We were so excited to give this place a try. We stopped by on a rainy, gloomy day. Inside is amazing. Everything was so nicely decorated and bougie. My daughter and I definitely want to come back to dine in with some tea and treats. Today we picked up a few items to try at home. Everything looked so pretty we had a hard time deciding what to get. I ended up getting a couple of savory pastries that I usually get at another bakery, with spinach and feta, and parmesan and leek. These were delicious and although a bit pricier they were better than the other place I get them. So flakey and yummy. I also got a pistachio tart (told it was similar in flavor profiles to the viral Dubai chocolate bar). This was pretty good. The strawberry mousse was beautiful but it lacked for me. It has a strawberry jam inside, mousse outside. The creme brulee tart was also pretty good as well. The pistachio croissant was filled with cream inside and was pretty good as well. This is solely for the service. I've visited Marvel Cake several times, and while the sweets and coffee are consistently excellent, the service is always disappointing. The staff never greet you warmly, and it often feels like you're interrupting their free time just by coming in to order. They're always in a bad mood, which makes the experience uncomfortable no matter how good the food is. I've spoken to them in person many times about the service and even mentioned it to the owner, but nothing has changed. I usually try not to post negative reviews, but this consistently rude and unwelcoming behavior really needs to be mentioned. read more

Beautiful ambiance, beautiful desserts, and staff that went out of their way to make our visit pleasant. We came a bit late in the evening so everything was almost gone, and also given that it was Valentine's Day. But the friendly staff made sure to let us know they still had more desserts in the back for us to choose from. I really loved the tart we saw but needed to check on ingredients. The kind lady who was helping us went out of her way to check in with their coworker and they called their chef who left not too long ago to check on the ingredients for me. I was touched by their kindness in making sure I got the information needed. We ordered an ube sesame tart. I liked that it wasn't too sweet. There was a lovely heart raspberry mousse that I was considering. It was specially made red for Valentine's Day but usually comes as a pink heart. All their desserts were gorgeously beautiful. Cakes are pricy but beautiful cafe, and DIRTY! I came here just bcoz of the red rose shaped cake but they didn't have it the day I went. So, I tried the cake with rose petals & pistachios & jasmine?! I didn't like it, and the drink was not as good as expected! I would say, the displays are all good for taking pictures but not tasty (to me and my mom only). But what caught my attention was the cleanness. The seats/couches are full of stains and cake debris. Few young ladies were chatting and playing with their cell phones. Such a beautiful cafe opened up here in Walnut Creek. Located slightly away from the main area. It's beautiful inside. The perfect spot to meet up with girlfriends to catch up in life. Cakes are gorgeous here. But if u want to order one, be prepare to order a month in advanced! No wifi here, they aren't encouraging folks to hangout and work here I guess. Visited Marvel Cake today with my mom and sister. We loved it! The atmosphere is refined and the options were a wonderful selection. Sarah helped us and she was friendly, knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I had to try the L'Opera cake as she said it was one of her favorites. My sister opted for the Strawberry Tart and my mom chose the Napoleon (not pictured). We all loved our desserts! The L'Opera was not super rich and just the perfect balance of flavors. For drinks, I opted for a classic later with oat milk. It was very good and I didn't feel I needed flavor added to it. My mom and sister both got the Lavender Latte (not pictured), one iced and one hot, and were both fans of it. I am not impressed with this place. Not only are they overpriced for what you're getting it's not even good. I must say the decor is nice and bright to maybe sit for a cup of coffee but for pastries? Not so much. The stars only go for the decor/service but the actual taste is very mediocre. As someone who bakes and likes dessert this place was so disappointing and underwhelming. I got the bisou and the serenity and paid $25 for both. I must say they look gorgeous the presentation is there but just not the taste. Bland not much flavor. Price wouldn't matter if it tasted good but in this case I'd rather go to a different bakery and spend less money for desserts that actually taste good. I do not plan to return. read more

We really enjoyed the pastries we had at this bakeshop & cafe in Walnut Creek. We sampled the tiramisu mille crepe cake, the mango mille crepe cake, the ube-black sesame mousse & almond bites. The pastries were too beautiful to eat, but we did - and they tasted as great as they looked. The ambiance was elegant, but relaxed, reminiscent of a French patisserie. They also have a variety of coffee and teas served in pretty teapots and teacups. We brought home some more goodies: the creme bruleè tart, butter croissants and the Dubai croissant (which we had to wait for a next batch, and so glad we did as it came out piping hot and delicious!). We're coming back to try out the other patisserie and viennoiserie items, & perhaps pair them with coffee or tea next time! Oh, the only thing that disappointed us is that they're not selling the mille crepe cakes whole. read more

The tarts are so pretty and nicely made but don't taste that good. I spent $29.92 on 2 tarts and 2 almond bites. These are not worth what I spent on them at all. I was shocked when I was told the price. I feel like at $12 a pop, they should taste how look. I feel ripped off!! Why are they so expensive for no reason other than we will pay it so our food look pretty when we eat it. Crazy!! Love the passion fruit tart! Bright and vibrant with a glossy glaze. It had passion fruit mousse, shredded coconuts and fresh mango chunks inside. Absolutely delish! The lavender latte was subtle and had a nice floral flavor, my new go-to drink. Tried Marvel Cake for the first time today. Really beautiful space. I had a tiramisu tart, my daughter had a Napoleon, and my granddaughter had a chocolate cupcake. I loved the lightness of my tart, and the crust was delicate and buttery. My one ding and it's a fixable tiny ding is that the water for the tea was not hot enough. You can't brew tea in water that is just hot, it should be boiling so the tea can properly steep. Next time I'll ask for it hotter. The tea they serve is my very favorite French tea "Mariage Frères. One word: po$h. I've managed to get a pistachio layered crepe cake during a 2nd visit. During the 1st visit, the cashier told me promptly upon entering that they currently only accept cash or Venmo. Neither of those payment options were appealing to me (Venmo, really?), so I simply left. While I enjoyed the mouth-watering cake (not a *single* thing was wrong with it -- pure bliss) the sticker shock of paying $13 (after taxes) for a slice still haunts me. I get that a cake with paper-thin handmade crêpes layered with ethereal light pastry cream takes time but... this is extreme. I might as well venture to Babushka across the street and get myself some scrumptious honey cake there (for *way* less) and reach the same level of Cake Nirvana The fact that the place is located outside of Broadway Plaza, but in closer proximity, works ultimately in its favor. It could have potential? The pastry I had was dense and overly sweet. I had a pistachio croissant. For $8? I could get something better. We also had a strawberry mouse and at best it tasted like jello meets whipped cream for $12. The flavor was simple and nice but reminiscent of something I had in elementary school and not Paris. The coffee was standard; nothing special. Lukewarm at best. Service was okay. It was a bit slow but maybe still getting used to the routine? The cafe/ambiance itself is pretty, fancy, clean, airy and bright. It would probably do better as a tea house than a fancy bakery. It's trying to be more fancy than it should be. I recommend to try it once. I did and maybe I'll come back...maybe I won't. The price point to quality just didn't meet my expectation. Originally saw Marvel via an Instagram post. Boy am I glad I did! My niece and I went this afternoon to give it a try. The interior is modern, sleek, and well thought out. The pastries were so beautiful we didn't know where to start , so we chose multiple items to share. Our savory choice was the Spinach & Feta croissant. I was pleasantly surprised as I thought the feta would be a bit overpowering, but it was mild and perfect. We also tried the almond croissant, pistachio tart, mixed fruit tart with custard and the Selene. Of course we needed something to wash all of the deliciousness down. My niece ordered the matcha latte and I opted for the pink rose latte. Both were so good. We will definitely return and try additional items. Great service as well! 10/10 read more

CONS: rusted silverware, chipped silverware, partially frozen desserts, latte design was messed up & i couldn't taste the red velvet, improper thawing (frozen dessert was being thawed in the display case), expensive, i also don't think these are fresh desserts, i believe they freeze it when they don't sell out then put it back on the display case again PROS: pretty desserts (tasted smooth & sweet), ambiance was pretty, service was standard do i think each dessert is worth $11 or more each? no, because my sister was served a partially frozen dessert & its really not worth paying that much for what you're getting. i think they have to work on outstanding service, fixing the silverware, & fixing their partially frozen desserts. this place has a lot of potential but unfortunately, the cons have outweighed the pros. read more

I love this place and am so happy we finally have a nice bakery in Walnut Creek! The ambiance is great, and the pastries are both delicious and beautifully made, like pieces of art. I especially love the Neapolitan, pistachio, ube, and bisou. We also love the chocolate croissant and the famous chocolate and pistachio croissant. I've tried both the lavender and rose latte and like them both. though I prefer lavender, both are great. The service is excellent, and everyone is super friendly. read more

I really wanted to like this bakery. The decor is well-appointed and the desserts are "beautifully decorated." They look like works of art - but that is where it ends. Their prices are very "high." - and I do not mind paying a princely sum for great food. So money was not the issue for me. However, I believe that if you are going to charge A LOT - PLEASE respect your customers enough to have the taste match the price. But it was the NOT CASE here. The BIGGEST problem with their "mini-tarts" is the use of TOO much gelatin in the mousse. It had a rubbery taste (which diluted the flavors) and sorry, I couldn't figure out what type of base the tarts had. It was a mystery. Overall, they were pretty much tasteless. This happened with both the lemon and strawberry tarts. I also had the EXPRESSO (SUPER STRONG AND BITTER)!!!. So it was a bust for me. I did not try anything else, but would not want to risk paying an ungodly sum if the cakes were anything like the tarts. I suggest Marvel Cake bakers take a page from the folks who run Tarts de Feybesse in Oakland - OMG. There is a market for fine pastries and certainly in Walnut Creek. Owners if you are looking at these reviews, please take some time to do more testing on your flavors and tart bases. The decorative elements are beautiful and no denying there. By the way in the midst of being in this elegant space, the manager was sweeping the floor. Wasn't sure what to make of that. Definitely cute vibes and they are busyyy! came on a saturday and luckily there was some seats available to sit inside. Omg the pink rose latte was so delicious absolutely loved it. The pistachio cake was alright. When i ordered they gave me no receipt or number nothing said they would bring it to the table. Without a receipt or number the workers seemed a little lost as they asked people if the item in their hand was there's or they asked who had what which was a lil weird i felt like. Also they first missed up on our lattes as they put it in a to go cup instead of mug cup for inside and when we asked them to redo it, i felt a little attitude from the worker! this is why you should have a receipt and number to give customers orders correctly.
