plate of pizza and a plate of fries

The staff are patient, helpful and proficient! The food is the kind of food that will literally make your tastebuds sing! The first bite and I was hooked! They offer an array of different kinds of Greek cuisine that will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. It is outdoor seating, but they offered covered and open air seating- very roomy. You are treated like a friend when you visit here, like a home away from home.

Greek salad with kofta kebab - fabulous!

Tucked in among the live oaks at Spencer's Market, Helios' Hideaway is an island gem! You can eat at one of the tables at the market, or you can take your food back to your own place. We very much enjoyed the figgy pizza, crafted with island fruit - a tremendously balanced pie. We also enjoyed the Greek salad with a kofta kebab (ground lamb) and their signature dressing - verdant with green herbs and balanced acidity. We enjoyed our lunch with an iced tea from Moonraker, just across the market way. We have heard tell that Helios' breakfast is legendary, but didn't try it this time. On the strength of the two dishes we enjoyed, Helios' easily earns five stars. Can't wait to come back next summer!

    Figgy Pizza

My wife and I stopped here because we both like Greek and she is vegan, while I'm not. The menu I had seen before was actually more extensive than the current menu, due to Covid. At first, I was a little let down because I had planned out some platter with some sides or whatever. However, there was a sign for a "special" pizza next to the listed menu. It was for the figgy pizza. Normally I wouldn't really order pizza outside of the nyc/nj/ct area, but this wasn't trying to be a traditional pie. It had a balsamic tomato base, Gorgonzola cheese, fresh figs, thick crispy ham, spinach, and a drizzle of honey. It was absolutely fantastic and the best meal I've had on our trip (think bbq and seafood). I was so excited, I went to post this just ten minutes after having it. My wife got a falafel wrap and said that while lots of falafel she gets is quite dry not so, and she enjoyed it. There was a bit of a wait as I believe they were about to close, plus Covid, but would wait that time and more again to have that pizza.

I love this place. Such a refreshing change from the usual fried seafood. The salad was fresh . The staff were friendly.

As soon as you walk in you can see the kitchen and prep counter with the menu right above it. Order at the counter and pick up at the other end when your pager goes off. We kept it simple and ordered the lamb gyro, seasoned fries, drink, and hummus appetizer. We just had waters, but they offer wine, beer, sodas, bottled water, and some other drinks. Fairly simple, but good size menu with plenty of options. There are plenty of seating options with tables, booths, and outdoor tables as well. While we were waiting and eating there were several to go orders. Steady flow of customers in and out. They also have a great music selection! After a short wait our delicious gyros arrived. The presentation was nothing flashy, but good. The fires were seasoned just right for me, but a little too salty for the wife. The gyros were as expected, delicious and a good size for us. The hummus plate was actually larger than expected, but a nice surprise. There was enough naan for sure. I did not take any pics this time. Overall experience was excellent honestly. We'll definitely eat here again. I recommend giving Olea Mediterranean Kitchen a try.

We liked Olives so much, we dined here twice in the same week…read more I recently visited the Outer Banks for a week with my wife and we stayed in Manteo. Prior to arriving in town, I had made a reservation for dinner at Olives for later in the week. The day we arrived, after we unpacked and settled into our rental, we decided to take a walk to explore as we were staying in town. We happened to walk past Olives and decided to look at the menu - and that made us want to go there that night as we did not make any plans that evening and didn't want to get back in the car. I spoke with someone at the host stand and made a reservation for us. I figured I could cancel the reservation for later in the week after we had dinner. (Spoiler: We decided to keep the other reservation.) The food and the service were both excellent. The first night, I had the tri-tip souvlaki which was a special and my wife had the chicken souvlaki from the regular menu. We started with an order of the dolmas and they might be my new favorite. We both enjoyed our dinner and a nice booth with a view of the marina. We ordered a piece of the baklava to go. The second visit, we started with the hummus appetizer and I had the Keftedes and my wife ordered the gyro. The keftedes was so delicious with the tomato-based sauce. Luckily I had some pita to dip in that sauce. My wife enjoyed the gyro and I enjoyed the bite I got to try. The restaurant has a few greek wines on their menu but not a lot of selection. The restaurant is on the smaller side but they do have a few tables outside in the courtyard which in the nice weather is a good option and helps with capacity. I do recommend having a reservation, though. Everyone of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Topanga for giving us some great tips on places to visit in the OBX.
