Mariner's Cove is a compact restaurant that feels like you're at home. There are only a handful of tables and they will only seat you when your entire party is there; which makes sense because of the size and popularity of this place. We managed to get a table for 8 with little trouble on a Saturday at 12pm in July - how we did it, I have no idea. No complaints! When you're seated, you're going to get a menu that's huge! It brought me back to elementary school when we thought putting up manila folders to stop people from cheating would be a good idea but actually, these menus would be better. Anything you think you want for breakfast, you will find here and they're pretty flexible with things you want to add/remove to the dishes. They have a page dedicated to omelettes, and more on breakfast sandwiches, eggs, french toast, waffles, you name it. They also have lunch options but all of us at the table were feeling brunch. We got more food than most of us can stomach and a few friends even got some milkshakes. I got some french toast and my favorite unique item that I saw were pancake bennys which were eggs benedict over potato pancakes. Yes you heard that right. My husband and I used to eat here all the time when we lived in Belmar. However the last time we went, we were disgusted. Before our food arrived, I saw a cockroach climbing on the window sill. After showing my husband he said cockroaches are usually together and in wet dark areas, so for this one to be alone on a window, he could imagine how many are in the kitchen. Then our food came out, and there was a fly IN my omelette. We were so disgusted and haven't returned since. I consider myself a very sentimental person. Given this fact, there are certain people and places that hold a special place in my memory. Mariner's Cove is one of these places. It's been in Brielle well beyond 15-20 years, for my oldest memories are my mom taking me here for breakfast for a "good report card" during high school. Looking back, I remember my amazement at the giant size menu that was bigger than the table, the fluffy pancakes, and the crazy 250 omelette menu. I also recalled the booth my mom and I called "the cove" as the restaurant is small, but the booths are cutely tucked away like "coves" - one in particular. Decorations of the seashore line the walls, and other antique like treasures. Suffice to say, Mariner's Cove left quite the impression on my highschool self. Over the years, I've gone back and forth to the cove, and it never lost it's charm. I'd come home from college and graduate school and make my way there. This was long before my yelping days, hence my limited check ins. Recently, as I'm about to finally finish my long awaited PhD, I wanted to share Mariner's Cove with a friend of mine. I also wanted to see if it still was the ultimate brunch spot.... and, I am happy to say, it still is. I do hope my friend agrees! So enough of the sappy stuff, right? Let me get to the SERVICE, because if my coffee cup isn't refilled and I'm not greeted with smiles while I'm out for breakfast, then the food, in all honestly, takes a back seat in my mind. Service is stellar. Hostess is friendly, and seats you most often right away. The place does get busy, as it is small, but the management does such a good job I've never found myself waiting very long.... or really at all. Servers are all spot on. They give you time to look at the giant menu, they give you a coffee pot of your own (yay!), and during football season everyone is dressed in their team jerseys! Onto the FOOD, yes yelpers, I know, you are waiting! The omlettes are fantastic. There are 250. They are numbered. I had the Kentucky recently because I wanted one loaded with sausage, bacon, and ham. Hashbrowns/potatoes side was yummy, and so was the rye toast. I've had quite a few omlettes here over the years. Some are absolutely MASSIVE and just stuffed with potatoes and everything you can imagine that could possibly be in an omlette... and more! Others, are a bit more light weight. It just depends on your mood. Ask if you have questions! They have a nice selection of pancakes. Golden brown and fluffy traditional, chocolate chip, fruit, etc. I had the chocolate chip before and it used to be a favorite of mine until I started cutting calories.... arghhhh! You can also order sandwiches and burgers. I've never tried it, but don't miss this section of the menu! The décor of this place really adds to the experience. It's cozy and quaint. You can sit on a bar stool over by the counter, or tucked away in a cove like booth. Rustic looking signs adorn the walls...words like 'love'...'family'....'happiness' all painted on wooden panels. Images of light houses, boats, and cute crabs accompany the signs. If you look to the ceiling you see mini train sets.... choo choo!!! I feel like I'm in my beloved grandma's kitchen when I sit and eat here. Oh how I miss my grandma.... and how she adored the seashore. Perhaps I'm bias, as I grew up along the Jersey shore. I went to college in North Jersey, graduate school in North Jersey and then in North Carolina, but in the end, for me there was no place like home... and this place seems to embody the Jersey shore. Mariner's Cove is hands down my favorite brunch spot, tucked away down the shore, where I grew up and will always be my home. I'll be back, for sure. My parents are local. Hello Darlings! It's been a spell since the last time I've had breakfast in this joint. This place has been here forever, or at least since the 1980s...it may have been here even longer than that...can you imagine?? It's a cute 'lil ole place on the triangle where Route 71 and Route 35 South merge together and become one. This place is noted for their abundant selection of omelettes. Nearly an entire page of their menu is dedicated to them. They have the standards, and they have omelettes that seem to cover everything on the entire rainbow...we're talking *hundreds* here. Every time your host enters the threshold of this institution, it is with the thought of getting outside the box and trying something, shall we say, different. But on the last go around, it wound up being my standard Western with feta, which, by the way, was pretty tasty. This place is popular, especially during the summer months, and even more especially, on Sundays during the summer months. As far as I know, they don't take reservations (I mean, c'mon really...you expect a breakfast/lunch place to take reservations??). So, darlings, prepare thyselves for a wait. But in the off-season, the wait times are not horrible (in fact, we managed to waltz right in without a wait...hmm). You can even get waffles (!) here, so if eggs aren't your thang, there's always other options. The food and service is definitely on the positive side, but be wary darlings that the place itself is not spacious and doesn't lend itself to a leisurely dining experience. Been coming here for many, many years. First of all: Yes, there are 200+ omelettes, but really it's just mix-and-match of like 12 ingredients. This is certainly better for marketing than giving you the ingredient list and telling you to build your own. ;) The portion sizes of the main dishes are still quite large. It's clear, however, that they're finding sneaky ways to bring in more money. Case in point: I got chocolate chip pancakes and a side of sausage links. Years ago you got 4 sausage links. Two years ago we came here, it was down to 3 links. This morning? Now it's 2 sausage links -- for $4.75! And these are just standard diner sausage links. That is a total ripoff. Because there are (understandably) no photos on the menu, you might think your side dish will be a big portion just like the main dish. You'll have no idea that you got ripped off until it arrives at your table and you wonder where the rest of it went. Granted, the pancakes were so big that I probably didn't need those side sausage links. But buyer beware -- my $9.75 pancakes were a fair value, but another $4.75 for two little pieces of sausage is ridiculous. So, I'd recommend skipping any of the meat-based sides, as $4.75 is the cheapest. The name of the game here is portion size: The quality is standard diner quality, but they make up for it in portion size. The problem is, the building is really showing it's age; there's not much space inside, leaving you with a long wait to get inside during the summer season. It's not quite the deal it used to be, but if you're staying local and don't mind the wait, you'll get a good-sized omelette out of it. read more

The waitress was attentive and sweet, asked what I wanted to drink as I looked over the menu. The menu was HUGE, all breakfast food with different combinations and options to choose from. I ended getting pancakes, eggs, and sausages. The portions were generous and prices were pretty reasonable ... let me you, the food was great! Oh mans ... I just found my new favorite brunch spot. I am saddened that a Mariner's Cove doesn't exist closer to NYC because I'd be a VERY frequent visitor. Their b'fast platters are plentiful in terms of options and what we had was pube-droppingly good. Yes, that is a slogan in my book. You'll see from the photo I attached that it takes up almost half my upper body, and I could only show you the front page! Since everyone said the portions are so big, we opted to share one breakfast between the two of us. While it's true that my sister and I may not have a HungryMan's appetite, we couldn't even finish half the plate. I didn't take down the actual name of my dish, but if you look on page 2, it is the first option in the upper right-hand corner. It was something with a crab cake sandwiched between a potato pancake underneath, and a sunnyside-up egg on top. Service can be very hit or miss. The server who had our table started off in an almost pissy-mood, but then really warmed up in the end (perhaps it was the overwhelming amount of tables she had to serve) so I understand that. The real reason to come here though is because the food is good and you'll leave full. Oh, and the prices are amazing. Yeah ... Having read all the wonderful reviews and needing a place to plop down with my 3 colleagues to talk some business, we decided to head in for brunch. The decor is very fun-- rustic campsite type feel (booths are a bit uncomfortable for 4). Lots of unrelated decorations from different parts of the world hang on the walls-- it's purposeful jumbling. On to the food from the world's largest menu. Mariner's Cove makes Cheesecake Factory's menu look like child's play. They managed to have food from like half the UN on there-- how does the kitchen have room for all this stuff?!!?!?! They should totally add a 2nd page of Asian food. They should also give first timers a big identifier like a shiny necklace or something, so the waitress knows not to approach you for the next 20 minutes as you digest the menu. After some spirited investigative work, I found the pancakes section. Pumpkin pancakes with every imaginable berry on top was my choice. Plus a side of bacon. I think this restaurant might be the single biggest reason America is obese. I think my pancake dish could have fed the entire table. When my boss' sandwich plate came, I couldn't help but burst out into laughter. The portions are GINORMOUS. How was the food? My pancakes had surprisingly good pumpkin flavor, but the pancakes were heavy and dense, not light and airy. And the strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and boysenberries on top? Thanks for the generosity, but how did they fit with the pumpkin pancakes again? Lots of conflicting flavors there. At the end of the day, I've got to praise them for their eclectic array of food and decor, but having settled down from the shock and awe of the menu and the portions, I realized the food didn't measure up. Although we avoid Mariner's Cove during the summer ( long waits of course) during the "off season" I LOVE coming here for breakfast and definitely would every Saturday and Sunday forever, if I was guaranteed I wouldn't gain 1,000 lbs. Their portions are huge. My boyfriend and I usually get a sweet option and then an omelette to share. We walk out stuffed and still bring an entire meal home for left overs. Their creations are so unique from the Tropical French Toast right down to your choice of somewhere around 200 omelettes. We've eaten here several times and not once have we been disappointed. Some people complained about the food being too greasy but if your ordering an omelette with bacon, pork roll, or sausage then what do you expect. My wife orders some Hawaiian dish which was basically French toast with a bunch of fresh fruit and whip cream. The fruit was exceptionally fresh and delicious. If possible avoid the weekends. If you go on a Saturday or Sunday YOU WILL WAIT. it gets crazy in there. It's not a very big place and they really do try and turn the tables over as fast as possible. Anyone who has worked in the food industry know that when a place gets busy mistakes get made and wait staff get grumpy. You are much better off going on a weekday. If the weekend cannot be avoided take this advice. Try and pick something that is hard to mess up. Ordering this like shrimp and seafood when the place is packed will leave you with possibly rubbery over cooked seafood. Chicken and steak can also be easily messed up when the place is slammed. Remember, this is a breakfast place. Keep it to breakfast. Pancakes, French toast and omelette with veggies and breakfast meats are hard to mess up. Overall I love this place. Takes a little bit longer than expected but whatever, they weren't that busy. So I pay my $36 tab while I'm waiting and I left a few dollars for a tip on the counter. Eventually I get my food and I'm walking out and while I'm halfway to my car, they yell out to me, did you pay? The woman who asked me if I paid was the one I gave the money to, they accuse me of not paying which really just irritated me.
