I was so disappointed yesterday when my husband and I went for lunch, we sat there waiting for someone to wait on us, mind you there wasn't a big crowd since lunch rush hadn't started. My breaking point happened when the waiter helped a gentleman that was sat way after us and ignored us completely! I walked out and probably won't be back in a very long time! I'm a regular here. Must try their langostinos azarandeado! We always order that and camarones ahogados, both red and green are delish, but my fav are the green ones. My son always gets the tostada de ceviche de camaron and sometimes adds octopus and jaiva, his fav. Their Micheladas are super good. And their salsa is addicting. We are always only served by Maribel when during her shift which is the best and super friendly! My experience at Mariscos Uruapan was great for it to be my first time there. I had the Camarones al Nopal and since I like nopales it was a good choice. The portion size was decent and fulfilling. The plate came with rice and beans, the beans were so good that I wanted more. My choice of beverage was the "ChamoTamarindo Mango Margarita" and let me say that it was delicious!!! It was so good that I ordered a second one! We arrived at about 5:30pm (on a Sunday) and they had men dressed in drag (cross dressers) singing Juan Gabriel, Rocio Durcal, etc... songs. They were great at their craft and wished they had more stage time than their allotted 5pm-6pm slot. Next to take the stage was a live band. The band (Banda) played your typical norteña music. They were ok. Nothing to go home and brag about. After reading other reviews, and what they had commented about the noise level... I didn't have an issue with it, it wasn't ear piercing, but maybe it could've been turn down a bit so that the people dinning can talk while they ate their meals (I'm sure for me and my party sitting at the very end of the restaurant made a huge difference). Lastly the service alone gets 5 stars. Waitresses and waiters were very attentive. I did noticed that they had plenty of staff. read more

Coming here really shows that there are fun restaruants in the least likely places. Honestly, walking into this place I was thinking that it would be quiet and empty (since it was about 4:30 in the afternoon on a Sunday) but once we opened the door it was jam packed with families and music filling the air. Albeit my girlfriend and I were literally the ONLY asian people in this place but that did not discourage us from really enjoying the atmosphere. We came here looking for Michelada's to cool us off on a hot mid day. I've had michelada's before and it was never made with tomato juice (please someone tell me if its suppose to be made with clamato or not) and I can say I prefer it without. Not saying that it wasn't good, I'm just not a fan of it (ie. drinking V-8's and bloody mary's). After extensively looking at the menu we decided to try the oysters on a half shell and the chimichanga. The oysters were good but nothing spectacular to report. The chimicanga, on the other hand, was amazing. We had ordered it with beef and the way they fried it, really gave a soft crispy taste. Together with rice and the re-fried beans, we couldn't get enough of it. The chips and salsa that came with it also was fantastic. The atmosphere was festive and the Singer who was providing the entertainment was powering through love ballads and interacting with the crowd all while taking toasts with local patrons. I always can appreciate restaurants that try to emmerse their diners with the entertainment. I can see that this place can be great for sporting events too as there are T.V.'s everywhere. My only draw back that it was a bit pricey so you better come with that expectation. read more

From the moment we got there the waiter was rude (the gentleman with bald head and tattoos). I asked the waiter how big the Pescado Sarandeado was since the price was $22.99 per pound. He said he didn't know, again I asked from his experience what is the average, he again said fish come in different sizes and had no idea. I decided to order it anyways for my mom and I, my father ordered a Menudo. When the fish came, it was extremely small for 2 people, so my mother asked for the menu to order something else, the waiter rolled his eyes and never brought it. We only got one order or tortillas for the menudo and the fish. The waiter never came back to offer us more drinks or anything else! 30 minutes after he brought us the check. That was it.. My visit here was on Friday, 3/1/13..trying to be a good Catholic by having seafood on Fridays. Let me start off by saying this, if you're not in a hurry this is the place to go. From start to finish, dinner took 3 hours! The restaurant is in a strip ball at the corner of Arrow Hwy and Irwindale Ave. There's a Jack in the Box in this strip mall as well. We arrived a little after 5, we were about to be promptly seated at a booth which--OOPS--was dirty. We had to go back to the entrance to wait until they had cleaned it before we were seated. We were given menus and left to wait for our server. There is a really loud jukebox in the corner making conversation difficult and musicians who come table-to-table asking if you'd like them to play a song, for a small fee, of course. The restaurant advertises live music, on Sundays, I believe. The restaurant has a huge selection regardless of what you're in the mood for. From plentiful seafood dishes, to steak and chicken. Dishes are prepared in a traditional mexican manner, thus the chicken, for example, is Pollo con Mole. It took our server, what seemed like an eternity, to arrive at our table to take drink orders. I asked her if they had any drink specials and she gave me a look like I was speaking in martian and told me that she'd be back with a drink menu. The drink menu showed up relatively quickly and then she disappeared. What seemed like 15 to 20 minutes later she returns, I ordered a cazuela and my companion a shot of tequila. Like most restaurants, prices are not printed on the drink menu. The cazuela consists of tequila mixed with grapefruit and other citrus juices served in a large glass goblet garnished with assorted citrus. Once drinks arrived another 15 minutes later, we ordered our first dish: Aguachile Rojo. A sort of cocktail. It is served in a molcajete and consists of shrimp "cooked" in lemon juice served in a spicy lemon and chile liquid garnished with avocados, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Once this finally got to us, it was delicious. A nice starter. A bit on the pricey side however, hovering somewhere around $16. Not to bore you with more time descriptions...suffice to say, we waited A LOT between courses. The remainder of the menu consisted of... Taco de Marlin-- somewhere around $6. Average. I've had better at El Bukanas. The taco was served in a purportedly handmade tortilla and accompanied by guacamole and a small salad. The marlin didn't taste very fresh and tasted more like something out of a can. Taco Gobernador--roughly $7. Again, average. Try these tacos at El Bukanas at the corner of Citrus & Badillo in Covina, CA. Served with the same accompaniments as the taco de marlin. The taco was greasy and falling part by the time it got to us. Of the two, I preferred the taco gobernador. 2 Lobsters--$48. Two lobsters grilled, served on what looked to be an aluminum pizza round garnished with tomatoes, red onions, and avocados. Not sure if it was intentional, but the chef threw in some grilled shrimp as well. This was served with beans, rice, and homemade tortillas. The lobster was delicious, however, I've had better. It was a bit tough and drawn butter never made it to our table. Dessert--Capirotada. Essentially Mexican bread pudding. A traditional dessert served during the Lenten season. It was good. Service here is deplorable. From the dirty booth, to the extremely long waits to order and get food. The restaurant lost points. We had to ask our server several times for more salsa, extra napkins, and extra flatware. I don't know if she had lots of tables or was new to the restaurant (when I ordered the lobster, she had no clue what I was talking about and had to look at the menu to see a picture of the dish and determine its price) but she seemed overwhelmed at times. Other servers in the restaurant appeared much more attentive and guests who arrived after us left before us. Not a place I'll be returning to. Total before tip: $123.97 read more

I went for the first time over the weekend and I can honestly say I would not go back. The musicians pinned a couple of songs to our group and were demanding to get paid. My friends had never been there and of course one of the lead singers came up to him continuously asking what song he wanted them to play without stating how much he would charge after seeing that we were hesitant in paying, he announced to the whole crowd that we didn't want to pay. WHO DOES THAT.!!! It was very humiliating and necessary. We wouldn't have mind paying if he would have been clear from the get go. Not only unsatisfied with the entertainment, I went ahead and asked for Jagger bombs and the bartender had no idea how to make them. I sent the first round back, the second time the waitress came back with our drinks the redbull and jagger were both hot as if the bottles had been out in the sun. Went to this place for lunch today. My friend ordered a carnitas plate. When it arrived it had a hair in the beans. Alerted the server. My friend then asked for a burrito just so that it didn't go to the kitchen and come right back out completely remade. The server was very polite, gracious, and understanding. I came here because some family members recommended this place so I was really looking forward to trying this place out. We were seated immediately which was probably the only good thing from this restaurant. Our waiter wasn't the nicest, when I asked him about one of their dishes it seemed like he was annoyed, my sister asked him about the cucarachas because different places make them differently & right away I could tell he was getting irritated. Only two simple questions that obviously bothered him, I have no idea why. When your job is based on customer service you need to be friendly and answer questions without having your customer feel like they're bothering you. I ordered a Jamaica and omg it was gross. It was the one from the machine, you couldn't even taste Jamaica it was just water with sugar. I decided to get the caldo de camaron...once again it didn't taste like shrimp.
