Well, I'm finally writing a review after several visits over the last couple years. Not sure why I haven't until now. Somewhat unassuming restaurant at a strip mall in Swansboro. As soon as you walk in you can see the kitchen and prep counter with the menu right above it. Order at the counter and pick up at the other end when your pager goes off. We kept it simple and ordered the lamb gyro, seasoned fries, drink, and hummus appetizer. We just had waters, but they offer wine, beer, sodas, bottled water, and some other drinks. Fairly simple, but good size menu with plenty of options. There are plenty of seating options with tables, booths, and outdoor tables as well. While we were waiting and eating there were several to go orders. Steady flow of customers in and out. They also have a great music selection! After a short wait our delicious gyros arrived. The presentation was nothing flashy, but good. The fires were seasoned just right for me, but a little too salty for the wife. The gyros were as expected, delicious and a good size for us. The hummus plate was actually larger than expected, but a nice surprise. There was enough naan for sure. I did not take any pics this time. Overall experience was excellent honestly. We'll definitely eat here again. I recommend giving Olea Mediterranean Kitchen a try. read more

I have frequented Olea over the years and it is some good Mediterranean food you can get at good prices. The inside is comfortable and spacious and you easily walk up and order at the counter. This place is absolutely delicious. If you're visiting Emerald Isle, Olea is totally worth the 15+ minute drive to Swansboro. This fast casual style Mediterranean restaurant is the perfect spot for post beach dinner. When you walk in the place smells incredible. Being Arab American, I adored that they were playing Arabic music there. You order up front and are given a buzzer for when your food is ready. We ordered the cauliflower to share (seasoned perfectly), the lamb gyro, and chicken shawarma. We went halfsies on the sandwiches which was an amazing way to try more things. As a Yelper I have to laugh at myself for not capturing photos of the sandwiches because they were so delicious I inhaled them. My friend's dad ordered a side of the cucumber salad which was so yummy too. It was a nice side to add on top of the sandwiches. There was plenty of seating available. We got a comfortable booth. The restroom is a single bathroom. The people who work here are also very kind. I highly recommend checking this place out. read more

This place was so fresh. Located in a little strip mall right off the main road in to Swansboro. There are tables and booths as well as some outdoor seating but you order at the counter and pick up there when it is ready. We needed some quick dinner but were not in the mood for "fast food" burgers and this was a great alternative. They even have a drive thru although we went in for our to go order. The servers were very nice and answered all our questions. Two in our party got lamb gyros and salads. Daughter went with a salmon wrap and I had a chicken shawarma wrap. Atmosphere was great and clean - nice young lady waited on us the best she could - she didn't speak English well and unfortunately, being our 1st time, we had questions she didn't understand any of my questions, so I stopped and we assumed the best. We appreciated the menu is marked items for Vegan/Vegetarian and Gluten free. Fatooch salad was dissappointing with thinly shredded lettuce, too few sliced cukes& tomato no radish or herbs at all, which is usually a main vege on that salad - it was oily and salty - but no flavor or dressing could be tasted or seen it did have a ton of croutons, though tasty, I'd rather have less of those and more veges and dressing - I didn't like it. Hummus/falafel combo - I'd rather ordered the falafel PLATTER but didn't realize it was an option until we examined the menu afterwards - because it has rice & salad. (Probably why the lady was confused when I asked for combo and salad - but she couldn't explain) I got the Fatooch to add to the combo and kept wishing I had rice. The Hummus was very bland, thin and way too oily - I couldn't eat it - my husband did, then had a stomach ache after. I did like they serve it warm. The falafel was mixed - we both liked the texture of them, moist but other than a little spicy aftertaste, the flavor was lacking - not great but okay had the other food been better. He had the falafel sandwich / fries - fries were fine other than everything, even my salad had paprika salt on it - too much!. Of what we ordered, the wrap was the best item. We usually go to Pita Plate, which is most superior in quality - we never have stomach ache after and always like the food. And they are most helpful with adjusting orders. Olea felt more like fast food - marginal quality food - good location and dining room. We'll might try again, and order something different but cannot recommend on this visit. The ambience is nice and feels like you're walking into a traditional home in Italy or Greece. The staff for welcoming and professional. Visiting the Swansboro area to take care of my aunt and wanted to try something new! Olea was fantastic! The staff is very friendly, welcoming and answers any questions you have about the menu. The vibe is very casual and has accessible seating and entry options which was a huge plus since people in my dining party are cane and walker users. Service was quick we had four meals and an appetizer out in about 15 minutes. The food was very tasty and the portions were very reasonable for the price. I had a salmon wrap, my mom had a chicken shawarma and my aunt and grandma had lamb gyros. Daughter came into town and asked if we could go back to the Greek place. This time we tried the Falafel Hummas combo, yummy. I had my regular, Chicken Tawook (so nice and spicy) and she had the Chicken Shawarma and she loved it. The flavors are so inviting. I also tried a hot Chia tea which was good. I was half way through my meal when I had to ask for my tea but the young man was very apologetic. It was different than I normally have. Mine usually comes with milk but this was clear. It was a cold night and perfect for warming me up. My daughter had a Cafe Mocha but said she has had better. This used to be my go to. I live in Wilmington NC and when in New Bern took the long way back to go here. Gyro fries and a drink. Gyros were huge, everything fresh, fries good portion and delicious. Last time I was there I had an off meal but it was busy so figured everyone has an off day. Went back today. Never again. Portions 1/2 of what they used to be. Quality way down. My fiance' had the lamb gyro and ordered a side of baba ghanoush. He's a chef himself, and sometimes hard to impress, but he absolutely had high praise for everything. True this place is diet friendly, however, $31 dollars for a meatless lamb gyro, fries and a salad is a bit much. The gyro had 2 paper thin(see through) slices of meat and a speck of yogurt sauce. The Greek salad was ok at best, the single piece of meat was good and for a salad to have no feta cheese should be criminal. Service was fine after they finished their conversation, they were able to take our order. Finding a table that had been cleaned was a challenge and god forbid they sweep/mop the floor. I now have something sticking to the bottom of my sneaker. They however they did smile a lot and the music was good. Came in super clutch after we tried River View Cafe (it was closed) and the Boro (an hour wait...with a hungry toddler? You do the math). Starving, grumpy, and tired, we stopped at Olea. WIN. Our food came out QUICK. Kiddo demolished her pizza and we had village fries, Kefta and Lamb Gyro, with 2 orders of dolmathes. Delicious. Ordered spanikopita and calamari because we were still hungry (long day at the beach) and those were amazing too. We used to go to a Greek place on the Swansboro bridge until Hurricane Florence wiped it out. This place is ten times better. We will be coming back for sure! read more
