I highly recommend Martinez Computer Consulting. On the personal side, my family and I were having hardware and networking issues that became intolerable. We had the tech folks from the big box store where we purchased our computers and networking devises come out 8 times, yes 8 times, and we still had significant problems. He's a genuine and honest tech repair guy which is SO hard to come by these days! seems like everyone these days is just trying to get a pretty penny out of anyone who needs servicing for some thing. What a lifesaver! I had an older Mac laptop with a processing speed that had gradually slowed to the pace of a snail over the years. Of course, I had many precious photos and other data stored on this computer. I cannot convey just how heavy this weighed on me, knowing that at any point I was poised to lose all my data. He did a diagnostic on my old -very old - computer and set up my new desktop and laptop. All along the way, he explained the options available to me (in a way that was understandable for me!) and gave his recommendation. I hired Mr. Martinez based upon a few good reviews I read in Next Door. However, since MY Computer needs were much more complex than those reviewed, I SENT DAVID A 7-PAGE WORD DOCUMENT, SPECIFYING ALL OF THE TASKS I NEEDED HIS HELP FOR. These included that: 1) I needed a to buy a new computer, 2 new monitors, plus an external CD read/write drive; and 2) I needed ALL of my 30+ Software programs now on Windows 7 transferred to my Windows 10 computer. I included that I had created personalized templates and start-up files for MANY of these programs (and even listed the file paths for each), and those also needed to be transferred to their proper location within each program. I understood that a FEW of my programs could may NOT work on Windows 10 at all, so those could be skipped. 3) I explained to David that I realized that this job was more extensive than what he was probably used to doing, so I asked him for an approximate price quote from him to accomplish these tasks. After I assumed he at least glanced through my needs in the document I sent, David responded that he estimated it would take 3-5 hours to accomplish ALL of my specified tasks. I expressed my concerns that this amount of time might not be enough to complete all the tasks. David responded "I have been doing this for 20 years. No problem getting this done. And IF it takes any longer than 5 hours to complete all the jobs, I will not charge you for any extra time." (He did end up charging me $500 for the 5 hours - but left leaving me with some critical problems by his mistakes, and without being close to finishing the tasks.) Before David started the job, I emailed him 3 times to verify that he understood everything I needed from my Word Document. His response was 'I am a Professional and know what I'm doing.' When I mentioned to David that I checked out two desktop computers on Amazon that had all the specifications I needed, David said all those on Amazon are just junk and old computers. He said he could build me a much better one. He gave me his estimate and I agreed. David started the job early April, 2023. My first impression was I was so surprised that, whenever he bent down, his pants came down also, revealing at least a 4" view of his bare behind. (I asked him "isn't it uncomfortable to have your pants down like that?" He pulled them up, but they moved down again regularly, and he didn't bother to pull them up again.) 7 HOURS LATER THAN DAY, he had so many problems and some mistakes that he had to completely redo, including: 1) Installing my new Outlook program on my EXTERNAL PASSPORT DRIVE by mistake rather than on my new computer - and then when he reinstalled it to MY computer, he mistakenly installed not only my current account, but also my old, unused for years account, splitting up my emails into 2 different sections depending on the date; 2) One critical mistake I did NOT REALIZE UNTIL HE LEFT SAYING HE IS THROUGH is WHEN HE RENAMED MY USER ACCOUNT WITH A NAME DIFFERENT THAN MY WIN7 COMPUTER, WHICH MEANT ALL OF MY PROGRAMS THAT LINKED TO MY USER'S NAME in Win 7 CANNOT BE COPIED to my new computer. Even worse, that now CANNOT BE CORRECTED and means I have to keep my old Win7 desktop just to correctly access my 200+ Big Fish game files and my iTunes Playlist folder file) 3) Windows 10 keeps saying my External cd drive "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED". I mentioned this to him a couple times and he never responded. 4) David did NOT TRANSFER ANY of my TEMPLATES OR START-UP files. HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY WERE! I was astounded and repeatedly asked him "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT YOU DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT TO DO WITH THESE WHEN YOU AGREED TO TRANSFER THEM?" He never responded and became antagonistic whenever he didn't know how to do something, saying it was MY FAULT! We both were clearly upset. When transfer after transfer did not work (many because of his renaming my user's name), he kept giving me long explanations why. In some cases, I knew those explanation were correct. But so many others I knew enough to know he was just making up the reason, so I kept having to interrupt him and say I knew those were not true. So, due to mistakes and other problems, since David's tasks to transfer my programs weren't even close to getting done, he finally agreed to come back in a few days when my new 2 monitors would be delivered. On April 12, David delivered and installed the monitors - then tried to fix at least some of the new problems. 7 HOURS LATER, IT JUST GOT WORSE AND WORSE WHILE I WAS DEVASTATED BY WATCHING HIM FAIL TO FIX AT LEAST SOME OF THEM! He left that day and said he was though and it is up to ME to FIX the problems. BUT I felt he should at least FIX HIS WRONG USER'S NAME MISTAKE so that I COULD FINISH THE TRANSFERS. So I emailed him.
