Had a small work dinner tonight with three people. Our server was attentive and friendly. I had the blackened beef tips and pasta. I could taste no blackening seasoning and the portion of meat in the pasta was incredible light. A colleague had the shrimp and grits and he said they were really good. My third colleague had the weekly special - pesto ziti. He said the meatballs were good, but the rest of the dish lacked flavor. The inside of the restaurant is divided into two with a large bar / lounge area that looked inviting. The dining side was comfortable, but dated. I used to work at this establishment and it was great to not only see some familiar faces but that the food is still spectacular as ever. My boyfriend loved the duck, the ahi tuna app, and for me the walnut citrus salad with an added piece of Salmon was delicious. This is a good restaurant for Jacksonville. We came for the comedy night. The food was decent. As for appetizers, I didn't care for the mash-tini (beef, gravy, and mashed potatoes in a martini glass) but I did like everything else. The seared tuna was great, and it makes me laugh that they serve it with an option for wooden chopsticks. My husband enjoyed his lamb chops and they did shrimp and grits well. Our server didn't know about the cocktails, and the menu could have provided more details (non-classic cocktails with zero explanation) so that was mildly annoying, but we were able to find the information. read more

Came after we went to wedding it was around 8 on a Sunday.. only few people so it was quiet.. sat in dining room at a booth with a beautiful duck stained glass picture .. our waitress and helpful told us specials. She never rushed us but was attentive. I had entree of seared tuna and very good adult beverage that I can't recall name of.. I think it was called girl with dragonfruit tattoo? We had a wonderful New Year's Day brunch at Ducks Grill and Bar with a group of four guests and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The food was absolutely delicious, creative, and thoughtfully prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Every dish felt fresh and well crafted. Our server was attentive, friendly, and very helpful without being intrusive. And the mimosas were amazing, easily some of the best we've had. I found some good reviews for the Duck at Ducks, so I decided to head here for dinner. I sat at the bar and was greeted right away. The bartender recommended the spinach with my Duck and sweet potato mash, so I went with it. Everything was luke warm to cold. I was really disappointed. However, she saw that I was struggling with the dish and asked if they could remake my dinner. I had skipped breakfast and was really hungry so I said no way. 5 stars with cold food, yes! Even cold the blueberry aujus was delightful on the crispy Duck. The spinach was perfectly wilted, flavorful and the sweet potato mash was very good. I could tell if everything had been warm/hot, I would have been extra happy. That means fresh, quality food. I always say I'll take good food and great service over great food and marginal service. The manager was advised of my cold meal and removed the charges. The only time worth going is Monday where they have cheap wings - which are actually good. There is one bartender/manager there who is completely rude, and will double charge people for no reason. I went there one night and got crème brûlée- which was decent, but I also got a Moscow mule and martini with a single shot of HOUSE vodka in both. She ended up charging me with double shots for both drinks which came out to be about $28 dollars for 2 drinks with crappy vodka. She is rude and doesn't like to serve. No smiles, no small-talk, won't check up on you, unless you put your empty glass to the bar, and ect. I wouldn't recommend going here unless you love feeling like a complete inconvenience. read more

Here's what you get at Duck's: a fancy side with shiny white tablecloths and a rustic duck-hunting vibe on the bar side which I prefer. I love the booths. The atmosphere was really fun as gobs of locals and Marines piled in to watch the World Cup. While the menu feels a bit overpriced, the food is good...some of the best you can find in Jacksonville. The wings were good and had a subtle difference from the millions of others I've had...almost as if the wings were marinated in smoky spices. The calamari was great served with a really authentic-tasting Italian marinara, but the portion size was relatively small compared to most places that serve calamari. The crab dip was our favorite -- super tasty! I'll try it with crostini next time. I'd be happy to hang out here with friends again. read more

Found this on Yelp on my way home from Wilmington and the lunch menu with Ahi tuna was calling me. The outside is 'meh', but given the reviews and photos I went on in and had a FABULOUS lunch! Inside is pub-like in dark woods and dark overall, but cozy. Lots of tvs in bar but not noisy. The hostess and the bartender,Rachel, were soooo polite, efficient and friendly. Lunch menu is large and offers so many choices including specials, salads, half sandwich & soup or salad, etc. I had the Ahi Tuna Melt. Wow! I thought I loved tuna melts, but who needs all that salad and mayonnaise when you could have Ahi tuna with tomato, bacon and cheese on nicely toasted wonderful rye bread. Just the right amount of everything and the tuna by itself was very fresh tasting. The side veg of the day was roasted giant asparagus. I wanted to order another side. This is one of my favorite watering holes in the 'Ville. I like the bar here. McKenzie is an amazing bartender. She is awesome. Great smile with a friendly greeting as someone approaches the bar. Jordan isn't bad either. Lol ;) For a bar, the ample amount of lighting in my opinion, not too dark just the right amount of lighting. Restrooms are (usually) clean, which is probably one of the most important things after food and service. I've had great things off the menu here...burgers, grilled steaks, chicken wingz...which brings me to the negative aspect of this comment, "Taco Tuesday." This used to be the place to go. It was always so delicious. The last time we went we got the crab dip and it used to come with bread now it comes with 5 pieces of pita think triangles. When we asked for more bread it would have been 2.50 for essential 1 pita. The waitress was absolutely atrocious. Rude would have been a compliment. The crab dip didn't even have the yummy Ness it was clumpy and weird. This was the second time we tried in 6 months the Brunch we had was absolutely awful as well and the all you can drink mimosa is a half glass and you have to walk to bar to get whatever juice you want. This restaurant/bar is Beautiful and Unique inside. Restaurant has very romantic cozy booths along with tables. The bar is very unique and upscale. The service was impeccable! The food is amazing. A Moment at Ducks Restaurant, Jacksonville - A Lesson in Grace and a Lack of Decency Last night, my husband and I had dinner at Ducks Restaurant in Jacksonville. Our waitress was incredible -- calm, poised, and deeply attentive. She gracefully took care of us without rushing, even while juggling a massive table of 18 guests, another couple, and a group of four women who arrived shortly after. From my seat, I had a full view of how masterfully she handled it all. The table of 18 -- well-dressed, older adults, likely in their 60s to 80s -- were chatting, reminiscing about how they met their spouses in cute ways. It was charming... at first. But when the check came, the tone shifted. There were small billing errors (easily understood with such a large group), which the waitress corrected promptly. Then the outrage started: they had been charged $2 per person for dessert plating, even though they brought their own desserts, plates, and silverware. The entitlement in their reaction was stunning. They demanded the manager. Not to calmly ask -- but to chastise. And what did the manager do? Stayed behind the bar, out of sight. Never approached the table. Never backed up their staff. As I watched the waitress try to stay composed, my heart broke. The group berated her, only to turn and offer insincere hugs, saying, "It's not your fault, sweetheart -- it's everyone else's." I could see her fighting back tears. I was doing the same. My husband put it perfectly: "People always say kids can be bullies, but some older adults think age gives them the right to say whatever they want." And he's right. That group owed that young woman an apology -- and so did the manager who failed to lead. A $2 plate fee is completely fair when bringing outside food into an establishment where you're still receiving service, cleanup, and seating. Shame on that group. And shame on that manager. Our server's name was Gabbi she was very knowledgeable and personable. . . We tried the wings with blue cheese as an appetizer. . . Flavorful and moist. . For entrees we had the duck breast with sweet potato and roasted carrots and the lamb chops with Parmesan Risotto. The choice of ambiance is totally up to the client, the booths on the bar side are comfortable and quaint the restaurant side is more upscale and so you make the choice. This establishment is very elegant. It's a great place for a date night anytime of the week. The food was great but not amazing. However they were very close to the 5 start rating. The staff was great and the service was speedy. The food came out surprisingly fast. The salmon was cooked perfectly as well as the roasted potatoes. But there was one thing that kept the place from getting 5 stars. The spinach was extremely salty. The salty spinach would throw the balance of I'd any dish. The potatoes nor the salmon could cut through the saltiness of the spinach. Overall, this establishment is worth the visit! read more
