I took a dress that was not well-altered by another seamstress. Mike's employees saw that I was pretty frustrated with the whole situation and offered to expedite the work. Instead of getting the dress back the week after the Dream Cruise, I already have it back and it's 100% wedding-ready for my position as matron of honor in my brother's wedding. The layered prom dress for my granddaughter was ruined. It was not hemmed as directed and hem was various lengths. Since they were not able to complete till the afternoon prior, the dress was not put on till night of prom, sadly. I went back the next day with pictures. Before I could even explain, both Mike and his wife screamed at me, waved hands in air as to strike me, and ordered me not to return. I was in shock, as I approached in a calm manner asking what they could do as far as a fair reimbursement. I did not request any amount, but I did share that the dress could never be worn again. I had hoped for return of the service $150 I would encourage you to notice the quick temper of these owners prior to giving them your item to alter. Possibly simple hems, but they did not appear experienced to handle these new formals with multiple layers, or at least was not able to properly hem this one. So sad to see a beautiful dress, with a gorgeous young lady attend her first prom and feeling awkward about her crooked hemmed formal. Pictures show gown from formal shop with even hem. He knows how to deal with delicate fabrics, can do just as good as a job on the jean hems as Ali, and is super nice (not to say that Ali isn't)! Props to my Yelp brothers and sisters for steering me to Mike's. I came there to get some suits altered. I was impressed not only with Mike's technique but with his demeanor. He is a very nice man. He speaks softly and treats customers kindly but still gets the necessary information across. This was a real relief after my recent experiences with tailors who are officious, derisive and dictatorial. He asked me how things felt instead of telling me that they were as they were. When I came to pick up one of the pants, I found that I wanted a little more room in the waist. Mike was very obliging (again, unlike other tailors who would insinuate that you were wrong to want that). He made an adjustment that was perfect. I recently had a bridesmaid's dress altered here. I wasn't sure where to go or what to expect as far as cost, since I haven't used any tailors in the area or had any alterations other than basic hems done in the past, so I turned to Yelp for ideas. My sister had similar alterations done on her dress in Lansing at Lett's bridal for $75, so when Mike quoted me $75 I felt like it was expensive but that it must be about average for that type of work. The dress had a sweetheart neckline and needed to be taken in on top. Instead of taking it in on the sides or back, he wanted to take it in in the middle, in the front of the dress. I thought this was kind of odd but trusted his expertise. He also hemmed the dress. The dress ended up fitting well; however, the sweetheart neckline was definitely distorted and looked noticeably different from the other girls' dresses (picture a heart, if you cut a strip out of the middle and then put it back together- the rounded parts of the heart shape would be closer together). I feel like he took it in in the middle because it would have been more work to take the sides in, but the design of the dress should have been considered. Besides, taking in side seams is not that big a deal for an experienced tailor. On the plus side, when the dress was shortened it made the sides stick out, and he took those in at no additional cost. Also, the service was good and they had the dress ready fairly quickly for me. I would consider returning for other alterations depending on what the price quote was. read more

I just moved to Ann Arbor and I have a suit that needs tailoring. I'm going back here to get it done. I'm very particular with the way my clothes fit. Mike makes sure you get the fit that you want. These are some of the things I had done with Mike... Denim/pants: hemmed, legs tapered, waist taken in/out, seat taken in/out Shirts: hem shortened, sleeves shortened, sides/sleeves taken in, darted Suits (jacket): waist taken in, sleeves shortened, length shortened Outerwear (lined wool overcoat): sides taken in, seam repaired Everything has been done to my liking and finished within a week. Sometimes I needed a quicker turn around time and he made it happen. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to find another tailor I can trust. read more

Premium quality, total professional, wonderful service, accurate delivery dates, but prices to match. I'm a tall skinny guy and I have a really hard time finding clothes that fit right. I have used Mike's on three separate occasions and have always been pleased with the results. The first was to take in a (fat guy sized) pea coat that I got on clearance at Banana Republic. He made it look great and the price was around 70 bucks. That got me a stylish high quality tailored wool coat for around 160. Score. The last was a Thrift Store tuxedo for a costume that needed to be taken in and have the sleeves let out. That was a bit more. Like 90 bucks. Waaaay more than I paid for the jacket. Way more. So, I'm a little wary of his prices, but his quality is high and I suppose you get what you pay for. He repaired the sleeve on my 60s biker jacket, a rip in the armpit from front to back. I forget the cost but remember it was a little steep. Still, great work. He will try to talk you out of things if they're oddball, like with the tux I wanted the sleeves mid-palm (it was supposed to be kinda tim burton-ish). Of course, if it were a real tux the sleeves would be shorter, so he had my best interest in mind. Just saying. He thought I was out of my mind. read more

I went to a few other tailor shops in the area, but none are as good as Mike's. My first experience was having my pea coat taken in on the sides, shoulders, and sleeves. It was a fairly complex deal and I had expected to pay quite a bit, but Mike finished it in a couple of days, the fit was perfect, and he charged me an extremely fair price considering the extremely high quality of work. (It seemed like the coat was brand new- just smaller!) Since then, I've taken everything I needed altered to him, including pants, leather jackets, and even shirts. He provides fast service, great hours, and a nice professionalism. My best experience with Mike was a few Saturdays ago. I had recently moved to Chicago, and was back in town for some business. I didn't realize that my pants were torn (in the crotch) so I took them to the shop and within a few hours, Mike had them ready for me knowing that I needed them- same low price, even with the rushed schedule. I'm so loyal to this place that I drive all the way back to Chicago just to have him alter clothes. read more

Mike's Tailor Shop is a place where you can take an expensive piece of clothing and TRUST the alteration is going to be done perfectly. I had an uber tight deadline. I called and talked to the person on the phone and explained how my wedding shower was the following day and how I needed the straps altered so I could wear the dress to the shower. I was nervous going to this place as I am new to this side of town, but after reading the reviews on yelp, I gave it a try. The people who run this store are professional and very good at what they do. My alterations were perfect and I looked amazing at my shower because of them. I will be using them going forward. Fantastic job to Mike's Tailor Shop for the recent alterations I had done on two pairs of jeans. I'd never had anything altered before so of course had no clue where to go. I turned to Yelp for some recommendations. I'm so glad I did! Customer Service was excellent, was promised they'd be done in a week...they were! Friendly...they are! Seem to care about the Customer and their requests...definitely! What stands out to me, in addition to those mentioned above, is...I didn't realize at the time of pick up that they don't take debit or credit cards, (only cash or check). I wasn't prepared to pay either way except for debit. After he informed me that he didn't take credit or debit, I said I hoped I had enough cash. He said if not to not worry and just mail him a check and he'd trust me to do that. WOW! How many places let you, much less TRUST you to do that? I was happy to find I had the right amount of cash after all so could pay him on the spot. But I do appreciate his trust in me. THAT is Customer service!! Would I go to Mike's again if ever I need alterations done? YES, no doubt about it. I have been to a few tailors in my day but it wasn't until I stopped into Mikes I knew I found my tailor. Mike and his family to an excellent job. They are friendly, courteous, and take a lot of pride in their work. I found Mike back in '02 when i needed some quick "adjustments...." and he was able to get them done over night. When I picked up the pants the next day there was no extra charge and they fit great. At that point I found my man. There craftsman, super highly skilled and can fix everything from a mundane pants cuffs, that needs to be shortened, to a leather jacket that needs all of the lining replaced. Instead of repeatedly telling someone their dress doesn't fit them and commenting on their "arm rolls" maybe you should try and offer some solutions. They tailor more than slacks. I've had them tailor jackets, and jeans. I assume they tailor other things like shirts, and women's clothing. There are likely other comprehensive lists of tailorable items I'm not aware of. This is a pretty wild thing. So if you have ill-fitting clothes, come see Mike. My hubs brings his jeans here to get them hemmed with the true cuff. It is a bit $$ (like $25), but they look flawless. So I brought in my 7FAMK jeans and a coat. The coat had those metal floppy buttons that would NOT stay on for the life of me. I was walking around like Paddington Bear. No joke. I already had them taken to 1 tailor & reinforced, but they kept falling off. I went to pick up my jeans & coat from Mike's, and I called at 6:45 pm to find out they closed at 7 pm. I couldn't make it by then, so I told them I'd be in the next day. The lady told me they would stay open for me to pick up my things! And to "not hurry, drive careful!" Can you believe that? What customer service! And my jeans & coat look flawless! So send your friends, family, and bad arse self here, because not only is their work impeccable, their customer service is the best in the area. read more

Where to begin, terrible customer service, called to let him know I was referred over by a local cleaner to which he seemed annoyed that I didn't just bark out what I needed done. Asked if I could potentially get a quote on a simple zipper fix on a parka, then asked me what it was for... again a zipper for a parka. He then proceeded to tell me it could be $30, 40, 50 maybe even more, again we're talking about a zipper on a coat. I asked how the price could get so drastic to which he told me he basically deems if a job will be lucrative or not. So, if you have a quick fix the price will be inflated because "it's not worth his time to work for $40" in his words. Just avoid unless you have money to throw away. I recommend Camelot Cleaners in Berkley, always done cleanings and alterations for me and my family for over 20 years while being fair with prices and not rude. Would leave zero stars if I could. read more
