I don't live in Seattle anymore, and it kills me because I have yet to find a replacement store in my life like Market Spice. In fact, I'm not sure one exists in the entire USA. I'm nearing the end of my stash for some of my Market Spice goodies and I am dreading the end. That said, I only go here for the bulk spices/tea. All of the other "stuff" can be found cheaper elsewhere, in my opinion. read more

We have been coming here for years and recently the past two visits have been not so great. Yesterday we went in to pick up some regular items we purchase and look at a few other items. My husband and I were standing at the counter as two girls spoke about their personal conversation and did not greet us or ask us if we had any questions. ( we were the only ones in the store at the time) After waiting a few minutes we decided to just get what we had and go. When we got to the register the girl was on her phone and didn't greet us so I just set my items on the counter and she grabs them saying nothing. She pushes over the card reader and from this point we decided not to tip. When she saw we did not tip her tone was very sharp she rips the receipt out of the printer and throws it straight in the trash. I was waiting for my receipt and she goes "did you want that" extremely snarky. My husband and I laughed and left but we will definitely not be back this used to be my favorite store to come too but it's definitely not welcoming anymore. The perennial tea shop down the road is great and the service is so wonderful! read more

Love this place! Like others, the cinnamon orange blend is to die for. It is not strong, like your typical tea, but light, sweet and delish. I also bought the healthy heart blend (no salt!) which is a multi-purpose seasoning. I found out that all the tea and spices are processed by hand.. meaning they actually mix the tea and spices together by hand, rather than by machinery. They have soooo many spices, 2 full walls of spices, to be exact. read more

I really like the fact that I can mispronounce a spice and they still know what I'm talking about. I like even more that they can tell me about the spices and make recommendations. Purchased a pestle and mortar to grind up all the beautiful spices I bought. read more

Love this place! Have been going here since I was a small child. My oldest one had never been here before. She didn't like the signature Tea but liked the iced tea??? We also stocked up on lots of spices and they made me a great blend of sugar and salt for my margarita's. There spice prices are great! I spent way to much $$ here but luckily I don't get down to the market that often anymore.... Everyone working there was helpful and friendly! read more

Awesome little shop in Pike Place Market with an amazing array of spices and teas. We get salmon rub here that makes our fresh salmon taste even better, and the prices are completely reasonable. We'll be back!! read more

Ok, this is the place known throughout the PNW for its teas that are a NW standard. BUT - This is an amazing spice market. Prices are really reasonable and the staff can help you with recommendations, and ideas on how to use all of the treasures within. Got a recommendation to go here...and she was spot on! read more

I was very excited over the massive assortment of teas they offer. We picked out several to take back home with us. I knock this one down a bit because a few of the teas I've tried from here just don't have the "punch" when brewed. It's like the flavor is muted, barely noticeable. I buy a lot of loose-leaf tea from other sources, and this source has had the most muted teas of all. You either use twice as much tea when brewing, or you just don't notice the flavor like the others out there. read more

Good place to get tea! I came here to get some chamomile for my dad and it was so cheap! Plus, the sample that they gave was also great.

Market Spice smells amazing. Good enough to turn my eyes blue and about that addictive, these teas make a great gift for people from afar. And the world famous Market Spice Tea makes a mighty fine apple cider. Delightful. read more

I remember Market Spice as being much larger than it really is, but that doesn't mean they don't have a lot to offer. The walls are 6 and 7 rows high with jars of loose tea, spices, chile pepper, salt, sugar, anything you can imagine. Even decorator's sugar in every color of the rainbow - get a teaspoon worth or a couple pounds if you like. Their signature tea is a bit fruity for me - heavy on orange and cinnamon, but it's good, I suppose, and it probably would taste great on a nice cold day. I've not tried any of the other tea blends, although they do have a couple of rooibus offerings in bags and pre-packed loose, plus I'm sure more available loose. This is a fun place to browse - if I lived in the area and needed spices or seasoning of almost any kind, I would definitely make this my stop. read more

These folks know their spice & their teas! I have come here both times I visited Seattle and bought spices here. They can answer questions about what spices will go best with different types of fish/poulty/essentially anything you can think of preparing. And the staff are very helpful. They make sure to explain things to you, including what would be the best deal (buying by the ounce instead of prepackaged). They have a website and offer online ordering for the convenience of out-of-towners like myself. I'm so happy about that! read more

How many MarketSpice does it take to screw in a lightbulb? 4. We were introduced to MarketSpice (I will never get used to there being no space there) through our walking food tour. We had a nice sample of tea, and ended up coming back here to try to find some tea to bring back home. Oo-de-lolly. Being in here on a weekend is like...being in a very crowded place that smells like tea...that was a poor analogy. But yes, it was crowded and cramped and almost overwhelming in its scent. And guess what? (I don't know why I'm making you guess I might as well just tell you. This isn't a game, people) We didn't buy any tea from here. We got MarketSpice tea, but we got it cheaper elsewhere and from less hectic stores. Thanks MarketSpice. Oooh, there isn't a space in MarketSpice because there isn't space in MarketSpice. I get it. I get it. read more

What an amazing spice shop! Market Spice has a huge variety and selection of spices and teas. Hopefully they will have the Ghost pepper powder soon mmm. I love the spicy curry and Italian mixes, they make what ever you're coking so yummy. It's always a struggle for me to get out of here with out spending a fortune on all the teas and spices. read more

Amazing tea selections at fair prices, I could spend hours here. Ended up with: Moroccan Mint (an amazing green tea), Knockout (which seriously will put me to sleep after a big mug of it), Licorice Spice (best cure for a sore throat), Peach Black (one of my favorites in the morning, especially when I make oatmeal with it), Yerba Mate (I had never had it other than Guayaki, I really like it). Also they have a whole other wall full of spices, I got some Provencal which makes my sauces and stews just the right amount of herbed savory. Next time I am there I will have to explore some more read more

Small tea shop tucked away in a corner of Pike Place Market (not a cafe). I had been living in Seattle for almost 10 years before I found this place. In my defense, I didn't really explore Pike Place Market much until I worked close by. I also didn't really drink tea until recently. In addition to carrying a large selection of tea, I guess they also have a wide array of spices (thus the name), such as Indonesian cinnamon, ghost chili and vanilla bean - all in powder form. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their signature tea. They always have free sample of their signature cinnamon orange spice tea inside. I hate cinnamon, but the cinnamon blends perfectly in this tea to create the perfect concoction of happiness in a cup. It is also naturally subtly sweet (from one of the oils, I once was told... don't recall what oil specifically). Whenever I go back to Seattle, I always make a trip here to replenish my cinnamon orange spice tea and bring a few bags for my tea lover friends back in the East Coast. I also like their Evening in Missoula tea & the Seattle Surprise. I like coming here with out-of-towners as part of the Pike Place Market trip. They always seem to be equally hooked on the signature tea right away too. read more

One of the newer staff members was so rude! There is hardly any space to wait so was squashed and she says don't get close to my customer ... as in I am not a customer myself? And had no courtesy to say sorry! The quality of the custom teas is deteriorating too for the cost we pay! Not worth it. read more

I was looking for a gift that is specifically made in Seattle so here it goes... First, I bought Fran's chocolate (see my other review) then the Market Spice black tea with cinnamon-orange flavor. To be honest, I like their teas (the back tea with cinnamon orange flavor) and pretty much thats it. I've observed that the customer service here is lacking. I know it's busy but the atmosphere is just not friendly. read more

I've loved their tea for years. I finally found their store in the Pike Place Market (walk past the fish tossers and into what looks like a dead end). They sell spices, loose leaf and bagged tea. I think they're a good store for people at all levels of tea snobbery. The store is usually packed and it's hard to move around without being in someone's way. read more

It is like walking into a spice laden dream...you could spend hours here smelling and tasting your way around the world and back. All of their spices are fresh and fragrant...they have something for everyone and then some. When you walk in the aroma hits you...it is a melange of smells and it somewhat envelops you. From spices, spice blends, teas, coffee - it is just a whirlwind of hits to the senses. Even if you aren't in the market for buying these products it is just a treat to spend some time in the store and find new and interesting ways to spice up your fodder. read more

I'm embarrassed by how long it took me to realize that the tea that they always have out for sampling, which I've always loved and made a beeline for, was something they offered for sale. And when you make it at home, it actually tastes as great as the samples! It was the first Cinnamon Orange black tea I've had, and it's still the best. The closest I've found is a blend of teas that Teavana also markets and offers as a sample in most of their stores, but I still prefer the Market Spice tea. Amazing tea aside, this is such a charming store and I wish I actually lived in Seattle. I stop in there any time I'm in Pike's Place market and have some extra moments, just because it's a window shopper's heaven (so much to look at and smell and pick up and dream of tasting!), and it'd be nice to actually buy more from them. I've tried their hot chocolates, which are actually pretty good. I quite like the chili hot chocolate. It doesn't have a huge punch to it, just enough of a kick to let you know there really is chili in there. I've also bought spices from here and they were affordable and of good quality. Perhaps it's a good thing I don't live in Seattle, because I would spend a lot of money here on teas, and spices, and all sorts of the delightful knick knacks that they sell. read more

This is such a wonderful spice store! We stopped here on a recent trip to Seattle and now I order my spices from them. If you are looking for some staple spices, you should try BBQ, Taco, Healthy Heart, Greek Seasoning and Herbs de Provence. They also have a DELICIOUS orange and cinnamon tea that is a terrific gift or something to snag for yourself. read more

Ah, MarketSpice. I'm so incredibly lucky to live so close to this shop! The cinnamon-orange tea is my favorite and I can't start my day without it. While there are a lot of orange/black teas sold by other companies, there is NOTHING like this tea. I'm not normally a big fan of black tea, but this tea is incredible. The combination of spices is perfect for a rainy day (or, if you're like me, every day). It smells and tastes wonderful, and it has a way of making you feel warm and content. Of course, this store sells more than the cinnamon-orange tea. The cinnamon-orange tea cookies are great too! They have a great variety of loose-leaf teas and bulk spices. They sell bagged teas too, but not in as big a quantity. They also sell coffee and tea accessories (I swoon over the beautiful teapots whenever I go in). The staff has always been incredibly helpful and friendly. They're a must if you're visiting Pike Place. read more

A superb place. Not just great products, but a fun place to hang out. Tons of spices, and teas. I could sit and smell the teas for an hour (and have). I found this on the suggestion of a friend and bought some tea. The tea is wonderful. My only complaint is the original market spice signature tea uses oils and wreaks havoc on my tea maker. I wish they would not use flavored oils. read more

I came here to get some loose tea and was recommended by my boyfriend to try their signature tea. They lose one star because they didn't have anymore samples to try and the guy said it would take 30mins to brew and it was excuse after excuse, he might as well should have told me he was lazy! I bought some tea posies which I also thought were pretty and the guy goes you do know how much these are? Duh!! I know how to read words and numbers... Those aren't the cheapest things, but they are a great addition to a bridal shower I'm planning! They should've lost one more star, but he redeemed himself by giving some great tips on tea bagging haha read more

Another tea place that I love! Feel free to open up the tea containers to smell them. I scored some High Mountain Green tea. Yum. I love me my green tea. But they have everything from whites, greens, blacks, roobios, fruity teas, herbal teas, and all different blends. In addition to teas, they have spices here (hence the name MarketSpice). I guess the chefs like to shop here and I could see why. Fresh and inexpensive spices. They have everything from saffron and salt to sugar sprinkles to curry powder to cinnamon sticks. Loved it all. We spent quite a bit of time there and still did not see everything. Besides teas and spices they also sell a lot of related items (such as a duck, robot, or monkey tea infusers, tea bags, tea tins, tea pots, tea cups, etc). On top of the great stuff that they sell, the employees here are wonderful. I asked them about a specific tea that they did not carry so instead they recommended a different tea shop a few blocks away. They could have said they didn't carry it and not sent me to a competitor, but they care about the customer! And when we were paying, the total came out to be an additional 7 cents which we didn't have so they took some from the little jar near the register to give us back even change. Such sweethearts here. I wish I had a MarketSpice closer to me! read more

A nice shop with lots of interesting smells in the middle of the crazy Seattle market. The staff was very friendly and seems to be knowledgeable about their spices and teas. I bought some hot chili powder, which I haven't tried yet. read more

If you are looking for tea, this is the right place! They have everything from every country! I love their black green tea and a rose tea but can't remember the name. I love how you can also decide the amount, 1/2 a pound of 4 pounds, it's up to you. read more

MarketSpice - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Seattle, Washington

See all

I haven't written a review in so long but I ended up loving this place so much that I had to take time out of my day to write and I'm wishing I bought more tea! I absolutely fell in love with the tea they had on sample the day I visited, which was the Cinnamon Orange tea which tasted just like a tea from my work known as "The Spice is Right". As an employee at DavidsTea, we ran out of stock for our equivalent (The Spice is Right) tea and I had to definitely bring some of this Cinnamon Orange tea back and have my coworkers try some and of course my coworkers loves the tea! I would love to return to the store next time I'm in Seattle but for now I guess I will be ordering by mail from San Francisco! In a city filled with coffee, this local tea business is truly a hidden gem! read more

Poor customer service - don't respond to email (sent 3 emails over the past few months). Purchased cinnamon orange tea for the third time and unfortunately this last batch of 2.5 lbs. is all cinnamon and no orange. The tea was stored according to instructions. Asked a friend who I've sent the tea to previously if she experienced the same issue. There is so much cinnamon flavoring that it burns. Ended up calling customer service after getting no response from email asking if there was a change to the ingredients and was told 'no', 'sorry' and 'do you want to buy orange oil'? Uh, no when shipping cost is $7.00 and the product is $2.95. read more

Of all the places we were introduced to on the Savor Seattle Food Tour, this is the one place we went back to. The cinnamon orange signature tea had this terrific sweet edge to it (even though it has no sugar), and it takes a lot better iced than hot. They have a great selection of herbs and spices, and the Healthy Heart house blend tastes delicious as either a sweet or savory spread. We also picked up some Salish smoked salt (which smells awesome), some matcha powder (called liquid jade and rightly so), some house tea and some taco seasoning. I vow to return. read more

I love Pike's Place Market, and this is the stop I refuse to miss each time we come. Market Spice Tea is a family favorite, and I have never been disappointed when bringing a bag home. I could spend hours going through this store smelling and tasting everything they offer. If you are looking for any kind of spice, they will have it. This is one store that makes Pike's Place a stand out about other Pier type markets. read more

very touristy and crowded during the day since this shop is right next to the fishmongers and the crowd watching them, but is worth the visit inside if you're at the market. We can order their teas online, but was great to go in and sample their cider and browse through their enormous selection. Market Spice, their signature tea, is my favorite. I received caffeinated and decaffeinated varieties of this as a gift and they remain my favorite. Perfect sweet/spice blend. This place is a must-stop if you're doing a food tour of the market. Price is better than the grocery stores. read more

Sniff sniff sniff...if you're a foodie and love cooking too...you must go to Market Spice! I have never been to a spice market and can't believe what I've been missing! I went to Pike's Place to explore when I was in town for work and I walked into Market Spice and felt like it was my birthday! And no you can't just buy one spice...don't even try. They let you taste, smell, and give you great tips and history about some of their spices. All spices were incredibly cheap compared to buying a bottle of them here and there. You can create your own blends and rubs...what an amazing shop. Unfortunately, I was in awe of the the spices alone but I heard that their teas are amazing as well. There are rare spices and teas to be found here... so start sniffing! Recommended spices: Harissa Market Spice All-purpose blend BBQ Spice Mix *Have sealed spice jars/containers ready for your spices because they are potent! I have already tried them all with chicken and they are delicious! Enjoy! :) read more

The place is a cook or baker's dream. Very fresh imported spices at reasonable prices (eight varieties of paprika - can you stand it?). Prices excellent compared to grocery stores' stale product and you only buy fresh what you need. The tea selection was a delightful surprise. The house Thai tea blend was magnificent with scent of cardamom and anise pods. We purchased a pound and sent it to our sister-in-law (a Thai native) and she raved about it. Our local guides did a lot of purchasing here as well. Highly recommended. read more

My favorite teas there so far: - Emerald Surprise - Earl Gray Emerald Surprise is a green tea with pineapple, and is DELICIOUS with a teaspoon or so of coconut oil in it. Service is always great there--functionally great, anyhow. Some of their employees aren't particularly warm, but I suppose that's not a requirement, but definitely a perk. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because the store is SO cramped. It's a little difficult to navigate with a backpack or purse/satchel. I get its a small space, but either have less product. Or figure out a way to utilize a little more vertical space to allow for more floor/navigation space. I keep a solid stash of MarketSpice teas in my desk at work at all times. I basically thrive on their product Monday - Friday. read more

Nice service! I only bought a packet of their cinnamon orange tea. Pretty good; I normally don't like cinnamon that much, but brewed lightly the tea was great! Apparently they also ship out-of-state. read more

If you like loose-leaf tea, go here. I was drawn in initially by the smell of their spices, but I discovered the tea wall in the back by accident (a happy one, might I add). I had to limit myself to 4 different types, but I fully intend on buying more from their online stores in the future. I bought: Lemon Berry Sage Ambrosia Peach Black Knockout Banana Zing The last one was actually incredibly good. I was a little turned off by the idea, but it smells like banana bread when brewing and has a very light taste. The employees are very helpful and polite. They also give really excellent recommendations (I'm not a huge fan of herbal teas, but Knockout has proven to be one of my favorites). read more
