But here is why I would never return... the front desk staff is unprofessional, lacks experience to handle a high end customer, because let's face it, the price point is not for a middle class customer. I was recommended to this spa by my sister and wow, it far exceeded my expectations. The staff is very friendly. I wish I could have gotten an appointment sooner but that just goes to show you how great this place is and utilized for some really good self care pampering. Best spa in metro detroit for sure. I bought a giftcard years ago and had tried to book an appointment with my friend back in Dec. They were so busy we had to book months out and ended up having to cancel due to covid surges. I am docking a point because they are busy and booking can be difficult. Also, in the time that passed, the price of the massage went up about $30. I was able to pay the difference but I feel they should have honored the price of the service at the time it was purchased. I ended up getting lucky because I called yesterday and they had a cancellation for the next day! Sold! The spa itself is stunning. The atrium room is so relaxing and nice. I've been here for both the nail and spa services and was impressed both times. Located in downtown Birmingham, the spa is on the 2nd floor of the building next to the Daxton hotel. There isn't much signage on the street level except for on the glass door to the building. I always park in the parking garage on Peabody which is one block over (towards Birmingham Roast). Everyone that I've interacted with--from the front desk staff, the nail technicians, to the masseuses--is very professional. They all speak in a quiet volume and with a soothing tone that is essential to a fancy spa vibe. My nail technician, Staci, did a great job with my gel manicure and Luxe Pedicure. She was very detail oriented and took her time with the polish. She didn't do as aggressive of a job of pushing back and cutting off my cuticles that you might get at a traditional Asian nail salon (which I'll admit, sometimes I appreciate), but other than that I was really happy with the manicure. I found the manicure stations a little uncomfortable because the tables are not open underneath for me to be able to put my legs underneath. I found myself sitting at the edge of my chair just to be at the right distance for the manicure, but its nothing a couple of pillows behind me couldn't fix. I'm not sure if the Luxe Pedicure is truly worth the extra $10 because it's essentially more creams and oils with callous removal, but if that's important to you then I'd say go for it! The pedicure chairs are beautiful and look more like an expensive arm chair than a traditional massage chair. After the nail services you receive a little bag to take home with the nail file, buffing block, etc. from your service. Overall, I really appreciated how clean everything is kept. It definitely doesn't have that overwhelming acetone smell that can be present at some salons. For my deep tissue massage, I had Don as my masseuse. As it was my first time there for a massage, he took the time to explain what to expect (aromatherapy, 2 hot stones, dry steam towel, etc.) as well as available add ons (for a fee, of course). I was particularly sore from my recent workouts so I needed firm pressure to address my recovering muscles. He checked in about the level of pressure and was cognizant of the areas that I requested that he focus on. A heads up that it was a little challenging to get an appointment for a massage even when booking 2 weeks in advance, and even then they only had morning times available and male masseuses (which I know can be a deal breaker for some people). Other tips: -The robes are lined with fleece, come with tons of pockets on the inside and outside, and all around are just amazing. They're also apparently for sale in the front! -They also provide slippers and ask for your shoe size when you book your appointment. -If you're paying with a gift card, you cannot use it to add gratuity. If you want to tip with a card, the minimum is 20%, otherwise you can use cash. read more

Loved my experience at Rivage! It's a beautiful spa. Every area of the spa was clean, from the bathrooms to the main room. The amenities of the robe and slippers is a nice touch. It's very relaxing and I didn't want to leave the main resting area. They offer lemon water and Madeline cookies. They really should offer sparkling water and champagne for their guests, just to give it a more luxurious touch. The massage with Rada was amazing. She was super nice and she really worked on my back. She was very focused and I would request her for every massage. So let's start with the positives. Nice facility situated on a second floor building in the heart of Birmingham. Easy to find. Nice employees, everything was on time for our appointment. Private locker room was nice and clean. Robe provided was soft and nice. Complimentary water, Keurig pods,tea, and mandolins (I buy the same from Costco) were out for self service. My massage was nice. I had Renee. She put in effort and gave me a nice massage. She asked me which areas she should focus on and I told her, but have I had better? Yes. I would give her a B rating. She wasted a lot of time stroking my legs. She didn't get the arch of my feet or my toes at all. She neglected my trouble areas and wasted time on other areas which I guess is part of her routine.. With that brings me on to the cons. The shower curtain was stained and could use replacing. The shower and body gel containers are worn with tapped on labels which look tacky. My massage therapist Renee pulled her mask down to her neck when we got into the room and she got face to face with me and started to try and up sell me on products I did not want. Had I wanted them I would have booked for them. For the remainder of the massage when I was face up, I could feel her breathing on my face while massaging my face. Considering covid and all, I felt helpless because it's not like I could wear a mask for portions of the face massage. I didn't like that she did that. I also don't like how at the end, if you want to tip less than 20% tip, they won't let you put it on a credit card, it has to be cash. I felt the entire experience was overpriced and it was a one time deal. Also in my room, I could hear constant Jack hammering and construction from the space below (which is not their fault) but it did take away from my experience. I feel 3 stars is a honest rating. Just had my first massage treatment here and I was beyond happy with my experience. Rivage Day Spa is located in Downtown Birmingham across from the movie theatre. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. Since it was my first visit, they gave me a quick tour of the atrium area and locker room. The atrium is a large room with a relaxing fountain display, lots of comfy sofas, and small snacks and drinks are available as well. These amenities are available before and after your treatment, but I personally wish I came a little earlier to have a mimosa before my massage. I surprised my fiancé with a spa day for his birthday and both of us LOVED our first time at Rivage Day Spa. We booked the tranquility for two package which includes a therapeutic massage, champagne lunch and classic pedis. Everything about this spa was so beautiful from the front entrance, lobby, lounge space and locker rooms. The massage was hands down the best massage I've ever had so if you're planning on booking a massage there, ask for Teisha! Everything overall felt so intentional and the staff was very attentive. My fiancé was peeling from some sunburn and they brought out an aesthetician to apply some lotion to his face (he was feeling so pampered) while we were eating lunch. Lunch is catered from the social kitchen I believe and you can pick from a list of salads with chicken added to the side if you want. At first I didn't understand why you could only pick from salads but they bring in lunch and set it up while you're finishing up your massage/facial/nails...so it makes sense that you wouldn't want to order something in case it gets cold sitting there. The spa was clean and bright although I did not get to spend extra time relaxing there due to covid. Rivage is the best! I really love the vibe there, the entire experience is so classy and relaxing. You have the option of changing into a plush robe for your services (but you don't have to!), and IMO it improves the elegance and comfort of your visit. Went in for a classic manicure and luxe pedicure, my technician was amazing in the sense of personality, hospitality and overall welcoming! I have no complaints with the pedicure but when it comes to the manicure the gel(which is a 20 dollar add on) on top of 40 dollar classic mani, it started to chip 4 days after getting them done and one even peeled off, so that's really disappointing just coming from the prices they are charging. Haven't experienced their spa services though and the place is beautiful so might go back for that but I don't think the gel was worth the add on for the manicure already. read more
