Was saving up multiple items that needed tailoring for my petite frame. Decided to try this place because of all the 4.9 star reviews! Amy altered all 3 of my items in one week for $50. I just tried them on when I got home and they fit great and look perfect! Velvet pants - hemmed Black pants - hemmed and they were WAY too tight in the thighs and Amy did some kind of magical thing with the seam where she used a seam ripper to rip something out. Now they are still a little tight but actually wearable (going in I didn't think she'd be able to do anything about the tightness) White shirt - she cut and resewed the front panel onto the mesh so that it would fit my smaller bust. Before, there was way too much of the mesh part and I couldn't wear it because I couldn't exactly fill it up lol Thank you Amy!!!! Please give her business a try. I'm definitely returning for my future petite needs! read more

I was staying at my aunt's house in Sterling Heights and needed to catch a flight to New York and forgot that I had some jeans that I needed hemmed right away. I did a yelp search and looked for the closest ones that were open and chose Amy silver thimble because of the name and the wonderful reviews. I quickly called to see if she was able to do it on the spot and she right away was like come by. Just make sure you bring cash or check because I don't take credit. I went over there and not only was she friendly she was giving and thoughtful and caring and did such a perfect job in less than 30 minutes. I was in and out. Turns out she's from Iraq and even got her degree in sewing. She even gave us this plant that she was growing to plant in our garden. I've just never experienced anything like this and the price was perfect for what was offered. I highly recommend using amy and not to look at anyone else for your alteration needs. read more

It's January. I'm from down south and had to make an emergency trip to Warren for family. While here, the zipper on my only jacket stuck shut. Folks here recommend Amy's Silver Thread, so I followed their advice. I'm so pleased with the work and the heartfelt interaction with the woman who took care of me. She fixed my problem on the spot, so I left with a fixed jacket and a warm heart. A great value as well. Beautiful experience! read more

My sister in law and I brought my wedding dress to be altered on 7/29/23. Amy told me to try my dress on. Once on, I explained to her that I would need the length altered and some lace sewn into the cleavage area to be more modest. There was very minimal alterations to be done. She told me "no problem". She then began cutting the length of my dress which had several layers. I was never notified of the cost before she began cutting the layers. While she was cutting she was bossing my sister in law around as if she were her assistant; "get my pin cushion", "hold this" "pull that". She then told me that I needed cups sewn into my dress to lift my breasts. I told her that the DDD cups that she was showing me were too small as Im a 36J. She replied with "its ok, its fine" insisting that I needed them. I was "ok" with this experience as she came highly recommended, until the judgmental questions started. "Is this your second marriage?" "Oh its your first? But you told me you had a 12 year old son?" "Is he the Father?" She then went on and on about being married to her husband at 16 and having kids after. I've never felt so judged in my life. I was willing to forget about it and not say anything as she came very highly recommended. When we were finished with the cutting and pinning, she explained to me that it would take 5 weeks and would cost 600.00. I thought that price was quite high but agreed because I didn't know the rate of alterations. When I came to pick my dress up, I asked to try the dress on. She told me that I could not and to take it home, if there were issues she was there and would be happy to fix things. Mind you, there wasn't a customer in the store. She wasn't even helping anyone or busy. I was annoyed by this because what bride doesn't try their dress on in store at their fitting?! I felt the entire situation was shady, and to no surprise when I got home my dress looked awful. The sewn in cups were about 2 inches in difference. I looked visably lopsided. There were indentations through the middle of my breasts. The bottom of the dress was never touched after I left the store. There were still jagged scissor cuttings to the bottom of the dress. When I returned to show her, she told me that "its the dress, its not her fault but she can fix it". Mind you my wedding was in a week and a half. She continued to gaslight me left and right, being so rude and unaccommodating. She even went so far as to almost expose me in the store from pulling my dress down so far at the breasts. The dress was unchanged when I came back the second time. I was so upset, my sister in law demanded a refund to which Amy refused. She attempted to hand me 40.00 and say is this enough? I said no as I would now have to pay someone else to fix her errors. She said to bring her a receipt and she would give me a refund after I paid someone else to fix it. I told her no, and all she reimbursed me was 200. I will NEVER refer anyone to her. I was mortified by my experience. What should have been such an exciting time in my life, was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. read more

Highly recommend! The women here are so friendly and do great work! I felt welcomed right away, they made necessary recommendations for what needed to be tailored, and worked as best they could to meet my timeframe needed for my article of clothing. Don't waste your time going anywhere else! FYI: they only take cash or check. A bit old school for our digital world but not a big deal for the value. Just be prepared and grab some cash first read more

The owner takes great pride in her craft and the wonderful relationships she builds with her clients. Her prices are reasonable and her turn around time is also reasonable. She only takes check and cash. She is also very appreciative of any extra pant and dress hangers you can donate. read more

I called Amy on a Thursday for a dress that I needed altered to stand in a wedding on Saturday-- poor planning on my part...the wedding had been rescheduled due to COVID and my dress was much longer than I remembered since I hadn't tried it on since last year when I originally purchased. Although last minute, Amy was completely confident and could have my dress done by the next day. To top it off, my sister also needed hers altered. When I stopped in, Amy had me try my dress on and trimmed the bottom and fitted cups up top for a better fit within 15 minutes. She didn't make me feel bad at all for being so last minute, she was so welcoming and kind. My sister picked up both of our dresses the next day, and mine fit perfect. Thank you, Amy, for saving the day!! Please also remember to tip extra when receiving last minute, expedited service! Amy deserves it and will not let you down! read more

I was really disappointed with my experience for the hem of my two dress pants. I waited a week for them which I said was okay since they said they were busy but it made me nervous since I would get them the day before I needed them. I picked them up 15 minutes before they closed as Amy told me to, but due to that I didn't have time to try them on since they were closing but still paid them. When I got home I found out there was nothing done at all to them. I needed 2-3 inches shortened on each pant and when I received them they were not only just as long but still had the original hem stitching (they never touched them). I had to scramble them to get new pants that would fit off the rack the day before the interview. I had a very nice conversation with them and since I work in the industry was very willing to recommend them to my clients but after it all, I really just feel robbed and can't send people in with good conscience after this first experience. read more

Amy is a life saver. I bought my dress from a reputable bridal shop but alterations they shouldn't do. I called Amy and explained my situation. My wedding was a week away. Amy told me to come in, bring my dress and shoes and she will help me. I am writing this review because Amy did just that and more. Her professionalism and kindness shined through. She altered my wedding dress, busseled it and steamed it all for a reasonable price considering it was last minute. I will go to her to do all my alterations. I highly recommend this business. read more

Very nice lady who did a good job but I wouldn't bring clothes there again. I brought a dress in to be altered and went over specifics of what needed to be done. She quoted me $150, which seemed high to me but I was in a bind. I came back to finish the measuring and she raised the price $100, making the alterations (now $250) more than the cost of the dress. Nothing in what I needed done changed, it was the exact same work I was quoted $150 for originally. She'd already cut off the bottom of the dress so I was stuck having her finish the job. read more

The first time I used Amy's services, she took my dress in instead of letting it out a little bit. I couldn't zip up the dress after I picked it up and the cups were uneven. Thankfully, she let it out after I brought it back in. I decided to try her again a few months later and needed another dress let out again. She told me, "You've gained weight. Lay off the bread." Then, I put on my dress for her to shorten it, and she looked at me, laughed, and asked me if I was pregnant. I was mortified. Very unprofessional. I've never even had issues with my body image and now I have to live with that. read more

Amy is quick, professional, and an expert at what she does. I will always choose her!

I brought Amy my wedding dress a short month before the wedding. It was much too long and needed a bustle. I was stressed about the short notice, she was not. She had my dress done in no time. She was professional, kind, and reasonable in her pricing. She had to take off, and resew, a tiny detailed lace appliqué over my dress. When she was finished you would never know it was altered. I am so glad I took my dress to Amy! **please not she does not take plastic! Cash or check only. read more

I have hemmed my own pants for years but I'm getting older and my vision is growing worse and my hands cramp up when I do so . When I hemmed my own pants the hem would stay for years without unraveling . Since I have trouble with my vision and my hands cramping up I decided to get my pants professionally hemmed by Amy's Silver Thimble. I am slightly handicapped in my knees and hip due to an accident I had so my pants do not get much wear and tear because l don't walk much.I had about seven pairs of pants hemmed 4 months ago and since then almost every one of the hems on these pants have become unraveled. I had to rehem probably four or five out of the seven and I just noticed today that another one is becoming unraveled . My mother-in-law warned me that Amy did not do good work and my mother-in-law she's a tiny woman about 5 ft tall and very lightweight so she doesn't put much wear and tear on her pants either and she is 95 years old . All that I can say is what a waste of my money since I had to re-hem the majority of my pants already. I am very disappointed in the quality of work and will not be going back there again and I do not recommend this business. read more

Amy is a gift to the Detroit area. She is a fantastic seamstress, an extraordinarily kind and wonderful person, and extremely focused on customer service. I was in a huge bind a few months back - I needed my suit opened up a few inches ASAP for a funeral service the next day. While all the other places in town wanted to sell me a new suit, Amy said to come right in - she got me refitted on the spot (despite it being closing time). She's the best! I never go to anybody else. :-) read more

I would NEVER go to another seamstress. Amy gets it done, quickly and expertly, and is incredibly kind. She knows exactly what she's doing, cares about your time frame, and her prices are very reasonable, especially considering her work is so very reliable. 15$ to hem pants without original hem? ‍ it's more expensive than what alteration shops charge in California. Fml

It's nice to get unexpectedly good service!! Imagine how surprised I was when I picked up my altered dress and Amy had made me a hair tie with the material "because it will look nice". Reasonable prices, and as far as I can tell great tailoring. read more

More like Amys GOLDEN thimble! This woman is a magic maker, just go here already! You will NOT regret it. She truly is an expert who cares for her customers happiness and satisfaction. So here is my crazy story... I flew in to town for a wedding, picked up my bridesmaid dress only to find out that they ordered the WRONG SIZE DRESS. No, not too big, TOO SMALL. This was a fitted chiffon dress that I couldn't even zip and was scared to even sit in because it was so tight in the hips I thought it would break at the seams. I was beyond upset as the wedding was on Saturday, only two days away. After desperately searching Yelp, I found Amy under "emergency same day alterations". After reading her excellent reviews (although after meeting her I am astonished she doesn't have more) I knew that she would be the right choice. Her business hours were listed as 10Am, but having spent the evening not sleeping because I was worried that I would be "that bridesmaid", I decided it best to show up first thing in the morning. I arrived at 9:30, with tears streaming down my face, and there was Amy, the wonderful woman with a welcoming smile and heart, who saved the day, and by some miracle decided to come into work early. She was so incredibly kind to me. Amy was able to figure out what was wrong even through my blubbering sobs, and then offered me a cup of coffee and cookies to calm my nerves while she accessed my dress. She was so quick and efficient! She was able to let out the entire dress so quickly. After what felt like only 15 mins, he had me try it on to see if we had achieved enough room. The dress zipped!!!!! She said it would be ready by 2pm, just before I had to go to the dress rehearsal. I came back and she had made such beautiful alterations. Everything was sewn so beautifully. She was able to take some extra material the inside lining of the bust and move it to the hips so I was able to move. Straps were shortened and she even steamed it. It was SUCH a beautiful dress. Amy is an amazing woman! I was honestly so impressed with her skill and kindness. I cant express enough gratitude. Thank you so much Amy for saving the day!!!! My only regret is that I don't live in Michigan, or I would come to see you for ALL my tailoring needs. read more

Meh. I came here with my wedding dress with the hopes for it to be tucked in and hemmed about a month before my wedding. She stated it would take 3 weeks to complete. Upon picking it up the week before the big day, she didn't ask if I'd like to try it on to see how the fit was; so I had requested to. While trying it on in the fitting room I had noticed the lace detailing on the top half of the dress no longer merged into a straight line with the lace detailing on the bottom of the dress. In addition, the hem line was crooked with it being higher on the left side and angling down to about an inch or so longer on the right side. Having to make the critical decision regarding whether or not I should request a fix with only a week to spare, I decided against it because I didn't want it to turn out worse. I exit the fitting room, quickly thanked her, and left. 3-stars because the fit of the dress improved, but even to my untrained eye the final result wasn't as polished as I'd hoped it would be for somebody in the profession. Tip: This is a cash only establishment. read more

I needed a tailor to fit my off-the-shelf dress shirt. I picked Amy's because of the positive Yelp reviews and I'm happy to say she's lived up to her reputation. When she was fitting my dress shirt she immediately commented that I bought a shirt that is too large, but that I needed this size because of my neck. I was pleased that she immediately recognized the problem I've dealt with most of my adult life. I returned today and tried the shirt on. It looked fantastic! I was very pleased with her work and will be coming back. read more

I plan on being a regular customer. The owner Amy treated us like family. She has years of experience and it shows in her work. highly recommend, fast service, very professional, very friendly, I ordered a beautiful dress online for my daughters wedding. When it arrived it was not as shown in the picture. It was missing a lining on the arms and chest area and even after giving them my measurements it did not fit correctly Being so disappointed with my dress and having no time to look for another I turned to yelp and found Amy's Thimble. Amy was wonderful to work with. I needed my wedding gown hemmed. She was very precise and made sure it was the perfect length, train and all. She noticed the straps were slipping slightly and suggested adjustments to the beaded/rhinestone straps that would keep them in place without losing any of the detailing. She even finished my dress weeks earlier than planned ( just days after I had dropped it off). Very satisfied and will return with any other projects I have. read more

I took my dress to Amy's Silver Thimble and was hoping for a professional job. I went to pick it up and inspected the dress to find she did a terrible job. One shoulder was not altered while the other one was crudely dome with rough edges and now too small for my arm. In addition, the side seams were sewn different lengths so the dress fits awkwardly on the body. I will never take alterations to this shop again. I have to buy a new dress now because the damage to the shoulder cannot be undone. One armhole is too small and the other is too big. What a disaster! read more

I waited until the last minute to get a bride's maid dress altered. I tried it on about 2 weeks before the wedding and it was too tight on top. Then I broke the hook at the top of the zipper. I contacted Amy's because it's close to my work and I hoped I could take care of this on a lunch break. She was so fast and convenient. I was back to work in less than an hour. The dress was ready in a week and fit perfectly. All done on lunch breaks! Super easy! I would recommend Amy's Silver Thimble! read more

Amy is AMAZING! I can't begin to express how happy I am with the work she did and how wonderful the whole experience was! I needed to have my wedding gown altered and I asked several friends and family members for referrals... a friend told me about Amy's Silver Thimble. I had gotten my gown years ago (the bridal shop was going out of business so my mother had surprised me with it) but it hadn't been altered. For various reasons we decided to have a very short engagement and I went in a mere 10 days before the wedding. I was ready to accept that, due to such a short period of time until the wedding, I wouldn't be able to have all the changes I wanted completed. Incredibly, not only did the most necessary changes get done, but she did other alterations to the dress that made me feel more confident and beautiful (& even made me a wrap with some excess material). I'm absolutely thrilled with the results! read more

Amy is amazing. She is so kind, so polite, and very skilled. She did an amazing job with my reception dress. She was so fast and I was able to pick up my dress the next day!! Awesome!

Very nice lady, fast and helpful! Fixed my skirt while I was there. I was in and out in no time with no issues.

I went here to get my wedding dress hemmed. She did a great job. I bought a strapless dress but was worried about having to pull it up all night. She recommended added simple spaghetti straps to it. It worked great because I don't have to worry about pulling it up all night and it's not fitted so tight to stay up that it causes back flat. I will definitely come here again for anything I need tailored. The only downside was she didn't accept credit cards and I had to run and get cash. read more
