I love to browse at a Marshall's or a TJ Maxx but today, after I'd filled a shopping cart with goodies and finds, I turned my back to dig through men's sweaters. I turned back to find the cart gone. An unsympathetic employee told me a fellow employee had almost certainly taken the cart and returned everything to the shelves. No apology and no sympathy for my trouble. Evidently there's a strict policy to keep the aisles clear of abandoned carts. I had to remember what I had found and where I had found it to refill my cart. When I checked out and was recounting what had happened, the same employee walked up and made faces as if I was a troublemaker. No one likes a messy store but wow- I wasn't the villain here! Not as great as its sister store in this location, but when combined with it, it makes for a great shopping experience. It was kind of weird in this overall location. As you made your way upward, the stores got messier and less stocked with items. If you weren't able to find what you needed at TJ Maxx downstairs, head up here and maybe you will find what you are missing. They basically carry the same items and why not take the chance to stop in here. Overall, not a bad set up store. They appear to be organized, but not as well as downstairs. This store has a really impressive selection of clothes. My husband and I really enjoyed our time shopping here. What was extremely unenjoyable was the woman working the dressing room! She was impatient and intrusive. Every time I came out to show my husband something I tried on, she butted in, focused on and flustered about the number of clothes I still had in my dressing room. It's important to take one's job seriously, but she was so focused on keeping tabs on the clothes that I eventually decided it was not worth it to keep trying the things in my dressing room on. She really wore on my patience. I left with an amazing coat, so overall a success. But if you want to try on more than 10 items, good luck. read more

I had a pretty easy, breazy experience at this Marshalls. I needed to pick up a few towels and a couple of pillows, and I found everything that I was looking for. Although I found what I was looking for, I wish there was a bit more of a selection. However, I understand why there may not have been a huge selection because this location is somewhat smaller than others that I have visited over the years. I thought the organization of the store was fine (i.e., items were not thrown all over the place). A more than decent selection here at Marshalls in Ellsworth Place. It's a much smaller footprint than the usual standalone stores and that means that the merchandise is more tightly packed. It did not seem even slightly picked over. I managed to find clothing in my size (shocker!) and even found some at not-too-unreasonable prices. Sure, the "compare at $80" price tag is on there, but who actually compares at $80 when the real price is $24.99? Or $12? I opted for a shirt and a pair of shorts because it's hot out there. This Marshalls is a bit smaller than others I have been at but it offers all the same mech. The "teens" section is pretty expansive however the "woman's" section and shoe is definitely smaller than most Marshalls. Though smaller, I have to say that this store is cleaner. Often when I walk back to the furniture/home goods section of stores like these, I find that anything that can be broken - is broken. That is not the case at this Marshalls. The employees work hard at keeping the place tiddy and it is noticeable. You always see someone hard at work organizing the racks. They have some of my favorite brands like Lucky and North Face. For the hikers out there, they sell Darn Tough Socks and Smartwool (which are really nice hiking socks). Their furniture is a really nice selection of modern and unique. Recently they had a bunch of merchandise from India! They currently have a nice selection of Christmas decorations and gifts. The location is great, the mall of Silver Spring offers Marshalls, TJ Maxx and Ross each above each other just in case you didn't find what you were looking for. Today, I had an incident this Marshalls. I was using the fitting room, and after I finished, I handed pants to the guy working at the fitting room station. Unlikely, he said " wait on!! wait on!! You should hang your cloth back and give it to me!!" I looked at him and I said "I have Not heard about that ever in my life" The employee said " This is the rules in Silver Spring, and I do not know about any place else" I said "Ok, even though I have not heard about that. I will do it" (While I was hang the pants, the employee kept speaking unwisely) He said " you do Not know how to hang" I said " clam down man!!" " I know how to hang, but this is your job and what you get payed for as I know" " clam down!! Keep it down" The employee kept saying " you do not know how to hang clothes!! Then you should NOT COME TO US AND GO BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY" What kind of unprofessionalism Talk with the manager "Robert"! He did Nothing and Nothing! He could even let the employee apologize for what he said! I'm not mad about this bad employee but I am so upset about the Marshalls reaction to this situation. I used to love Marshalls. The clothes were organized by designers. Not at this location. It is like being in the clearance section of what was once Hecht's. Everything is crammed together. I didn't see very many well-known named brands, except for men's Ralph Lauren polo shirts. The prices aren't super great. You'll find nicer clothing in the clearance racks at Kohl's (Some stuff there is 70% off!). I did buy a tunic for $16.99. It has the colors I was looking for, but it isn't quality merchandise. However, my little pooch does love the squeaky pig I snagged for her for just $2.99. For that alone, it was worth the trip. read more

Unacceptable wait time for check out. There was an item I wanted that did not have a Marshall's barcode on it. At the line the cashier wanted me to wait until another associate performed a price check on it. I had several other items and asked if she could just check me out while I'm waiting on the price check. I had several items varying in size. When asked if I wanted another bag I did not realize that they placed them all in one huge bag. After handing me the bag I asked for a second one and the cashier said it would be 5 cents. I bought over $100 worth of items, waited on a price check that never came. They were not rude, they were cordial but to not be willing to provide a simple bag is Terrible customer service!!! read more

This is a decent urban Marshall's. Not big like the burbs but you'll find most of what you need. It was very organized for a Friday night close to closing. I love marshals. When I lived in Philadelphia I had one close to me and here I can walk out my door and be there. It's not the finest store in the world, it's not Saks fifth Avenue, nor is it Bloomingdale's. But I love the flea market aspect of shopping at your store. This marshalls is SMALL! They usually have good staff at the register but not enough at on the floor to get help. I never shop at the clothing section but I look for little odds end stuff at the sporting goods and household stuff. I usually find good deals! :) read more

I like this Marshall's. It's smaller (and thus more tightly packed) than other locations, but it'll do. I generally come here for shop for home goods - fitness items, decor, pet stuff, gift wrap, towels or sheets - and not clothing, and I rarely come looking for something for something specific. It's just a great place to browse and find random items at discount prices. I can't comment on the floor help as I've never asked for help, and the lines do get long and slow. But the best thing about this location is that several other discount stores (Ross, TJMaxx, Burlington) are at the same mall and thus if you can't find something at Marshall's, check another store. They all have similar stuff. Nice place to kill a few hours and find neat things at excellent prices. read more

No not a fan of Marshalls any of them so yes definitely some one sided bias on my part but this place is messy and has a dollar discount store look and feel. I don't see all of those so-called famous brand items just a lot of rumpled through, unknown labels. Sales people didn't look too happy walking around and they weren't even bothering to straighten anything up just leave it on the aisle who cares. Wife and I just happen to venture into here when at City Place one sunny after the snow storm day here in Silver Spring just to get around and try to do something I don't like City Place it was alright for a brief shinny moment when it first open back in the last century but now it's really run down and nothing left but super discount dollar stores and fly-by-night independent businesses with Marshalls being the anchor store. Really sad state this mall and it's reflect very much in this store cheap depress feeling and just plain messy. read more

I'm actually a fan of Marshalls and TJ Maxx, especially Homegoods, but this location is just terrible. Seriously. Awful. I do like the cookware/house stuff in the back, but other than that, ugh. Compared to the TJ Maxx near where I work, this Marshalls is A-OK. I'm not sure what people are expecting, ummm, it's a discount store, hello? But it's much better than the TJ Maxx in Friendship Heights (that place looks like a tornado rolled through it every single time I've stopped in). If you go later in the day, this Marshalls is gonna be kind of messy, but that is true of any Marshalls. The secret is to go on Saturday mornings right after they open, it's usually empty, and nice, clean, and organized. There's a decent selection of both mens and womens clothes. They also usually have a bunch of Yankee Candles, which makes my day :) read more

Poor quality service and goods. Today I went to Marshalls to purchase a bed sheet set. The set I selected had obviously been a returned item. It was opened refolded into the plastic packaging, but bolted back shut. I don't mind buying returned/refurbished items so long as it's in top condition. At the cash register, I asked the cashier if all the items (fitted and flat bed sheets and 2 pillow cases) where included. He assured me with great conviction that all returned items are thoroughly inspected, so there would be no missing items. To my great surprise (and temper), I later discovered that the set was missing 2 pillow cases! I shook both sets like a mad woman, hoping to find them. Alas, I got gipped. "All returns are thoroughly inspected"?! HA! I guess the inspection was so thorough that someone was able to "misplace" two pillow cases (i.e., steal them). Now I have to go out of my way to return this item. (Why should I have to inconvenience myself for their carelessness?? Can they at least refund my bus fare?) Lesson 1: stick to Target or TJMaxx. Lesson 2: Stealing items is easy at this location. Employees don't check returned merchandise. Lesson 3: Inspect ALL your items before leaving the store. Don't take the employee's word on it. Had I followed my instinct to open the package at the register, it would have saved me from disappointment and from wasting my time and money. read more

This Marshalls has a limited selection and apparently employees. The shoe selection doesn't have much. The linens and home goods are extremely limited. I wouldn't make a trip just to visit this store. I found a travel item in the clearance area. I had time to read "War & Peace" in the checkout line. read more

The associate at the Silver Spring location named Julia is a horrible example of an employee that should be representing the company. While at the checkout counter, I was trying to pay for two items with the digital card on the app and the associate and manager said we could not use it. This is one of the perks of having the card and your company promotes using the digital card however the manager also said we couldn't use it! This is beyond unacceptable! Also, the associate named "GiGi" kept talking about how she wanted to go home and that she would be leaving right at 7:00pm. She seemed extremely annoyed at every customer she helped. The manager that the associate called over is named Julia. She was rude and did not want to help us. This is complete false advertisement to say we can use the digital card but then when I try to use it, your whole store tells me that I can't. I know that is false because I've used it before. Please get Julia and GiGi some more training. Treating a customer like this should not be allowed on any terms. I will not return to this location. If you don't want customers to use the digital card then don't promote it. read more
