I don't usually write reviews but this experience was just beyond. I've been to Tenzing many times for various supplies but yesterday when I came in I was also given so much support. I recently sprained my ankle and the woman who was working there helped me find the right kind of pain relief as well as some aromatherapy. I asked so many crazy seeming questions and she was so patient, kind, and thoughtful. Not only did I feel better today but right after I walked out the door. It just felt healing to be able to have her attentive and kind assistance. Tenzing always brings me some sort of peace but yesterday I feel like I was somehow healed. So grateful! Wonderful apothecary spot in Seattle tucked away at the pike place market. They have a huge selection of herbs, tinctures and books. I picked up some tea for the grandparents to try. The owners were nice and helpful, very knowledgeable about herbs and mixh more apothecary healing. I have been going to Tenzing Momo for more years than I want to admit to being old :) I love this place. Anytime I am at the market I stop by to restock incense and essential oils. Staff is always amazing. The store may be small but there is so much to see. If your in the area I highly recommend swinging by, you may be surprised by what you find. read more

Although it's in the middle of Pike Place and can be a little crowded at times, I do like this business because they carry the kinds of incense, oils, books, etc that I enjoy. Walking into Tenzing Momo, feels like a total cleansing of the mind and spirit. While it has a slight 60s feel to it, it's so much more! They are the sister company to market spice, but their focus is more on cleansing, and herbal teas etc. that are for healing, health benefits, and so much more. Looking to cleanse your space? They have a variety of sage and other items that have become a more common practice for many people. They of course have incense and other items that make you want to dab on some patchouly, and put on your Kaftan, while wearing daisy's in your hair. Do it for the fun of it! Do it for the hell of it! Do it, because why not? I walked into Tenzing Momo on the recommendation of the market space staff, when I told them that I was looking for a tea that would help with inflammation etc. Tenzing was the perfect place to find it. The gentleman that helped me, knew exactly what I needed, and absolutely was not pushy about selling me that or anything else. I actually would've liked a little push, or more information. He was just super laid-back and was not as engaged as I would have preferred. But nonetheless, I still walked out happy with my purchase. This is a great place to get your essential oils and natural remedies etc . I also love the intention candles and prayer beads. This is the go to spot if you want to start your spiritual journey. They have a variety of tarot decks to choose from and a lot of great books. I just wish this spot was a little bit bigger but I love that it's a tucked away spot from the outside. Went in on a friend's recommendation to find some bee pollen for a recipe. Asked the guy behind the counter if they carried it and wow, not sure I've ever been condescended to quite so much. He said they didn't carry it and when I asked if he knew of anywhere that did, he said no, "everyone just wildcrafts that" in a decidedly dismissive tone the way someone might tell you "the sky is blue, duh!" This was a while ago, hopefully that guy isn't there anymore, but that was a pretty crappy first experience and I doubt expect to go back anytime soon. read more

Tenzing Momo is a store I had never been to before. It's like a backdrop to what you see in a movie scene where someone's out looking for sage to get the ghost out of their house. A great little stop located within Pike Place. Yep it smells like incense and herbs right from the get go. Here you'll find all sorts of items such as herbs, teas, tinctures, incense, some reading material, and many other products. The highlight for me, was having my own customized tea made, since I could not find what I was looking for with the pre-packaged ones. Behind the counter there are huge jars filled with various herbs and I very much enjoyed seeing the clerk mix all of them together in a large wooden bowl while she explained the benefits of the tea. She mixed in some Alfalfa, Oatstraw, Nettle, Raspberry Leaf, and red clover. For about $8 or $9, I got a good amount of herbs for my tea. It also looked much more interesting all together and not just a measely tea bag. So far I've been boiling it all together leaving it soaking during the night, and straining it. I find it makes a wonderful, fragrant tea and you make the most out of your herbs this way, because otherwise you end up with a very bland, pale water looking tea. You'll find lots of great items if you're into herbal remedies and that sort of thing. If you're not, it's still a neat shop to go into, even if it's to admire their large wall full of herbs and tinctures. read more

Ummmmmm the essence of a good fragrance... It's amazing how just by catching the whiff of something you are transported back to a place or in my case remind me of Thomas Jefferson. He went to this place in November of 09 and picked up several items including "Rain" an essential oil. It is his signature scent. Well I noticed he was running low so I ordered online... after not receiving any confirmation from the site I called this place up and Customer Service was OUTSTANDING they assisted me with my order number and shipment date, also made some suggestions for other items as well. Thomas Jefferson had made a comment about seeing some sort of postcard of an earlier picture of the African American Author Alice Walker (Color Purple) that he really liked so I inquired if they still had it. Unfortunately they didn't but they did put some effort into looking. LOL The scent that he gets is long lasting fresh, clean, slightly musky in other words SEXY AS HELL!!! :) -- okay so yea I have the empty bottle at home and every once in a while if I miss him I smell the bottle... LAME yes this I know :) but the point is the fragrance is still there. First...there is no way to contact them except by phone. No one answers. After it rings about twenty times, a robot says..."Please, enter your access code.". No email is listed on their site. WTF? A phone number that goes to The Bermuda Triangle! Second I waded through their cumbersome e-commerce regimen and was able to order a 1 oz. bottle of Sinus Blaster. 28 bucks! I decided to blast my sinuses and pressed the squirter several times. Nothing. In the sqirter, there's no hole through which to administer the blaster concoction!?! Exponential WTF!!! Once you've reached your destination you will see that although it is small in size, Tenzing Momo still has an alluring charm that feels both welcoming and extraordinary to the weary Pike Place Market traveler. As you enter you will see that they have packed this place with a wide variety of items appealing to both the main stream shopper and to the more adventurous of us. On my last trip here I was looking for some incense, oils and a sage smudge which I was happy to find. If you've been to any of the Asian herbal medicine places in Seattle you'll notice this place is different. This place has more of a variety of things. You'll find, candles, oils, herbs, teas, incense, statues, jewelry, tinctures, crystals, prayer flags, tarot cards, Tibetan singing bowls, cards and lots more. For a small shop, I met several other patrons who like me were outgoing and we started up a conversation with several people joining in. How fascinating to have a white witch shopping for herbs to be used in a spell, an older hippie buying some oils, a fellow Buddhist like myself looking at the incense and a tourist from Switzerland who stumbled in and thought this was the best shop in Pike Place. He had just had a Tarot reading done and was browsing. There aren't many places like Tenzing Momo in the Seattle metro area. It is good to stop in and check this place out. This is the kind of place I go into and actually take my time browsing. The staff are very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions you might have. If needed they also can look stuff up in some of the reference books they have in the shop. I have incense from around the globe and I'm always looking for more. It's nice to find types I have not tried before and burn as an offering or during meditation. The difference between buying incense at a shop verses online is you get an opportunity to smell them. I'm sure a lot of people who purchase Tibetan incense don't know that it's generally very "earthy" when compared to Indian incense which has more of a "perfume" smell to it. In the tourist driven landscape of Pikes Place, I stumbled into a shop that was authentic with its base product and reading offerings, kitschy (in a spiritual new age way) with lots of trinkets and small gift items, and also held a specific aura of history (it was a feeling!). I let my curiosity run and my self love directed me to several stones, tarot cards, new incense, and my favorite new root chakra oil. The help behind the counter taught me about loose incense and charcoal lighting, so I purchased some favorite smells and left this little shop with optimism and serene joy all bundled in my little bag! Are you running dangerously low on patchouli oil? Do you need some incense to cleanse the bad juju? Then this is your place! Tucked in the corner of Pike Market, this place specializes in essential oils, spices and all sorts of eastern mystical accoutremants. They have all sorts of tibetan knick knacks, prayer beads, bracelets etc. I came here to find some true cinnamon stick which can only be found in specialty stores, unlike its cassia cinnamon cousin which is the stuff you find powdered in grocery stores...but i digress.. The prices here were pretty reasonable and cheaper than another spice place down the road (one ounce of true cinnamon stick for $2.50). Considering how the stuff lasts for months a pretty good bargain. The store is a little bit cramped but the staff seems to be very helpful and sincere. read more

I've been coming to this shop for a pretty long time for incense and herbs but the thing that annoys me about them is the fact that they force you to buy 1 oz of herbs unless they are more that $2 and they have these odd old scales that don't let them measure more than 1/2 oz. i visited tenzing momo looking for an oil replacement after the bay area company i've used for 30+ years went out of business in the spring. there are so many essences, i think someone would be hard pressed to. or find something they like however of the two i purchased and came away with, i definitely like one more. neither have the long lasting scent that my old one did; by the end of the day you can no longer smell it. if you're looking for a perfume or oil, i'd definitely recommend going to check out the options. it can become overwhelming to smell so many so consider buying more than one because once you're home and able to smell the ones you identified as your favorites, they can smell a bit different than when you had multiple smells competing for your attention in the store itself. tenzing momo is a seattle/pike place market institution so even if you're not looking for anything, you should stop in to see all the amazing items they sell. herbs, potions, teas, oils, cbd products, tibetan and indian flags and prayer items. for those inexperienced in what that area of the world is like, this place is an educational opportunity. the employees were friendly when i was in and while i've come to terms with the fact there probably won't be any exact replacement for my scented oil i can wrap my mind around using some of the ones i bought here as reasonable substitutes. read more

When I was an uninsured/broke girl with a nasty bout of strep throat, I stumbled my way into Tenzing Momo and pathetically asked for something.. anything.. to fight strep. The knowledgeable and empathetic man behind the counter recommended a dropper bottle of Tenzing Momo's super potent Bee Propolis. I won't go into how amazing Propolis is (go look up some fancy studies on Medline), but I *will* say, after subsequent years of using it religiously, Tenzing Momo's is the most pure (as in, not a totally watered down grain alcohol tincture) and has the most bang for your bucks. (I think it's at $12 now.) Aside from trusting them with colds, flus, viruses, "ladytroubles" (okay, I really just wanted an excuse to try "cramp bark". Cramp bark!) and sundry medical ailments, I prefer them for oils, that herbally green ayurvedic soap (I don't know what it does for doshas, but it makes hands smell amazing), and Purple Mountain Majesty Tea (it's as epic as its name). Oh, they usually have dry Morning Glory Chai, too. I've always had excellent experiences with their welcoming staff - important in such tight quarters - and their online customer service has been stellar as well. I love them so much, I continued to buy from them during my six years back East (and Southeast), but I'm glad to be able to go in person now (as it doubles as an excuse to go get those teeny hot donuts in the market on my way out!). read more

I've been going to Tenzing Momo for Items Of Spiritual Grooviness (which could be anything from thangkas to tarot cards) for the past 20 years. They used to sell the bones and skulls of Buddhist monks, but I guess somebody put the kybosh on that somewhere along the way. It was nice while it lasted, though. I wish I would've bought one of those thigh-bone trumpets while they had 'em in stock. God knows it would come in handy at the office. Best feature: it smells great. Do a lot of breathing when you're there. Incidentally, "tenzing" means ocean, and "momo" is a kind of Tibetan fry bread. Feel free to attach as much or as little meaning to that as you like. read more

Fun fact! You get a free reusable tote bag when you spend $100 or more at Tenzing Momo. And should you decide one day "Hey, I could make my own fragrance with essential oils!" then you will most definitely be spending a good amount of time (and money) at this shop. Tenzing Momo sells essential oils that you won't find anywhere else around town, such as wormwood (blends beautifully with cinnamon) and essential vanilla (although I suspect it's a bourbon dilution of an absolute). Their musk is derived from plants so, fret you not about buying a bottle for your adventures in perfumery. Talk with the staff if you are looking for a specific oil that Tenzing doesn't carry. It's okay, they won't bite. It's also how you learn to blend ylang-ylang with vanilla to produce a note closely resembling lotus. I won't say how many essential oils I had to buy to finally achieve the desired fragrance I was looking for, but I will say that reusable tote is damn handy. read more

The people that work here have been extremely rude to me every time I visit. I'm not sure if its just something about me that they don't like or if they just can't be bothered to take my money. The only reason they get that extra star is the product selection. I keep coming back because I kindle a bit of hope every time that they won't behave like disapproving statuary with looks more bitter than only the most hardened and cynical barista.
