What a wonderful find! Harlow Lounge is a quaint, cozy restaurant tucked away in a quiet and somewhat isolated area -- perfect for a relaxed evening out. The food is served in small, shareable portions, which makes it fun to try a little bit of everything. Every dish we had was excellent -- flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. The service was top-notch. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and to make the evening even more special, the chef came out personally to introduce himself and brought us dessert on the house! You don't see that kind of personal touch very often anymore. The setting is beautiful, but do keep in mind that the road leading out of the restaurant can be a bit windy -- so if you're planning to enjoy a few drinks, have a designated driver or take your time heading home. Overall, the experience was fantastic. Great food, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Price range is moderate ($$-$$$). If you live in or near Bonsall, I highly recommend checking out Harlow Lounge -- it's absolutely worth the visit! read more

Thanks to a bartender and her regulars at an Italian restaurant in Vista for putting Harlow's on our radar! Initially, I'd added Harlow's on our list of places to check out, but feeling adventurous -- and given we were already in the area -- we chanced getting in. Fortunately for us, there were 2 seats at the bar top! What an adventure for us to drive out there; located within what was once a golf course. From the moment you enter through the front door, it's old school luxury and elegance: low, dim lighting (some areas darker and more intimate than others); a variety of seating options, some with beautiful, plush furnishings and fascinating art & decor; classy vibe yet casual and comfortable. Very speakeasy. Entertainment is performed on select nights. The staff was wonderful! What a wild experience. Following the directions to this spot will make you certain you're just driving into the void. The ambiance inside is very cool and has a place out of time feel. Several different areas for dining yield different vibes, plus a cigar lounge. Service is always exceptional. Cocktails are excellent and used to be shockingly affordable but prices have been creeping up to San Diego proper prices of late. Charcuterie board is phenomenal. Short rib special when they have it is divine. Despite not being overjoyed by their gourmet take on game (I grew up on game so it's not a lack of exposure or expertise that makes me say this). We tell everyone about this spot and never hesitate to bring people here when a north county inland meetup location is left up to us. What a little hidden gem in Bonsall. This is a great spot for a date night or if the boys want to go have a cigar. We made a reservation and went in the evening, where we got to enjoy some really nice live music, and unique plates, such as rabbit, with pancetta, elk meat and fried Quail, just to name a few. The meatballs we got were made with boat, and were not as hot as I would've liked, so I think they were just reheated. But apart from that, everything did taste fresh and was made with great care and nice presentation. A little pricey for the amount of food but it makes sense with the ambiance, the unique proteins and the drinks were reasonably priced and spirit forward (: The whole vibe of the place is prohibition style, so if you wanted to dress up in 20s style clothing you could. Love the decor. Sat at the bar for food and drinks. Bartenders were great and ingredients tasted fresh. Only thing is I'd ask him to take the toothpick he was chewing out of his mouth. I know it added to his image but kinda grossed us out. Food was delicious but took a little too long for the amount of people there. It wasn't even 1/2 full at 6 pm on a Friday. The Market fish was delicious and love the presentation. The live music was great. Just wished the bar seats were a tad higher. read more

Ok... I know this sounds dumb, but who goes to a cocktail lounge and doesn't want alcohol in anything? Us... that's who! I found Harlow's online and decided to try it out for Friday night dinner with the family. It is an unassuming place on the outside, but so interesting on the inside. It is art deco'ish and really fun looking! So many of the dishes had infusions of alcohol, which of course should be expected since it's a cocktail lounge, but Jessica was our server and so wonderful and patient with us having to make adjustments to our orders and even took it upon herself to double check things and have things removed or altered that we didn't even think of. Even with the alterations, the food was fabulous! My husband had halibut with a salad, I had the crusted scallops and our daughter got the elk. The chef bent over backwards to make adjustments and wanted to make sure we were happy with how everything turned out... we definitely were! We would definitely go back! read more

Harlow's has great food, excellent service, and the ambiance is everything! The details, the decor! There are different areas: lounge, bar, restaurant, and private dining area. The location is great and there is ample parking, always a plus in my book. We have visited a few times, during different seasons, so we have tried different menus. Similar, but relative to season, seasonal ingredients, etc. Harlow's has some of the most delicious signature cocktails and many classics too. You can have some of the cocktails smoked for an additional charge. They have great local beers and many wines from California as well. There are a few dessert drinks, haven't tried any yet and non-alcoholic drinks as well. During our recent visit, there was live-entertainment. The live musician was Celeste Barbier. She is beautiful and has an incredible voice. True talent! It was so nice to hear local talent while enjoying delicious food and drink. Since it's now "autumn" we enjoyed the late summer/autumn menu. Some of the items are very similar to the previous menu, but reflect more seasonal ingredients/twist. We enjoyed the following items: Charcuterie board, elk, scallops, meatballs, duck breast, spring greens, and beet salad. We also tried the three desserts: Myrtle Berry Panna Cotta, Warm Pumpkin Spiced Bread Pudding, and Chocolate Avocado Mousse. All of the desserts were very different and full of flavor, the mousse was rich, but enjoyable and best shared. I highly recommend making a reservation or you'll end up waiting, but it is worth the wait. read more

It's one of those places where you don't mind driving further out because you'll be transported through time once you get there. If you're a cocktail lover, I thoroughly enjoyed the Pear tree. For food, my group of 4 ordered the quail, sole & NY strip specials, and the lamb shank and everyone enjoyed their meals with the lamb being the star. We also shared the carpaccio (a must for seafood lovers), wagyu sliders, and a large charcuterie board for appetizers. It was a lot of food for us, but for others expect European style size entree portions with high quality ingredients. Their menu is just as interesting as their decor with rotating big game entrees and I love how they have live music that fits the vibe. Harlow's is a beautiful gem in the town of Bonsall. It's a bit off the beaten path but is well worth the drive. The place is named after Jean Harlow and has a 1940's vibe. It's very inviting and employees treat you like family. We felt welcomed and comfortable within seconds of walking in. They had a great specialty drink menu. I had a Old fashioned that was smoked at the table. My wife had a Negroni. Both our drinks were fantastic. I take my mixed drinks seriously and the bartenders there are some of the best that I have seen. The menu is unique and limited. The food is meant to be shared. We ordered the Sea Scallops, Wild boar meatballs, and a salad. All three were unbelievably good. The salad was probably one of the best I have ever eaten. Overall, it was a great experience and will definitively go back to Harlow's when we are in the area. read more

Love the room! Very cool ambiance / vibe. Service is "spotty" at best. Takes too long to get a drink (timed it: 20 minutes). I have been here 4-5 times and every time, drink orders seem to lag! I have always left a little disappointed in service. Food is exceptional but really needs to expand or change a bit. Not everyone is going to always want the "exotics". My husband and I recently visited Harlow's for our anniversary. It has a cool speak easy vibe and the food was delicious. We had the shaved cucumber and stone peach salad to start, which was good and the elk for our main course. It was our first time having elk and it was very good... I only wish there was more! For dessert we had the passion fruit tart, which was okay, but the Myrtle Berry cheesecake was delicious! The waiter was really friendly and took his time in making recommendations. The bar tender also made my husband a custom drink he named a desert sunset, which he enjoyed. I had a non alcoholic New Zealand Sangria, which I enjoyed as well. This is definitely a cool restaurant/bar in Bonsall! The restaurant is dimly lit, with cool retro vibes. They also have live music here. Service was good & our servers were great. The dishes are definitely unique & you will see meats that you do not typically see like Elk. & they are meant to be shared so the portions are big. My first visit to Harlow's was for my birthday in August 2023! The only reason I knew about this eclectic, speak-easy like place is because at the time, my friend was on their calendar to sing on Fridays. I love a unique, little-known, gorgeous place and Harlow's fit the bill for that. Plenty to look at and I like that there were lots of places hidden away to sit with friends and enjoy a drink if you opted not to dine in the main restaurant area. You can definitely feel the energy of the past in this place. For some reason - the movie Dirty Dancing came to mind because the property was a golf course and gives off vintage resort vibes. Anyway, the music and ambience was A+ but I didn't enjoy the food. The cocktails were pretty and tasty but I am a plant-based eater who enjoys seafood but just wasn't feeling the food options. We shared a couple of items, I got a salad and could taste "meat" on the salad due to cross contamination on utensils- Yikes! I know they don't claim to be vegetarian friendly but having a couple of options would be nice! read more
