Mario is fantastic. He altered a bridesmaid dress, skirt, and jacket for me during the holidays (Dec 22) in a day. He does great work and will work hard to get your stuff back to you as soon as possible! His prices are extremely fair and affordable; but most of all he will do a great job and fix what needs to be done until you're happy! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE! If you have a quality suit, DO NOT go to this place to get it fitted. I went into Mario's with a nice, fully canvassed suit I had just purchased to get a quality fit. As I walked in the door, Mario asks how much I paid for my new suit. When I told him the price, he immediately indicates that I "got taken". Keep in mind that this is before I even take my suit out of the suit bag! How can you tell the quality of a suit without seeing or touching it??? He then proceeds to inform me that he can sell me one of his suits for approx. $400 that is of much better quality than the one I purchased. Given that I had just purchased a new suit, I politely told him no. The suit was a Mantoni suit. Later that night, I went on the Internet just to learn a little about this brand as I was unfamiliar with it. It turns out that you can buy these suits retail on the Internet for $150 to $200. Even worse, they are of fused construction, and in no way on the level of the fully canvassed suit I brought in for alterations. I should have walked out right then and there, but since Mario generally had good reviews on this site for his tailoring, I continued to let him fit me for my new suit. A few days later, I went to pick up the suit. I was on my way to a pressing engagement, and did not have the chance to try it on in the store. Later that evening, I tried on the jacket and pants. To my dismay, the sleeves were 1 inch...yes 1 inch too long. Even worse, the sleeves had not been properly tapered. They were way too wide through the forearms and especially too wide at the wrists. At this point, I wasn't happy, but figured I would give Mario a call to see if he could make some adjustments to, at a minimum, alter the sleeves to the correct length. While on the phone, Mario proceeds to give me a story about how the jacket was too big, and can't be altered. Funny that I have not had this problem with any of my other suits in this size. He then proceeds to tell me that I should just wear it a while. I am not going to wear a suit that doesn't fit. At this point, I hop in my car to head over there to get things straightened out. Half way there, my senses come to me, and I realize that I really don't want Mario touching my new suit anymore, and decide to cut my losses short. I then drove over to a quality tailor in Birmingham, who..yep, you guessed it, recommended shortening the sleeves by appox. 1 inch, as well as tapering the sleeves to take out the significant slack left in by Mario. The reviews on this site state that Mario has excellent prices. His prices are cheap, but, in my opinion, you get what you pay for. I went to Mario because I needed a quality suit fitted, and because he was 10 minutes away from my office. A cheap price means nothing if the work is not satisfactory, and in the end, I needed to pay another tailor to properly fit the suit. He clearly did not want to be bothered with resolving the issue, and therefore does not stand behind his work. I'll finish the review as I began...If you have a quality suit you need fitted, DO NOT take it to this place! It will just cost you in the long run. read more

I freaking love this guy. I took a dress and a skirt to him and he did a BEAUTIFUL job. Also, he's honest. I had a pair of pants that I wanted him to take in and he was willing to do it, but explained how bad it would look. As everyone else stated, Mario is the man! I went to him to have a suit altered that just a little too big for me. I needed the suit for the funeral of the unfortunate passing of my fiancés mother. While I was in the shop being measured by Mario, I received the call that she had died. I had asked Mario if he could have the suit ready for me in a couple days and while he wasn't sure it was possible, he would do his best to try and get it done for me. While grieving over the loss of my fiancés mother, Mario called me to tell me he finished my suit, IN 3 HOURS. I cannot tell you how elated I was when he called as the suit needed extensive repair and alteration to the tune of $96.00. When I came to pick up the suit, Mario was so kind and aware of the situation, he even gave me a free black and purple tie, because I told him the deceaseds favorite color was purple! Mario treated me like we had been friends for years, even though we had just met 24 prior! He does all this on his own, he has no employees!! This guy is amazing and I wish I could give him more stars. Stop reading this review, get into your car and drive to Mario, you won't regret it, just remember that he is CASH ONLY! read more

Read the reviews, needed a couple of medical scrubs altered because if you're in that line of work, you might be able to relate to having a regular length but it being extra long. Anyhow, I asked him how long it might take, I went in there around 11 am on a saturday morning, I asked if it was possible if it could get done today because he already had a line of people getting their suits altered.. he said, why don't you come back around 3? Went back a little earlier than 3 and my scrubs were all ready, just waiting for me on their back counter. Mario Tailoring and Alterations sets the bar for great customer service. read more

Mario really does great work! He honestly knows what he's doing and gets it done in a timely fashion. I recently bought two suits that didn't fit as well as I liked. I originally brought them to a competitor tailor and she said she wouldn't be able to alter them. But I heard about Mario and decided to bring my suits to him brought him after the fact. He was not only able to alter them both (2 coats/2 pants) but he was finished in a matter of a few days. He's very personable and is looking out for the best of his customers. Mario is a very good tailor, he works fast and his prices are fair. I'm really into tailoring and have most of what I wear altered at least a little. I was going to another tailor in town faithfully for years but felt the quality was inconsistent and the prices seemed to be going up all of the time. I've now had my last three alterations done by Mario and I don't feel the need to look anywhere else. Give him a shot. read more

Brought jeans in for tapering, did a great job. Bought a suit from him, great fit, great look. Brought about 7 shirts in for tapering, he measured one of them on me, and when I got them back, 4 of them where too small. Called the NEXT day and told him, and he said bring them in. Brought them back about 3 weeks later (I was out of town), and he tells me there's nothing he can do, and the problem is that I gained weight!... which I did not. Bought a dress shirt from him, that fit perfect around the neck, but was too big otherwise. He told me to take it home and wash it, and if it was still too big he'd taper it for $8. I brought it back for the tapering, he has me try it on, takes one look at me and says it'll be done next week. I ask him if he wants to pin it, and he says in a very cocky tone "No, I'm a tailor not a carpenter". He had a another customer there looking at a suit, so he didn't want to bother with the 3 MINUTES it would've taken to pin the shirt. I pick it up a few days later and it's too tight! He tells me it's perfect and I owe him $10 (he originally told me $8)! He's very talented and skilled, but his cockiness, arrogance, and customer service are horrible. I really did not like this establishment. I called ahead of time to see if they took in dresses. I have a bridesmaids dress that needed to be taken in a size or two because I lost weight and I have a small waist. I come in after he said on the phone they take dresses in and he asked oh you need your dress hemmed??, go try it on. I did and when I came out he was like oh no I don't do that. I said what, and he said that he will not take dresses in the like 1.5 dress sizes that I would need. He said nope I don't do that and said sorry and kinda walked away I'm like.....uhhh ok. He pinned my dress to show me how much I needed to be taken in, which I knew was a bit, just to say yeah that's a lot of work and I don't do it. Ok, I just drove 30 minutes to come see you, left empty handed, and he gave me no reference for where I could get the work done. He was done with me. Soooo basically if you want to buy a suit that's a couple of years old or want to get your pants hemmed then come here, if you need something else go to another place. read more

I decided to go to Mario's after reading the Yelp reviews, but WOW was this an appalling experience. I drove over to the shop, but was confused exactly where the location was. Sitting in a parking lot on Rochester between 16 & 17, I called Mario for directions. He was immediately rude and started interrogating me - asking if I had called in advance, told me the shop was closing, and demanded to know what I was bringing in. (It was 5:30, an hour before closing time according to Yelp, and a half an hour before he said he would close.) When he found out I needed a bridesmaids' dress hemmed, he told me he wasn't wiling to meet with me because it "took too long to do those dresses, you know, because you have to chalk it up and stuff." After I told him I'd find another tailor, he got even more rude and argued with me more about calling in advance. When I turned my car around, his shop was just down the other side of the road. I was literally within sight of his shop and could have been in the door as a customer if he had simply been polite enough to tell me what buildings his shop was located next to. read more
