This is the place to see and be seen but if you don't care about that, then this place isn't that worth it, especially for the price.
Food and drink 3/5
The food was overall fine but nothing amazing compared to some other great Italian places in town. And considering how expensive everything is, I'm not sure I'd come back for the food alone. There is a lady with a bread basket going around giving you bread and cheese, but without any olive oil or balsamic. The bread was very dry and without olive oil or balsamic to dip it in, I took one bite and decided it was not worth the carbs. We got the meatballs and calamari to start, both of which were tasty, although the calamari was not fried like we expected. For entree, we got the vodka rigatoni, squid ink campanelle, veal Milanese, chicken parm, smoked duck, and lobster ravioli. The vodka rigatoni was so al dente it was almost undercooked and the veal was super dry. The duck was cooked well but not very flavorful. I did enjoy the squid ink campanelle, which was tasty and the pasta was cooked well. We liked both the desserts we got - the panna cotta and the tiramisu. I got one of the mocktails and while it tasted good, it is almost criminal to charge $15 for a mocktail. I do really like that they have half portions for the pasta.
Service 3/5
Our server was wonderful so it wasn't her fault, but getting our drinks was a mess. When we sat down, we ordered a wine, two mocktails, and an iced tea. The wine arrived very quickly, but it took another 15 minutes for the mocktail to arrive - one mocktail, without the other or the iced tea. Our server checked in with the bar again and after another 10 minutes or so, the second mocktail arrived. But still no sign of my friend's iced tea, which took another 10 minutes or so. My friend and I ordered the same mocktail, and he ordered a second one later on, and the mocktail tasted different every single time. Their bar really needs work. Towards the end of the dinner, my other friend asked for a refill of her iced tea, and was told they were out of iced tea, which I've never heard of before. At first we thought they were about to close so that's why they didn't bother making more iced tea but we then saw them seat a couple tables with newcomers. I feel like if they're still seating people, they could make another batch of iced tea. Our waitress was very apologetic and even comped our desserts and dessert drinks as an apology so that was appreciated. If she hadn't done that, my rating would prob be even lower.
Ambience 2.5/5
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and very gorgeously decorated. They also have live music at the front, which can be nice but also can be very annoying. My biggest annoyance with the ambience is that it is SO LOUD in the restaurant - partially because the live music was way too loud earlier in the evening and partially because they crammed way too many tables into the space they have so there are way too many people in the restaurant at one time. It doesn't help that the restaurant is enormous. We were sitting back near the wine cellar and the poor servers could barely get around the tables without knocking into chairs. Having a conversation in there is near impossible without semi-shouting. It got better later in the evening once people cleared out and the second singer who performed was much quieter. They should overall have fewer tables and also make sure their live musicians are not too loud. Although it's nice to have live music, it should be background music. I think most people going to dinner are expecting to have conversation with their family/friends rather than a concert, so it'd be nice to leave the restaurant without having shouted my throat hoarse.
Parking 2/5
They have valet, garage parking, and street parking. I was lucky enough to snag a spot on the street but my friends all either had to valet or park in the garage. The valet line was a mess and was causing traffic all the way down westheimer. But whatever you do, DO NOT PARK IN THE GARAGE. Marmo will validate valet but for some reason does not validate for the garage and it is $11 to park in there, which is ridiculous. My friend also said the machine in the garage wasn't working so he had to sit there for 5 minutes before an attendant came to let him out. This isn't necessarily Marmo's fault but definitely doesn't help the experience.
Overall a very mediocre experience. If they're gonna charge premium prices, they really need to up their game. That said, they're very new. I'd be willing to come back at some point and see if the food and noise issue have improved. read more
