing and to explain what happened. They didn't offer any type of reimbursement, basically they had a "too bad so sad" attitude about it. He also said he does that in all Dodges and Jeeps. Nice. read more

Ed was rude. said he didn't care "JUST GIVE ME AND ADDRESS!" he shouted as we went over the customer information. He was anxious to get home and told the previous customer over the phone that he was going to lock up his car for non payment. I just went for an emissions test that I had passed for the last 15 years at multiple other shops, but suddenly I was missing 2 catalytic converters and wouldn't pass,,,? These guys are real crooks complete with diagrams and very good mechanical explanations. Their five star rating is a sham. They offer a token discount to anyone that will leave them a review, requiring customers show them the review in order to receive the discount. I believe this has lead to a Yelp rating that Master Muffler does not deserve; if you want to know why, keep reading. A few weeks ago, I needed to have my brakes and rotors replaced. Because I am new to Provo, I called my "family mechanic" (from my hometown) to get an idea of how much I should expect to pay for the repairs I wanted done (he estimated it would cost about $300 for the new brakes, rotors, and the labor). I also consulted Yelp to find a mechanic I could trust. I consulted Yelp and after finding that Master Muffler had a five-star rating, I took my car there. After inspecting my car the mechanic handed me a written estimate detailing the repairs that he believed needed to be done. The estimated cost was $950 and included additional repairs that I didn't believe needed to be made. The price for the brakes, rotors and labor was nearly double the cost quoted to me by my hometown mechanic. In the end, I left the shop with the recommended repairs unmade and drove my car home. When I got my car home to my usual mechanic, I gave him Master Muffler's estimate and he reviewed my car and the repairs they'd recommended. The estimate they'd provided me was bunk, and he determined that most of the additional repairs they'd recommended were unneeded. My final bill for brakes, rotors, labor, and ONE of Master Muffler's recommended repairs was $350.00. Although Ed and his guys were nice and their shop was clean and organized, I don't believe they've earned the five-star rating they had when I initially consulted Yelp. If a clean shop and friendly staff are the most important factors you look for in a mechanic then take your car to Master Muffler. If you're looking for a fair price and an honest estimate, look elsewhere. read more

Twice these guys have over charged me and diagnosing issues with my truck more than what it really was. Most recent, My A/C Unit went out and took it into these guys. They deceivingly informed me I had to completely replace my unit and had to buy all new parts. I got a second opinion from someone I trust and all they diagnosed was a minor leak and 0% refrigerant. These guys intentions are suspect, DO NOT TRUST THEM. Find someone else to go to, I know its hard to find a trustworthy mechanic, but these guys clearly are the opposite of honest, and that includes Ed. read more

I am new to town and have not found a place I'm comfortable bringing my car for work. After some internet searching, I decided to try Master Muffler in Provo, ut. I went in for my yearly car inspection and emissions test. I am 100% satisfied with the Master Muffler team. I felt comfortable from the moment I walked in to the time I drove off the lot. Ed was more than helpful. Like most people, I was concerned about getting hammered with expensive optional car repairs, but that did not happen. Ed told me honestly what the status of my car was, and helped me make a plan. I NEVER felt any pressure to buy an unnecessary repair. As a matter of fact, the Master Muffler team went above and beyond in servicing my car. They performed several services that I'm sure I would have been charged for an another shop. The waiting area was very comfortable with nice seating and a big screen TV. That being said, I didn't need to wait long as they had me in and out in a very timely manner. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for a safe and comfortable experience. read more

Two thumbs up to Ed for staying late on a Saturday afternoon to check and repair my muffler. You can see from other reviews that Ed is the reason this shop gets high ratings, and he could of said bring it in on Monday but did not. He installed new hangers and I was in & out in mere minutes!!!!! I will return to have the muffler replaced based on his recommendation when time and money allow. Best case: they have no idea how to work on cars Worst case: they're thieves I had my wife take our car to them to have refrigerant added to the a/c unit. They called back and said it needed a new compressor and new hoses. I took it 2 blocks down the road. They charged me $89 and you could make ice in the cabin of the car. read more

Had to replace a broken bracket holding the bottom of a loaded strut and the price was higher than expected but within the predetermined range of a fair price according to difficulty, parts, and labor. Absolutely enjoyed the mechanic giving me a complete walk-through of my vehicle on the lift so I can see exactly what he sees and why he's recommending other repairs. Its hard for a mechanic to rip you off if you do prior research, learn how to understand labor costs and part costs by percentage of increase for business pocket money, and best of all when the mechanic is completely transparent and takes you back in the shop to walk you through everything he sees and getting told the why's. I honestly believe this place deserves a 5-star rating and if there are some price estimates that are too high or something unfair and shady then there must be some kind of misunderstanding between the mechanic and the customer. Highly recommend requesting a walk-through one on one with the mechanic so you can see and understand completely where he's coming from. If you understand where the mechanic is coming from, then at least if the price or service isn't for you then you can go elsewhere without hard feelings. read more

With out asking for a coupon, Ed let me know about an online coupon which brought my total down to $30. Additionally, I needed a new side-view mirror (just the mirror) to pass my safety rest. I got a good rate on an emissions inspection here--$20, which was less than they would've charged me somewhere else. I had to go to Jiffy Lube to get the safety inspection done though. The guy here failed it so he could bid me an $800 dollar exhaust system repair. I would have something like that fixed in the case there was actually a problem. read more
