We came in on a fairly busy Saturday but we're still seated immediately. We had the hummus appetizer and it was very good. My boyfriend had the shawarma with I think beef and thought it was great. I had the moussaka which was just amazing. It had a flavor I've never had before but it was so delicious that I wanted even more after I finished it. We had baklava for dessert and that was really good as well, but for me nothing could compare to the moussaka. I will come back for more of that. Our server was very quick and pleasant as well. I give high marks for the owner to move in to the former Hooters building. The building went from Haram to Halal. The Moussaka hit the stop and way better than what is served in Greek restaurants. The Turkish Salad hit the spot with the right spices, but could have used Feta Cheese. In the Middle East the meat is usually dry, but it was juicy for Halal meats. The ambience had Turkish ornaments. Again I thank the owner for taking over the Hooters building and thanks goodness the Jacksonville NC Hooters went out of business. read more

They had socially distant tables set up, which were filling quickly even for lunch. Wanting to get a lay of the land, I ordered an appetizer sampler with pretty much everything I wanted. Hummus was creamy and came with a few fava beans on top, but I also got a separate portion of fava beans. I was a tad disappointed they were cold, but they had a bit of spice to them and were tasty enough. I got warmth from my tea with a mint leaf in it. The pita wasn't impressive; straight white bread that wasn't as flavorful as the best such breads, but the salad selection was respectable. That had some appealing-looking desserts too that I rather wish I'd tried after my other dessert plans didn't work out. For anyone stopping through the area-especially those looking for vegetarian/vegan food of variety and substance, this is certainly a worthwhile stop. read more

They are ok. I've been there 4 times in the past 7 years (the last 3 because coworkers and friends want to go there). Their hummus was ok, but the last time all I could taste was tahini. I've had a couple of their entrees, but every time it just weighed heavy in my stomach for hours . I don't know why that when I eat there, afterwards I always feel heavy in the stomach and unwell for hours afterwards. The taste of their entrees (that I had tried) was amazing! But I can't get past that it is always difficult to digest. I can eat the heck out of spicy Mexican food--the spicier the better! But when food just sits in your stomach for 4-5 hours, I don't understand why it only happens at this place. There's a new place at the Marine Corps exchange, Mediterranean food that is also delicious and feels like "clean eats." Their shawarma doesn't make you feel heavy and a bit ill for hours after eating it. read more

I only ordered the falafel. Not knowing what anything was on the menu, I ordered the only thing I've ever heard of. I cut one open and ate a small piece of it. It was a like raw and cornmeal and I could not even get it swallowed until I had a lot of my drink. I will not be going back. I am sorry that I didn't try some chicken or something else. This is a great find in the area! In the land of seafood, burgers and BBQ, finding a good Turkish/Mediterranean restaurant feels like finding hidden treasure! The ambiance was very nice with beautiful decorations that make this strip mall restaurant feel more like an experience. Our servers were very helpful and offered good suggestions (try the cauliflower appetizer!). The food was yummy! A good menu with lots of fresh salads, dips, and a decent entrée selection. The portions were on the smaller side but they do provide pita for the table and will refill as needed. We tried the appetizer sampler with falafel, grape leaves, a tahini salad and hummus; the labneh cheese dip, the cauliflower appetizer and a lamb/beef shawarma platter with tabouli salad. All tasted fresh and had great flavors/spices. Overall, great experience! Will be returning to try more delicious dishes. read more

To be honest I was in a bad mood when I came into the restaurant. I was dealing with a lot of stuff. I foolishly ordered a very spicy dish that was not for me. They took it back without question and then the owner or manager brought out a lamb dish for me and politely insisted I eat. I tried to refuse, saying I was too stressed to eat but he was passionate and confident that I would enjoy it. So I took a bite. Wow. It turned my entire day around and i ate every bite. It was delicious. I have heard good things about this restaurant from people and they were absolutely right. The big thing is you can tell the staff likes their jobs and are passionate about their food and their restaurant. The decor is really cool the tables have three benches instead of the traditional two which is cool The music is fun and not too loud and the food was FAST and DELICIOUS. Will be back again. The food here was phenomenal. Had the beef lamb shawarma. All the food and drinks came out in less than 5 minutes. Tzatziki sauce on the side. My server Savannah was great. Every dish was smothered in so much olive oil I feel like I just performed fellatio on John D Rockefeller. I feel like I could give a Swedish hot oil massage with what's left on my hands. We ordered the hummus - which was perfectly fine - but topped in ounces of oil. The Spanakopita was hyper greasy. How about the moussaka? Weird glops of eggplant and tomato paste swimming in an unappetizing and insane amount of oil. The cucumber salad /dip was topped with a crazy helping of oil. The felafel was super oily, too. Do they get a volume discount on oil or something? Look, I really want to pull for a place like this in a town like Jacksonville. It's a pretty good concept with a menu of salads/dips you get with entrees. There aren't a lot of Mediterranean options in town and this place would be serviceable with some better quality control. The service was decent and the atmosphere was pleasant. I'd say it worth a shot but maybe go with something like kebabs. I was always too busy to stop by and dine in before my retirement. I decided to take the family to Marrakesh this weekend and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food. Everything that we ordered was well prepared, plated nicely, and a joy to consume; I wished that I would have made the time before now! Service was a tad slow but that is to be expected when the lunch rush is over and dinner is yet to be served! Or serve was pleasant and despite having to look after 10 other tables made every effort on our behalf! I was a bit uncertain (despite the great reviews) when we pulled in and saw the darkened windows but as soon as we opened the door, we knew we made the right choice. We started with the Stuffed Grape Leaves and Falafel. Both were very good. My iced tea with the fresh mint was fantastic. We then had the Gyro with Red Cabbage Salad and Moussaka with Rice. I had the Shawarma with a side of Greek salad. The meat was tender and the salad fresh. One of my lunch companions had a Gyro, another the Moussaka with pita bread,and the 3rd the very petite lamb chops, and the 4th had a large Greek salad. Everyone enjoyed and two of us wish we had bigger portions. I won't say service was slow because everything is cooked fresh. This is our favorite restaurant in Jacksonville! The food is Mediterranean, (Greek, Israeli, Lebanese) fresh, well seasoned and delicious. There is a well stocked bar. The AMBIANCE is of Moroccan influence and very lavish They have redecorated and expanded since they opened several years ago. Marrakesh was really good, I'm really glad that we tried it. My friends and I got the Labne (like a creamy cream cheese) appetizer and the pita. It wasn't the best pita I've ever had, you could tell it wasn't fresh out of the oven, but it was pretty good. I got the hummus supreme combo with chicken Shawarma on top. I would've liked a little more flavor. It came with a side salad I got the Fatouch (mixed greens with sumac and crushed pita chips on top) it was delicious. This was by far the best part of meal.
