Dr. Shi has been practicing acupuncture for decades. Dr. Shi can speak some English, but is fluent in Mandarin. As a patient who speaks some Mandarin, I'm fortunate enough to learn that Dr. Shi travels to give speeches in China and he continues to learn the arts of healing. Dr. Shi is an unorthodox acupuncturist in which his methods are not just sticking needles in your body. He asks your body to change the tendons, the muscles, the bones, the fascia, and even the skin. And yes Dr Shi talks to your body, it's so strange (I know), but he can find where the source of your pain is from and he tries to find the root cause of the pain so he can transform your body. Even if I don't tell him I have pain in a specific area, he will find out after assessing your body. As someone who suffers from multiple injuries, my chronic pain and musculoskeletal problems caused migraines, dizziness and pain with movement. I saw renowned acupuncturists twice to three times a week for three months and my symptoms never improved significantly enough to go about my daily life. I saw Dr. Shi for one month, twice a week and my headaches and dizziness improved right away. My range in motion also increased with less pain. Additionally, my stiffness and deep pain lessened. So why the magic... okay, I get it. You need a concrete example. I have a painful bump in the back of my head, it was about 2inch so not too big, but pressing on it caused migraines and shooting pain down my neck and spine. Dr. Shi placed acupuncture needles in my body, asked me to do some strange movements, and in three sessions the spot was less tender and I no longer have shooting pain down my neck and spine. This was also combined with Western medicine. It's not completely gone because he explained that healing is treatment, time, taking care of yourself, staying warm and moving correctly. I also like the way Dr. Shi inserts and takes out the needles. He prepares your body and gently inserts the needles. If it will be a painful spot, he will guide you on how to lessen the pain for that acupoint. I am excited that the acupuncture clinic will be opened soon. This way, Dr. Shi can help more people.

Whoever is helping you that day will give you a breakdown of what was seen and what will be done to treat your hair/scalp. The massage and washing of your head/hair is very therapeutic and relaxing. After your session, you revisit your hair/scalp and you can see the changes from a 60 minute treatment. You are also given a cup of yummy tea and a snack if you'd like. Overall, my experience was great. They make an emphasis on feeling relaxed and rejuvenated and i definitely felt that way after. I will definitely be back and recommend it.

My hair is long, not absurdly long, and on the thicker side; I don't know if this was too much? A small thing that also would've been nice is being told what each item or step was; there was an awkward several minute pause in which my hair was "steaming" and I wasn't sure why nothing was going on and had to ask. I had told my masseuse specifically as well that I had a neck spasm, asking if she would work on my neck at all; wasn't sure if that was part of the scalp massage. She said yes and I got a few pats on the traps during the massage. What bothered me the most though, was the somewhat rapid jerking of my head off the bowl for different elements of the shampooing and rinsing - this did NOT help my neck. All in all - on their website on the front page it says "About our spa: deep scalp & neck myofascial release". I just don't feel like this accurately reflects what went on in 60-70% of my hour-long massage, which was, again, a fairly well-marketed hair wash/rinse. With that description - and price ($160 for an hour) - I want a head, scalp, and neck massage, not a hair wash. The studio is very clean and well-kept, with pleasant decor and music.
