I don't usually post Yelp reviews, but Mario is so good, I had to give him an endorsement! I am going to be in a wedding in a few weeks and purchased my bridesmaid dress from David's Bridal. Long story short, they convinced me to purchase a dress that was too big because they said it would be a tighter fit than their in-store dresses (something about girls squeezing themselves into dresses and stretching out the fabric). When my dress finally came, it looked like a shapeless satin bag on me. I knew I needed a tailor. Mario was professional and very quick. He got the dress back to me in about 24 hours and it looked amazing! He took a mass produced dress and made it into a custom gown. It's definitely a dress I can wear to other occasions after this wedding. He is so talented! Like other reviewers have said, his prices are so reasonable I'm not sure how he stays in business. I had such a great experience today with the owner, Mario. My daughter needed the length of her prom dress altered. Because of the Style of the gown and the many layers it was going to cost well over $100. Mario, had my daughter try on the dress, he spent a tremendous amount of time going through the layers and came up with a quick fix to save me from altering the gown and it didn't cost me a penny!!!! It is plain to see why this business owner has been in business for 33 years and has a near perfect review status and he's local. I can't say enough good things about this guy!! Reliable, skilled and very knowledgable when it comes to tailoring and clothes. Mario is a 3rd generation tailor and won't tell you he can do something unless he can, which I believe is a rare find these days. I came in on Christmas Eve with a 100% silk dress, that was uneven all the way around (something that definitely was noticed) and was leaving to go out of town the following Sunday. I tried to pick it up Saturday but was late and thought out of luck. I called the next Morning but he was unfortunately closed. Mario called back to let me know he will come open up. I thanked him up and down for going out of his way, which he replied with, "well there is a dilemma that needs to be fixed." Now that's costumer service at its best. Note: I have used Yelp for years, and selfishly I have used the mostly constructive input of the community without submitting any of my own. Mario, and my experience in his business, have inspired me to open an account to share my experience. Simply put, a great service and customer experience at a great price! Mario is the owner and tailor in this quaint Troy shop. Aside from his 40+ years of expertise, he executes quickly with an unparallelled level of customer service. He was professional right out of the gate. The second I walked in with my new suit, he was assisting another customer. He quickly acknowledged me, and politely told me "I'll be right with you my friend". Now, I didn't need to be acknowledged, however, it speaks to his professionalism. (Note: the aforementioned customer left glowing - out of the corner of my eye I'd seen her hand Mario a dress, he made about 200 passes with the sowing machine in about 60 seconds and her dress was altered - for no charge!) Now, after I'd changed into my suit jacket and pants, he quickly realized I needed a longer suit and then asked me when I needed it ready for the event. I told him the event was in two weeks. He insisted I go to my suit retailer, get the correct size and if I delivered the suit in 2-3 days he could have it ready by the time of the event. I was grateful he could accommodate. However, the story takes a turn, as when I returned to the suit retailer (not Mario), my suit size was not readily available - and needed to be shipped to my house. So, I returned to Mario with my suit 5 business days later, fully expecting that Mario would (rightfully) be unable to tailor the suit in time for the event (now just 4 days away). Fair enough, not Mario's fault, at least my suit would be ready for any other future event. I had underestimated Mario. He turned the suit around in just 1.5 business days and it fit perfectly! He told me "I promised you the suit before the event, I will deliver." He had no control over the shipping delay, but he went above and beyond to deliver not only on a timely basis, but with exceptional execution! Last but not least, I can not overstate the friendliness and level of professionalism this man exhibits. I could go on, but in short, if you have any reservations, just take your business to Mario. You will not be disappointed, in fact, you'll leave with that rare feeling of deep consumer satisfaction that can only result from a business that takes pride in their work at a great value. read more

I took a bridesmaid's dress that was way too large to Mario on Tuesday... I needed it by Friday. Mario took mercy on me and fixed the dress in just two days for a very reasonable price. Mario is a tailor, not a seamstress, so he was really doing me (a stranger) a favor. The results were great, btw. I'll be back. I live in California and was visiting family in Michigan for a few days. I had 2 suits and a pair of jeans in my suitcase that could have used some tailoring ! I brought them to Mario on a Wednesday right before prom time! Mario was swamped with dozens of dresses to fix, but told me he could tailor one suit and the pair of jeans. He asked me to come pick them up on Saturday. However, a few hours later, I received a text from Mario telling me that my clothes were ready for pick up!! Moreover he asked me to bring in the extra suit that he also tailored in a few hours. I came in with boxy suits and left with unbelievable dapper slim fitting jackets and pants! I cannot say enough great things about this place and Mario. My husband had to order a specific button down for a wedding he was standing up on and it came wayyyyyy too big. No time to exchange and they didn't have anything smaller available so we went to Marios. He was great with our kids when we walked in. My three year old got her first purse recently and he emptied all the change from his pockets into her purse. It was just so nice. He treated us like he has known us forever. He tailored the shirt within days for an incredibly reasonable price. Mario is by fat the best! I've taken suits, pants, and an overcoat to him for tailoring and he never disappoints. His work is beyond perfect. Recently, I took in two pairs of pants that I had tailored before at another location and wasn't really happy with their work. So I took them to Mario and it now looks like the pants were made to measure. He took two pairs of pants that had a regular fit look and made them into comfortable slimmer fitting pants. Before I took them to Mario, I felt like I looked sloppy, not anymore. Another thing I like about him is that he always gives advice and tips. He's honest and tells you what you need done and why. I have always been skeptical about getting my pants altered. The one time I had a pair done they were WAY too short so I have always just rolled with having my jeans/pants a little too long. After purchasing new jeans I decided to take them to Mario based off a friends recommendation. He is extremely nice, fast, and GREAT at his craft. A little less than a week later I have PERFECT length jeans with the original bottom that will now fit and last for years. It was about $15 for each pair, and worth every penny. I had to join Yelp just to give Mario a great rating. First, he works extremely fast! He fixed up two suits for me and my cousin in four hours. Secondly, he has a good eye and gives great advice as to where you can pick up suits that fit, especially if you have an odd size. Lastly, he knows how to work under a deadline. I was getting married and needed help for my father and groomsman from out-of-town to get their suits tailored and he was able to get the work done the same day, knowing that the wedding was two days away. Old school tailor who cares about his work and looks out for the customer's best interest. I had jacket I wanted to altered so it was slimmer and he turned down the job saying he didn't like making his money that way. He could do it and it would be expensive, but he said I was better off buying another jacket already cut the way I wanted. Great service! I brought in a chiffon and beaded dress that had a rather large rip in the armpit area of the sleeve. I had taken the dress to another location before and the tailor there told me it would cost over 30 dollars and would take over a week to fix. I walked into Mario's and he instantly stopped what he was doing and fixed the rip, as well as reinforcing the rest of the sleeve and the other side also in just a couple minutes. All for 5 bucks! After reading the reviews for this business I did a walk in hoping to find someone who could sew a cover for a seat cushion I recently purchased. I had the fabric and cushion with me and after stepping one foot into this business, I realized this was not what I was looking for. Much to my surprise, Mario came out and spent about 20 minutes helping me (after good natured teasing that he doesn't usually sew cushion covers). He quickly cut the fabric, pinned it for me and then gave me a quick lesson on how to complete the project. He had a great sense of humor and was happy to help. He refused payment despite my insistence and instead just asked me to return the pins after my project was complete. Had a horror story with getting my mother of the groom 2 piece dress altered at the bridal salon where I ordered it. I finally yelped to see if there was a tailor nearby and found Mario.
