I love this place! Samantha went above and beyond for us! It was my friends birthday and the food as always was amazing

I have been coming here for years. I last came here on a Friday night. There was no wait, which was nice because the previous times there's always a wait. FYI there's the option to join the waitlist if you look them up on Google instead. There was a live grupo playing which is something known about this place. It's always been a place where you can go enjoy some live music and have some drinks. I have however noticed that they have different groups that play here, but I've noticed it's been a while that I've heard a grupo that was actually good and it's usually the vocalists. In their defense everything seems to have changed everywhere after the pandemic. I've tried their fresh tostadas and that's always been good as well as the tacos. But this time I ordered the empanas with shrimp and cheese and honestly there was nothing special about them, too much tortilla not enough filling. They taste less like empanadas and more like tortillas with shrimp and cheese. Lastly, the service has always been a bit slow. Even though the servers are very friendly, it seems their kitchen and bar may be understaffed because ordering a second drink means it may never come. Which is what happened Friday. I would still come back and perhaps stick with what I liked but the place is not what it used to be, but like I said most places aren't after the pandemic. read more

Food was amazing! Everything tasted so fresh! We got the molcajete 10/10. Shrimp empanadas were the star of the show! And can't go wrong with the aguachiles! André was our server and he was so attentive! Went above and beyond to make sure everything was superb. The vibe of the restaurant was also great from the hostess to the manger. read more

Found nearby street parking on a Friday evening and I could hear the live music as I exited the car. Walked in and was greeted by the super friendly staff and security. We decided to sit outside and within minutes, the live moving band started playing, which made conversation impossible. We were near the speakers and it was crazy loud. The band takes requests and will play around your table if you'd like. The resteraunt itself is adorable and it appears inside seating may be best for those wishing to have a conversation. Chips and salsa were brought by our waiter, who was pretty attentive. Unfortunately, the chips were too hard and cold. We shared the Molcajete which included steak, chicken, bacon wrapped shrimp, bone marrow, cheese, cactus, cilantro, green onion, and salsa. A small side of beans, rice, and tortillas are also included. This dish was a 5/5, with the steak and salsa being my favorite. Seasoned and cooked perfectly, the dish arrived steaming. The price for this dish was listed as market price. We got the bill and thought that this dish was way overpriced at around $50. For that price, the portion size should have been bigger. It appears the entertainment is included in the price. It was definitely an experience, but I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

The ambiance was the only think I enjoyed. They had mariachi and location is nice. Food isn't all that. Long wait. The cóctel de camarón y pulpo 1/5 no flavor, aguachile rojo 1/5 taste like pure oregano, aguachile negro 3/5 it's ok but the limón was bitter, micheladas 3/5 limon was bitter (amargoso) . Ceviche mitotero 2/5. Signed up for the waiting list online & when arrived host said it would be a 40min wait, turned into 90 minute wait and they were not serving hot plates because kitchen was down(power). It's pricy, bill came out to $286 for 6 people, the large party gratitude is included but the waiter hand selects the tip add on when paying so watch out for that. read more

Samantha was great, great service, great personality. Very attentive. Will come back!

Not my first time here and definitely not my last! Mariscos Choix in Downey always delivers when it comes to flavor, quality, and service. Every visit feels like a treat, and I keep coming back for one dish in particular: the Molcajete Mixto Caliente. This thing is a feast! It comes loaded with NY steak, grilled chicken, longaniza sausage, bacon-wrapped shrimp, grilled bone marrow, cactus, cheese, avocado, tomato, and green onion--all simmering in their rich and savory molcajete sauce. It's served with rice, beans, and warm tortillas, making it the perfect combo of bold flavors and comforting sides. Everything is cooked to perfection, and the presentation is impressive--served piping hot in a traditional stone molcajete. It's perfect for sharing, but honestly, I could tackle it solo too. The vibe at the restaurant is always lively, and the staff makes you feel right at home. If you're craving something hearty and packed with flavor, the Molcajete Mixto Caliente is a must-try. I'll definitely be back again soon! read more

I don't usually like to write reviews but this place has become more and more stingy with their portions. Their cóctel de camarón is really good, I always order to go and they used to fill the container and now look at this. All bad this is the last time I buy from here they lower the portions but not the price. read more

Wanted to share my 1st time back experience since the remodel & we had an amazing experience, starting of with the hostess friend & welcoming. Samantha our waitress hands down, she took care of us from drink, appetizers & meal choices. Very friendly, knowledgeable & good listener. We also had the privilege of having our food served by Chef Sergio; suggested a special salsa for my Tacos de Marlin & my honeys 10/10 (on both of our orders) Everything looked nice & clean & very modern. Didn't have the opportunity to check the bar out but it did look nice. We decided to go back for a celebration last night. We had a reservation at 6pm for 9ppl. Amazing food and drinks as usual. Only issues we had was about the ac in the private room. It was too cold and when I asked one of the servers he said they couldn't do anything about it because the rest had to be at a certain temp. The women's bathroom in the big stall was dirty. I told the manager it didn't have anymore toilet paper... lastly, our server mentioned to us that the manager had asked her if we were about to leave. We were still eating and drinking. We were still consuming. Our bill was $800+. I asked her if we needed to leave and she said no, it was ok. Then why would you even mentioned it to us in the first place. No hospitality whatsoever. Never ask a costumer if they're about to leave, very rude! Especially because we had invited some very special guests. I know gratuity was included and tipped her extra... hopefully next time, they'll have a better understanding on how to treat people better. Don't judge by the book by its cover. I work in the same industry and made us all feel awkward.... read more

Samantha was the best host!! Had a great experience at mariscos choix!! Recommend Samantha customer service!! 100

We arrived on a busy Saturday at 6:30p.m. and snagged street parking quickly, thanks to a friendly security guard who even guided us to an open space. Inside, the host seated our party of two immediately--always a pleasant surprise on a weekend. Food * Empanadas (cheese‑filled) - Unfortunately, these were a miss. The filling tasted like it had been fried in leftover seafood oil, leaving an off‑putting flavor. I'd skip them. * Marisco de camarón - Generous shrimp portion, but otherwise unremarkable. I requested no onions and still found some, though not enough to send it back. * Ceviche de camaron y pulpo tostada - My husband loved it; bright and fresh. * Tacos Sinaloense - The star of the night. Perfectly seasoned and a must‑order next time. * Drinks - My first choice was unavailable, but the substitute piña colada was creamy and well‑balanced. Husband's beer was, well... beer. Service Our waitress was pleasant but stretched thin; we had to flag her down to order a take out and a drink. When we did get her attention, requests were handled promptly. Atmosphere & Price Lively vibe with loud live music--great if you're in the mood for it, less so if you want conversation. Décor is casual coastal with a big open window. . Prices felt a bit high for the overall execution, but not outrageous. Bottom line We had a decent evening, but only the tacos stood out. I might return just for those, yet with so many seafood spots around, Marisco's Choix wouldn't be my first pick. read more

We've gone back now a few more times. To be honest, the second time we came back they asked if they could take the chair that I was using when I went to the restroom despite my plate and drink being right there. And we just thought it was funny how something always happens. But we still came back again a couple times after that because we like how the place looks, the decor is nice, the place is very clean, it's not overly noisy, good atmosphere, and it's very close by. Well trying other things on the menu, the food was good! Better than we initially thought the first time we went. Especially the octopus tacos that's our favorite now. And the last couple times we went the waiter was actually very friendly, personable, and we felt the service was great. We'll definitely be back again and we're glad we didn't let the first couple mishaps keep us away. read more

Couldn't figure out if they had a parking lot or not, but ended up parking in the supermarket lot. Ordered a little bit of this, a little bit of that, everything was great. Our server was very attentive which was an added plus. Out of all the items we ordered, my favorite was the mojarra frita, cooked to perfection, with big chunks to rip off and eat w a tortilla. Looks like a great atmosphere during the weekend or evening dinner. Will come again soon! read more
