Unfortunately, this was one of the worst massages I've ever experienced. It felt as though the therapist had little to no experience -- there was no flow, pressure consistency, or technique, and I left more tense than when I arrived. I wanted to ask her to just end it! I literally couldn't wait until it was over. I originally purchased a membership because of one specific therapist who was absolutely amazing, but I've since learned she is no longer there. If this experience is any indication of the current level of service, I will be ending my membership if my next visit is anything like this. If I could rate this massage a "Nope out of 10," I would. I came to MassageLuXe hoping to escape stress -- not audition for the next season of Awkward Human Contact: The Series. From the start, I knew I was in trouble. The therapist walked in with hair hanging in her face, earbuds in, and the overall vibe of someone who had just rolled out of bed and straight into my appointment. The massage itself? Imagine being randomly poked and prodded by someone who's never touched a muscle before. Add in the constant full-body contact (and not in a good way), and you've got a recipe for discomfort with a side of "oh god, is this almost over?" And just when I thought it couldn't get more cringe -- it did. I walked out to use the bathroom and she literally chased me down the hall, asking if I needed a tissue because I "looked upset." Ma'am. I had a 90-minute full body massage at the MassageLuXe Birmingham location in May 2025. At the start, I clearly asked the therapist to use medium-soft pressure and avoid too much pressure. About 30/40 minutes in, she started applying very strong pressure on my left shoulder, which was painful. I told her again to reduce the pressure, and this happened three times during the session.   The next day, I had inflammation and pain in my left shoulder and back. I went back to the location in person to show them. The receptionist saw the inflammation, but the manager (Rupi) refused to speak with me for several days. I had to go to the doctor, take medication for a week, and deal with constant pain.   I called the location many times and finally spoke to someone (he didn't give his name), who said he talked to Rupi. He offered me to buy another massage deal online and come back. No one even asked how I was doing. When Rupi finally called, she told me:   "Do whatever your doctor says. There's nothing I can do."   After that, someone else called and offered me 50% off any service, even VIP, if I agreed not to write a bad review. I agreed, trying to be fair, and didn't post anything at the time.   But when I called last week to book an appointment and use the discount, I was told there was no note or discount on my account. Again, I asked to speak with Rupi, but she hasn't returned any of my calls. I also spoke with another manager named Lee, but nothing has been done.   I'm very disappointed. I have all the medical records, photos, and Birmingham location's camera footage to prove I came in to report this less than 24 hours after my massage. I also tipped the therapist 20% because I wanted to be fair, but I expected better care from the management.   I don't usually write reviews, but I felt I needed to share this so others don't have the same experience. This was the most disappointing massage experiences I've ever had. The therapist ignored my requests, used one hand for most of the session (the other seemed to be... texting???), and left me in actual pain -- not the "good sore" kind, but the "something's not right" kind. I left the session feeling physically worse and emotionally shaken, and even started crying in my car. When I called to address it, the manager wasn't available. After two weeks and multiple follow-ups from me, she finally returned my call -- and couldn't remember my complaint because she was sorting through several others. That alone was telling. To top it off, she explained that one-handed massages are normal at their spa because the therapist "needs to balance herself because of her size," even though she was sitting down. I had a very good Swedish massage by a firm and strong young man whose name is Darkwoin (?) He did excellent hitting points i mentioned, except was light on my temples, didn't rub my feet at all, nor my face/chin. The interior was calm. Masks were required. Paperwork was signed on a tablet, but no hand sanitizer was in that room. So I used the mens room to wash my hands, the ladies' room was full and, though marked. I was told either was fine. As a long-time massage recipient and believer, I was wholeheartedly disappointed in the service I received at Massage Luxe in Birmingham, MI. Paying $210 for a 90-minute massage in this market is already well above average, but knew that going in. My session started 10 minutes late and ended 5 minutes early, shorting me 15 minutes from my session and the therapist was very rushed, uninterested, and unskilled in therapeutic deep tissue massage. I use massage therapists regularly for chronic back issues very successfully and went to this location because my therapist was out of town this month - big mistake. I left in more pain than I started with and pain in different places, not the good therapeutic pain, the take Ibuprofen-type pain. I mentioned my dissatisfaction with the timing and quality of the massage to the front desk attendant, who said "ok, would you like to schedule your next appointment?", which I declined. I offered my feedback professionally directly to the location's posted email, which was as of this review ignored. I am an avid supporter of body work and massage therapy but would never recommend this organization to anyone who is interested in massage or seeking a referral, which happens frequently given my experience with this field of service. I bought gift certificates on black Friday. I have been three times. Every time you get back into the room. They ask if you have a gift certificate. Then they proceed to try an up sell you a service, telling you that you really need it! Once I was asked if I wanted a foot massage for an upcharge of $16. I thought I came for a Facial! The facial was terrible all three times, but I had gift certificates! Maybe they should stick to massages and not facials. Today after my facial I was told that my gift certificate was not valid for a facial, only for a massage. Every time I checked out there was an issue. This place is not professional at all. Birmingham, MI location on Woodward: I booked an appointment, staff charged me $120. only to find out they are running a black Friday special $65. which I was never told about. I spoke with staff member 3 times, twice on the phone, once on arrival and she never mentioned a special. She processed my debit card for $120 and never offered the discount for today . It was only offered by another staff member after the fact and said I could still buy the discount and use it for my next appointment. So in other words pay $185 today, when I could have paid $65. Makes no sense, I want the same discount that's available to all the other customers today. The stress of dealing with this ruined my massage, the goal was to destress. Not to be overcharged. She apologized about my experience and any miscommunication regarding the cancellation. I honestly feel like she should be the manager based on how she handled things, because the manager who I spoke with was extremely rude and unprofessional. Notes: If you sign up for a membership and have a busy schedule, make sure that you push the month back or put it on pause if you can't make your appointments. If you choose to cancel, please be aware that you have 60days from the date of your last PAYMENT to schedule an appointment. That is where the misunderstanding came in at for me. I did suggest that when customers cancel, that they could go over their last payment date with them to reiterate that they have 60 days from that date to make an appt. read more

I am a member and I joined a couple months ago so I get charged monthly for massages and I wanted to give one to my husband for Father's Day and I can for an extra $20 fee. $20 extra for something I already paid for? Hard pass. There is nothing worse than a company adding extra charges that are entirely unnecessary, if it was going to the woman massaging me, that would be one thing, but it's not. You care about your clients and their need (s). You are professional and give one of the best deep tissue massages I've ever experienced. You conversate when engaged. However, sometimes I'm just looking to have the kinks and stress rubbed out. You know the right balance. As far as the facility and management there of. Kudos to the owners as well. I bought a coupon during their pre-opening deal, which was an hour massage on their hydroluxe table, for something like $30. Let me tell you, based on this price alone, I'm a little annoyed that it cost this much, much less than the $65 they normally charge. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment, and my therapist came to greet me 5 minutes after my appointment time. She left for me to get on the table, and came back five minutes after then. So we're 10 minutes into my appointment and I'm just at the beginning of my massage. I requested medium-to-firm pressure and received what could barely pass for medium. Noting revelatory, and a decent way to spend time, I guess, until she cuts me off five minutes before the end of my hour appointment time, which really means I got a 45 minute massage when it should have been an hour. I have no idea how Hydroluxe tables differ from regular ones -- I could tell no difference -- so if you're asked if you want to pay extra for it, I urge you not to. Also, the walls are paper thin, and I could definitely hear conversation at what seemed like non-shouting volume from the next room. The front desk staff had some offer to pay $10 today for an hour facial or massage on the next month, and then $65 ongoing, to which I said no thanks. Again, $65 for that massage? I usually don't do reviews however I am extremely disappointed in the service I received. I scheduled a 60 min deep tissue massage along with a 30 minute facial with scalp massage and sugar foot scrub. I know alot but it was my birthday and I wanted to treat myself. I paid for everything a week in advance. I was supposed to receive an email the day of to complete paperwork "nothing" so I called 1st thing in the morning. A young lady answered and stated that they were just about to call, to advise that they need to reschedule. Due to the person that was going to do my massage had a family emergency. Long story short after I explained to them that it was my birthday. The lady actually said I feel bad, we will figure something out. 1 Hour later I get a call to come in at 4. I get there I was seen right away, the young lady that did my massage (Sharae) should never do another massage again. Instead of massage it was like physical therapy/yoga stretching with a hot towel wipe down. I never received the sugar foot scrub but was charged for it. The young lady (Ingrid) that did my facial, hands smell like two day old onions. When I mentioned it to her or should I say asked her. Did you have lunch before this? She said yes and I expressed to her very nicely that I could smell the onions on her hands. She excused herself and was gone for 15 minutes. Mind you the facial was supposed to be for 30 minutes. Needless to say I only received a 15 minute facial and no scalp massage. As I was getting my shirt back on thinking Ingrid was right outside. Another guest walks in asking for the restroom and exposing me to everyone that walked by. At this point I am just angry that I have spent close to $250.00 for horrible services. When I get to the front desk to express my experience to the young lady (Hannah) she brushed me off and said I owe a balance of $14 for an eye renew treat that I never received. I tried one of their promotional rates and already booked a second massage and joined a I found the therapist was better than masseuses at other locations and the front staff was helpful and courteous. I dropped rating after I didn't get the full benefits of my package. The manger promised one thing with membership but they did't deliver what was promised. read more

I drive by this place every day on my way to work and have been wanting to try it out. I recently tweaked my back and as a result had been experiencing lower back pain. Prior to my hour long massage the massage therapist asked if I wanted him to focus on any areas on my body. I requested that he work on my lower back and neck/shoulder area and he did. I am writing this review two days after my massage and I have no lower back pain. I should also mention that the massage therapist showed me some stretches that I can do to loosen my back. Was a gift for my girlfriend. Paid for the massage plus an add on face mask. Came back after an hour to pick her up and found out that the massage therapist did not apply the mask for her but did send her home with it (which I could have paid for that mask at a store for cheaper). He also left her shoulders a little stiff but she was overall very happy and relaxed. They let me try out their hydrotherapy table as well which was nice and helped me out a bit! Super nice staff! FANTASTIC! Right when I walked in the door I knew I was going to have a great experience. The staff is very friendly and professional. The women who checked me in were very knowledgeable and made me feel welcome. The manager, Shawn, is also extremely personable and friendly. The waiting room is comfortable and the wait time is minimal. I have had multiple deep tissue massages and they have all been amazing. I have seen a few different massage therapists and have been pleased. However, I have found one that I see more consistently; Jonathan. Everything is also very clean, which is extremely important to me. I also signed up for the family membership package due to their affordable rates. My husband and I went and had massages, both were very good. They accommodated us simultaneously, which isn't always easy for 90 minute massages at the same time.
