Marinelli's is truly like going to Nonna's for dinner! We had dinner the first time scouting for a spot for a Rehearsal Dinner for my son's wedding. We immediately knew this was the spot! Vito and his staff made sure everything was perfect, the family style meal was plentiful and it was an amazing night. The Barn was decorated beautifully and we spread out under the pavillion for dessert. The food was spectacular! We started with fried calamari, long hots with sausage, house salad. Then platters of meatballs, chicken saltimboca, homemade mashed potatos, penne ala vodka, string beans started flowing. We capped the night with amazing canollis! Then he even sent us home with an assortment of pizza slices that were all a HIT the day after the wedding! You need to eat here! We live over an hour away, but will definitely go back! read more

Went here with my wife for the first time in our 10+ years in the area The restaurant was crowded and busy, so we had a short wait. It allowed us to observe that the staff was hustling, but not so much that they didn't make time for the customers. Once we were seated, the server, who was on her first day and handling her new job quite well, read us the specials. Although they sounded delicious, we had our hearts set on pizza. Along with our fresh garden salads, we got some fresh, warm bread. After we tasted that, the owner, Vito, came over and introduced himself and asked me, "How do you know if an Italian restaurant is any good?" I said, "The place is full." He said, "You are right, but it's really the bread." I thought about it and agreed. We had a laugh about him clocking us as new patrons and he said that after 40 years, he knows his customers. We got our pizza with sausage and black olives. We didn't ask for any special cook or seasoning adjustments. It was hot, naturally, with a perfect balance of cheese and sauce. The crust was crisp, with no tip sag and had a hint of saltiness at the bone. (I hope you understand the concept of pizza bones). While we ate, I saw the plated food leaving the kitchen. Vito must have seen me drooling or something and had me try a meatball. If you've read my other reviews, you'd know that I'm on a hunt. The delicious meatball was texture and consistency-wise very close to my Mom's, although with a touch less garlic, as my Mom basically had us sweating the stuff. We determined that we would have to eat pizza there as takeout wouldnt be an option because we live to far away. I promised Vito that we would be back for some fork food soon. A very solid maybe slightly run of the mill Italian restaurant. Appetizers were good , calamari cooked well and honestly the eggplant fries were a bit of a surprise hit . Our table ordered grinders which were fine although the bread could have been toastier and the cheese more melted. The Nona Sunday was packed with meats and pretty delicious however the pizza was just ok. Honestly our waitress was the best thing about our dinner . Super friendly and accommodating with a million dollar smile. The decor really could use a refreshing . The three different dining areas could use a good edit and perhaps a bit of consistency thru out . Overall we would def return as I think there is some good choices on the menu we haven't discovered yet . read more

Our family came here for a late lunch to celebrate a birthday. They started with a nice warm basket of bread with butter. So good we requested a second helping. I stopped in for a quick slice on the way home from work and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. The slice was perfect! It had a superb, slightly sweet, sauce. The base was crispy and the crust was bready and flavorful. It had the ideal amount of cheese. The slice was also very foldable and had great structure. We heard great things about Marinellis and they recently catered our small 15 ppl gathering. The food was delicious. Penne vodka was soooo good and their balsamic vinaigrette is addictive! I had the best experience today at Marinelli's in Flemington. We celebrated my husband's 60th surprise birthday party today. The service was amazing. Everyone was helpful and very friendly. I can't say enough good things about Vito and Marinelli's. They catered a birthday party for my wife. Vito was responsive, flexible with changes I made to both the food and timing, and hand delivered an item that had been forgotten. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. I need a sixth star for the rating. We just came to the area a few months ago and have dined at a about a dozen places so far and this is by far our favorite restaurant. The portions are generous, the prices reasonable, and the food is just plain delicious. An added bonus is that the staff are attentive, courteous & efficient. The owners (Vito & Kristine) came by our table and, in addition to being passionate about their work, may be two of the nicest people we've met yet. For appetizers (which we highly recommend) we had the Portabello Mushroom Flatbread & the Mussels in Spicy Marinara (apologies for the picture below - didn't think to take it before my father vigorously dug in). After that four of us split the Chicken Kristine, Caitlin and Giovanni entrees and long story short all three were delicious - and again portions so generous that we took some of each home. If you haven't tried this place it's definitely worth the trip. We'll be back! read more

The food is absolutely excellent. Unfortunately, the past 6 times out of 6 for take-out has been missing a part of our order. Seriously. Appetizers missing, salads missing, no bread....I give 30 minutes instead of we, but still. It's a disaster. They are too busy to deal with it. How is this possible? 6/6b times items are missing. Ordered sausage appetizer... missing. Salads sometimes come with the meals and sometimes not - or salads are included with no salad dressings and zero bread. Ordered the garlic loaf tonight. Nope! This place was only OK. I tried to order a Grandbag slice but they didn't know what that was somehow. The worst issue is the youth that they have at the counter. Senseless... We've been patronizing Marinelli's ever since we moved to the area and each time it just gets better! Tonight was an unplanned dinner with a friends son for his birthday, they found us a table and accommodated us right away. The appetizers were out of this world (heirloom tomatoes with burrata and some garlic bread). The salads were incredibly fresh and tasty! As if it couldn't get any better - along came the red snapper meal that was on special. It was perfection! The fish was cooked perfectly and was fresh, the whipped potatoes so smooth and delicious and the spinach was cooked just right and with the best seasoning! For years, this place has been a 'stop and get a pizza on the way home from work'. Well, we finally decided to dine in. (And btw, the pizza is good!) They just opened another enclosed seating space, 'The Barn'. It was different and nice. Service is friendly and attentive. Prices are decent. I wish that I hadn't been craving a steak sandwich for weeks, because I would have loved to have a full entree. But I just had to satisfy that craving.. Basket of bread is served, and the bread was pretty good. I'm sure many others enjoy the olive oil that many restaurants serve with this, as Marinellis does, but I'm not a fan. I still prefer butter :( My calamari was excellent. It was *very* crispy, and not greasy at all! The only thing that kept if from being perfect was the saltiness. Not that it wasn't properly desalinized, this was from the breading. Mozzarella sticks: meh. Bland. Steak sandwich: nicely packed. I am so accustomed to being disappointed with "Where's the beef" steak sandwiches, so I was pleasantly surprised with this. We got here at a time when it wasn't crowded at all, so I can't really comment on any wait times or the ambiance. But the fact that they opened up the new seating area makes me believe that they needed the space. I would definitely recommend a visit for dining or take out. read more

Vito sure knows what he's doing. There are many different types of "gourmet" pizzas that apparently change daily. Everything from truffle oil and ricotta cheese to lamb gyro pizza.
