Although the entree I had (a chicken pita) was very good, I am writing to highly recommend the homemade hummus, which is The Best I've ever had, hands down. With the homemade pita , it was simply divine. I eat a lot of hummus, and now I don't think I will ever look at a tub of store-bought ever again: no comparison. This was our first stop when we arrived in Ocracoke from the ferry - just in time for a late lunch. Delighted to find items on the menu for folks who try to eat plant-based! The felafel wrap with tsaziki sauce was delicious! Service was great and very helpful as we were making our selections. Tucked in among the live oaks at Spencer's Market, Helios' Hideaway is an island gem! You can eat at one of the tables at the market, or you can take your food back to your own place. We very much enjoyed the figgy pizza, crafted with island fruit - a tremendously balanced pie. We also enjoyed the Greek salad with a kofta kebab (ground lamb) and their signature dressing - verdant with green herbs and balanced acidity. We enjoyed our lunch with an iced tea from Moonraker, just across the market way. We have heard tell that Helios' breakfast is legendary, but didn't try it this time. On the strength of the two dishes we enjoyed, Helios' easily earns five stars. Can't wait to come back next summer! read more

My wife and I stopped here because we both like Greek and she is vegan, while I'm not. The menu I had seen before was actually more extensive than the current menu, due to Covid. At first, I was a little let down because I had planned out some platter with some sides or whatever. However, there was a sign for a "special" pizza next to the listed menu. It was for the figgy pizza. Normally I wouldn't really order pizza outside of the nyc/nj/ct area, but this wasn't trying to be a traditional pie. It had a balsamic tomato base, Gorgonzola cheese, fresh figs, thick crispy ham, spinach, and a drizzle of honey. It was absolutely fantastic and the best meal I've had on our trip (think bbq and seafood). I was so excited, I went to post this just ten minutes after having it. My wife got a falafel wrap and said that while lots of falafel she gets is quite dry not so, and she enjoyed it. There was a bit of a wait as I believe they were about to close, plus Covid, but would wait that time and more again to have that pizza. read more

Amazing food! Excellent vegan options and lighter fare. Park at Spencer's Market and walk towards the back cut through to find them. The owners are incredibly friendly, which is alway a bonus. If I could have I would have eaten here everyday. We went for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast biscuits 10/10, hummus 10/10, baklava 10/10 and pizza was amazing. This place is definitely a hidden gem. The food is amazing and the service was great! Can't wait to go back.

My friends and I stopped in here during the off season and were so happy it was open! The person at the counter was SO NICE and we had fun talking to them, and they even popped out to say goodbye as we were headed out from the outside seating :) the friendliest meant a lot to us but the food was so good we (not jokingly) considered taking more to go for dinner. We can't recommend it enough and it was very accommodating to our many dietary needs between us. We had plenty of options for vegan, gluten free, and a nut allergy. read more

I think I've left a few reviews for HH...but feel compelled each time I visit b/c it just keeps getting better (or maintaining what it already had). This visit I'll rave about the bread. I could live on their Pita and just may. Service is outstanding and despite being in a beach town I didn't feel any sand on the floor which is a good sign of how well they maintain the shop. All I can say is wow! This is a vegetarian's dream. There were so many options that my partner and I could barely decide what to get. I settled on a falafel platter with sides of baba ghanoush and grape leaves. The falafel was heavenly. I got both the tzatziki and tahini for dipping, and both were insanely flavorful. The pita bread is made in-house and you can tell. It is soft and doughy and always warm. It was perfect dipped in the banana ghanoush, which was fresh and seasoned perfectly. The grape leaves were authentic and tender. Also, so much food! For $9 I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day. The woman behind the counter (presumably the owner) was super sweet and friendly. This little gem is a must when you visit Ocracoke! Their Mediterranean food is absolutely delicious! They have an awesome , inexpensive, hot breakfast. I had a Greek pita with egg, spinach , olive and feta that was melt in your mouth good! Their hash browns are air fried , tasty and not greasy. Two of my favorite dishes are their spanakopita and their Helios salad with fresh, grilled shrimp and fig balsamic dressing. Their pork souvlaki is so delicious and their Greek potatoes are seasoned perfectly! You will love their baklava, really delicious! The couple that run the cafe are simply delightful and so friendly and welcoming ! Also, I appreciate their score of 100 from the Health Department !
