( 2.5 stars rounded up) Now in a new, larger location in what must have been a chain restaurant building. Nicely decorated more toward Indian & Moroccan design. Large parking lot as the building sits in the front of a strip mall. Staff was very friendly. Service was very good but it was (maybe) 20% full on a Saturday night at 630. Marrakesh claims to be Mediterranean and they are somewhat correct. I consider Greek, Turkish, Italian to be more Mediterranean. OK, I'll give you Moroccan,, but no way Indian. India is in Asia. ( I know this sounds a little like bragging but I've eaten at many Greek & Turkish restaurants in my lifetime (high end to little, casual cafes), so for those who gave it 5 stars...they probably gave the Olive Garden 5 stars too) The menu is not big and has items from all the cuisines I mentioned above ( except Italy of course) The FOOD.... Apps --The Hummus was just pretty good. but the pita they served was dry like "store-bought". --The Grape Leaves (Rolled grape leaves stuffed with ground beef, parsley, and rice) were just OK too. --The Spanokopita; ( a Greek dish) a mixture of cooked spinach, feta cheese, and onion wrapped in phyllo dough.. was very good. Entrees --The Lamb Chops ( you get 4 of them) are the best bet here. Served with rice or salad. It may be the most expensive dish on the menu but well worth it. ( I did find it odd the server never asked how we wanted it cooked but they were juicy and delish) --I had the Three Meat Combo and choose three items: Chicken Tawook, Lamb, and Sheesh, served with rice and salad. All the meats were very dry. --Maqluba (Mediterranean rice casserole with a special blend of spices, chicken, cauliflower, carrots, and potatoes, served with salad) was tried by a few at our table. It's a huge portion of rice with stuff in it (it was very inexpensive at $16 but then again it was mostly rice) There was an item on the menu ( stuffed Cornish game hen) but they were sold out by 630pm on a Saturday night (odd). Desserts I found it odd that the menu only lists 2 desserts, yet when I asked there were approximately 5 more, including the currently popular Dubai chocolate cake or ice cream ( I forgot which but wish I chose it.) I'm glad I asked because our server never mentioned any specials. Warning: do NOT order the baklava. It was as dry as sand. Worst I ever had and I've had many. All in all the locals surely will like it because it is different and I doubt it has much competition. But if you are visiting and eat this type of food a lot back where you're from, buyer beware. read more

The 3 meat was also delicious but I think that the meat lovers was a better deal and feels like it could have fed 3-4! The service was also wonderful and the restaurant was really pretty. It took me a long time to finally try the food here - and I am a foodie that loves different kinds of cuisines, it's just that I would end up gravitating towards a different place. Howeverrr, I finally made it here and wow! Marrakesh quickly became one of my favorite places in Jacksonville. I dined here with some girlfriends for a Christmas gift exchange and we had a table in the back, tucked away from the hustle and bustle and I thought the privacy we got was so nice. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the full bar in the center of the dining room is so aesthetically pleasing. We started with the falafels which were so good and the labneh with pita bread which was even better, definitely my favorite appetizer of the night. I kept going back for more. I am usually a gyro girly but for my entree, I did the three meat platter (chicken tawook, sheesh and shawarma) with the yellow rice and cucumber salad. UGH, I am salivating as I write this. Everything was delicious but the tawook was hands down my favorite protein of the three. Reagan was our server and she is so sweet! She really knows how to take care of you. We have been dining here (old and new location) for a while now. We really love the new establishment. Such a great example of continued success for one of the best restaurants in Onslow County. The new place has a larger bar area and I believe a lot more seating and definitely better parking than before. Such a great vibe! The service here has always been excellent. Upon entering, this establishment was bursting with vibrant and stunning antique decor in every corner. Our bartender Jen was so kind and attentive, explaining any new or unfamiliar traditional dishes. I went for a small plate dining experience so I ordered a variety of appetizers because *try em all til ya try em all!* The baba ghanouj, falafel, tabouleh, cucumber salad, couscous salad, lollipop lamb chops, goat cheese with pita, spanakopita, grape leaves with ground beef... fantastic and bursting with rich flavor all around. We got overcharged? The prices on the menu did not match the prices on the receipt. This was very disappointing. I ordered a baklava for $3 off the menu and was charged $4. I asked for extra sauce because the beef shawarma was so dry and got charged for that without the waitress letting me know it was going to be an up charge. The 3 meat platter had 3 pieces of meat per the meat you chose. So a total of 9 chunks of meat for $23. The rice was really good and the appetizer we ordered the spinach sleeve was great as well. The olive oil was authentic olive oil which was a surprise. The baklava wasn't worth the $4 seemed a bit old and not fresh. Pros: Food was well seasoned & had lots of flavor, food came out fast, accurate order, good service. Marakesh in jacksonville is probably one of the few restaurants in the area where you can get fresh delicious food. The flavors are incredibly authentic and the menu is perfect for any palette. Portion sizes are decent! All of the waitresses at Marakesh seem to have been working here for a long time so you can expect great, knowledgeable service from the ladies. The ambiance isn't the best, it's pretty dim inside but the music isn't too loud or annoying. read more
