Today I had to replace a missing button on a coat I need to wear on a business trip this afternoon. I went to two other local small clothes alternation stores which rejected me because they did not have time for making $5-8 in a hurry. The young lady at Needle&Thread patiently received me and helped me pick a button most similar to what I have on the coat and finished the job within 5 minutes for me when I told her I was in a real hurry. I called in to correct an order submitted through lululemon and when I called back with ticket number they hung up on me every time I called. I've called at least 10 times. Terrible customer service. The alterations are phenomenal. However, it is located in Somerset mall therefore, I believe the price is a little high for a fixed income! I took my husband's north face jacket there he burnt a hole in, and I asked them to put a patch on it. They did a fabulous job. Customer Service was OK and there was quite a bit of a wait however, I guess if you're good at your job, there can be a long weight because it's hard to find a good alteration place. The convenience of Somerset where I purchased several items from Lilly Pulitzer makes it somewhere. I will go back to again again. read more

Bottom line - my dress is fine but took 2 trips there to get it right, so that was pretty annoying. I took in a long gown to be hemmed as well as suit pants for my bf. At the fitting for my dress the owner put in one pin on the top layer and one pin on the bottom layer. I asked how he would get the hem correct, he assured me it would be fine. 3 weeks later I pick up my dress and take it home and try it on. I am 100% sure my dress was not hemmed. It was still 2-3 inches long all the way around and the hem was crooked just like it was when I took it in. I took it back and said it's not right. This time they had a fitter who used pins and chalk all the way around on both layers. Picked up 4 days later and it's fine. My bf's pants, same thing. He pinned one side only. I asked about the butt because I thought it looked baggy, he said we'll fix it. But - he did not mark it or put pins in. When my bf tried them on I think they're still a bit baggy and you can tell the butt was not fixed - after all, how would anyone know to fix them? They weren't pinned or marked. Unlike me he's decided to live with it and didn't want to go back for another fitting. After all - every trip is time wasted - to the mall, change clothes, get fitted, leave clothes drive to and from. One trip should be enough. So the price was reasonable - but took 2 trips for my dress and I don't think my bf's pants fit well. read more

I have been a customer of Sam's for a few years now I have never met a soul like his! Not only is he incredible at what he does he's also very reasonable and extremely knowledgeable. I have needed things in 2 days and he has made it happen with no problem. He understands the emergencies of it all and does what he can to keep his customers beyond satisfied. I've lived in Miami, Denver and Bloomfield Hills and Sam is by far the best tailor I've ever gone to! The quality of work is exceptional and there is no repair that they can't accommodate. I've had suits tailored, pant waists let out, collars increased a size, large dress shirts made to fit and even sweaters re-sewn. Every single time I've been absolutely thrilled with the result. There is no comparison to the attention to detail and quality that they provide. After buying a few suits from Bachrach I need some alterations done in a pinch and did not have 3 days to wait for it to be done in store. A quick phone call to Needle and Thread Alterations and Sam, the owner, graciously agreed to do the alterations right away for me. The shop is sort of hidden in the basement of Somerset, to be honest I never knew it existed despite having worked at this mall for several years. There is a large waiting room and several changing rooms. Sam clearly takes a great deal of pride in what he does and he is definitely an expert at his trade. My alterations came out just as I wanted, with meticulous attention to detailed that is unparalleled by other shops. I will definitely be returning. I want to start off with praising Needle and Thread Alterations at the Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan. Let me tell you why I think ever so highly of this wonderful family business. I got married on Friday July 7, 2017 and I had picked up my dress from my tailor the Saturday before my wedding. I had tried it on, but did not have a floor length mirror to see myself. So I thought everything was fine. Paid an outrageous amount for the work and went on my way. The Wednesday before my wedding (52 hours before) I tried my dress on one more time and was absolutely devastated. The chest area was extremely large. My sisters and I had tried a few different things to try and make it work, knowing that there was not a chance in heck that any tailor would take on the project. After hours of trying to problem solve, I had called two tailors and no one answered, so I gave it one more chance, and Sam Rifai's (who owns Needle and Thread) son Michael had answered. I explained my situation to him pretty frantically and he told me to be in there in an hour and a half to see what he could do. So I went in for my appointment, now 49 hours from the moment I walked down the aisle, put my dress on and instantly Michael and the seamstress saw the problem, the chest was caving in on the sides and it was way too loose. The seamstress had told me the amount of work that needed to be done, darts needed to be put in the sides and cups needed to be added to the chest. In order to put the darts in, the beading across the top needed to be taken off and then resewn on. The amount of work would normally be a three week job, if they were only working on my dress. They both had agreed to take on the job, with less than two days until I needed my dress. I had talked to Michael about pricing and he said that he would let me know once the work was done. First of all, I was amazed that they had even agreed to take on the project. We had discussed me picking my dress up on Friday at 11:00 am, the day of my wedding. So I left the store at 3:30pm on Wednesday feeling pretty relieved, but still very nervous, knowing that there wasn't much time and the store closed at 7:00pm. The following morning at 11:00 am, I got a call saying that I needed to come in and try my dress on because it was done. I went in with my mom and best friend to try my dress on, put it on and I broke into tears. My dress was absolutely PERFECT! My dress was completed to perfection in less than 19 hours, with the store being closed for 15 of those hours. So after spending $350 for alterations that were not right, I was afraid of what the price would be, especially with how quickly and perfectly things were done. I went to the counter with my dress and credit card in hand. Once we were up there, Michael had told us that we were all set, which of course let to waterworks from all three of us that were in attendance. After 19 hours of worry on my end and work on their end, putting every other project on hold, they had waived all costs. I specifically remember him saying "This is not about the money, all I want is for you to have the best day of your life." In that moment, the people of Needle and Thread became family. I am so beyond grateful for them and what they did. They literally saved my wedding day. I will forever be thankful for this loving and kind gesture. Needle and Thread has created a customer for life, any alterations that my family, friends or myself ever need, will be taken to them, no matter the cost. read more
