This was the first time I ate there. I had the cod with the popcorn shrimp. It was delicious! Our waitress was nice and as we were eating the place filled up. The whole staff that was there that night worked well as a team, taking care of everyone. We had their home made pie for dessert, and it was delicious! Went out for a early dinner was able to finally eat at a restaurant in the outdoor dining area. Heaters to keep you warm and separated from the other customers. I have been coming here for six years. Best breakfast in town. Check out the daily special for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Marie has been working hard to provide a safe environment for all during this pandemic. Covered/heated outdoor patio for current dining restrictions. Great service, always feel welcomed. Don't waist your money. We stopped in after a long day of fishing, starving. Meatloaf dinner had potato flakes that had dried crusty edges. The vegetables were from a frozen veggie bag, meatloaf was dry and dense. Halibut fish and chips was ok, but the fries were right out of an Orieda bag. French dip had soggy bread and looked like some old lunch meat. Mozzarella sticks were slightly warm. Honestly I would have walked away from the meal had we not been so hungry.....instead I paid $60 for a meal with nothing homemade. Just left this little gem of a restaurant.... they were so accommodating as we had a dog, they allowed us to dine outside with him and brought him a bowl of water too! The tuna melt is a must try and my husband said his burger was fantastic! Very reasonable prices.... I never see beer for under $4 anymore like it is here! Nice servers too. I was hoping for something better here. We did not get the breakfast items which maybe is what they are known for. We got the Mariner's Scatter which is a combination of a variety of things such as clam strips, oysters, prawns, etc. and I split it with my wife. Had an amazing supper with superb service after spending the day exploring Olympic National Park. Started with a bowl of clam chowder (the little loved it). I had the shrimp plate with tator tots. Best tator tots I've had in forever! Hubby had the halibut and chips. Halibut was cooked and breaded perfectly. We took 2 slices of pie to go. Can't wait to dig into them later. In addition to great food, the service staff was super friendly and the restaurant has a super cute vibe with kitchen tables and chairs scattered around instead of typical restaurant tables. Mariner used to serve the best burgers and fresh cut French fries in town. During this crazy time, we would get this takeout, 3 to 4 times a month. Yesterday my burger was a preformed skinny dry commercial patty. It was like trying to chew sawdust. I sent a message thru messenger to ask the Mariner if it was a one time issue... unfortunately they did not respond, which is why I am posting this review. Very disappointed. $31. Eggs Benedict are the best I've had in a LONG time I noticed they have home made pies but didn't sample any. Eggs cooked perfectly. My Mariner experience: this is my story the story of Herbert Metsgrove and the time I went to the Mariner Cafe. When I first walked into the door I was greeted by a jubilant yet clearly artificial "hey sister" from the waitress. Her attitude was a fake as the frozen fish served on my plate that morning. Why did I get fish for breakfast? Don't question me you absolutely plebeian. Herbert Metsgrove orders whatever he wants, whenever he wants and let me tell you something, Herbert Metsgrove does not want to order from the Mariner Cafe ever again! Must say I was a bit skeptical because I've never been to the amazing town of Sequim and my family and I are very particular about food. Since our first choice was busy our uncle said come to Mariner Cafe, "you won't regret it". As soon as we came into town we drove here and met our Uncle Mark sitting outside enjoy the weather an cold beer. Once seated, we were greeted by our host and we quickly given menu's as well as put in a waffle order with strawberries for our 4 year old hungry boy! Drinks came out fast as well as our son's strawberry waffle. AMAZING, flavor was there as well as crispy but melt in your waffle texture of the waffle. All 4 adults order something different and every single bit of every single plate was amazing to the last bite. My wife, con salad, Grand Pa Burger Melt of some sort, Uncle Mark Fish Sandwich and me Huevos Rancheros with a side of French toast. My eggs we infused with homemade chorizo topped with onions, bell peppers and cheese! Side of homemade salads and sour cream! Delicious, as I write this the flavors creep up slowly in my recent memory! French toast was amazing as well, a bit different than what I'm used to but the butter and syrup complimented it well! Must say, this will be my first, second and third options for when we come to visit Uncle Mark! This place is amazing and every host was very attentive and full of joyful smiles. Weary from driving and having been searching for good fish and chips in Sequim we decided to believe the 4.5 star rating for the Mariner Cafe. The decorations were cute- had me convinced of seafood delights....waiter was friendly. I had the batter fried halibut, hubby had the lightly breaded cod. Two ice tea. Came to over $40 with tip. My husband was very disappointed with his plate, rubbery and dry. I found mine just barely edible. I think it had been freshly breaded somewhere else , flash frozen and re-fried on site to serve. People who rate this as anything over two stars have either never had good fresh fish and chips or they come here for something else, socializing or perhaps they are friends with owner? Anyway, after the server was alerted by our politely conveyed concern about the quality of our meal she simply walked away with no acknowledgment at all. It was rather surprising and frustrating for us. We opted to just let it go rather then make a deal of it but this should never happen in my opinion. It told me that our business was of no value and so consequently we will never be back. Owner take heed; unless you are happy to just get by, you better wake up and care about your quality! At the very least address an unhappy customer promptly by offering another replacement dish or free meal! read more

Ordered: All you can eat oysters. This was batter fried oysters, accompanied by cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, steak fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was decent but somewhat forgettable. I generally enjoy steak fries, and these ones were pretty good; they had a nice balance of crisp and soft. The fried oysters, of course, were the main attraction. They were some of the better oysters that I've had; they were clearly fresh, and were lifted by the crisp and richness of the batter rather than being overwhelmed. They had a good texture - not chewy at all - but were not quite at the melt-in-your-mouth level that I've experienced elsewhere. The few fried oysters that did reach that ideal texture also seemed a bit soggy on the outside. You can also get grilled oysters if you ask for them, so I tried a few. I felt that these had a closer to perfect texture, but the greens upon which they were served stuck to the bottom and clashed a little bit flavor wise. Despite these few quibbles, these were probably the second best oysters I've had eating out, and the one place that I've had better would have only given me 7 oysters at this price, rather than the 20-ish I got here. So I'd highly recommend it. Friendly and very accommodating staff. Takes a while for food to come out. Good seating, including for large groups, but at 11:45am it was already half full; get here early if you're going for lunch. read more

This isn't exactly an ideal place for a hot date, but if you are ok with the feel all day early bird special, definately give this place a try. I have a feeling this is the hangout for the elderly populace of Sequim, because my boyfriend and I were a bit of an oddity as the youngest people eating there by a good 30-40 years. However, the food was so good and plentiful. I had the fresh salad, but I also stole a few bites of the tastey chowder. I had the steak and prawns, which also had the suprise of onion rings and garlic bread. No one in my party went hungry and were please with everything. I am sorry to say I won't be back, and I am always suspect of reviews on yelp that get several poor ratings, then glorious 5 star ratings that mysteriously improve the average. I met someone here for a business breakfast and found the food and service disappointing. My host asked for very specific changes to the menu on his order. If you are in the food service business, you have to be aware that there are folks like that. Instead of telling him no changes to the menu, they agreed at the table, then the waitress plopped down his breakfast and said "the cook wouldn't make changes." Found out later our waitress was the owner. We were being ignored - kept waving to get our check, we both had appointments. One waitress waved back, and ignored us. The waving waitress and our waitress were having a conversation while we were both staring at them trying to get their attention. Our waitress finally came over and handed me a bill for over $20.00 for breakfast with no detail slip. I paid, left a tip, and won't go back. We ordered food through Door Dash and it was awesome. Will definitely be back. We have our puppy in a hotel room so we had to order in. The fried seafood my husband had was so fresh and delicious. My husband and I stopped in here to have dinner while on a short vacation. It was early and I teased him about eating at the blue hair hour. And it really was. Everyone else in the restaurant was older than us by 35 years give or take. They also were all locals. We were treated like outsiders. One waitress didn't not want to even look at us. The one that did wait on us was pleasant enough..... The food was decent but nothing to write home about. It took forever to pay the bill too since their were only the two waitresses and only one of them would speak to me. We won't be returning to this place. read more
