    Chicken Katsu Kare 【招牌】鸡排咖喱

After visiting XPOT in Las Vegas, e decided to become a member of the CHUBBY CATTLE GROUP. We were on our way to LA so we searched on YELP for the nearest Chubby Cattle Group restaurant and made sure it had high ratings... CHICKEN KATSU CURRY: 10/10 My expectations were low so I was BLOWN AWAY at how good their CHICKEN KATSU was!! The chicken was so JUICY & TENDER. I usually don't event like eating chicken katsu and I end up eating the curry and rice but, the CHICKEN KATSU WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW... WAGYU GYOZA: 8/10 It was good especially the filling. The texture of the steamed gyoza was really thick. I think I might have like a fried version more... My husband said they have the KATSU breading and the hamburger meat so they can definitely do a katsu burger and curry dish! AKA MENCHI... SERVICE: A+ Our server was such a delight to take to!! He spoke to us as if we've been friends for years!! Made us feel so at home and recommended his favorite dishes to us. We wish him ask the best with his CAREER!!! AMBIANCE: I really felt like I was transported to a cute Japanese cafe and bar. There were wooden booths and a nice demo display of the dishes at the window in the front... We definitely be back in a HURRY for more CHUBBY CURRY!!!!

Fun Japanese curry shop located in old town Covina. Wagyu and tonkatsu curries plus a wagyu burger and some sushi rolls. Watch your curry being made in the little display kitchen that reminds me of a small curry shop in Japan, part of the chubby cattle restaurant group. Plenty of parking in the backs. Also ice cold beer!

Heard about the chubby chain so thought we'd give this place a try. It was however not satisfactory. If you were expecting Japanese style curry with a deep and rich flavoring, this place is not for you. That's what I was expecting and so was disappointed in my curry. For a party of 4 we order a few dishes to share. We ordered: Tonkatsu Kare: katsu was delicious, good crisp and flavor. Curry lacked flavor and was very light. Curry was thin. Wagyu steak bowl - 10/10 best thing we ordered. Wagyu had very good flavor Wagyu burger - was juicy but lacked a savory flavor Macha bingso - enjoyable and a good size for 4 people. I was happy the matcha flavor had the typical matcha bitterness to it, and did not taste like the sugary fake syrup you get at some restaurants Parking is easy to find and the restaurant seems like it can accommodate quite a few people on the floor above as well. The space is cozy, comfortable and cutely decorated. Probably won't be coming back however, as this style of curry doesn't meet my needs in a curry.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while now but keep forgetting to. Take that into consideration as things may have changed since I last went (a year ago). I had high expectations for this restaurant as Chubby group made itself a high standard brand for quality food. They don't use short grain sushi rice for their sushi hand rolls, which to me was odd. The salmon itself was fresh, so no complaints there. The eel was also good. Radish for curry being $3 is insane. I can understand $1 maybe, but $3 is robbery. Most curry places I've been to offer this free of charge as most people only take a spoonful of it to complement their curry. Waffle fries were fine, not super crispy, but not soggy. Curry flavor was there. Chicken cutlet curry - this was probably the worst curry I've ever had in my life. It tasted like spicy squash soup with little to no curry flavor..... I knew I had messed up ordering this when I saw the other tables and noticed everyone who ordered this almost all left it behind barely uneaten. To make matters worse, I asked a waitress at the time if this flavor was how it was intended or if somehow I could get more curry flavor in the curry. They offered me soy sauce to put in the curry..... SOY SAUCE?! I think it's insane that the fries had more of a curry taste than this actually 'curry' dish. I would've given this place 0 stars if this was all I had. Absolutely frustrated we spent so much money on this dish to be so grossly disappointed. At least the cutlet was fine. Thankfully the Wagyu curry was solid. This was a standard curry dish and actually tasted like curry. The meat was good, this dish I would have ordered again. Unfortunately because of the chicken curry, I don't think I would ever return again. It was misleading for anyone expecting curry and getting whatever that weird flavor combo was. All in all I'm giving them 2 stars because the Wagyu curry was decent and the fish from the rolls were fresh, but I overall wouldn't recommend from my experience.

Chubby Curry is a solid 3/5. If you're coming to a Chubby franchise, you'll have to get some kind of meat to go with your curry. All orders are placed on the tablet. My group ordered the Curry Wagyu Steak Ribeye Rice Plate and the Wagyu Burger to share. This place is definitely boogie. Charging $3 to add cheese to a burger is wild. Service was really good. They gave my friend an ice cream mochi for her birthday. The Wagyu Burger was good but I'd be fine eating at In-n-Out as well. The only thing that saved the curry was the soft steak ribeye. The beef in the curry tasted like meat from a stew. I'm not a huge fan of beef stew, so it made the curry taste mediocre. The Yuzu Oolong isn't a must get. Water is the way to go. Parking is free in the back lot. There's also plenty of street parking.

One of the best curry spots in LA. This gem located in Covina is a must goto best spot if you like curry! Their waygu curry rice is must order and their strawberry shaved ice is also great! Their service is great too! Parking in the back of their restaurant!

Good place for Japanese curry. There are plenty of public parking in the area and place was easy to find. The restaurant has a cozy vibe. You get a tablet and order on that and the server will come to confirm. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Food was good, the chicken katsu was perfectly fried without being very oily. The hottest curry spice level was not hot though so don't expect to get a burn. Otherwise, everything had a great flavor.

I've been to the Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills and I absolutely loved it. The stone pot hamburg curry on rice was amazing, the beef was super juicy, and the curry was amazing. I saw that Chubby Curry had opened a second branch in Covina, and I knew I eventually had to try it. I finally had to chance to visit with family one weekend. We came here for lunch right when the restaurant opened and thus we were seated fairly quickly. The staff are super nice and answered all our questions. The restaurant is small but cozy. We ended up sharing a wagyu beef burger, a vegetarian curry, and then their winter special which was an oden udon. I loved that the broth on the oden udon was very light and did not have too heavy an MSG taste. The daikon was amazing, and the noodle texture was perfect. I asked that the burger be cooked to a medium level. It came out basically a perfect medium, and the onions and curry were a wonderful accent. The beef was still very juicy and the brioche bun was soft. The veggie curry was amazing also. We loved the grilled broccoli and grilled mushrooms. This Chubby Curry is just as amazing as the one in Beverly Hills. The restaurant was a bit pricey but I would definitely come back.

Went to this place and had a 10/10 experience, good service, great food, and nice ambiance. My husband and I had the Wagyu steak rice bowl and the Wagyu curry and both were super good!

Got the Oyakodon Tonkatsu and it was great and nicely flavored. It had a lightly sweet base to the sauce with bits of egg on the rice. Great and fast service. On the pricier side, but also had larger portions. My friend got the curry, and I wasn't feeling it, but would return for this.

Located in downtown Covina, Chubby Curry is a Japanese comfort food from the well-known Chubby Group. This restaurant is the second location for the brand, following its original flagship in Beverly Hills. It focuses on rich, dark Japanese curry paired with premium proteins, particularly Wagyu beef. The restaurant's curry recipe was developed by Chefs Shin and Liga Sigal, who spent two years refining their recipes with 25-spice curry blends at a ghost kitchen in Chicago before launching the first restaurant. Their goal is to preserve traditional homemade Japanese curry flavors within a modern, lively environment. The interior features a modern Japanese aesthetic with wood accents, anime figurines, and a casual, cozy atmosphere. This location is a two-story space; the downstairs feels like a busy diner, while the upstairs offers a more intimate, "speakeasy" feel with a bar. Dining is handled through iPads at the table. Staffs are attentive and friendly. The Wagyu beef was tender and flavorful while the chicken katsu was crispy and juicy. However, instead of a complex, layered flavor, the curry feels muted and failed to provide the rich, aromatic experience typical of good curry, it was not up to scratch. Parking can be difficult on the street during peak hours, but there is a large public lot located behind the building.

Wagyu Curry and Oden For One and Small Waffle Fries
    Cathleen H.

Me and friend decided to go for Dine LA and the food was yummy. Oden For One is comforting with Daikon, Black Konjac Yam Cake, Cod Fish Ball (beware of it bursting so please eat in small bites), and Beef Ball. 9/10 Wagyu Curry is good with tender soft meat and the curry itself is flavorful savory-sweet sauce. 8/10 Small Waffle Fries are nice and crispy and not too starchy. The curry aioli is nicely spiced and not too curry like which is nice. 7/10 Friendly staff and relatively quick service which you order off your iPad on your table. Small and intimate seating so it's best to go early to beat the waitlist. Spacious parking lot in the back if you can't park on the street.

    Yes

Yes! They do but you have to order in-person or try calling. They’re currently trying to set up online order for future orders, but that’s still in the work.

The food is hot, large, and satisfying. Today, I had a good experience at Kz Mori (West Covina). I ordered the Mix Katsu Combo ($19.99). It's pork katsu, chicken katsu, curry sauce, fresh & clean rice, salad, and miso soup. It's a lot of food. I arrived on Wednesday (around 8:10PM). Parking is easy on a late evening. Although the lot is typically competitive, there were not too many cars in this large lot this night. Customers can order at the self-service kiosk or the counter. Staff is friendly and pleasant. Staff hands an electronic pager which lights up when your food is ready. My meal took seven minutes and 32 seconds. As mentioned, I ordered the Mix Katsu Combo ($19.99). Quality is usually consistent, but it was a little burnt and dry this evening. Still, it tasted satisfying when slathered with its well-seasoned curry. Personally, I found a lot of enjoyment with the fresh steamed white rice. Still, it's a guilty pleasure that serves huge portions. Regarding ambiance, Kz Mori (West Covina) is located in the popular Haven City Market. There's plenty of indoor tables, and there's still many customers despite the late hours. I especially appreciated the flat screen TVs showing the basketball game. Overall, Kz Mori (West Covina) is a decent option when craving some crispy katsu and clean steamed rice. The portion is HUGE and its price is competitive. If nearby, it's a good option. 4.5 out of 5

I was surprised how large the portion size is, but I think it was perfect for the price. The cutlet was thin and evenly cooked. I've had much better katsu, this one felt a little dry, lacked rich flavor, and the breading was sparse and not crunchy at all. However, it was a very filling meal, and I definitely had leftovers. To be honest, I loved the sides more than the cutlet. The rice was fluffy and the cabbage salad was refreshing. I also got a simple miso soup.

The curry chicken is very good for its value. $16 for generous amount of chicken and its thick and juicy. The double matcha was also very good, they use Marukyu Koyamaen Rindou and the matcha flavor was strong enough to my liking. Feels like they shredded a whole cabbage onto my plate! Definitely appreciated it with the sauce too. The chicken was so crispy. The sauce it came with was perfectly sweet too. The rice was incredibly soft but I do wish there was just a little bit more of it. This plate also came with a cup of warm miso soup. An incredible amount of delicious food for around 20 bucks. Well worth it. The ordering process was really simple. They'll call your number over the loud speaker so you don't have to be near the restaurant and can wait at your table. Really impressed with the quality and portions sizes. I will definitely be coming back!

The prices are super reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. The servings are HUGE. I can never finish everything in one sitting, so it basically turns into two meals in one (which I'm not complaining about haha). Their katsu is always perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Service is also pretty fast compared to other restaurants in the area, which I really appreciate when the food court gets busy. As for the ambiance, it's a small counter located inside a busy food court, and there are usually limited of seats available depending on the day. We've never had trouble finding a place to sit though! Definitely a solid go-to spot when you're at H Mart and craving something satisfying and filling!

The place definitely reminds me of smaller mom and pop shops in the South Bay. We had just had curry, so skipped the lunch special combos and went with the cold noodle and rice, with an extra kaarage. We also opted for the upgrade to so a noodles. Food was delicious; nothing fancy, just good cooking and good ingredients. The chicken was hella crispy and juicy, the noodles just the right texture, and my mini katsudon was so yum. Friend had the mini tempura rice bowl and that was also tasty. Can't wait to go back, and bring some of my own duckies for the restaurant.

They give you a light salad as an appetizer which is really airy and refreshing. The lunch specials are the best for the deals so try to go around that time! For cold noodle options they have ramen, udon, and my personal favorite soba! The portions of the soba are huge and the amount of different kinds of tempura is definitely filling (squid, shrimp, potato, carrot, cilantro). The sauce to dip the cold noodles in are perfectly balanced in flavor and comes with green onions and wasabi as an add on if you want! Atmosphere: cute place with very humble and on brand theme of ducks! They are all over the place even the restroom! Price: price is not bad for the amount of food you get, but would definitely try to go during lunch.

We decided to share the beef cutlet combo and the rice pot with soy sauce pork. I've had the beef cutlet combo before, and I was happy to see that the quality was still just as good as I remembered. This time, it was also my first time trying the rice pot dish, and I was actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The portion was generous and the flavor was very nice. The service was also very attentive throughout the meal. The servers regularly checked in and made sure to refill the fire gel for the hot stone grill whenever it started going out, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a solid meal and a place I'd definitely come back to again.
