Really loved my dining experience here - quickly seated a party of 4 with a baby in a stroller during lunch on a Saturday. The staff was extremely kind from the hostess, to the server, to the manager that came over and played with my nephew. The drinks came out quick, they were delicious, and ditto with the appetizers. Ok.... So I have given this place 3 chances.... First time was there VERY first night open.... Couldn't even get any food! We ordered but it just never came!!! We left! 2nd time was about 2 months later, end of the summer! We had a few apps and dinner. The Tuna app is a joke... the Steak was like a piece of shoe leather as it was over cooked! I said something to the bartender and a new one was prepared.... I literally gave the meal to the customer to my right and we walked out!! We went to Jaxs in Essex to try and salvage the night!!! The 3rd time was a couple nights ago! Clam chowder was mediocre, the salmon was raw, the 5 shrimp pasta dish was absolutely terrible.... The best part was my daughter's onion rings.... I totally get it.... It's a "summer/boating" place because boaters really don't want to leave and drive someplace so they will survive business wise!! Make NO mistake, the positive reviews here are from workers, family members and god knows who else!! Save your $$, grab an Uber and go find a new place!! read more

We have enjoyed the food at Marker 37 before and it was fine this time. The challenge is that they advertise a Happy Hour with discounted drinks. My wife and I brought 3 senior family members for the advertised Happy Hour. When we ordered our cocktails the waiter said Happy Hour is only for those sitting at the bar. I hope it was a bad waiter and not owner policy. False advertising. read more

Marker 37 is in a great fair-weather location. Keep your expectations low and you may be able to tolerate the mediocre food and angry service (I think they participate in the Schedule A hiring process and exclusively source employees from the local anger-management groups). If you're looking for a good meal this isn't it, but the location makes up for its other shortcomings during good weather. read more

Very good atmosphere and good food. My mother had the scallops and loved them! My husband has the shrimp scampi and claims it was the best he ever had. I wasn't in love with my chicken dish but I blame myself for ordering chicken at a seafood place. Still giving it 5/5 because the calamari and egg roll apps were also fantastic! read more

Another superb dining experience at Marker 37. Today was my second time there. I brought 2 friends for a special birthday celebration. Everything was excellent from start to finish. Everyone we encountered hostess, bar, waiter support and water were all extremely friendly and professional. The waiter put a candle in the dessert when he heard we had a birthday girl and took pictures. Excellent excellent service. We ate outside on the patio. What beautiful views of the river. I had the Stonington scallops. Some of the best scallops ever. They are not seared. We shared the coconut shrimp, and the coconut really comes through. Everything was topped off by the toasted almond tiramisu, just wow. We were there at 4:30 on a Tuesday which seemed perfect to enjoy the view and beat the crowds. Highly recommend. read more

Spectacular setting with fantastic food! Has to be one of the best views in CT, expansive stunning view of the CT River and the adjacent marina. The outside patio has a retractable roof which allows for shade on a hot day or coverage from the rain or can be opened to let the sun shine in. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated with a nautical theme and has a great vibe. The food is superb! Chef David Dill Saunders is in his element and he is putting out creative and delicious items that will keep me coming back for more. All the food is fresh and presented well. The scallops casino is one of my favorite appetizers, a unique twist on a classic dish. The Ninigret oysters were great (served with cocktail sauce and a lovely Mignonette. I had the Fresh Mango, Strawberry & Gorgonzola salad - the presentation was very nice and tasted even better. The menu has something for everyone, from great apps, a prime burger to high end entrees. We really want to love this place because the view is beautiful . We have been there three times this summer and each time the service has been worse than the time before. The lack of attention our waiter gave us was unacceptable - we had to continually search him out to ask for more water, drink refill orders, to go boxes and the check. He never checked on us to see how our meals were (although they were fine). Unfortunately, our third strike rule is now in effect and we won't be back or recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Beautiful new building, with gorgeous river views! Lately in my restaurant travels, location has been spot on but food and service has sorely lacked. Well not so with Marker 37!! The hosts, servers and all staff were so welcoming and answered any questions with ease. My strawberry mojito was visually stunning and delicious to boot. If you like overly sweet drinks this is not for you, this was a lovely balanced drink. My coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly-no rubbery or undercooked shrimp here! For dessert I ordered the almond tiramusu and I'm still thinking about it 2 days later. Lots of smooth, creamy filling and an absolutely delicious almond flavor. I'm looking for any excuse to return and keep trying the menu! read more

The hot lobster roll today 7/1/23 was probably one of the worst I ever had. I think it wad reheated many times and some pieces had a fishy taste. Love the place, but never having that again. If they can't make a decent one, they should take it off the menu. read more

It would be hard to tell you exactly if this place is any good or not . We were planning on attending a wine tasting there today .4 of us . My wife called 2 weeks ahead of time. Gave our name and said someone would call to take our credit card info . After 2 calls no one got back to her. , I called on Wednesday and left a message to call me no one returned my call either . So at this point we had no idea if we had a reservation or not and I wasn't about to drive from Durham and the other couple from west Hartford to find out we couldn't be accommodated. What a pathetic way to run a business. So we are heading out in 10 mins to have dinner at the Charles . It's mind boggling that this happened when business is so hard these days !! read more

Gorgeous views. Location can't be beat. Nice decor. Servers were kind and helpful. Food is a mess. Our dozen oysters were delivered with NONE of them cut free of their shells, and all with dirt/sand in them. The lobster Mac and cheese was soupy and bland, with clear brothy liquid everywhere. Unappealing and off putting. The tacos and chips they came with were bland and weird. Overall just pretty shockingly weak food. But man, what a lovely location! This was a Yelp find for lunch located on the water. Drove through Chester and through boatyard to a lovely restaurant. Large outdoor seating area on the water. Inside bar and seating also very nice but most folks were outdoors. Very nice setting. We had tuna tacos that were excellent. Tomato soup was fresh and delicious. Blackened shrimp flatbread that was more like fried shrimp pizza - tasty but not what I expected - a little richer than a typical flatbread with too much cheese. I expect we will make this a regular spot for lunch. read more

An amazing view, fabulous staff and fantastic food! The menu is versatile without being overwhelming. They have both indoor and outdoor dining. If you want to bring the kiddies, they have room to run on the grass knoll on the rivets edge, and would recommend the soft seating facing the River so you can watch over them. read more

I took my sister and her husband out for dinner a Father's Day and birthday celebration. I had the special of shrimp, mussels, calamari Pomodoro, they had the filet mignon and tuna. Everything was delish! The portions were generous for the price. The issue of disappointment and reason for my rating is the serve. I have spent better than 30 years in the restaurant business and found the waiter s less than trained in proper service. When anything was brought to the table it became an "auction". By that I mean " Who ordered the..." our waiter never told any of the food or drink runners what went to whom. He never returned to the table to ask us how our meal was or if anything else was required for us to enjoy the meal. At the end of our meal he never returned to inquire if we might like dessert, coffee or maybe another after dinner beverage. I understand it was a holiday, but having watched our waiter he didn't seem to really be paying attention to his guests needs. My wife and I debated over where to go for an early dinner on Sunday afternoon (7/17/22). I wanted River Tavern in Chester, Cafe Routier in Westbrook, or Liv's in Old Saybrook, but she wanted the "river view" at Marker 37, which is really nice. So, we opted for Marker 37 and the view, which always nice. Unfortunately, the food left a lot to be desired. She had the chicken Milanese, which was not pounded out and much different than what she experienced on a visit last year. I was in the mood for steak and went with the NY Strip. The strip was thin (less than an inch thick) and very fatty, and came with mashed potatoes, which were cold, along with perfectly cooked asparagus (which could have been seasoned better). I ate some of the steak, because I was starving, and left a pile of fat on the plate. Our server, Jordan, was wonderful and, despite the fact that my wife felt compelled to tell her how terrible the steak was (and that we were NOT looking for any favors), she told the manager, who knocked it off the bill - not expected, but appreciated, since it was $30. In addition to this, the drinks are all "short pours" and not cheap. We had a couple of Margaritas at the bar while we waited for our table and, although $14 apiece, they came in shorty, thick glasses. This wasn't a good optic and told us that they were seriously trying to cut corners, despite still charging $14 for cocktails like the better restaurants. The wine we ordered for dinner was $13 a glass and came in little, "shorty", plastic cups. In fact, my Montepulciano was a lesser pour than her Josh Chardonnay, which seemed to just add insult to injury. By the time my steak arrived I was beyond upset. We don't go to restaurants to have failed dinner items removed from the bill. We go to enjoy dinner and have a pleasant evening. And, we don't mind spending more for a great dining experience. C'mon guys, get it together! The view of the river will only take you so far. read more

New restaurant on the CT River. Wonderful menu filled with a variety of dishes and specials. Had the spring rolls and then the clam chowder which is absolutely delicious. Would like to suggest they add more clams and a few less potatoes though. I like a real meaty clam chowder. The dash of jalapeño gives it a nice kick. Chef Dave Saunders has put together a selection of appetizers, main courses, and desserts that are some of the best in the region. Dine inside in a modern maritime design or on their enclosed porch with beautiful views of the river. This is a restaurant that was sorely needed in the area. read more

Everything is delicious. The staff is energetic and attentative. The menu was matched only by the view directly on the CT River. This is where we go for dinner offer and for memories. No one forgets their first time. Chef David will periodically check on us ensuring our satisfaction and has never failed us. I've even tried dishes I don't usually eat due to bad experiences at other places and have started enjoying them again as well. Recently tried out this place because everything else was packed in Chester. They had an awesome deal on a burger and beer so I went with that. The burger was amazing, the aioli was a perfect topping and the meat was flawlessly medium. the manager shelby came around to check on us a couple times and was so lovely and personable. the bartender didn't hover or ignore us, despite a full bar for trivia night. we played trivia and it was an all around good time. definitely will be back and can't wait for nicer weather. read more
