Arriving at Carnation Farms, not knowing what exactly might be there, I was firstly surprised to see the classic "Carnation Farms" logo with the exact font type and the carnation flower on the cans of evaporated milk that I have seen my entire life. Wait a minute, is this THE "Carnation Farms"? Well, yes, but also a no, but also a yes. LOL. I ended up reading the historical signs and chatting with the cashier for a while (there were no other customers - zero). Carnation was indeed the dairy farm that made the now world-famous evaporated milk, created in 1899. The business grew and thrived so well that the community of Tolt was renamed to Carnation in 1917 although the name changed back and forth two more times before it stayed with Carnation. In downtown Carnation, many businesses are still named Tolt, including the Tolt River. In 1985, Nestle brought the Carnation company. In 2016, the original Stuart family purchased the name "Carnation Farms" back from Nestle. The name rights exclude diary, but they have animals and is now a venue, amongst other business ventures. We missed a local market that was on the previous day. Today, this sleepy business sells many locally made products and hosts community events such as the local market. Limited bundles of produce represented the 'farm' name poorly, if I am being honest. I asked the cashier which products in the store are actually from the current farm. She pointed to the freezer case. I chose a frozen curry goat soup from the case. It was passable, more soup than goat, i.e. not much meat. If you want to visit, check their calendar of events and go for a museum tour or one of their many events. The shop itself is less interesting.

They estimated 20-90 minutes for the maze and we completed it in just under 34. I think the maze is free for kids under age 3 (or so?) and for everyone else it's $5 per person. I recommend wearing something like hiking shoes because the maze is pretty bumpy (because of corn stalk stumps). They also had a food truck (tacos!), flower stand, produce stand, a pumpkin patch, sunflowers, pigs, and probably something else I'm forgetting. There was a steady flow of people (arriving and leaving) but everyone wore masks and it was easy to stay quite far from people because the farm has plenty of space. The only close encounter was one group of 3 people while we were lost in the maze. They accept cash and had hand sanitizer available.

They do not offer refunds, but only credits on your NEXT box. They hide their cancelation option only in the contact form and FAQs, and not under "manage account." What's more, you CANNOT remove your payment info. If you try before finding the hidden cancelation box, it will not allow due to an active subscription. If you try after, if says you cannot edit without an active subscription.

I'll admit I was skeptical when I first heard there was an actual farm in Seattle. Land here is…read morescarce and expensive. But lo and behold - there really is one! Seattle Farm is a privately owned 20-acre property, and I'm pretty sure it's the only farm within city limits. The place is beautifully maintained and feels like a hidden gem. No cows or chickens, but there are plenty of horses. We came during pumpkin season and paid $25, which covered both parking and admission. Big parking lot, easy access. At the barn you'll find several horses, and feeding them hay was a hit for both kids and adults. The darker horse was especially affectionate - kept rubbing its head against us, super sweet. You can also pay extra for horse/pony rides; they are all calm, well-trained, and come in various sizes. There's a food area with picnic tables where you can grab hotdogs and drinks. The pumpkin selection isn't as large as farms farther out, but still enough. It's great to see a place like this still operating in the city, and it's definitely worth supporting to help keep it going. I think they also host private events like birthday parties and weddings, and offer dedicated horseback-riding lessons - you'll need to call for details. Awesome family-friendly spot. We'll definitely be back next year!

We weren't too sure where to get our wristbands at first but when we asked one of the staff members they were super helpful and pointed us in the right direction. There are soooo many fun things to do here! There are tons of activities if you're bringing kids, including zip lining, a maze, gem mining, and so much more. You can also hold the cutest little chicks, hang out with some adorable little goats, see the other farm animals, check out the Cidery, gift shop, apple orchard, pumpkin patch, or grab some donuts or roasted corn! I highly recommend checking out the Great Harvest Glow if you're visiting during the season. There are so many amazing light up pumpkin setups and it was such a fun way to experience the farm at night! If you're purchasing a Great Harvest Glow ticket, you can come to the farm as early as 5pm to explore before your scheduled wagon time :)
