This is my mobile order delivery experience. I have ordered from Chubby Curry a few times from my mobile app. The food was great! I tried the Curry Wagyu bowl and it was buy one get one free. I tried their curry tofu, wagyu bowl, eel egg rice and salmon sashimi bowl. They are all delicious and quick delivery. I also ordered a Chirashi bowl for pickup last time. The fishes were very fresh and the price was decent. I haven't had a chance to eat there yet. We came here after a play date with my son's bestie and his family. The kids were "hangry" and needed to be fed quick. A quick Yelp search, and this place popped up. We were familiar with the Chubby Franchise, so we were expecting some good grub. I'm glad to say the verdict is definitely on the positive side! We ordered chicken katsu curry, the wagyu steak rice bowl and the kiddo has his usual curry udon. All our dishes were delicious, although the clear winner was the wagyu steak rice bowl. The steak was thinly sliced and super fatty and had such great mouth-feel and really held the curry well. My kid had a little issue with his curry udon b/c he can't handle the spice level. Service was great. They were extremely patient as it was our first time there and we had a large party. We have a peanut allergy in our party and they made sure that none of the ingredients used for our dishes had any peanuts or cross contamination. I genuinely left Chubby Curry a little disappointed overall. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all the popularity and about 1,000 reviews with a 4.5-star rating. The curry was good, but honestly, curry is pretty hard to mess up. The katsu was also decent, but nothing really had that "wow" factor for me. The biggest disappointment was the wagyu burger. For $28, I was expecting something special, but it was dry, lacked seasoning, and the meat didn't taste fresh. Honestly, it just tasted like regular ground beef, and we could even taste that strong beef smell. My wife and I took a couple of bites and stopped eating it. Maybe it was just an off day, but for $28? PASS. The cucumber salad was also way too heavy on the lime. It was so sour that it was hard to enjoy for my taste. So why am I still giving them 4 stars? Two reasons: the wagyu steak rice bowl and the service. The wagyu steak rice bowl was easily the highlight of the meal. The meat was very tender, flavorful, and actually lived up to my expectations. Service was also on point. Everyone was attentive and took good care of us. Overall, not a bad experience, but based on all the hype, I expected the food to be much better. Our first stop on the Dine LA list done! Chubby Curry always has great offers during this time of year. My husband and I dined here last Friday night. We both ordered Option Two: Hambagu Over Fried Rice. It's an 8oz beef wagyu patty, poached egg, broccoli and cherry tomatoes served over rice. The curry is cooked and served separately in its own cast iron. The dish was robust, full-bodied, and umami-rich! The curry was lush and warm-spiced. This is a new favorite of mine from Chubby Curry! My husband and I also ordered handrolls - Yellowtail and Salmon. The fish was fresh and mildly sweet. You can't go wrong with these as they have been consistent throughout the years we've been here. When we arrived, it was busy. There was a wait of 30 mins. You can make a reservation online or walk-in. They have a kiosk in the front if you want to order to-go. Our servers were friendly and did their best to be as attentive as possible. There were times we had to ask for something more than once. Overall, I recommend dining here even outside of Dine LA. We recently ordered Uber Eats for pickup, and it was such a disappointment. We ordered the Tonkatsu Kare, Oyakodon - Tonkatsu, and Tuna Handroll. The Tonkatsu was okay. It probably would've been better if we ate there, of course, but this review is mainly for the Tuna Handroll. The sushi was honestly really bad. It tasted and smelled like it was old or had gone bad. It felt a little stuffy inside because of the hot weather, but they had a floor fan that helped cool the space. Ordering is done through an iPad, which made the process quick and easy. I ordered the Tonkatsu Curry with medium spice. The portion size was small, but the curry was flavorful with a noticeable kick, as I ordered medium spicy. Decided to give this place a try due to the hype I saw since a year or two ago. Came to this restaurant at 1PM and the place is dead with just 1 table occupied. I believe they used to serve chirashi so there's a sushi bar but possibly due to less business, the sushi bar is just empty. No server was up front for a few min and there's no bell to press to notify anyone that there's customers. Ordering is done via tablet on the table with everything labeled with a corresponding photo. They have few options for lunch special so I opt in for the beef curry + seaweed salad + miso soup/soda lunch option for $24. Ordered the Wagyu dumpling and a crab croquette to try as well. I would skip the dumpling if I were you. It's just like boiled dumpling with some sprinkles and sauce on the side. Not worth the $9. Crab croquette is overall decent . Standard price for 2 pieces like most Japanese restaurants. The main course curry comes with a bowl of white rice with 4 pieces of broccoli. Curry itself contains potato, carrot, and meat. Portion size is decent. Overall taste is more on the Japanese sweeter flavor with a little bit of a kick from possibly white pepper but might be a little spicy for kids. My order was in the beef curry with the steak bowl. Probably the best bang for a buck, my buck, your buck, whoever's buck. Steak on the rice was tender and delicious. In the search of a new Friday date-night spot, my husband and I came across chubby curry on Yelp recommendations. We both have never tried Japanese style curry and the pictures looked absolutely delicious. Located in the busy downtown Covina area nightlife is loud and busy, in a good way! If you're looking to park near the restaurant, come with plenty of time as street parking, especially during the night is hard to come across. Although, they do have a parking structure that's just about a block away, which is not much of a walk! It's a very small restaurant with not much seating, but we didn't have to wait much on a Friday night-15 minutes max but they do have a Yelp sign up. If you know you're coming I recommend you do this. We were seated, and I should mention that the hospitality was amazing! My husband and I were well taken care of and all of our questions answered. Whenever we try a new spot that looks as good as this we try to get a little bit of everything. My only complaint would be that I wished they advised us that with the party of 6 or more, that a tip was included already. Doesn't surprise me this is part of the chubby cattle empire because it's DELICIOUS! Had 2 very fresh yellowtail handrolls - they have other ones too - and the wagyu beef bowl. It comes with rice and egg and is a surprisingly big portion. I looooved it, esp the garlic butter which was a nice touch. My friend got the wagyu curry and let me have a bite and it was incredible! The "Chubby" chain of restaurants are fantastic, however, this is my least favorite one for a few reasons. I believe this is their take on Japanese curry and Japanese dishes, so I understand it's going to be different but I didn't realize HOW different until I tried it. The curry is actually okay, the sauce I mean, but almost everything else is way off from what you'd expect. If you're a fan of Japanese dishes at all, you'll immediately be able to tell. Let's go over the dishes I tried. The Chicken Katsu Curry, something I order almost everywhere, was a huge let down because for the breading or Panko crust it's supposed to have was a chewy Tempura batter. It was definitely not crispy how you normally would expect it to be. Unfortunately that really ruined it for me. The taste of the actual curry was okay though! The Gyu-don I tried there was also a heavier sauce than what's normally in a gyu-don. It was closer to a curry than a light sweet soy sauce. VERY salty. It wasn't terrible, it was just not what you'd expect if you're used to Japanese dishes and the way they normally taste. I will also say the fatty beef that was in my dish either wasn't cooked properly or was extremely chewy and couldn't cut it with my teeth... A few pieces were inedible. I also tried their Yellowtail Handroll. Not horrible but fish seemed pretty dry? I assume they don't sell much of these. This is my second time trying the food here so I was hoping it was gonna change, but either way it's the closest "Japanese" curry spot near me, so I was hoping it'd get better. Chubby Curry is a solid 3/5. If you're coming to a Chubby franchise, you'll have to get some kind of meat to go with your curry. All orders are placed on the tablet. My group ordered the Curry Wagyu Steak Ribeye Rice Plate and the Wagyu Burger to share. This place is definitely boogie. Charging $3 to add cheese to a burger is wild. Service was really good. They gave my friend an ice cream mochi for her birthday. The Wagyu Burger was good but I'd be fine eating at In-n-Out as well. The only thing that saved the curry was the soft steak ribeye. The beef in the curry tasted like meat from a stew. I'm not a huge fan of beef stew, so it made the curry taste mediocre. The Yuzu Oolong isn't a must get. Water is the way to go. Out of all the Chubby group restaurants, Chubby Curry is by far the most disappointing. Don't let the influencers fool you, the curry here is super mediocre and I was surprised at the measly portions. My husband and I were deceived by the reviews so we gave it a try, but we won't be returning. We ordered the wagyu curry plate and a katsu curry plate. As for the wagyu curry, I counted a total of two pieces of potatoes, and maybe 5 pieces of "wagyu" beef in my curry. This is totally unacceptable for the price paid. My husband's katsu curry was dry and also came in tiny portions. Service was fast and efficient through an ipad, but the food is all-around a huge let down. I had high expectations for this restaurant as Chubby group made itself a high standard brand for quality food. They don't use short grain sushi rice for their sushi hand rolls, which to me was odd. The salmon itself was fresh, so no complaints there. The eel was also good. Radish for curry being $3 is insane. I can understand $1 maybe, but $3 is robbery. Most curry places I've been to offer this free of charge as most people only take a spoonful of it to complement their curry. Waffle fries were fine, not super crispy, but not soggy. Curry flavor was there. Chicken cutlet curry - this was probably the worst curry I've ever had in my life. It tasted like spicy squash soup with little to no curry flavor..... I knew I had messed up ordering this when I saw the other tables and noticed everyone who ordered this almost all left it behind barely uneaten. To make matters worse, I asked a waitress at the time if this flavor was how it was intended or if somehow I could get more curry flavor in the curry. They offered me soy sauce to put in the curry..... SOY SAUCE?! I think it's insane that the fries had more of a curry taste than this actually 'curry' dish. I would've given this place 0 stars if this was all I had. Absolutely frustrated we spent so much money on this dish to be so grossly disappointed. At least the cutlet was fine. Thankfully the Wagyu curry was solid. This was a standard curry dish and actually tasted like curry. The meat was good, this dish I would have ordered again. The waitlist/reservation system needs serious improvement. This is my main gripe about this place. Tried calling several times, no one picking up. Wasn't even sure if this place was open or not, how long lines could be. Still took a chance, arrived with 10 people total. Small place, nice decor, but thankfully able to find seating relatively quick around 6pm. Service was really good and quick. Using tablets to order was easy, quick refills of water, and our host (possibly manager) was awesome. When food arrived, it was exceeded my expectations. The pork katsu curry was cooked perfectly. The rice fluffy and went well with the curry. Oh man, the food hit the spot, every sides, every main course was done really good. It's like the cooks learned such a simple recipe, and said "We got to give this place the Chubby group elevation" and it met that point nicely. I've been to the Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills and I absolutely loved it. The stone pot hamburg curry on rice was amazing, the beef was super juicy, and the curry was amazing. I saw that Chubby Curry had opened a second branch in Covina, and I knew I eventually had to try it. I finally had to chance to visit with family one weekend. We came here for lunch right when the restaurant opened and thus we were seated fairly quickly. The staff are super nice and answered all our questions. The restaurant is small but cozy. We ended up sharing a wagyu beef burger, a vegetarian curry, and then their winter special which was an oden udon. I loved that the broth on the oden udon was very light and did not have too heavy an MSG taste. The daikon was amazing, and the noodle texture was perfect. I asked that the burger be cooked to a medium level. It came out basically a perfect medium, and the onions and curry were a wonderful accent. The beef was still very juicy and the brioche bun was soft. The veggie curry was amazing also. We loved the grilled broccoli and grilled mushrooms. This Chubby Curry is just as amazing as the one in Beverly Hills. The restaurant was a bit pricey but I would definitely come back. read more

This is now my favorite of the Chubby brand restaurants. Came here on Saturday evening. Parking was simple (rear of the block), place was full but a party was leaving right as we arrived so we got sat quick. It's a small restaurant so definitely not a large crowd place. Had the cold tofu to start. Very nice sesame sauce. It was mild enough to not overpower the tofu flavor. Just right. And the tofu was incredibly rich and creamy. Baked blue crab hand roll was good. Nothing special, really. Something I wouldn't mind having but also wouldn't necessarily go out of way to get it. I had the wagyu curry and OMG. So good. This was some of the most tender beef I've ever had in my life. You don't even need to chew it. The curry itself was also delicious with large pieces of potato. My only gripe is they wouldn't give me fukujinzuke. It's a curry dish. It should have fukujinzuke. They put it on the curry udon and Wagyu beef rice so why can't I have a little for my curry? For me personally, it made the dish feel incomplete. But the curry was so good I can look past it. I'll just bring my own next time. Tried a bite of the Wagyu beefy rice and that was equally delicious. I liked that the beef was kept more rare but it had a delicious sear. Finally, a Japanese curry spot in the area! The curry was good with generous portions & warmed our souls on a rainy night. I added the charred broccoli on the side for $2 but I wish it was included because it's good! The food also came out very quickly and the service was friendly & attentive. I ordered the medium spice level & it tasted more mild for me. I would try the more spicy option next time. There's limited parking in front since it's downtown Covina but some more parking behind the restaurant. Prices are high but that's life these days :') If you've been lucky to have Curry House before they closed, I'd say Curry House was more casual & offered more options with more sides. read more

Their anniversary special was an awesome deal. So much value! And when we declined the sodas that came with it, our server Jason kindly replaced them with miso soups! That was generous of them - other restaurants would've just shrugged and not offered anything. The Wagyu burger was out of this world. Flavor, juiciness, mouthfeel - it was all decadent. We also loved the hand rolls, the cold tofu, the wagyu steak plate, and the salmon carpaccio. The takoyaki was crispy on the outside and soft, creamy and chewy on the inside. Never have we ordered anything on the menu that we disliked. It's so nice to see that despite the economy, Chubby Curry didn't cut corners and use cheaper cuts of meat or ingredients. The Wagyu and fish they offer is still of premium quality. And they did not raise prices (at least to my knowledge). When a restaurant prioritizes their customers' needs over elasticising profit margins, they will garner loyalty. That's why Chubby Curry will always have mine. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. There's something homey about all the wood paneling and seats. Maybe it's reminiscent of one's grandparents' home and evokes memories of meals and happy gatherings? Mmm Wagyu! If you're craving a hearty bowl with melt-in-your-mouth meat, this spot is worth a visit. You place your order on a tablet, the server confirms it, and then they bring the food out to you. The space inside is small, with just a few tables and some bar seating, but it's clean and well-kept. We've visited Chubby Curry multiple times, and our go-to orders are always the Wagyu Curry and the Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl. The curry is on the milder side and not too bold or flavorful but the wagyu meat is delicious and very tender. The food is on the pricier side as you are paying for better quality meat. Parking in downtown Covina can be hard to find during peak hours. If you can't find street parking in front of the restaurant, there are a few free parking lots nearby that is a short walk away. read more

I ordered the buy one get one free Grilled Wagyu hamburger curry over rice through Uber eats delivery took almost an hour, but the food not bad when it arrived. The portions weren't very large, but they were just right for two people since each person gets one serving the curry was flavorful and the Wagyu hamburger was tender. For the buy one get one free deal. It was a great value and well worth ordering. I would recommend taking advantage of the promotion if it's available. read more

Chubby Curry is located in downtown West Covina so there's limited parking especially in the evenings. The restaurant offers a lot of seating and for the eight of us, they opened the upstairs seating. Ordering is through the iPad which makes everything really easy. They're known for their wagyu beef, and although I am not expert I thought it was great quality and very tender. The Wagyu Curry had huge portions and I had lots of leftovers. The takoyaki was so creamy and melted in your mouth. We also enjoyed the matcha mochis. The waiters checked on us throughout the evening, even though we were upstairs. I wanted to like Chubby Curry so badly! There's a lot of hype surrounding the Chubby Group restaurants, and as a lover of Japanese curry, I was eager to try this spot. A group of friends and I came on a weekend for late lunch, and were able to be seated immediately. Ordering is also very straight forward, you place your order on an iPad at the table, easy peasy. I had the chicken katsu curry, and I was just disappointed. It lacked depth of flavor, the chicken was quite dry, and it was made worse by the curry sauce to rice and meat ratio! There simply wasn't enough curry. My husband ordered the wagyu curry and although it was beautifully presented, he also ended up disappointed in the flavor of the curry and wagyu for the price tag The staff was very nice and the restaurant was very cute and clean. I just didn't feel like it satisfied our curry cravings, especially as a restaurant that is supposed to specialize in curry. read more
