Mariscos Choix - Seafood Near Me - Downey, California

Amazing service all around from the staff, Eileen was amazing!!! Food was really good can't forget about that.

A Culinary Revelation: Mariscos Choix Sets a New Standard Mariscos Choix isn't just a meal; it's an experience--a vibrant, fresh, and unforgettable celebration of seafood. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was buzzing, but the true highlight, of course, was the food, which achieved a rare level of perfection that deserves every accolade. The main dishes we ordered (we had the Grilled Fish Fillet, Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo and the Tacos de Pulpo) were executed flawlessly. The fish was tender and flaky, The garlic in the Mojo De Ajo sauce was perfectly balanced and the tacos packed the perfect blend of heat and citrus. A special shout-out MUST go to our server, Samantha. Her attention to detail was superb, and her recommendations were spot-on! She expertly guided us toward the Tacos de Pulpito (baby octopus tacos), and they were a fantastic addition to our order--tender, expertly seasoned, and absolutely great. The Unsung Heroes: Rice and Beans However, what truly elevates Mariscos Choix above the rest are the details--specifically, the rice and beans. It sounds simple, but this is where the kitchen's mastery shines through. The rice was perfectly cooked: fluffy, individually separated grains, deeply infused with savory herbs and tomato, making it flavorful enough to eat entirely on its own. The beans were pure comfort. They were creamy, rich, smoky, and seasoned to absolute perfection. They weren't just a side dish; they were arguably the best part of the entire meal, demonstrating that incredible care is put into every single element served. The Divine Mariposa Cocktail: And let's not overlook the cocktails. The Mariposa cocktail was, in a word, divine. It was the perfect pairing for the bold seafood flavors--bright, intensely refreshing, and expertly mixed. It had a complex yet perfectly balanced sweetness and tang that made every sip a treat. If you visit Mariscos Choix, ordering the Mariposa is non-negotiable. Mariscos Choix is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking top-tier Mexican seafood. Come for the fresh catches, but stay for the surprisingly spectacular rice, the heavenly beans, and the divine Mariposa. We are already planning our return! read more

My friends and I (4 total) went here for dinner last night. The restaurant setting is very nice. They did a great job making it look like an upscale but inviting place. We sat in the covered but open "patio" area. Parking is a bit challenging. The restaurant is on a major street that does not allow street parking. The side street has a few street parking spots. I parked across the small side street in a lot of the adjacent retail center but not sure this is generally okay. Margaritas seemed to be their specialty. I asked about their beer selection, and nothing on draft, just a few brands of bottled beer. My friends and I decided to eat family style so we could try a variety of dishes: Chips & Salsa - 4/5: The house salsa is delicious (a bit on the spicy side). I thought the "chips" (they serve the whole fried tortilla that you can break into chips) were a bit thick and heavy. Ceviche Mitotero - 3/5: For me this was a miss. Some of it was fishy and the textures of the raw shrimp and scallops were not great. Octopus Tacos - 5/5: Wow, was this tasty. Perfectly cooked octopus and the accompaniments and sauce were perfect. Shrimp Tacos: I did not get to try this but my friends said it was as good as the octopus ones. Molcajete Mixto Caliente - 5/5: Quite the presentation! Mix of steak, chicken, bone marrow and bacon-wrapped shrimp comes out in a scorching hot stone bowl. Comes with tortilla and side of beans. Everything was very tasty even though it's a lot of mixture of various proteins. Overall, was very impressed with the restaurant and would look forward to going back. read more

Mariscos Choix is beautiful inside and out. It is large and has lovely decor inside. They maintain the place and it is always clean. Parking is easy. The food is wonderful. I would like to say it is Mexican food, but it is so much more than that. They also have a full bar and serve great cocktails. The Aguashiles negros are amazing. They even have churros. We love their salads and all their taco items. Their empanadas are the best in town. There is something for everyone here. The service is fast and friendly. read more

Mariscos Choix - Steak and drinks ! - Seafood Near Me - Downey, California

Food is good., place is nice, atmosphere is vibrant. The only negative issue is that it seems they push drinks on you , even tho you haven't ordered them. They would take them back, but watch out they will still charge you. So be careful when paying. Double check your receipt bill. Refund will never come if you don't do it in the spot. read more

Mariscos Choix - One dozen of oysters and a tostada Mixta - Seafood Near Me - Downey, California

My wife and I were craving mariscos real bad the other night and because we hadn't gone back to mariscos choix since the new and improved establishment, we decided let's give it a try after a a year or two hehe , It's a BEAUTIFUL restaurant, right side was a bit more quiet the left had music going , Heaters where aligned the top with cute plant deco . The menu was in full Spanish , and I must say i was a bit taken back buy the menus up charge (mind yall I went before the restaurant updated its appearance and expanded into the small parking lot that was provided before ) so remembering the prices before and seeing them now I was like HOLY COW ! but my wife insisted since we never come to restaurant to get whatever I wanted , I was a big fan of the tacos sinaloenses , big juicy shrimp tacos so good ! So I was familiar and ordered again , my wife started us with Botana Camaron con pulpo and ordered tacos de pulpo Zarandeados (both taco orders were an order of 3 ) The botana camaron was SO GOOD a well portioned plated very spicy and overall my favorite part of the meal , But I was so disappointed in my order of tacos The SIZE has most definitely shrunk , I mean I remember eating hearty large tacos , these were far from that . Served with one slice of avocado for the price of 21.99 , 3 tacos !! My wife loved her tacos and they were the same size as mine also 21.99 I also ordered a burro Rojo and would highly recommend for a little drink , Although it was a decent meal unfortunately the portion size don't match the price and for that I have to skip by next dinner time read more

This review is brought to you by "Las Hermanas." I brought my sister to Mariscos Choix to celebrate her birthday. We enjoyed the outdoor seating and the tropical ambience. The food was good but the Michelada was a bit watery. I'm not sure if I would order the michelada here again. A saving grace was Lupita. She brought over Marisco Choix's signature drink, "Escalade." Check out the video to see why it's called "D' Escalade". Enjoy! Prices: $$ Food: Yum! Drinks: $$ Michelada / "Escalade" read more

One of my girls took me here to have dinner yesterday, It was my first time coming here since I am from the IE not really sure what's out here and I was extremely happy she introduced me to this place. I will be coming back again and again even if it's a drive . The seafood was delicious and I will say that I have not had a place that has Mariscos where everything tastes sooooooo fresh in a long time . The Micheladas were so tasty . Oyster shots were bomb!!! The hostess in the front was super sweet , the bartenders were amazing went above and beyond. The manager Raymond I would like to especially thank for being so kind and amazing at making us feel welcomed and taken care of .... Did not leave disappointed whatsoever. While we waited for our table at the bar he kindly took our drinks to our table and made sure we liked the seating before we decided to move from the bar . Beautiful set up around the restaurant and they have live Banda . The men waiters were all so kind and attentive but the girl waitresses I will say unless you were guys at a table they were not the friendliest or cared to help us that was my only concern I believe no matter your gender everyone should be treated equally and made to feel welcomed ! If you have not tried this place you are missing out please come try this amazing place for yourself. read more

Well I've been here several times before and now that they totally remodeled the place I decided to come back now that it's been remodeled . Ambiance - they go for a tulum type feel like so many restaurants now a days. It's nice decor but music is pretty loud so if you're looking for a nice romantic quiet dinner this is not the place . They have a band most of the time on the weekends. Which makes it hard to see what they're going after since they have TV screens all over . They tried making it a Banda restaurant/ sports bar but you can't hear the band or watch the game due to noise level . The waiting area is bigger than the restaurant and while they serve beer is you want to wait that's all. So you can't go to the bar and wait since it's not open . Service - the service is chaotic they have all these managers walking around and giving different orders . They need to have managers 1 in each are and that's it . They confuse the staff and it's not fair for them . The servers don't come back to see if you need anything they just take your order then come back to charge that it . I had to flag someone down . Drinks - save your money the margaritas while good are $20.00 for a small glass and it's all ice . They don't have a full bar so I couldn't order my drink of choice . Over priced drinks Food- now this is the best part of the place because the food is actually really good. We had tacos sinaloense, ostiones preparados , campechana all delicious and just had the right amount of flavor and spice . Overall they get 3 stars due to their food . If they can fix the kinks out of the restaurant and open the bar and exude what they want or be a sports bar or a Mexican sea food restaurant this can be a great spot . The food is good so I would come back but only for the food. read more

Pair that with the great atmosphere--lively, welcoming, and full of good vibes--and you've got the perfect dining spot. Big shoutout to Carlos for making the experience even better. Service - My family and I had the greatest experience as our first time. Our waiter Kevin was awesome and helped explained the menu and popular items. The hostesses and manager was very nice. Food - Ordered aguachile negro, shrimp ceviche, shrimp and fish tacos, marlin empanadas and dozen oyster. All was delicious, but our favorite was the augachile negro. Drinks were excellent. Ambiance - Great interior decor and there was a live band playing. Definitely great for hangouts, parties, date night or special events. read more
