The ambiance is nice for Downey. With the Christmas decorations it's giving department store vibes. I started my Mariscos Choix relationship a few years back at the Pico Rivera location. Hole in the wall but the Best Mexican Food I have ever had! So I'm thinking the Downey location with the remodel will be even better. Sad to say, no. I took a friend here recently and I couldn't stop talking about the golden shrimp tacos & taco gobernador. Unfortunately, the sinaloenses came out soaked in butter but not crispy. So just soggy and both tacos were extremely salty. The flavor profile of the drinks tasted off too. I was embarrassed how much I hyped this place up. And this is my 3rd time at this location, and each time the food got me thinking, it's missing the magic touch. I wish this location spent more time training with the Pico cooks rather than focusing on decor. Even though I live up the street from the Downey location, I don't think I can geek about this restaurant unless it's the Pico location. Please figure out what the cooks are doing over there, and I will be back. read more

A wonderful and surprising roadside spot in Pico Rivera -- fine dining in a casual atmosphere. Plenty of patio seating, friendly and attentive service, and phenomenally good food. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny: the beautifully prepared servings are huge, and beach city diners will be accustomed to paying more for much less. The delicately fried fish chicharones are a great shared appetizer, or a full meal in themselves. In three visits, I've ordered several different shrimp dishes and sushi rolls, and every one has been a winner. Printed menu is mostly in Spanish -- but with lots of photos, on-line bilingual menu and the helpful staff, my English-speaking parties had no trouble getting all the delicious food we could eat. Had lunch here today to celebrate my 40th bday with my cousin. The restaurant is so nice. The food was delicious. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. We ordered lemonade (very fresh and has a hint of lime flavor) shrimp empanadas, Baja fish tacos and the fajitas with steak, shrimp and fish- the fish used in the fajitas is sooo so good seasoned and full of flavor. The outside of the fish is crispy and inside is fluffy and very delicious. Our server Alondra was so nice and helpful during our visit. Honestly the service was some of the best service I've had in a very very long time. She was very attentive and checked on us frequently to ensure everything was good. She was also helpful with helping us pick out food because it was first time we wanted to try some of the most popular items on the menu. After we finished our lunch they also brought me out a ice cream Sundae and sang happy bday. Which was a really nice and unexpected surprise. The Manager Raymond stopped by our table and spoke to us before we left and asked how did we enjoy our visit and how we heard about the restaurant and I told him I found them on yelp thanks to the positive reviews. Where do I start... everything g here is top notch. The service, the ambiance and the star of the show.. the food. I had a fish fillet with "cucaracha" shrimp on top in a garlic sauce that I could have easily drank with a straw and a green salad. I'm on Keto and this was perfect. Well I've been here several times before and now that they totally remodeled the place I decided to come back now that it's been remodeled . Ambiance - they go for a tulum type feel like so many restaurants now a days. It's nice decor but music is pretty loud so if you're looking for a nice romantic quiet dinner this is not the place . They have a band most of the time on the weekends. Which makes it hard to see what they're going after since they have TV screens all over . They tried making it a Banda restaurant/ sports bar but you can't hear the band or watch the game due to noise level . The waiting area is bigger than the restaurant and while they serve beer is you want to wait that's all. So you can't go to the bar and wait since it's not open . Service - the service is chaotic they have all these managers walking around and giving different orders . They need to have managers 1 in each are and that's it . They confuse the staff and it's not fair for them . The servers don't come back to see if you need anything they just take your order then come back to charge that it . I had to flag someone down . Drinks - save your money the margaritas while good are $20.00 for a small glass and it's all ice . They don't have a full bar so I couldn't order my drink of choice . Over priced drinks Food- now this is the best part of the place because the food is actually really good. We had tacos sinaloense, ostiones preparados , campechana all delicious and just had the right amount of flavor and spice . Overall they get 3 stars due to their food . If they can fix the kinks out of the restaurant and open the bar and exude what they want or be a sports bar or a Mexican sea food restaurant this can be a great spot . First time coming here. I work in Downey and I've passed by this place many times. Finally had a chance to eat here. We arrived and they sat us down right away. Our servers came and took our orders. They gave us a red napkin and we asked why and they explained to us since we are new they want to make sure you ask questions if you have any. The manager stopped by multiple times to see how everything was going and we said everything is going well. He even gave us a return card for a free appetizer. We ordered the octopus tacos which we're very delicious, the mix ceviche which was good and the mix fajitas platter which came with steak, chicken, fish and shrimp with mixed veggies and side of rice and beans. Stopped in at Mariscos Choix for a quick couple drinks before heading to the movie theater and was pleasantly surprised. The vibe seemed amazing and we would have loved to stay longer if we didn't already have plans. We sat at the bar and received amazing serving from a wonderful bartender named Stephanie who made our experience amazing, she really made us feel comfortable and like we were the only people there. They have an amazing selection of tequila and mezcal and my girl loved their signature cocktails. What can be said about Mariscos Choix? It's always great. The food at this location is great just like the one I usually go to in Pico Rivera. The service is always top notch. The ambience is really nice at this one because the restaurant is a little bigger (a lot bigger, actually). My waiter was great. Moises was absolutely great with us. Real attentive and communicative. Moises made the evening special for us. Only one thing! One negative about this spot. No sushi. I love my sushi rolls from Mariscos Choix. But I understand why they don't have them at this location.
