I've been here twice now and highly recommend! The 4 hand-roll combo is my favorite and it gives a nice selection of the different fish. Also tried the crudo and loved it. Atmosphere is pretty. Also they have a byob policy if you want to bring your own wine or sake. They do serve beers onsite though.

Maru Handroll Bar is Memphis' first hand roll bar. They serve a variety of small bites, crudos, sashimi, and sushi hand rolls. It is a two-story restaurant with a dedicated hand-roll bar on the ground floor. At the same time, the mezzanine level will offer an exclusive space for omakase service (TBD for the mezzanine opening). Parking is available in a private lot shared with other businesses. I highly recommend making reservations via phone or Resy on the weekends, as we waited about 25 minutes past our reservation time on the ground floor. Because the restaurant is fairly new, they do not have a liquor license yet, so you can bring your own alcohol (sake cups are provided). FOOD: 1. Spicy Tuna Handroll (4/5): This is part of the 3 hand roll option. This was my favorite. Simple and fresh. 2. Hamachi/Japanese Amberjack Handroll (4/5): This is part of the 3 hand roll option. This was my second favorite. Simple and fresh. 3. Sake/Wild-Caught Salmon Handroll (4/5): This is part of the 3 hand roll option. This was my least favorite, but it was still good. Simple and fresh. 4. Scallops Sashimi (4/5): There are three pieces per order. I would order these again. 5. Bluefin Akami Tuna Sashimi (4/5): There are three pieces per order. I would order these again. 6. Chutoro/Medium-Fatty Tuna Sashimi (5/5): There are three pieces per order. I would order these again. 7. Maguro Tuna Crudo (3/5): I was not that impressed by this. 8. Hamachi/Japanese Amberjack Crudo (5/5): We debated ordering another. This was definitely the best of the three crudos and was recommended by the couple next to us. The service was great. The servers around the hand roll station were attentive, and the sushi chefs took their time to create each dish. Everything was made fresh to order, and the food came out at a good pace. Would I come back? Yeah.

I thought this was such a cool and interesting restaurant! I did not know that the menu served basically only hand rolls and no sushi rolls but I thought it was very fun. The whole restaurant is very vibey. Even though I went with a friend I can see it being the ultimate date night. There are no tables here, you only sit around a bar counter. They make your sushi hand rolls in front of you then place each one on the bar counter for you to take. I thought everything was delicious and tasted so fresh. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly! When we came they still did not have their liquor license but you can byob it which I think is pretty cool! All in all it's a fun spot to check out.

Manu is an excellent addition to the Memphis food scene. The ambiance of sitting right at the bar and getting served as it is ready was so fun! We visited in the later afternoon on a weekday and were served immediately. Everything was delicious! I think we all agreed that getting the a crudo was a perfect opener and that we should have gotten the three handroll combo that they offer. The hashimi handroll was the fan favorite, followed closely by the spicy tuna. I also tried an avocado and it was delicious. The chili cucumber was a great way to start our meal. I am excited to return again!

Outstanding fish. The best I have had in all of Tennessee so far. The roles are small and it takes a while to get full. You should probably pregame with a steak before you come because you don't want to try to fill up on the A5W steak, unless you're trying to impress your date with how rich you are. It's a small restaurant and it fills up quickly. They accept reservations and they are probably the only way you're going to get a seat on Friday or Saturday night without waiting. If I was rude to the manager, that was my fault, and I apologize.

Fantastic ! Great vibes and friendly staff . I tried the 5 handroll set . Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Negitoro, Kani, Avacado All were tasty ! My favorite though were the hamachi roll and the A5 Definitely worth checking out if you have time .

I'm so glad Memphis has a spot like this! Everything was very fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. I love the bar concept!

I could not take pictures of the food fast enough! So all I got was a menu picture :) That was the most fresh, flavorful fish I have EVER eaten! (I seriously can't emphasize that enough.) The server was so helpful in answering all of our questions and checking in on how we were doing throughout the meal. We went right when they opened at 11 on a Sunday and it was the perfect environment. Getting to watch the chefs at work was masterful. I am already counting down the days until I come back for that SAKE CRUDOOOOOOOOO and those delicious hand rolls!

I did not like the A5 wavy roll. Meat was over cooked. Was not worth $28.. I also didn't like the scallop hand roll. While the fish tasted fresh the roll has mint in it. Disgusting. Wish I knew ahead if time. They should print what's on the inside on the menu. The cucumbers were good and the Sake crudo was just ok to me. I would try it again for different things. However I paid $57 and was not full after my meal.

It came with miso soup, a salad, salmon, rice, and vegetables. It was so tasty and well seasoned that I didn't have to add any sauce. It was also very filling. They have a full sushi menu that I'm interested in trying. However, during this visit, I got the spicy crab roll. It was good and just enough to satisfy my sushi craving. The waitress was very attentive. She checked on us often and made sure we had everything we needed. Love it!

A bit of a head-scratcher with their closing times…read more.. I walked in at 2:00 PM on a weekday, expecting to get a quick lunch since their posted hours say they are open until 2:30 PM. Apparently, that is not quite how it works here. The hostess explained that the posted hours are "off" and laid out a pretty confusing timeline of how they actually operate: At 2:00 PM: Dining inside officially ends, because the servers stop working. Until 2:15 PM: You can still place a to-go order because the kitchen is technically open. At 2:30 PM: The restaurant actually closes. So, if you arrive at 2:00 PM, you are strictly limited to takeout. It is a bit frustrating to be turned away from dining in a full half-hour before the scheduled closing time just because the staff is already winding down. If the dining room closes at 2:00 PM, it would be a lot easier for everyone if they just updated their posted hours to reflect that.

The crawfish dumplings were also solid, but the wings were the standout of the meal. We also tried the Bake MF Margarita, which I expected to taste like tea, but it's actually a refreshing peach-flavored margarita. At about $22, it's generously sized for two people and definitely worth trying. Our server, Mason, was very nice and made great selections for us. Overall, I'm giving Good Fortune Company (4/5). The only reason it wasn't a perfect score was the missing Slap Noodles. Even so, I'd happily return and hope to try them next time. Next time im ordering Ramen!

Our waitress, Grace quickly became like family with her outgoing personality, attention to detail and knowledge of all the local foodie places to hit up with honest reviews of each. We chatted like we were old friends and she was patient with a few meal adjustments even complimenting some choices saying the chef is going to be so excited to see you ordering filet correctly! (In case you're wondering, always med rare - never well done!) The food was great, the ambience cozy and the service was out of this world! We asked Grace why no one was in? She told us they are one of downtown Memphis best kept secrets but that the chef caters some pretty big local entities. Well, Memphis and those traveling thru, it's high time you know about this place! Extensive menu with sushi choices, hibachi, as well as other options for those seeking options. A refreshing soup option was the onion soup so I tried it and it was delicious. It was an onion broth with scallion, mushroom and tempura pieces. I did ask for extra ginger and the waitress really delivered, she brought a whole mini bowl extra, my favorite, I lastly tried onion tempura (great deal at less than $2). The first piece I tried was crunchy, hot, delicious. The remaining pieces were end/top of the onion and it looked like it still had dirt at the top. It turned me off to finishing the rest. Mixed feelings about this experience overall, probably won't return.
