Sean the store manager was very friendly and informative about the products, formulation, sourcing, and skincare. Even during peak hours when the market was crowded shoulder to shoulder, he was so patient with my friend and I. I was fascinated with their lotion bar and I've been wanting one to use as a body moisturizer + massager. That should give you an idea of how high an opinion she has of Moon Valley Organics (MVO), and it's hard to argue with that enthusiasm. Based (and made from products herb-farmed) 20 miles east of my hometown of Bellingham (in Deming, to be exact), MVO is best known for its enormous corner stand on the main floor of the market. Unlike many vendors, MVO is a substantial, well-established company instead of one of the many one-person vendors. MVO's herbal skincare products have primarily a threefold focus: Cleansing (soaps, both bars and liquids), Moisturizing (lip balms, lotion bars), and Healing (body rubs, salves, and balms). And they hit home runs in all areas. The great thing about the Pike Place location is their are plenty of testers (and they'll let you try almost anything else out): Their Moon Melt lotion, lotion bars, lotions, balms, their herbal EczaCalm ointments, and several others. You can even taste the fresh wildflower and berry honeys that come off their farm. Their prices are a bit high for my taste, but, man the quality is high. I bought the $25 gift pack; it included The lotion bar( it smells so good), vanilla lip balm ( goes on smooth and it is not greasy on the lips), and the Rejuvenating Rub with Arnica (GOD-send). I came here as a tourist a few days ago. I like handmade soaps, so I bought ONE $6 bar of soap. I wanted to pay cash because it is just ONE $6 bar of soap, but was informed that I would need to pay with credit cards. With tax it came out to $6.60. $6.60 is a lot for a bar of soap but I like to buy an occasional fancy soap as a treat, especially while traveling. I always am weary of paying with credit cards at small independent kiosk type shops, and my weariness proved right. Today my credit card bill shows that I was charged $13.20. This means I was charged for 2 bars of soap and not one. Don't trust your credit card here. They don't take cash, so don't even bother shopping. It's a mistake that cost me only $6.60 but if they made that mistake on me with a small purchase, how can you trust them to not make a mistake with a big transaction that costs $200? This brings bad imagery to small businesses that work hard to hustle and succeed with honesty and integrity. I will call the vendor tomorrow. I am disappointed and frustrated. $6.60 isn't a lot of money, but it's enough to make me kick myself for spending money here and not walking away and saying "no thank you" when I was informed that no cash is ak Yes I got my money back speedily! First time stopped by and the guy is nice enough to explain and offered discount when I bought multiple items. But whatever I bought here were taken away by TSA in the airport due to exceeding maximum 3.4 oz. Wasted more than 100 bucks and time being held for inspection. I wouldn't recommend this place for someone who may fly back. For the owner, really recommend that you read this review and learn what you can do to avoid this matter. Stopped by while walking through Pike's Place market, and didn't want to leave! Their soaps are amazing (the lavender+piney forest scents are my favorites) and the chapsticks are super moisturizing. And they donate 10% of the profits to saving the bees, which is awesome! The employee we worked with was such a treat, letting us test tons of scents and different products. She even threw in two free chapsticks after we'd checked out, since we seemed interested. They also had a BOGO deal on pounds of soap ($16 for 2 pounds) when we were there, which was cool. Just got back from Seattle but not before I ran into these amazing products. The lotion bar is my favorite, I wash my hands a lot at work and it dries out my hands terribly. I've tried so many healing lotions and creams but come to realize they don't last all day. Even before I knew the name of this kiosk, I have been involuntarily drawn to it over the years. It's hard to resist the call of beautifully arranged products that are open for sampling. I usually go here for the soaps and lotions. My favorite is the lotion bar that sits on the counter in various places, unassumingly welcoming people to try it. Yes, lotion. In a bar. It provides good coverage and moisturizes without being greasy. In addition to the lotion bar, there are any number of yummy soaps. For someone like me with tons of sensitive skin problems, having a natural, organic cream for eczema is a dream! You can buy single products, pre-made gift packs, or even build your own custom pack. As others have mentioned, the lip balm is fantastic! In addition to skin treatments, you can pick up honeycombs there. Yum! Also for sale are jars of honey just in case you can't get enough. Customer service has always been good; however, they can get busy so you may have to be patient when one person is working. read more

The first installment in my ongoing love affair with Pike Place Market. I could go on and on about how it's the pinnacle of the urban marketplace experience, but I won't. I'm here to talk about Moon Valley. Specifically, Moon Valley is in the bee business. They make honey. In a few flavors, but I find Fireweed to be the best one. Also, because I'm an ignorant slut, I had no idea what Fireweed was. The nice lady behind the counter (they also specialize in young sexy hippies, apparently) was kind enough to inform me that Fireweed is a bright red/pink flower; the first thing to grow in the burned area after a forest fire. (Also, I later learned, the first wildflower to grow after glaciers have scraped a mountain down to its rock face.) That is extremely cool, so I bought some fireweed honey. And it is delicious. And it comes in a honeybear. But not a shitty plastic bear. It comes in a glass honeybear. It's pretty much a collectible, actually. They also have many other things that they make from the byproducts of the bee/honey lifestyle. Like balms made from beeswax. One, called "Wound Aid" is probably a total hippie scam, but I swear it totally makes me heal faster. Speaking of the healing properties of bee waste, I went to buy a bag of bee pollen (because that shit definitely works - take it every day and watch your allergies run screaming) and she actually talked me out of it! Apparently the anti-allergy properties work mostly when it comes from local bees, which makes perfect sense because they're snacking on the same flora that's making you sneeze. So she directed me to my local farmers' market for some more targeted allergy relief. If that's not cool, I don't know what is. read more

I have been coming here for the past five years while living in Bellingham to pick up the Fireweed honey. Now that I live in Belltown I can walk right over to Pike Place and pick this up as well as order for my friends back in Bellingham. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff (especially Kimberley!) and great products. Fireweed holds a special place in my heart as I am obsessed with PNW logging history and I can't even begin to describe how beautiful it is to see a timber unit that was replanted 10-20 years ago in the Spring. The Fireweed is truly a great addition to an already beautiful landscape and now I can have a piece of that with me in the city. I love honey. Love love love love it. I love the smell, the taste, the everything about honey. So of course I stopped dead in my tracks at this booth at the Market. I tried the lotion bar, and was instantly swooning. Instantly. My skin became super soft, and had a wonderful honey like smell that was amazing. SOLD. The delightful salesgirl also showed us the body heal that smelled like lavender... but when she showed us the muscle rub that can help with sore muscles.... SOLD. I got the gift pack for myself that was the lotion bar, a muscle rub, and some lip balm for a bit over 20 bucks and was a happy girl. Next time I will buy that fireweed honey too. As for that muscle rub.... the cayenne in it worked wonders on my sore shoulder when it was tested out. This honey lover loves Moon Valley! read more

The customer service is rude, disrespectful, and terribly unprofessional given the very popular venue and the high number of customers they engage with daily. It appears the sentiments I feel toward this company are not unique on Yelp. As an inquisitive, potential first-time customer, I sampled three of their test products to see what interested me most. I was set on coming home with a jar of honey today but was attracted to one other product as well. After three minutes of browsing and sampling those products, I was confronted by a long-haired brunette with a purchase-ending attitude: "Well, after all of that, are you going to buy something?" What, sampling three possible purchase items? Absolutely not. And I never will, nor will my family, friends, coworkers, or any of my visitors that come to the city. Customer service isn't rocket science and--more importantly--neither is kindness. If you're looking to build a following of loyal customers, treat all potential customers with so much respect that they wouldn't possibly want to walk away from your stand without one of your products in hand. An opportunity to do that today was wasted by a woman with terrible customer service skills and a horrible attitude. It's so powerful how bad customer service at one company benefits its competitors so greatly. read more

This is a must visit place. Christina is amazing and customer service. She has only been here a few months and it's like she's been selling this stuff for a long time. She explained everything so well and had a lot of energy and confidence in the products. Told us about the specials and what she used things on. Of the 3 similar looking bars (Lotion, Baby Bum, and Tummy), I was in the market for a tummy bar to help ward against the dreaded itchy skin and stretch-marks of pregnancy. The Tummy bar is downright scary- it is the shape of a pregnant woman's torso- no arms, no head, just pregnant boobs and tummy. This is a family-run earth-minded business. These are people who most clearly put their heart into this family business and love what they do. I would highly recommend supporting this local business. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the daughters, Jasmine, who runs the kiosk in Pike Place. She extremely knowledgeable about herb use and skin products and about the farming and scientific process of raising bees. Not only was she great at her job, but she was a truly nice and down-to-earth person who was welcoming to a person visiting the area. While the prices will be higher than your average toiletry products you get at the drugstore, that is because you won't be getting just your average products. You are paying for quality, and considering the great quality, the prices aren't bad. To get an idea, the price range is very comparable to Burt's Bees, but you are getting a much better product! I purchased their lip balm, and it may have converted me from Burt's Bees! I am a daily lip balm user, especially before bedtime, and I love this balm. It goes on very smoothly, is light, and smells like vanilla. In addition to the lip balm, I also got a jar of blackberry honey and a bar of their sage soap. They have a deal where you can create your own gift set of three items and get $2 off. They also have pre-packaged gift sets as well. The soap has a relaxing smell and gets a great lather. Years ago my parents brought back these wonderful products from the Pike Place market. I have the lip balm, eczema lotion, muscle rub and lotion bar. The lip balm gives you soft supple lips. The lotion bar smells faintly like honey and lemon zest, which makes your skin soft and deliciously fragrant. I have had surgery on my wrist and whenever it feels a little sore I put the muscle rub on. It smells wonderful and has some cayenne in it. Capsicum is great for sore muscles. I loved these items so much that I placed an online order to replace them since I live on the other coast. The items came very quickly and were carefully wrapped. This time I added the honey and scented soaps to the order. The scented soaps smell amazing, and make the whole bathroom smell wonderful. read more

Update on my previous review after my boyfriend and friend had some time to use the products I got for them: The eczema balm: My friend had wanted something for her keratosis pilaris and after speaking to the lady at the booth, she had recommended this. My friend was a little skeptical as well once I told her about it, but after she used it, she can testify that it did help her condition. Bonus points for it being all natural. I think my friend said she looked into something for her keratosis pilaris before at Sephora and it was super expensive. This definitely a much better deal! The muscle rub balm: I bought this for my boyfriend as he had been having some problems with strained neck/back muscles lately and thought this would be a good thing to try. Unfortunately, my boyfriend said it didn't do much for him when he applied it and ended up going back to his default OTC icy something product (couldn't remember the exact name), but I know it has a cooling effect rather than the warming effect that this product does. Bummer, I was really hoping this would do the trick for him too. Perhaps, it would do better for other muscle aches however. As for the wildflower honey: Unfortunately, my friend reported not being able to taste any difference from regular honey and was a little disappointed. Overall, I would still recommend them since I feel that they are super friendly, knowledgeable and their products are all natural.
