I came to Head Spa EN with a long-awaited gift card from my husband, who had raved about this place, and had an appointment in the books for midday on a weekend. I've had a Japanese head massage/scalp eval at a different location (different folks completely), and loved it, so I had very high expectations here. All in all - this 60 min experience was a glorified hair wash. Maaaaybe about 20 min in the middle was a really wonderful scalp massage, but it was pretty much just A TON of rinsing out my hair. Back and forth, a shampoo, steaming, rinse with this and that, then rinse rinse rinse rinse. The massage was so nice - and brief in the scheme of things - and then more shampoo (or treatment or something) and rinse rinse rinse. Then rinse rinse rinse rinse with a different technique. My hair is long, not absurdly long, and on the thicker side; I don't know if this was too much? A small thing that also would've been nice is being told what each item or step was; there was an awkward several minute pause in which my hair was "steaming" and I wasn't sure why nothing was going on and had to ask. I had told my masseuse specifically as well that I had a neck spasm, asking if she would work on my neck at all; wasn't sure if that was part of the scalp massage. She said yes and I got a few pats on the traps during the massage. What bothered me the most though, was the somewhat rapid jerking of my head off the bowl for different elements of the shampooing and rinsing - this did NOT help my neck. All in all - on their website on the front page it says "About our spa: deep scalp & neck myofascial release". I just don't feel like this accurately reflects what went on in 60-70% of my hour-long massage, which was, again, a fairly well-marketed hair wash/rinse. With that description - and price ($160 for an hour) - I want a head, scalp, and neck massage, not a hair wash. The studio is very clean and well-kept, with pleasant decor and music. read more

I had a signature service today. My friend who went had a wonderful experience. I didn't. The angle of the chair and the bowl that I laid my head on gave me a headache. We switched chairs and my person didn't know what to do to help me feel better. I would have cancelled on the spot but this place requires prepayment. I was cold sweating and left with a migraine and a really tight neck. The person who helped me didn't do anything other than apologize. I appreciate the apology and would have liked problem solving. In summary, I paid 200 dollars to get a migraine. Also a tip: do your research on your technician. My friend had a great service and was offered tea/snack at the end. I didn't receive that. She heard what the service entailed. I was just asked to sit in a chair and lie down. She has a bolster for behind her knees. I didn't. ...etc I think you could spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. For me, this has very very low low CP value. Expensive. Painful. And there wasn't anyone to call to help solve a problem. Not worth it at all. By the way, I don't think the business does responsive customer service. This is what I gathered from the person who performed my service. So. Let's see. Just. In this economy. This is an authentic Japanese scalp massage place. I go here not just to relax but to help with the autoimmune balance. The shiatsu aspect of it helps a lot with my health. Before the treatment, when I press on top of my head, I would feel a dull pain and my head when carefully touched, feels asymmetrical. After the treatment, the swollen scalp is gone, no pain, and the good scalp condition continues for several weeks. It's different from non-Japanese places that use just machines. It's not just cleaning the scalp but the use of hands to do shiatsu that really differentiates this place. Ms. Emi is fantastic. I highly recommend her. read more

Ken was so friendly, nice and helpful. If you can, request him! This was my first scalp evaluation, massage and wash. I didn't know what to expect. I received the one hour scalp massage and shampoo as part of a birthday gift. When you get there, you change into a silk kimono which was very nice. The whole experience was relaxing. I was relieved to learn that my scalp was healthy. My only small complaint is that you end with wet hair. I get a head cold when my hair is wet. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom that you can use to dry your own hair. The experience also ends with hot tea and a sweet cookie. I loved that! My sister and I had a 3 pm appointment and my brother had his appointment an hour later. Thanks for the recommendation, brother! The parking wasn't so bad since there was a parking lot at De Lacey nearby that only charges $1 for two hours. I had the deep cleaning treatment and it was amazing! It started off with the scalp examination and just to see the hair follicles close up was mind blowing! Staff was friendly and let me know what they were planning to do beforehand. I felt so relaxed and even fell asleep during the treatment. I only had a few clogged pores from my scalp so it was nice to have them removed. My hair felt better afterwards! Thank you so much!!! Love! Love! Love!!!! Highly recommend this place if you're looking to de-stress and pamper yourself a little. I did the Head Spa + Deep Scalp Cleansing that totaled 1hr45min with Riko!! The time flew by so quickly! My scalps never felt cleaner and more relaxed! Make sure to bring some styling hair supplies bc unless they have the blow-dry service, you'd have to blow-dry your hair in the restroom. They provide brushes and a Dyson blow dryer. Not Worth the Hype (or the Price) This was my first time going to a head spa, and I was really looking forward to it. I've seen Instagram reels of head spas using cool scalp tools, and giving soothing massages that look amazing. Unfortunately, this experience didn't live up to any of that. The space was nice and the person giving the treatment was kind, but the service itself felt underwhelming. There was no real scalp massage--just some light pressure for about 20 minutes. At one point, he wrapped my hair and left the room for 10 minutes, without offering any kind of shoulder or neck massage while I waited. The only part that felt relaxing was a quick 5-minute shoulder rub at the end. They did take a magnified video of my scalp before starting, but never showed me what it looked like afterward--which felt like a missed opportunity for connection or feedback. They also didn't offer any guidance on what my scalp or hair might need, or recommend any products to help improve it. My hair did feel clean afterward, but for $150 plus a $30 tip, it honestly felt like I had just paid for a hair wash. I walked out feeling disappointed. read more

It also promotes deep sleep, which helps relieve stress from headaches, migraines, insomnia, etc. I had a fantastic experience and felt so relaxed. I booked a 10am scalp treatment this morning thinking it would be early enough to not be too crowded and more relaxing. The service itself was nice and so was the gentleman who provided it but the salon - which has open ceilings so any and all noise can be heard - was really loud. First there were people talking quite loudly, and the gentleman had to go out and ask the people talking to be more quiet. Then it sounded like people were cleaning the space and making noise and clatter and at one point dropped something on the floor. For $160, I was really looking to sit and relax and enjoy the service. When I left, the gentleman apologized profusely and gave me a card for 15% off my next visit. I feel that there are several new head spas that have opened in Pasadena recently and I will most likely try another place. I was very disappointed. read more

I had the most wonderful time with Kensuke and my Deep Scalp Cleansing in the Pasadena location, today! First off, I was late to my appointment because I couldn't find parking (heads up, I would get there at least 30 mins early to find parking). My appointment was at 1230 and I walked in around 1245 and (after a small bathroom break) we began at 1250. I was very apologetic and Kensuke was so sweet about it and told me not to worry. While we were in my session, he took his time. I was worried that because I was late that my session would be cut short but never did I feel rushed or a burden to his time. He took his time examining my scalp before hand, talking me through what I was seeing on the monitor, his hands were gentle yet firm enough to really massage the tension out of my head, and his demeanor just immediately put me at ease. If I had to complain about anything, it would have to be that it ended. I would love to come back again and even try the Deluxe package! read more

What a fun, relaxing experience! Started off a little stressed since I'm not familiar with the area. I parked in a lot next to the building, but Head spa EN staff told me I couldn't park there. Riko and Ken were SO helpful in explaining to me where I can park. Ken even ran out with me to try to help me find spots (exceptional customer service!!!) There seem to be pay to park lots around the area. Lots of meters on the street and a nearby bridge. I recommend having the "Passport" app set up so you can pay for these meters without needing quarters! Once I finally got all parked (I was now late ), Ken was so patient and reassuring. I've been dying and bleaching my hair for years. Add that to all the stress from the last few years of pandemic life - I noticed my hair thinning and a lot more hair falling out when I wash my hair. All my lab work is in normal range so I don't have any clinical reasons why this is happening. Additionally parking is free and right behind the salon. I came in this past weekend to try the 40 minute headspa with Sayuri and absolutely floated out the door after my service. Sayuri starts off the with a quick consultation by examining your scalp with a cool mini microscope set up. I loved that she was super patient and attentive to all of my scalp concerns. She then proceeded with a back and shoulder massage and then hair washing. One of the best parts about her service is the top notch products she uses. The Japanese Milbon system is not only the best smelling shampoo in the universe but also healthy and nourishing for damaged hair like mine. I struggle with scalp psoriasis and it was driving me crazy. I decided to come here for their deep cleansing treatment which helps address scalp conditions. Sayuri was so welcoming and kind. She explained to me what she was going to do today and was so gentle. My scalp felt so much better than when I came in. I came in itchy, scaly, and had so much white dead skin falling off. Hi everybody. Tomoko provided my services, and I as so relaxed and spaced out. First off, it was very interesting so see my scalp through this microscopic device she uses. I was very glad to see up close that I had no skin issues. Next... the shoulder and neck massage. Yes. Next she shampooed my hair with lovely smelling shampoo. Then, came the steam. I'm sure people like the steam, it prepares the hair for the treatment, but it was a little too hot for me. Tomoko fixed that right away though. Then we moved on to the amazing moisture hair treatment. It felt so nice and soft. My hair was soft for days afterward. While that was on she massaged my scalp. It's the ultimate Luxury.
