as much as we enjoy mexican food - the one thing that will make us NOT RETURN is the service! We had three different people 'waiting' on us and yet no one knew what the other one was doing - from the order being messed up to extended long time to receive dessert and again with no one knowing and seemed shocked that we were still waiting - we were sitting outside on the patio which could explain 'out of sight' out of mind but still - they messed up on two orders one i think was a communication problem with the female waitress taking the 'beer' order and the other mess up was just a mess up on the side ordered. We've been going here for years and love it! It's quaint (built in 1919) and rustic so you're not going to find an upscale Mexican restaurant, but that's what makes it charming. First, the service is always wonderful - friendly and attentive yet they let you relax and visit. We're vegetarian and love that they have an entire section for vegetarians with selections that are fresh and delicious. So many Mexican restaurants' dishes are greasy, but Mariscos aren't, they're just pure, fresh and flavorful! Highly recommend Mariscos! read more

My new favorite Mexican restaurant in town! They are open for outdoor seating now too. Great atmosphere and staff. They were pretty busy on a Saturday so I would definitely recommend calling for reservations if you are a party with more than 6 people. First off I love their margaritas!! I ordered the Cadillac margarita and it was so good and refreshing. They have so many drinks to choose from. And for their food, there was sooo much more to pick from. It was great to have lots of options, I wanted to try everything haha. I ordered the Cazuela De Mariscos which was $17.50 it had - Fish, scallops, shrimp, clams, crab legs, green mussels, and octopus. It also came with your choice of tortillas, rice and beans! It was sooo good! The sauce the seafood was in was so amazing. I definitely recommend this dish. My husband ordered the Molcajete Pacifico that cost $19.99, this had Steak, grilled chicken, 2 shrimp wrapped in bacon fresh, grilled cactus, and fresh cheese. Super yummy too! Great portions here! The owners and staff at Mariscos are head and shoulders above most other restaurants in and around all of North County. While things cannot always be perfect, the attention to detail, food quality, consistency, drive to be better, focus on the customer are noticeable and greatly appreciated! Note - there are many Mexican style restaurants in the area and none measure up to Mariscos as often observed with lines out the door and no where to park. This was my 2d visit. I had the San Felipe fish tacos and all rice. Right down to the chips and salsa, everything tasted fresh and delicious. Parking can be an issue on a busy night. We parked on the street. Service was attentive and friendly. There was some noise but it wasn't disruptive or even close to preventing us from hearing each other. Everything is divine, from the friendly and attentive service to their unique spicy salsa, and their food which is obviously cooked with a lot of love. The food and service are good here! Here's the problem: There are TV's EVERYWHERE so you can't even avoid them, even on the patio where we'd like to sit to enjoy the garden setting, peace and quiet. The latest thing is the unisex bathroom. I don't have a problem with using the same bathroom but I do have a problem at the same time. Torn on which way to go with this review. BLUF: Really good food and friendly, would recommend and will go again. That said... Location: A little off from main street but much bigger than it looks from the outside. The parking lot is a little small but plenty of street parking so shouldn't be a problem. Ambiance: Very traditional especially outside seating. Wonderful atmosphere that makes you feel as if you're across the border. In many ways reminds me of home. Service: Welcoming with a smile and an attitude that aims to please. The time from ordering to meal was slow but the drinks are quite large and tasty, and go well with the chips while waiting. Food: Chips & salsa really good but not great. Although we really enjoyed the freshly made chips and salsa I prefer a little more crispy chips and more chunky salsa. For an appetizer we had the fried avacados and rolled tacos, which were tasty and will definitely order them again. I think if they fried a combination of a half jalapeno with the avocado it would be superfantastic! Still, recommend both. Due to the size of the appetizers we shared the Molcajete Pacifico, which was really good. Seafood wasn't over cooked but it could've used a bit more spice for my taste. Regardless, we all enjoyed the meal but in the future I will be trying something else because I can only give that dish a 4 star rating. Cleanliness: 4 of 5 for the floors and tables as they were a slightly sticky. The bathroom however - well that needed cleaning and fixing. One of the toilets didn't flush, trash needed emptying and really just a remodel. Because if it was supposed to resemble moist dirty cave they hit the mark. But if they wanted the rocky beach look they need to remodel. Overall: Good to great food, great drinks, fun and welcoming atmosphere and despite the bathroom issues it's still probably the best Mexican food for 25 miles. read more

This place was recommended to us by the owners of a nearby winery and we also happened to see the recommendation in the guest book at the farm where we were staying on our visit, so we had to check it out one night for dinner. Mariscos has been good to us in the past. My husband and I have order take out from them through postmates 3 times since Covid-19 and we have had nothing but problems. My husband is allergic to avocados so we request no quac and we put that he has an allergy. All three times they have loaded it with mostly guacamole. Hardly any meat. They have gotten worse every time. The only reason why we kept ordered from them is because we believed it to be a simple mistake. He cannot eat the $50 worth of food we ordered. I tried calling them and the line was busy. Tried calling again a little later and got a disconnected tone. I've tried calling before and they hung up on me. I have not been disrespectful because I understand people make mistakes but I'm really tired of it. read more
